Yes, it can support 2x 16GB DDR3L 1600/1866 RAM.

No.

If you buy the one without SuperRAID.
IPS is standard on majority of the models, but please double check with your vendor directly to confirm.

Same as above.
IPS can be installed manually if you possess such component. -

Power Boost is not a bug or a faulty issue but more of a bonus feature that provides more power to the system during heavy gaming.
If you find this feature to be an annoyance you can reduce visual quality settings in the game so it does not drain battery power.
Even if the system does drain battery power, this behavior sometimes isn't constant but intermittent.
Otherwise, we can suggest MSI to make this feature optional. -
You're correct that Power Boost is strictly a benefit in and of itself, although it would be nice to have an option to disable it. However, you are completely ignoring my actual complaint, which is that the EC firmware limit is set not only well below the rating for the AC adapter, but also completely insufficient to run the notebook at completely stock settings, even with an undervolt on the CPU. When the battery is depleted or absent, the GPUs barely outperform 980Ms by a slim margin, and that's not even when the CPU is being heavily used. Please stop trying to sell this as a feature on the 6QF when it's really just being used as a band-aid for either a woefully underspecced power delivery system or a simple unwillingness to allow even one adapter to be used fully when two would be optimal for the system.Last edited: Jan 26, 2016

Thanks for the response Kevin. It is disturbing that some of us bought version based on the fact that it does not mention coming with the power boost feature, and that from what I have heard, the previous 980m version did not have it either. It should be an option we can check or uncheck based on our needs.
Second, but related issue, can you also suggest they raise the power limit of the 980 desktop version, since it cannot draw anywhere near what it's 980m little brothers can, and not even draw the stock adapter rating. I think someone here spoke with MSI and they said it would only pull about 300w from the 330w output rated adapter.
This has greatly affected our performance, and combined with the lack of power boost when battery is drained, we get basically the same performance as the 980m version that costs a lot less. We would appreciate your efforts! -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It's H/W limitation, is there an AC adapter out there that can supply more than 330W? Probably, but this has always been the same limitation.
AC adapter needs buffer to avoid overload since no AC adapter is 100% efficient and safety is most important. -
It is limited well below 330w (300w according to what MSI told one person) and in addition to that normally you can get well beyond 330w output, plus run dual 330w like I am so even 660w is still within their limits. All my Sagers work this way with no EC limit, and the previous GT80 with 980m SLI did not have a limit according what what I read on these forums. Also in the test (review) unit they were able to pull much higher than what we see here. That in itself is very misleading, I read reviews that show the system pulling 411w at the wall, while mine never goes above 330w at the wall under any circumstance (even overclocked).
Please understand I am not being picky, I am trying to point out an issue that we really need resolved. Anything you can do to convey the importance of this to MSI would be appreciated. I would be completely happy even if they just put a setting in the BIOS where we could disable (or at the very least raise) the false limitation, they could put in a disclaimer, just like I've seen in some BIOS overclocking, where you do this at your own risk, etc. The CPU and GPUs already have power limits, there is no need for this additional false limit that is well below the adapter spec.
Thanks again Kevin, I appreciate your help in this matter. +1 for GenTechPC -
It doesn't matter how efficient it is, because they rate their adapters by output power, not input. If you look at the Delta Electronics product list, even though they don't list the ADP-330, every other adapter on that page shows an output power rating equal to that number. As far as safety goes, users of older GT80 models report being able to pull 400W regularly from the wall when they overclock heavily, which is just about 340W at the computer, and they use the same adapter.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Did you find any AC adapter that's higher than 330W that we can try? -
You don't need on higher than 330w, just use the standard 330w output adapter that tons of notebooks have been using for many years. This is the ONLY notebook that will not use all of the power. It is limited to under 300w for some reason. Which is less that the 980mSLI model can use from the same exact adapter. The adapter is not the issue, it is the EC in the GT80S with desktop 980s that has the issue.
On top of that you can indeed connect two 330w adapters as I have, using a dual 330w adapter and it works fine, however it just draws a total of under 300w from the available 660w form the two adapters. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
How did you get 660W from 2x 330W? Can I see your setup? -
Sure, it's just a simple adapter. Not much to it but it works great. No load balancing but it does draw from both adapters at the same time. Unfortunately I can only draw 300w from it currently.

