Yes, but you must be careful with the heatsink due to the placements on the card itself which can be different than another.

Hey guys, having a bit of an annoying time with my GT70.

The bloody thermal compound keeps going off to the sides of the CPU and GPU. Am I applying too much? Or is it because I'm not spreading it, only applying it and then putting the heatsink on?

Here's how it looks after a while:

    imgur: the simple image sharer

Edit: Or am I screwing the heatsink on too tight perhaps?

Probably a little but the pressure will always push some out since its only ever a thin layer you want.

Just reapplied it, spread it too. gonna see how it holds up. Because used to get as hot as 55 - 60 when watching youtube vids at 1080p. Depending on the browser.

Edit: Right, so the temps are the same. 70 - 80 when playing EVE Online, all maxed. and 80 - 88 With a 1080p youtube video playing in the background.

Decided to take a look again. This is how the thermal paste looks like now:

Is it too little now? I'm quite bad at proportions. Unless it's food. Then spice and everything nice isn't a problem.

Are those white ones? You should use better ones, and the surface must be cleaned first before applying.

Did clean the surface. Just re-applied it again, slightly more this time, working a lot better. Yeah, it's a white one. My wallet currently cannot afford anything else. On a really tight budget.

Actually, no, it isn't any better. My CPU is gets to 88 C sometimes, normally stays at 72 - 77 when playing. But when I check the max reached, it got to 88 C. Is that normal at all?

Edit: Finally got it down to 65 - 72 C on the CPU, and 55 - 65 C on the CPU when playing EVE Online.

I think I finally repasted it proper.

Do you run the eve client with vsync on? It can be pretty hungry with it off.

Hey Meaker! glad to see you brother! and thanks for the interest in the matter! I tried to disable secure boot but is it locked in the GT70 bios? does the new bios 50Y that updaded in msi side a few days ago solve any of this matter? damn it it would be cool to have linux dualboot in this beast!

    Hey all!

I've been trying to reinstall my Win 8 on my gt70, however the Windows 8 reset function doesn't work, as it says I require some files and I need to input my Windows 8 disk.
I never got one when I ordered my pc, and the image boot that was on my D drive is corrupt. Is there any way I can reinstall windows 8 here with my OEM key? Microsoft doesn't allow me to download an ISO with OEM key so I'm kinda stuck. Don't feel like buying another windows 8 license just to get a clean install.

    Any tips?

    Cheers.

    Hey Ya'll.

    I've finally ordered a couple of Samsung's 840 Evos, 500gb.
I'm looking at doing a repaste as well just to be safe. Where I'm located I can only get this:
PB Tech - CPUATS11367 : Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Silver AS5-3.5G Thermal Compound 3.5-Gram Tube thermal grease paste Made With 99.9% Pure Silver

Is there anything better you would recommend or should I stick with this.

The other thing I'm wondering is; does anyone know where I can get a Windows 8 ISO.
I can't get one through MSI, I can't buy one and I've resorted to looking through a more pirate method, but they are all... dodgy to say the least.

I'd just like to access an ISO file so I can do fresh installs easily.

    Please and thank you :)

Best way to do this for not having a physical win 8 disc is to create a windows backup image and just restore it off of that - that is how I did my 3x MSATA raid 0 array, and its still fast as hell :D

You can generate the recovery discs from the stock hard drive, then use it to restore onto your SSD.
However, if you had not done that and it's already too late, then you can still buy the factory recovery images from MSI.

Hmm. I don't want to recover my current OS, I'd prefer to do a fresh install and copy important data over.

It should be fine, a friend of mine is letting me use a Windows 8 ISO booted from a USB so all should be well.

Regarding thermal paste, would AS5 be all good?

You can contact MSI directly to obtain the recovery discs, they may/may not charge you for it which is entirely at their discretion.
AS5 is fine, but IC diamond is still the best.

I was thinking of just downloading an ISO and use a random key, then use the script command afterwards via CMD to register my OEM key. Hopefully that will work fine.

They aren't visible however they are both Enabled.
But please make sure that your BIOS & EC firmware are both up-to-date.

