Is it behaving the same way with and without the touchpad driver?

Delete the driver and it works normally, but without the bells and whistles of course.

Not to mention, the touchpad driver kept re-installing every time I restarted the PC.

Now I'm back on W8.1. Never thought I'd say this, but, boy am I loving it. And the downgrade wasn't exactly smooth either. :/

The downgrade started giving me BSODs, I reset the PC, recovered it back to W8, installed all the W8 updates till W8.1 and then installed W8.1. Hectic, but worth the effort IMO.

On to the Caddy size, too bad no one is exactly sure :( .

But thanks for all the responses anyway, ya'll.

My surround sound doesn't appear to be working anymore. I tried reinstalling drivers new and old, resetting my PC, changing speaker properties. Nothing worked. Can anyone help?

Yeah, I tried downgrading and it ended up making me do a clean reformat as it corrupted my hard drive to the point that bios couldn't even find it. Gave me a scare, but it looks like I'm in the clear now. I'm pretty disappointed because I actually rather liked windows 10, but I guess I'll stick with 8.1 until I buy a new laptop in a year or so.

I've been having some really weird wifi problems for the past year or so. Perhaps a year and half, even.

So the problem is as follows:

Packet loss, every 30 seconds. Game's start stuttering due to latency issues, or get disconnected completely.

Now, at first I thought that was my wifi, but I've had a desktop PC with wireless in this room, and it performed perfectly fine. All other laptops did so as well, however this laptop with the Killer N-1202 wifi card doesn't. It just messes with my connection like crazy. Can't play any online video games without wanting to gently cry myself to sleep.

Has this been a known problem? I've tried to reinstall drivers, substitute them with older version, but to my demise, none of that helped.

The games where this is really obnoxiously obvious are Dota 2, GTA V, and LOTRO.

Some other games seem to compensate for it, but they are not as high action per minute.

Edit: I also had tried different WiFi networks, the problem persists regardless of the network I'm connected to.

For those having touchpad problems, download and install the drivers i've linked and use the pad as before. Turns out MS doesn't provide the latest drivers (installed 353, yet nvidia gave me 355).

Hey guys. I have a GT70 20C, and for the longest time I've been trying to upgrade to Windows 10. I've been all over the internet with my problem, but I haven't found any help yet. But if anyone here could help me in this thread it would be awesome. I'm just going to copy/paste my problem here:

I'm hoping that I can post this here, as this has been really annoying me ever since the day it came out.

So needless to say I haven't been able to upgrade to windows 10.

So just under 2 years ago, I bought my GT70 2OC laptop and I enjoyed being able to use it for the time in between then and now. However, once Windows 10 came out, I was expecting to be able to upgrade to it, just as easily as I upgraded from Windows 8 (which was pre-loaded on my laptop) to windows 8.1. However, in both of my attempts to upgrade to it, I keep getting to 78% - 15% "Configuring settings" before it hangs. I once let it on over night and when I woke up it still was at this position. I had to hard-reset my laptop, and when it returned, I saw an error notice.

"0xC1900101 - 0x4000D The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation"

I went to the Microsoft forums to see if I could find a solution. They advised me to uninstall my antivirus and make sure that when I tried to upgrade that my mouse was unplugged. I did it but It still failed to upgrade, hung at the same spot, and when I restarted it it gave me the same message. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong, so I came here.

So to sum things up; I've been trying to upgrade to Windows 10 using my laptop, and no matter what I do it's not working. Can anyone help me, and does anyone know of someone with my laptop model that has upgraded?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi folks! I have a stock GT70 2OC-017US and recently upgraded to Windows 10. Using this forum I was able to solve the touchpad issue and everything else seems to be working normally - except SCM?. I discovered that my current BIOS is an older one and updates are available on MSI. (see attachments) Now, should I bother with this since I now have Windows 10 (stability prob?) Also, if it is recommended that I update - how do I do that? I have downloaded the American Megatrends BIOS update utilities but am unsure which utility program applies to my system. The recommended startup procedure based on the MSI BIOS update .pdf available on the MSI website (press DEL key at MSI logo at startup) does not work for me somehow. (too fast of a boot up - maybe) I've never updated BIOS on my own system before. Thanks in advance for any help here. Great forum for a great machine - right?!

I have a GT70 2OC-017us and just upgraded to Windows 10 today. I saw the post about the touch pad and used the link and it fixed my problem. Since I upgraded I notice that my power button light is always red even though I have it set to auto select in Nvidia control panel. It stays red even when I set it to the Intel as preferred. Does anyone know what is going on. It used to stay white unless I was playing a game.

I uninstalled the GeForce Experience and then reinstalled it. I also installed the latest driver 355.82 I think the previous one was .62. It turned white for first time since the update to Windows 10. Seems to be working fine now. I also enabled the activity icon.
Many Thanks for the help on that.
Do you know anything about the keyboard getting quirky after installing Windows 10. Just trying to type this to you my keyboard sometimes seems fine one minute and very slow and unresponsive the next.

Sorry for the late reply been out a couple days. I have never updated the bios or the ec. It has whatever version it had when I got it, came with windows 8. I was looking on this link http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GT70-2OC.html#down-bios&Win8.1 64 however I am not sure how to check bios version or how to update ec. any advise would be greatly appreciated.
BTW video is working and switching fine.

    Hey all

After seeing all this talk about EC and BIOS firmwares, I would really like to know something...

Is there any point in updating to the most current versions of these? I mean I've read the description for the ones relevant to my laptop and they don't seem to justify the possibly-bricking risk that I have to take in order to upgrade/update these firmwares. Please excuse my ignorance if it is showing.

    My Current Bios:
    BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. E16F4IMS.50H, 9/12/2013.

On an unrelated topic, does anyone know if there is a setting in the BIOS to enable Intel VT-x?

    Thanks in advance :)

I would recommend to update to the latest version if there are fixes/enhancements available.
It's rare for MSI NB to brick nowadays except in a situation where the system itself is unstable, eg: corrupted OS (if performing OS flash), or defective memory.

For MS-16F4 (GT60 2O), the latest version is E16F4IMS.51D/71D so it will be a major jump for you. Requirement from MSI specified to update to 50V/70V first prior to performing 51D/71D update.
    50H/51H - Released on 2013/09/30
    51D/51D - Released on 2015/04/17

    Official BIOS download page:

    Important info:
VT-x & VT-d have always been enabled (VT-d when CPU support is available) but remained hidden in the BIOS until 51D/71D.

    Thanks so much, Kevin. :)

One more thing, if you don't mind.
Would you know how to find the "MXM" model/version of the motherboard?
Even a cmd or powershell command would help, thanks in advance, for keeping this aging(but not obsolete) laptop alive. :D

    Thanks again, Kevin.

Would it be possible to reassign the multimedia touch key on the GT60? I mean the one that opens CyberLink PowerDVD. It's really useless and reassigning it would help me. Thanks again. :)

    Edit:
The first post in this thread says this Laptop's got 2 USB 2.0 ports, I'm yet to find the second one, any thoughts? Or was that a mistake?

This type of issue is usually caused by incompatible driver.

I think it has something to do with the Nvidia drivers since mine has been crashing randomly when i play WoW, but the Power state failures happen most of the time when im just browsing the web.

There's no specific order for most of drivers except Intel & Nvidia drivers.
Can you check event viewer to determine that causes the crash?
Are you able to restore the OS to stock to verify?
Lastly, can you also update BIOS & EC firmware?
