Have you monitored CPU/GPU temps? Maybe the factory paste had issues and it is not properly cooling down your machine? Talk to your reseller and open contact with MSI to perhaps setup RMA.

Any idea if the GT72 lower spec models are going to get an upgraded IPS screen soon?

Thx, Kevin, but I couldn't find the post you are referring to....

    I have 3 buying options:
    1) GT72 2PC-076XPL(2*128,870) in romania = 2600 $
    2) MSI GT72 Dominator-214(2*128,970) from the US = 2200 $
    3) Wait for the Poland edition of the 214

So, as questions to you guys and Geno specifically
    I) Referring to point 2) - I have a friend who is currently in the states and could buy this laptop for me and bring it back with him on the flight(saving me the transport=100-250$ and the import tax=500-600$). Would I be covered by the warranty then?
II) Referring to point 3) - Any idea how long this would take? Even aproximations based on previous gen releases would be welcome

    Edit:
I just saw that the previous model I was asking about(GT72 2QD-288XPL) already has the 970...rendering point 3) invalid so...
3)GT72 2QD-288XPL(2050$) with three Samsung evo M.2 sata drives (300-500$)

If you buy it in the US, your warranty coverage is 1-year limited global warranty, and in some countries such as Brazil and Australia the local MSI office may not provide any warranty to the local residents because you needed to be a traveler in order to receive global warranty in those countries. Poland should be alright but best to double check with the local office directly to confirm on the warranty issue and product availability. We can try to help but can't answer all of your questions due to limited information outside of US.

Refering to your answer about msi gt72 2qd that comes only with 1tb hdd and no ssd's: is corect that only the m.2 ssd msi gt72 2qe config will come with the super raid 3 adapter and only them?
MSI UK and MSI RO told me that the adapter is indeed included to all de gt72 models, even 2qd.

Like psycho said in romania are only 1tb models now available and i wanted something top speed but i need a real answer from who has this laptop

    Few questions on MSI Laptops

I'm looking at the GS60 GhostPro HD and 3k version, my first question is the display. Based on what is listed there seem to be 3 types, the 3k LED Glossy and then a Full FHD LED (matte-type) and a Full HD LED Anti-Glare. I would like excellent contrast and great color, not a washed out dim screen. I recently bought and then sent back a Lenovo Y50, the display quality was terrible. I have a 3 year old ASUS ROG G743x with a GeForce 560m and it was much clearer and a better display then the Lenovo. Part of the issue was the Lenovo was using the onboard graphics card most of the time and there was no way to disable it. It did have a GeForce 860M card but it only used it for video, I want a full time card otherwise why pay for it? The display was also a 15.6" FHD Matte screen and the contrast was horrible. So I have concerns with a matte screen.

With the MSI's can the GeForce cards be used full-time and any on-board graphics be disabled?

Regarding the display, what is the difference between a Full FHD LED (matte-type) and a Full HD LED Anti-Glare screen?

I actually first ordered the Lenono Y50 4k laptop, the picture was great, but there were a bunch of issues with the hardware not being able to run the display correctly (at least that was what Lenovo support told me) the screen would every so often just go gray and lock up. I needed to force restart it every 2 days, so that went back and I got the full HD one.

I don't play games, but I want great graphics for everyday use, the web, general software, I don't want fuzzy text (my eyes are bad enough). I'd like to go with the Full HD but have concerns with the display quality and if I go with the 3k if I'm not playing games will I have issues with programs and video. I assume the video will look great?

I will basically use this as a desktop (also with a separate monitor) so it will also be plugged in most of the time. Do the MSI laptops manage charging as far as not overcharging the battery automatically. This was a concern with the Lenovo, seemed to overcharge when plugged in all the time, the ASUS manages it automatically.

Is there any where to see the actual displays side by side?

Any reseller allow returns without a restocking fee if I'm not happy with the standard HD laptop and want to get the 3k or vice versa? I'd actually consider ordering both and then keep the one I want. I don't want to pay almost 2k for a PC that I am not happy with.

Any suggestions on what would work, or should I look at a different brand (probably should't ask that in an MSI thread :) )

    Thanks for any advice.

If your not going to game and want a good screen get an APPLE with retina display, it would such a shame and be a huge waste if you don't game with your Ghost Pro.
    But it's your money..

Can you confirm all 980m GT72's in australia are getting the IPS screen? I have been told by resellers that you have said mid November... is this correct? all but the 970m GT72 should be getting the IPS screen... right?

    Hey Bonesnj,

Sorry for the late response! Been pretty busy and i didn't see your question. :(

The GS60 Ghost Pro 3k has an awesome screen. I personally have used one for a while and it is nice and crisp.

You can enable to always run the GPU through the Nvidia control panel.

The 3K Resolution will make the font very small in the windows environment, so if you have bad eyes, this might not be for you. (you can however, change the resolution to a smaller setting and it would be fine)

The Battery will not be overcharged automatically.