Thank you so much for replying so fast, Kevin. As for virtualization, if they were enabled, as you say, then the option to add the feature "Hyper-V" should be visible in the "Turn Windows Features on or off" section of the control panel. However this is not the case. Do let me know your thoughts on that. And Kevin, the version of my BIOS is reported by "Live update" to be E16F4IMS.50H.

If anyone has successfully installed/enabled Hyper-V on their GT60 2OC-022US, kindly let me know how you were able to do that. Thanks.

An unlocked bios from svet can expose more bios options if any are required.

The 4700mq does not support VT-d, only VT-x.

We've asked MSI before that they made sure VT-x & VT-d switches were all enabled by default.
Now that you mentioned Hyper-V, so it came down to the processor where lies the limitation.
    ARK | Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz)

You will have to upgrade the processor if you wish to benefit from VT-d.

    Mayonnaise is common favorite, haha.
You can use Arctic Silver 5 if you can get your hands on it, will still work well.

Yeah I'm gonna grab some today. Just purchased 32gb Ram. So now I'll be boasting 32gb, 500gb SSD, 1tb backup and thermal paste lol.

I found this "tutorial" online, would you it's sufficient or could you recommend a better "tutorial".
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY0lcZt2sBY

    EDIT:
Also going to benchmark with these two + light and creamy.
    http://bit.ly/1vYSN4O

Figured original might be too fatty which might heat up the CPU.

    another Edit:
I've installed the SSD's. How do I access windows through the bios embedded key?

Use restore disks created from the recovery software on the original drive. The key is embedded into the bios.

The exact ram can vary but you want 1.35V 1600mhz CL11 ram. You can double check using CPU-Z if you like.

Hi guys, I've just got a GT60 2oc 3k. Most amazing screen i've ever used!

I've searched and searched but haven't found anything on this, though maybe i'm looking in the wrong places.
It came with a 1tb HDD and an empty slot and an included 2 x mSata adapter. I've cleared Win8 and reinstalled Win7x64 onto a new 120gb Evo, in the bottom Sata2 slot, everything's running fine with OS on Evo and the HDD as media drive in the Sata3 slot.

I want to get the mSata adapter running the 2 x mSata (NOT raid) in the Sata3 slot, where the HDD is now, and install the 1tb HDD in the DVD tray (already ordered an adapter and successfully done this before with existing Asus laptop). This is so I can have 4x drives for video editing.

So i've taken out the HDD as a test, placed the 2 x mSata adapter in but I can't get Win7 or BIOS (which I flashed to 10y for Win7) to recognise more than 1 mSata. I got the same result from the empty Sata2 slot.

Also - my ram's only running something like 786mhz in Speccy, and there's no way to adjust it in BIOS. Any ideas how to get the full 32gb running at 1600mhz? (running 24gb right now 2 x new 8gb Samsung sticks, with original 8gb in there - which has exactly same specs, different brand)

    Any ideas?

Delete the RAID array in the BIOS first.
Then change SATA mode from RAID to AHCI and then reinstall the OS onto single SSD.
786MHz x 2 = 1572MHz, slightly off but it should be 1600MHz. Use CPUZ to verify this information instead.
If problem persists, then remove the newly installed modules and then check again. Swap the modules and then verify the new sticks to compare results.

More or less what Meaker said. They're SODIMM type modules. You don't have to opt for CL 11, although there aren't a lot of options, and going with CL 9 (faster than CL 11) will not yield a substantial difference.

For some reason my laptop takes 30 seconds to a minute to connect to wifi once I wake it up. I tried re-installing the driver several times with both the ones on killer's website and msi's driver download page but the problem still persists. Any ideas?

    Hey All

The Ethernet driver(Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)
) on my GT60 does not seem to be working even though it is the latest version available, do any of you know how I can get this fixed? I'm not able to use the LAN port and that totally sucks :(. Wifi works fine though(Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235
). I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling, disabling/enabling none of these novice techniques worked, so I've come to the experts.

Do let me know if there is any more information I need to give to help you help me out with this.
