Have you tried updating BIOS, EC firmware, and graphics drivers? If yes, then the issue can be hardware-related which requires MSI to perform repair under warranty terms.
Get it done asap before the warranty runs out though.

I would -love- to know if battery life on the GS63 will be better than that of the current GS60.

They should last about the same due to very minor difference in TDP.

    Regarding GT80S:

    1. In a system with two 980 in sli and two 950 pro in raid 0. The cpu only has 16 pcie lanes. Each 980 requires at least 6 pcie gen 3 lanes and each 950 pro requires 4 pcie gen 3 lanes all together the system requires at least 20 pcie lanes to not be bottlenecked by the cpu. Is there a bottleneck? Why or why not (PLX chip)? How bad is this bottleneck (in web browsing, game loading, rendering, mega tasking/vm etc.)?

    2. NVME m.2 drives are know thermal throttle to fast harddrive speeds within seconds of heavy load, the m.2 slots in the gt80s appear to have zero cooling/airflow doesn't this make them completely useless/worse then sata ssd?

Is there any word on when the GS40 Phantom 6QD (the version with a 960M and mini-dock compatibility) will become available for purchase? It has been advertised on MSI's website for over a month now, so we know it exists, but no resellers appear to have it yet, which seems a bit odd.

Will the GS63 offer better maintenance options than the GS60?

When you have to repaste the CPU/GPU on the GS60, it's obviously required to disassemble the whole unit and pull out the motherboard, because the heat conductors are on the backside instead of the front side. It should be accessable directly after removing the bottom cover...

2 quick questions although I'm not sure if you can answer them.

    1) MSI notebooks purchased in the US come with a 1 year international warranty (+1 year US only warranty). Is this the same for notebooks purchased in the UK? These normally mentioned 2 years, but not whether any part is international. I noticed these often have different model numbers from the ones in the US.

    2) Which leads me to my second question. What's the difference if any, other than power plugs and perhaps installed software between UK and US models? For example how does the the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 6QE 4K-092UK compare to the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 6QE 4K-238/4K-053 (I'm not sure if the 092 is glossy or matte) sold in the US?

    Cheers

    Help!

Trying to register my GT72 on the MSI website. It's asking for "Serial Number 2"? It suggests using MSI Helpdesk app to get it but when I open the app it just says my serial number 2 is "FFFFFF". I tried entering that on the registration and it wasn't accepted!

Is there any other way to get the second serial number from my GT72?

    TIA.

Ohai! If I bought an MSI GS40 Phantom in the USA, does it have international warranty? Can I service it in Argentina? Else how can I know wether my product has international warranty or not? Thanks!

Yes, it comes with 1-year international warranty unless otherwise specified based on the serial number. In countries such as Australia & Brazil which aren't covered by this international warranty.

Does the MSI GS40Phantom-001 have Thunderbolt 3 and BIOS support for an EGPU?

Also, is there a difference between the GS40 Phantom-001 and the GS40 Phantom 6QE?

Is there a difference between the GS40 Phantom-001 and the GS40 Phantom 6QE? MSI's website only has the 6QE and 6QD, but everywhere selling them has the Phantom-001.

They are pretty much the same, just the naming convention might be different in the US compared to the rest of the world. The only difference among variant are configuration settings.

    "Pretty much" the same?

I've heard stuff about some GS40s having a 10Gbps "superport" instead of a true TB3 port. If I buy the GS40 Phantom-001 from Amazon, does it have Thunderbolt 3?

    Hi
I have a MSI GE62-6QF and wanted to know if this models USB 3.1 Type-C port is Thunderbolt 3 compatible or not? I want to use an External GPU with the system but I could not find a definitive answer on the Thunderbolt 3 compatibility of the said port.