I am unsure of where you could see the displays side by side, you can check fry's or microcenter. Most retailers will not allow you to return without a restocking fee.

All in all, the GS60 is a great laptop (no matter what version you get) that can do it all, and still be in a portable form factor. Check out the review from PCmag here: MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K Review & Rating | PCMag.com

Here are the pictures for both models for your reference.
    GT72 with 1x HDD = 1x 2.5" SATA II + 1x 2.5" SATA III
    GT72 with M.2 SSD = 1x 2.5" SATA II + 4x M.2 SATA III

Ok, so if you buy the base model, you need the adapter and the SSD's?
    Adapter model for the GT72?
Does this SSD work with this laptop(SSD Plextor 256GB M6G-2280 M.2 SATA3 MLC, PX-256M6G-2280)? From what I understand, the only requirements are : connection(M.2 SATA) and form-factor(22x80)
    Cheers

You won't be able to get the M.2 adapter due to availability, at least it has been like this on MSI NBs with SuperRAID.
So if you really want to benefit from more SATA III, then you will have to get the more expensive model, otherwise the base model will lead nowhere close to SuperRAID.

@MSIGeno I'm gonna go out on a limb here with a little help from you. I really want to buy this laptop, but I'm not yet sure I will find the Raid controller and adapter within, but you said there should be anyway. If I buy the GT72 2QD-288XPL and there is no adapter, can you promise to supply one( with ribbon etc.)?

Also does this SSD work with this laptop(SSD Plextor 256GB M6G-2280 M.2 SATA3 MLC, PX-256M6G-2280)? From what I understand, the only requirements are : connection(M.2 SATA) and form-factor(22x80)

    Hey Psycho,

I am going to specifically check this model: GT72 2QD-288XPL for you with our HQ to make sure it has the raid controller and adapter included. Do you have a serial number for the model you want, so i can make sure it is exactly the right model? (i dont want you to make a purchase without the full information you need before buying)

Where are you located? i work in the US office, so its hard for me to check all the SKU's from other regions as well as provide parts to anyone.

    Cheers!
    Geno

    d0r1n,

thanks for the info! i cant read anything on those websites though since i dont know the language, are you able to find a serial number or ERP number for me? Maybe you can request it from the website you want to purchase it from. If i had an exact serial number or the ERP number for the product, i could have my tech guy check directly through our systems.

    Hi Geno,
I have a msi cx420 laptop with i3 processor 4gb RAM ddr3 and a switchable graphics card. I had a problem with it in these past few day whenever i turn on my laptop it suddenly shuts down after the windows logo. Ive tried to launch startup repair and boot it in safe mode but it still shuts down.until now i cant completely turn on properly my laptop. I play games with it. I have a CoreTemp software which monitors the temperature of the cores. I dont know also if my fans work properly cause my exhaust fan spins too fast but releases little bit of hot air. Can you see whats the problem?

Unfortunately, i cant really diagnose what your problem is through your description. Is your laptop still under warranty? you can RMA it with us and have it repaired if it is.

Perhaps the unit needs to be cleaned up thoroughly using vacuum (suction and/or blow) because if the vent has enough dust built-up then it will clog the heatsink/vent.

At last! I am sure that not just You will help NBR community but also NBR community will help MSI because this is the best troubleshooting forum where knowledgeable members can separate manufacturer's mistakes from owner's one. Good luck!

P.S. And if I finally found someone who I can complain... :) I know that nobody will ever mess with 3 years old notebook but I am doing this just out of sense of justice. MSI GE70, Win7, BIOS 10F and Firmware 1.404. If you shut down laptop right after it was working hard then next time you turn it on the fan will constantly blow at 50%. If you want to fix it you need either fully power drain the laptop (5 sec power button without battery) or wait a little and try to reboot so fan will reset as soon as you come to desktop. Phew. Now my soul is clear and I can forget about it :)
P.P.S. Firmware 1.405 is not a fix, it is attempt to hide the problem. It just increases minimum fan speed so fan would never stop which is not normal.

    Hi,
I'm looking to purchse a MSI Ghost Pro, can anyone suggest a good responsive online retailer where I can get price information and supports their products. I'd also like some customization options as opposed to buying from Amazon.
Note: (don't suggest xoticpc, I have sent multiple emails and have never received a response, so not interested in doing business with a company that can't respond to a sales inquiry)

    Thanks,

    Bonesnj,

Both Xoticpc and Gentech are great companies and very reputable here on NBR. They are both actively supporting all of their customers.

    MSIGeno,

What can you tell us about MSI's Alienware 18 killer, the GT80 Titan? Release date? Prices? Specs? Thunderbolt? Blu-ray? Anything???

It's about time there was some competition in the 18.4" gaming/DTR space!

    Thanks.
