With the new GT72S 6QE will it be possible to have 2 x PCIE SSDs raided and also have 2 x m.2 SSDs raided seperately? Reason I ask is that I have 2 old m.2 ssds from a GS60 and would like them raided for the OS drive then buy the 6QE with 2 x PCIE SSDs purely for game installs.

    HALP!

I have an 18 month old GS60 with 2 M.2 SSD slots (2x128 in RAID) + 1tb 7200 spinning drive, does the GS60-6QE have the simliar nuber of drive slots?

Trying to work out what drive options are there for increasing internal storage.

As it is literally my portable office, I was hoping for at least 2 M.2 SSD's so I could eventually up that to 512gb each. Plus the data drive.

    Am very interested in upgrading.

The new models are coming with just 1x m.2 slot and a 2.5" HDD bay. The m.2 slot does support PCIe now. To get more internal space you could replace the 1TB HDD with a 2TB HDD, however the 2TB are just 5400RPM.

So do you know which side of the motherboard the M.2 slot and the 2.5" drive are located. Just wondering if it will be different to the current model where you need to virtually pull the thing to bits to change the M.2 SSD's

So seems like my battery doesn't want to charge despite going below 95%. Beside running battery calibration what other options do I have besides sending my laptop in for possible maintenance?

Similarly might it have something to do possibly with the laptop seeming to want to use the dedicated card rather than the intel bit (or at least I'm assuming orange/amber power button is dedicated card and blue is intel). How do I set it so it only uses the card for games and intel for everything else?

I'd be surprised if they were significantly different than the existing GT72s.

Got the GS60 002 to do a review, but won't be able to pop it open until tomorrow. We'll provide pics as soon as we do.

Has MSI hinted as to an announcement date for the new GT80? Still trying to decide between the desktop CPU and lovely 4K screen on the P870 and the mechanical KB and the GPU compute for the GT80, and some detailed specs and/or pricing would be awesome!

I'm guessing the SSD is on the other side like it was in the last one.

If you guys work on a GT72S soon, can you post pics of that teardown?

Hopefully will do a GE72 or GE62 soon as well. I'll try to take pics as we go and upload them. If anybody has suggestions for reviews, PM me and I'll see if we can work them in as we go. Anything with a 980 desktop will also be high on that list.

Hi there.. I'm planning on getting a GE72 Apache Pro-077. I would like to know if this M.2 memory is compatible: Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB M.2 3.5-Inch SSD (MZ-N5E500BW)

I believe there are three M.2 slots.. So I want to make my put in two EVOs into slot one & two and then move the stock 128gb to the third slot.

Any advise or recommendations on how to better set up my rig is greatly appreciated. I only have budget ($340) to add additional SSDs.

Thank you for any and all feedback. God bless!

Yeah, you should be able to use 22x80 m.2 SSDs (not the PCIe or NVMe versions) on that model. So that one should work. The 850 Evo SSDs are pretty good drives overall.

You could set up the 2x Evo drives in a raid 0 configuration, for faster speeds if you wanted to.

Currently my GS60 is plugged into a 27" 3K monitor, which for the stuff I'm doing is great to has that much screen. Do any of the lighter weight 17" models come with 3K screens or is only the GS60 that has that option. Just wondering about opting for a 3K screen. For those that have looked at them on the GS60, how readable are they?

I don't have the 3K or 4K option but I have seen in person the 3K GT60 and 4K GS60. I can tell you that if you use native 100% scaling, everything is supremely tiny! :)

So personally, you would need at least 125% scaling for 3K and 150 to 200% for 4K depending on your tastes.

I would agree. I thought 150% made it look better and easier to read. 100% is pretty tiny.

    Hi,

did i catch that correct that new MSI GT72 (with Skylake like GT72-6QD Dominator G) have this x4 m2 SSD port too, but you can use there the pcie x3.0 SSD´s instead of the SATA SSD´s (or both) in RAID (super raid4)? Or just the PCIE m2 SSDs?

Or is this still the same x4 - m2 SATA SSD port (which is quite nice) and an additional PCIE-X4 3.0 (NVMe) port for one such an SSD as an option? (So for me there´s no need for, but those pcie-SSD´s are pretty fast and it would be nice if you can go for it with the refreshed GT72´s).

    Regards

If a model uses PCIe M.2 then it cannot support the SATA M.2.

That's the "normal" titan with new skylake right? Seems to feature current 980m rather than desktop version. This should be readily available. The version with full 980 might come later because it will be a revised Titan.

I see. I wonder too but i do think it is real. Makes sense too. The model numbers are a bit odd though. My original titan was 001. Now this skylake is model 002.

Right I agree some fuzzy logic. Then I look at the specs they make sense with pcie ssd and sata3 on the mechanical along with the new chipset so hopefully they will confirm and get a review up ASAP.

Judging from the $500 price difference on the two otherwise identical GT72S models, I'm guessing around a 1K premium over a similarly configured system with 980Ms. Ouch!

Right, that's understandable, great to see a skylake GT80 at all as I haven't heard any word of them at all other than the Youtube discovery. Will you be performing a bench test with this model via graphics and SSD perf?

Does anyone know if the M.2 are backwards compatible with the new generation m.2 pcie?

Yes I'll be performing benchmark testing once it's available. :)

The M.2 slots compatibility varies by the SKUs. for example, the GT72 has 2 PCIe slot + 2 M.2 slot. the slots that is marked for PCIe does not work with M.2 SSDs and the M.2 slots does not work with PCIe SSDs.

However, on the GE and GS SKUs, they have only one M.2 / PCIe combo port, which means you can put either a PCIe SSD or a M.2 SSDs and system will recognize it.

Yeah the GTX980 desktop GPUs on MXM seem pretty expensive.

So, with a GT72S can I raid 0 the 2 x PCIe slots as a game drive and also raid 0 the 2 x M.2 slots as an O/S and apps drive?

I've searched over the web but I can't find any information on this (maybe it's already been resolved) but are the new 4k panels for the 6 gen intel core MSI GS60 (6QE) laptops limited to 48hz? This is important to me, because I would most likely game in 1080, but do everything else at 4k.

Is MSI releasing a dock for the GS40?

Think of this, GS40 is a smaller version of GS60 for people wants a even smaller and same performance laptop who travels a lot. :)

Hopefully not too much longer on the 950 SSDs, as I believe they are "mid October" for the release.
