My actual voltage increase from stock which is 1.012 to 1.05. The temperatures is around 87c in sleeping dog. It hot as hell in Texas now(100F plus outside). This is with turbo fan on.

As far as I know, you can't put a 2.5" drive in place of the super raid 2 adapter. You need another adapter that gives you a full sata interface. Not sure where to get that though.

Hmm then the retailers must have an adaptor or something as they offer an upgrade to add a 2.5 drive in the space. So its not just a mSata card that plugs into a sata3 port is it like the GE40?

I yeah sorry, I see it. Yep not possible without the adaptor that gentech and xotic etc have... They must have one if they offer a 2.5" in that bay.

You could always put a drive in the optical bay of course.

    Well it's finally here :)

    Initial thoughts:
Build quality is excellent, love the keyboard and for a stock screen it's beautiful, W8 is a pain, while I'm no noob when it comes to this sort of stuff there is a learning curve and I'm still learning.
    On to downloading my stuff...

First thing you should do is install Classic Shell and you will be right back at home Windows 7 style in about 3 seconds. To me it was the only thing missing in Windows 8 and they fixed it.

Enjoy your new rig, i know it has been a longer journey then most for you to decide which machine you wanted next.

No the real Start menu is not back which many people still want desperately. Since Classic Shell is out there though for me its a non issue whether Microsoft wakes up and understands people that are not using touch screens want to use Windows like they always have.

My GT60 is now delayed, in the dreaded hands FedEx customs...they have delayed it demanding commercial invoicing (Even if it was attached to the box), blah blah blah .....Sucks importing from the US to europe. Now that horrible 21% tax I was hoping to avoid :(

Unfortunately not. Unless it was the that reseller barebones model which wasn't exactly cheaper. Overpriced :( In the past I had no issues. But all outside shipments from the EU are now stopped and taxed. Unless its under 150 euros value. Well in Spain at least.

I need US keyboards on my notebooks so always imported them. Next time I'm on stop over in L.A will have to time it in to get my next gaming/powerful notebook. .

Awesome man! Congrats! I do advise against trying to love Windows 8, as you will discover more and more things that might get on your nerves :p I know I was going crazy with simple stuff like the software to watch pictures, skype as an app vs a program etc.

Not worth doing the cooling upgrade. Difference is minimal like 1-2 degrees. What we need is a faster and quieter fan design from MSI ;)

My brother is visiting from another state so I haven't really gamed on it too much yet but did play Crysis 3 for about 2 hours just to see how things run and it was fantastic, meaning the laptop handled it flawlessly :), played at the highest settins and temps were good. Love this laptop so far!
As for W8 I installed classic shell and now it's great I have the start button back :) it's a great little program for those not used to W8 and gives you basics of W7.Thank you Quadzilla and Ryzeki for pointing it out.
Hey Ryzeki can you do me a favor and help me find were Pherein's Fan tool ( or whatever it's called) for some reason I can't find it anyware to download, a direct link would be awseome.
    Thanks

LOL! I made the transition the old fashion way...... a few hours of cursing, '@#&K'ing MS $h|+!'..... then a settling calm, 'Hmmmm, this WIN 8 not toooo bad'..... and I haven't looked back. I am still not using Classic Shell, but I may give it a try. I understand MS will give us some relief before the end of the year, with incremental Windows Updates as they transition us to '8.1 Final'. Can you imagine all the WIN 8 folks who have adjusted to how things are, scratching theirs heads after these updates, asking themselves, 'WHAaaa...... WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED to my Windows 8 ???'

    :D :D :D

Hi guys! I've just decided (based on the mostly positive reviews on here) that I'd also like to become a GT60 20D owner. However, seeing as I currently live in the Netherlands, the problem that I'm facing right now is that there are no retailers here which sell the GT60. I was wondering if any of you would happen to know a distributor/etc. who shipped to here for good prices and within a relatively quick period of time?

    Here I'm back :D Been a while !
It's currently really hot here in France (around 30°C average for 2 weeks now), and the laptop is getting hotter too :D

I was wondering what software you are using in order to calibrate your screen ?
Do you guys also have any "clouding" ?

    Thx for the response :)

If doing it by eye you can just do it with the graphics hardware, but to do it properly you need a hardware calibrator.

