Screw the librarians anyway...lol
I know what you mean in mobile scenarios ( I travel way too much for work ) but I guess that's what the turbo fans are for and yes they are annoying but at least they get the job done.
-
anyone else struggling with steam? had it before and it was being buggy so i reinstalled, now it is stuck on updating and wont progress...maybe i need to go back to an older driver?
-
I see around the same except my temps are usually a few degrees lower than that while gaming BF3 at max non turbo fan. But with turbo fan I see pretty much the same temps! The turbo fan does work excellent and provides a cool, fast laptop, but at the cost of the noise. My fiance thinks it is crazy and drives her nuts while shes studying or watching TV. I can't hear it while gaming because I wear ear buds, so at least while gaming it isn't noticeable to me. Maybe a driver or vbios/bios fix from MSI will change it a bit. Create a better medium. I do for one love that the laptop is basically silent while doing anything other than gaming. And the battery life for a gaming laptop is superb IMO. Will be hanging onto this laptop for a couple years easily. -
-
-
that's what I use. 70% cools good enough to keep the machine under the underclock threshold and maintain full turbo boost speeds all the time, while being somewhat less noisy than Full turbo fan. I find that anything above 70 gets too noisy, but compared to turbofan, it is acceptable.

Hi,
I just got it today. Anybody here know how to access recovery mode? I tried pressing F11 but have no luck. -
I've just ordered one of these. I had ordered the G750JX, but canceled. Snapped up one of these. Will be my first MSI. Only one way to find out if its too loud...
This is going to replace my desktop. And could even be more powerful! -
Well, decided to give the 320.49's a shot, here are the results after a quick 3dMark11 run to see if they installed properly:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4
Temps with turbo fan are great as usual, CPU maxed at 63-66C across the cores, GPU maxed at 65C
Will report in with any issues with games when I get a chance to play, but they seem to have installed just fine once you modify the nvwin.inf as posted elsewhere.
EDIT: was tinkering with the Intel Tuning Utility, and no idea if I did anything in reality, but based on the GT70 thread I bumped the ring slider to 36x instead of 34x. Ran 3dMark11 again out of curiousity:

Temps were the same as above. Physics score was actually a bit lower, not sure why... overall score improved a bit however, might have just been a variance in runs?
Just throwing that out there... this is with a 4700MQ -
@juliant Are you running raid0 x 3 in yours?
Edit: Can't seem to find this info in the thread but if you wanted to repaste the CPU, you have to remove the GPU heat sink too? Is that correct, because of the thermal bridge. -
-
I see you have the 4900MQ, did you install that yourself? I'm thinking I will have to repaste, but I will need some ram thermal pads for the GPU heat spreader. Did you replace yours or just reuse them? (if you did it yourself that is) -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you are doing it anyway use some 0.5mm quality pads.
-
Also I did change my thermal pads, but I used 1mm pads on both the GPU and CPU. If you are careful, you can reuse the old pads, just make sure they are put back in place. Just be careful not to tear them if you need to reposition the stock pads. Using my 1mm pads didn't change temperatures. 0.5mm might be better as Meaker has pointed out, but I cannot say either way. -
Did you purchase through a reseller ? If so contact them first. If you bought it from a retailer IE Bestbuy exchange it.
10 days old hopefully you can find a faster solution then getting it repaired. -
-
-
Exactly what Juliant said and focus on the problem with the machine forget about adding the SSD and free that from you're mind because that is not the issue at hand.
Once they take the machine outta the box and see the screen freaked out that will be enough for them to know its broken. Unless there are signs of damage throughout which it sounds like there is none other then removing the sticker you should have 0 to worry about.
I really doubt Beach Camera will be doing the repair anyhow and will probably just replace it and send that one packing to MSI.
I believe Beach Camera is pretty large company as well so i dont think will sit around and scrutinize a sticker being removed.
-
Yeah the screen is more then likely shot. With all my past experience and seeing people with similar issues it came down to a bad panel.
-
I have seen that MSI dragon guy post a few times in the past couple days but i think he is the only one and i dont know how active he is.
I do not know how fast the turn around time is for repairs but sometimes things can take days or weeks that is why i would explore the return/exchange option first. -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah, don't risk the warranty but in the worst case it is a fairly simple job.
-
steam is ed and all my drivers are up to date, i dont know what to do =( everything else works fine but i cant play my games so im pretty bummed out,,,
also the "G"button on the center right console...it that supposed to stay lit after i press it or no?
thanks -
DISREGARD,! uninstall and fresh install did the trick =)
-
I received my machine and found that the "I" key is loose. The rear of the key (near 8 and 9) flips up with nearly every press. The key usually does not respond till it is pressed back in place. Other than that I love it. I purchased from Gentech and had great service from Ken Lee. I sent him some photos of the problem key. Anybody else have a keyboard problem or know of an easy fix? There are metal brackets arising from the base of the keyboard on each side of the rear of the key (the rear is what flips up to about 30 degrees). I wonder if something on the bottom of the key is broken, but it is hard to see. I hate to return for a repair over this one issue. It would be nice to repair at home and am wondering if a little super glue on the tip of the metal brackets might work. I'm not doing anything till I get some advice. Thanks

Hi, I trying to install the 320.49 driver for it right now but it won't let me. I tried to use modded ini file at page 91 but have no luck. Anybody success on that?