    Thank you very much

Hi - My MSI gt70 2OD refuses to charge its battery. it stays at 0% , plugged in but not charging. If i remove the charger, it stays on for half a second before starting to shutdown abruptly. I have tried uninstalling battery drivers and reinstalling. I have all the latest BIOS updates. I did create a battery report. What it does show is, that on 2016-07-30, at 01:00:00 it was at a Suspended state, at 98 %,capacity and 29,515 mWh then at 01:20:21 AC goes Active as only power source. So it abruptly stopped - I did not notice this as i was watching a film at the time. The battery hasnt been smacked hard or anything i believe, and the computer was definitely not overheating at the time - and It hasnt since, and battery still refuses to charge.
Please help. I have taken very good cary of the battery to retain good battery life etc. and now i might have to get a new battery out of nowhere?

Additionally, The AC power jack on my laptop seems sturdy enough, like it has been from the beginning to my memory it is not very tight when plugged in, but in my experience MSI chargers never plug in very tigthly (?)

The battery is very likely to be defective therefore you will need to change it. The warranty on the battery is just 1-year as they typically last about 1 to 2 year. You can contact MSI tech support directly to place an order for a replacement battery. :)

I am looking to buy an MSI gaming machine but can't make up my mind whether to go for a GT72S or a GT80 so would appreciate some advice from Geno or other users.

In reality, the rig will rarely get used for gaming as I use my laptops for graphic work however, occasionally I will play the odd game. Most important to me is NOT to have Windows 10 so my first question is whether these machines will accept Win 7 Ultimate? I recently heard that Skylake chips have been designed to accept Win 8.1 or 10 only so I hope that isn't true!

Other than that, I want masses of power and loads of RAM (at least 16 GB). Not interested in tactile screens.
    Final question...
I have been an Alienware user up to now but am fed-up with Dell's diminishing service and I can't stand their current 'rubberized' surface which shows fingerprints everywhere. Do the MSI's do the same or do they remain clean like the older Alienwares did?

First off, I'd wait until next week as the Pascal graphics cards will start shipping in MSI notebooks (pretty much all models with a VR on the end) which will offer a significant graphics performance boost over the current crop. Depending on what the power needed and your budget, you should probably start being able to get good deals on 9xx gfx cards too.

Secondly, while it will ship with Windows 10, you also have a few options that may work. You MAY be able to get Windows 7 to work on it, but be advised that drivers may be a problem - particularly amongst some of the Intel hardware like the chipset, USB, etc. Windows 8 drivers may work, if available, but I wouldn't count on Intel releasing drivers for below Windows 10.

I would suggest either booting Linux or Windows 10 and getting VMware workstation. As I'm sure you already know, Workstation has much better hardware support so you should be able to directly access the video card instead of just a virtualized generic adapter. You could run Windows 7 in a VM and should have pretty good performance. Then the hardware doesn't matter so much.

I'm not aware of MSI laptops having tactile screens. That's not the market they're going after.

There are a few differences between the GT72S and the GT80. The GT80 has a mechanical keyboard vs a chiclet keyboard. It also has a touch pad that can either be a mousepad or a number pad as well. It can also do SLI.

However, it's a beastly thing too. Might not be a big deal if it's just going to sit on your desk, but could be if you plan on taking it with you.

The GT72S is a little smaller and IMO, has a better feel to it.

There's a GT73VR coming out next week that will have SLI as well.

If you have a computer shop near you that sells MSI, you may want to stop in and get a hands on feel to see what you like.

I'm still on a GT60 and I don't have the issue. I've heard the GS series is a bit more fingerprint prone. I don't recall seeing smudges on the GT72 or GT80 when I've seen them at the store.

I've found MSI's service to be pretty good in the US. I can't testify to Europe, but the time I've sent my laptop in they replaced a lot of parts - probably some that they didn't need to.

Some very good advice there superguy25.
When you say the GT72S has a better feel to it, can you tell me in what way? Are you talking about keyboard action/sound or something else?

I'm guessing the GT73VR is a Virtual Reality ready machine, right?
I don't think I need that but 4K playback would be nice, if it can do that.