I've actually read a lot of mix reviews about this kind of fan set up, in that it actually disturbs the air flow and increases temperatures. Now the intake would be beneficial just do to the fact that your increasing the air intake cfm. Will it be a big improvement, no, but it would defiantly increase the longevity of your system. I would say just stick with a note book cooler if that what your aiming for.

hmm i wonder is that the operation concept for notebook cooler and candy base cooler are the same since they both are push cold air ?
air flow can be disturb by close/block all the hole or it can say affect by the area of the space

Yes, the general consensus of a laptop cooler is to increase air flow to the laptop, being that 99.9% of laptops have their intake vents on the bottom, laptop coolers blow air upward. Now I'm pretty sure your aware of the concept of a laptop cooler, in the fact that when a laptop is on a flat surface, it develops heat pockets of hot air because fresh cool air is not being introduced, the laptop warms up the area around so warm/hot air is being recycled into the system. Just the fact alone of elevating your laptop will increase air flow and reduce the heat pockets under your system. Now add a laptop cooler to elevator your system and add fans to the mix and you have increased your systems cooling abilities. Now everyone has their own option on laptop coolers, either they are completely useless or they help out is really up to you and what kind of laptop you have, some laptops have bigger intake vent so some people get mixed results. I was in the processes of modifying my laptop cooler to get almost desktop cooling capabilities, being that all laptop cooler fans, which are case fans that run on a 5v powers source being a UBS 2.0 port and majority of case fans are powered by a 12v source, you really aren't getting the max cfm out of the fan. Static pressure does come into play but that's a whole another topic.

Welcome to the GT60 club articreaver!

Also just got my Dell 240W Slim PS and adapter and it works great! No issues so far.

Ran 3dmark11 GPU OC 135/500 and CPU 40x all cores. Got NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M video card benchmark result - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4900MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4 . Not looking to bad! No issues with test and it ran perfectly without any errors. I am thinking the system is using the extra power. Doesn't seem to have any throttling. I may have to unlock the vbios to further test the GPU and push the core.

I decided against unlocking my regular bios due to others reporting no real benefits and really confusing options. I'll stick with stock for now, even though I have an unlock vbios sent to me from slv7.

Temps were also awesome during this test. AC is on and temperature is around 75f in the room. With Turbo Fan ON I got 70C max GPU, and 72/73C max cores. Very happy with those temps with the nice OC I am running. I also have the laptop flat on a cooler NC2000.

Because without battery (for me!) , the gpu and cpu is limited perfance in gaming!

To determine whether or not 180watts bios limit

Figured I would let you folks know that the ddr3 memory can OC very well. I did a lot of testing yesterday and these are my results: 9.10.9.26 at 1600. That's much better than 11.11.11.28 at 1600. I could probably drop the last value and first or 3rd another number but I don't like to push things to their limit. The ram did not want to run at 1866 unless I did 11.12.11.28 which to me is just to high. I did the OC using intel XTU. It bumped up my 3dmark11 physics score by about 200 points. It's not a mind blowing difference but it puts this laptop closer to what you will find in a desktop PC. As always OC is not guaranteed.

    Cheers!

P.S Anyone know where I can find unlocked bios? Or have some they can send me [email protected]. Also what program are yall using to do it? XTU doesn't seem to OC the CPU properly. Thanks!

Yes did not use my unlocked bios. It looks like the system still is not using this 240w power supply fully. If I remove the battery to test it as suggested, the system gets worse results. But I was able to OC more easily using the 240w it seemed. 3dmark11 seemed to be more stable and always finished without a hitch, and my results were the best I've gotten. Maybe the battery has to be in the system to get best results?

The more I use my new GT60 the more I like it, very impressed with the performance stock but it can easily do better.

This is very weird my laptops fan runs on full blast after booting up and I no longer see nvidia drivers or nvidia control panel. I'm thinking the two have something in common.

Doing a system restore now. Also noticing that my power button is always on orange color?

Because , my GT60 (no battery or level battery is 30%) , the performance is very bad ! throttle cpu (0.8/1.2ghz!!) and gpu is limited by cpu.

so when the battery is dead(in 3/4 years) , the pc is unusable (i think...)