In case nobody has noticed, MSI has updated the fan control system on the GT60 2OD (it has increased the RPM by default, temperatures are much much lower now... Direct link MSI Global â Download Center
-
-
Unfortunately I have not played any games so far, but at idle the speed of the fan is increased a bit and it keeps the system cooler by about 3-4 degrees... Now its very late here (passed 4 am) and I am going to sleep. I will try tomorrow but most probably will be others coming up with a report before me.
-
-
If you can post the difference before and after would be good to see. -
Check the link here, and then the follow up with a couple more tips a page or two later.... worked great, drivers installed just fine. I've been running them a few days with good results. -
-
Sort of weird question but is it easy to take the stickers off?
-
-
) the system fan turns on for about few seconds at ~75% of the speed, I think it does some tests... It is a bit annoying, knowing that before it was very silent.
Other then that, I think it is more or less the same, except at idle the system fan runs at higher RPM, but it is not noisy.
My advice is, if at idle you have no issues with your temperature or fan noise, do not update your system to this version (there is no need), because it does not increase the speed while gaming, it is still the same. I think this was made for people with the NSTECH fan issue...
I thought I should add here more information instead of writing another post...
For those of you who have the NSTECH fan and do not have money or do not want to upgrade / change it to T&T model (and do not mind voiding the warranty for the fan), open the sticker behind the fan and put a single drop of oil (The same oil used for the rechargeable shaving machines - Braun for example), just one drop, not more than that and let it sit for 5 minutes until the oil goes all the way down.
Please note: do not meddle with the fan, do not touch anything as you may end up damaging it or with more noise than what you already get (This fan has some rollers inside and those are making a lot of noise; while applying little bit of oil it will be smoother and more silent then what you are getting now; I guarantee that the noise you are getting now it will be reduced by atleast 50%). -
At POST it spools up, then slows back down. I also notice no difference under load/gaming. Disappointed, was hoping they sped it up a bit!
EDIT: IKAS V, yes, the stickers come off easily. Gently peal, then the residue wipes off without any issue. I took a couple of them off myself. -
Anyone know how to go about getting an unlocked bios? I want to be able to take advantage of my 4900MQs unlocked turbo multis. I am hoping a fully unlocked bios will give me access to TDP and I will be able to OC with XTU.
-
The only one I know who will be able to do that is Svl7 from tech|inferno. He is also a member on this forum and he may most probably see my notes
. You could PM him about it...
-
-
Huh, I don't know.... I don't think my temps really changed, nor I noticed any particular change inthe fan RPMs. Maybe I didn't install it correctly....
-
Also , it is normal without overclocking, the HybridPower (NOS) works in game? (GT60 20D 4700QM and GTX 780m)
I tested without battery (HybridPower off force), the CPU throttle (0.8ghz/1.3ghz!) in 3dmark and game, the gpu is ok full
normal?
Thanks -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Usually the CPU skips cycles rather than changing its frequency to throttle, what's the throttle % in intel XTU?
-
So there are new fans in the latest versions of the GT60 that are a tad better? If so.. does this also apply to the GT70 model or just GT60?
-
Gentech is great, I have been dealing with Ken for years.
As for the banner in the signature it's just a way of saying thanks for great service and showing you're appreciation.
Totally optional and more just a gesture of goodwill.
If everyone that had the banner in their signature was working for Gentech that would be one gigantic payroll each month.
 -
Upon further use, I would advise against installing the updated EC fan profile... it has made my fan idle a bit faster which with the NStech fan makes the "rattling" sound much more noticeable. Also, it spools the fan to FULL speed when first starting up or waking from sleep, which it didn't do before and is annoying. And finally fan speeds under load seem to be no different and still too hot (non turbo fan mode), so they made changes but didn't bother to actually fix the problem. I'd advise staying away! If I could easily reflash to the old EC firmware I would, but I don't know where to locate the file.
-
I guess you can write to MSI and ask them to send it to you. If I knew the name of the file, I may have been able to help you...