I have what should be an easy question for Eugene. It may have been posted, but I am not going to browse through 117 pages of this thread. The question is, where in the heck can I buy some things from the dragon collection? ? Everything is so hard to find, its almost laughable. Backpacks, keyboard covers, mice, shirts, etc are practically non existent. Is that not what people crave, and should be readily available? Thanks

Hey guys, i have an answer from our HQ team about the power draw issue.
They have acknowledged this problem and have been doing some analysis and safety testing to find a new way to re-arrange the power plan of the laptop and improve the drop of performance. Once the new plan has been fine tuned and fully tested, we'll make those versions of the firmware files available for download.

Hey Raiderman, unfortunately we dont have very many retailers who are carrying our accessories in the US. i know you can find a couple of them on newegg (mice/mousepads), but shirts, backpacks, in the US we usually either bundle or give them out for promotions/events.

Thank you very much for the info. I would be more than happy to help if you have some final testing you would like to do before final release.hmscott likes this.

I sure would like a Hecate backpack, and a GT70 Keyboard cover, I found a DS-200 mouse on Amazon....used....kind of. It was a demo mouse. I have searched everywhere, even asked a couple Aussie sites if they would ship to the US, but they said they could not. Seems to me that the US market would eat this stuff up, as I know I would. Newegg offers a very limited selection as well. They dont even have the latest mouse. It is kind of disappointing that these items are not more readily available.

I have a question Geno. Did the GT60 series get discontinued? I've been looking around on Xoticpc, GenTech and other sites and I cannot find it at all. I even looked on MSI's site themselves and found nothing. I'm guessing I've overlooked some notification of it not being continued somewhere, but I still think I'd have seen or heard of anything like that by now.
-
Thanks for the update! The way you worded that still has me pretty concerned though... are they keeping the low power limit and just reallocating more of it towards the GPUs? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad MSI is addressing the issue, but that would mean the battery would still drain at stock clocks and settings, and that power has to come from somewhere, which means CPU performance would probably be crippled.
I doubt this, but is there any chance MSI could help out Svet to create an unlocked, at-your-own-risk EC firmware so that people with a two-adapter system could get the most out of their hardware? Of course, any resulting damage would be completely at the user's expense. -
This year MSI is celebrating its 30 year anniversary. Can we expect anything special coming (laptop-wise) from you guys in the near future?

hi there, I just got my 4k MSI GS60 ghost pro 4k (haswell i7-4720HQ). After reading on the forums, Ive read the panel would have a 48hz refresh rate. However, Intel shows that the panel has a fixed 60hz refresh. Ive checked HWinfo about my screen type, and its the following screen ;
Monitor Name (Manuf): SAMSUNG LƒFL156FL02-P01
After checking it out, it seems it has a 60hz refresh aswell. Whats going on? Does my model has a 60hz or 48hz refresh rate? Im confused. -

I recently picked up a GT72S DOMINATOR G-037 and i have tried searching the msi website and everywhere else and can't seem to find an answer. Does MSI have a utility to update drivers and such? For what i can tell it says not to use MSI live update. I don't think there is one. You can look up for updates if you must over their website, or externally for things like killer networks/nvidia GPU etc.

Hello.
According to official page for MSI GS60 6QE Ghost Pro this laptop has:
- Thunderbolt 3 port which supports 2 4K monitors at 60Hz
- Mini DisplayPort 1.2 which supports one 4K monitor at 60Hz
# Question 2 is: Where to buy splitter Thunderbolt --> 2 x miniDP? Does it exist?

Hello Geno,
I just purchased a WS72 6JQ-008US and loving it! I do have 1 question concerning the LAN Ethernet driver. Device Manager shows me Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 but the driver is ancient v2.1.0.16 04/2013. I cannot find a current driver for it but when I am searching online it seems to somewhat related to the "Killer E2200"
The MSI website shows a similar "Killer LAN & Killer Wireless" package that has drivers that are way newer: 2015-10-19.
Do you know if it is compatible with the AR8161? When I unzipthe package there are several folders available so I'm a little reluctant to try the drivers in the Killer package.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