Here in Europe there are some very good offers on GT80's at the moment. I can't comment on US offers but comparing the same machine on Amazon UK with any continental European Amazon site shows the UK prices to be around 20% higher. Furthermore, All Amazon UK offers for MSI products have shipping on top whereas it is free in Europe.

I'm not a geek so regretfully things like Linux and VMware workstation are all gobbledygook to me.
I will read up on the Pascal graphics cards though as they might sway me.
The biggest challenge I have is that none of the MSI stockists where I live carry any of the gaming laptops. They all say they can order me one but why would I do that if I have no idea what I am ordering?

There are always some promotional offers so you will need to pick carefully and sort of the priorities of your needs. Lesser important features can be nice to have but not totally required.

Yes, but this is something that's entirely subjective. I have a GT60 right now. The GT72 is a bit bigger and heavier, but not overly so that it's a turnoff. To me, the GT80 is just a big, heavy beast that goes over the portability line for me.

I also don't like the keyboard and the mouse/numpad combo. The mechanical keyboard is angled downward and feels like a keyboard from the 1980s to me. It's not comfortable. Mechanical keyboards are supposed to have an advantage in gaming, though.

The VR denotes MSI laptops that have a Pascal. And yes, they are supposed to be able to better handle VR than the 9xx series. I have yet to play with VR at all, so I can't comment on how well suited or not either generation is.

4K may be good for graphics/CAD as you can see more of what you're doing without scrolling. Just another use that may or may not be helpful.

I think you guys tend to get screwed on tech even with the exchange rates. I can understand some differences in price for exchange rates and taxes, but I don't understand why a $2000 USD laptop can cost $2500 or whatever base price simply because you're in Europe. It's not like it's more "valuable" because of where you're at.

The GT80 is a fine machine and it'll be a great performer. If I could get a screaming deal on one over a similarly specced GT72, I'd consider it. It just wouldn't be my first choice.

No worries. You wouldn't have to use Linux to use VMware - I just think it performs better in Linux. VMware pretty much allows you to another OS from within Windows. Think more like XP Mode in Windows 7 - same concept.

Check out the article I just linked though - MS is extending Windows 7/8.1 support for Skylake chips.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyl...ends-windows-7-and-8-1-intel-skylake-support/

Yeah, that's always the tough part. You can have a great specced laptop but if you hate how it feels when you get it, then it doesn't matter how great it is on paper.

A lot of MSI's gaming PCs have workstation equivalents (WS, WT, etc) that will be similar. They differ mainly in graphics, and some may have Xeons in them. The chassis are similar though, so you can an idea that way. https://us.msi.com/Workstations

While obviously a different vendor, if you can find a shop that sells Asus ROG (gaming) laptops, check those out. MSI and Asus are targeting the same market and their designs should give you a rough idea at least.

Yeah, but make sure all of the drives are fully visible to you in the system.

Newegg has the release date of your new line of laptops as 8/31.

Will all retailers get to release (deliver) them on the same day? When do you expect Amazon to have them?

    Thanks!

Hi all. I have bought a MSIGT72VR 6RE Dominator Pro.
I want to know if it has g-sync or/and 120hz in the monitor. I have searched in the MSI website, installed all the drivers I found and I'm still not sure about its specs.
How can I know it 100% for sure?

    Hi,
I have some questions about the new GS73VR:
    1. What kind of screen does it have: I know it is a FHD 120hz but what is it: TN or IPS and from which manufacturer?
    2. Does it have GSYNC or Optimus?

It has 120Hz which is required by G-Sync.

Do any of the new generation have Optimus or the hardware switch? In reading some reviews, I saw both Asus and MSI had a lot of the newer laptops just using the Nvidia GPU and calling it good instead of allowing some sort of switch to the Intel gfx.

I would also like to know which of the new Pascal MSI models have Optimus, or MUX, or dGPU only.
