Ya I'm not convinced it won't use the extra power. O well! I wanted to test it and try.
My best run so far though.

Looks like I have a defective unit from xotic pc. The laptop completely can not see the dedicated graphics card. The fan is set on full blast as soon as I sign into windows.
Device manager does not show the video card at all.
I'm kinda upset because this is now 2 laptops in a row that have crapped on me the first day. -
-
Someone earlier mentioned that their power button is always orange. This is the case for me too. Is this a problem? What does it mean? What should I do to fix it if it is a problem?
Just got my laptop yesterday and hadn't read about the power button light meaning anything. I have noticed that when I turn my laptop off the light turns white for a moment right before shutting down completely. -
Is there a download for the unlocked bios? My GT60 is on the fedex truck out for delivery
-
Great score mate.
What GPU core clocks were you running ? Did you use SVL7 modded vbios ? I believe you will achieve better results with his vbios at similar clocks.
If anyone got a power meter, then you could measure the power draw from the wall =) also see if the battery gets discharged as much as before with the 240W adapter. This 4900mq looks sweat!
Oh and what is your higher MEM overclock until you get any artefacts ? Because of the Samsung FC03 VRAM used with MSI cards, everyone was expecting a higher RAM overclock...but no one came across 3000mhz+ yet it seems..
-
just my luck.
so i called tech support. we troubleshooted my laptop.
we have concluded that i have a bad video card. it does not detect in device manager. attempted to install original and new drivers failed because every time the installer would give me an error message about my current video card is incompatible with the drivers i am trying to install. and i believe this is what is causing my laptop fan to go on full blast once booted.
just my luck.... -
Try a full system restore with the image provided. Maybe something just got messed up? I would at least try that before going through the hassle of waiting and sending back.
You could also ask tech support if they would allow you to try and reseat the video card. But get that in writing via an email from tech support.
-
i'm going to have to do an RMA on this bad boy. so i guess another 3 weeks of waiting? might just cancel. -
hey guys so nVidia released the 320 drivers official...
but I'm having trouble installing them. Keeps telling me it can't detect hardware. Probably an issue with optimus... I guess I'll just force the 780m for this bit?
What's the bios command to force the 780m to run? -

Whoops, sorry about that. I haven't visited this page in a while xD
anyone successfully mod the INF file(s)? I've been trying for a while no luck -

i also went with xotic pc because they handled my PC. as in putting in the IC diamond thermal paste. so i would expect them to do the same for the exchange. and also i choose the 30 day no dead pixel policy option that was available to me.
but you are right, i'm going to ask for an exchange and not a RMA. -
So someone DID have working inf file...
but when installing I get a "Driver_Power_State_Failure" bluescreen. ech.
Guess I wait -.-;; -

I had a bad A-Data memory module in my unit..... immediately box it up, and sent it back to GenTech. While I was at it, I had them do some upgrades (processor, WiFi, and new Plextor SSD's) for me. I sent it back to GenTech via 'GROUND', and had it back 9 days later..... new 32GB SuperTalent memory replacement, all other upgrades...... 9 days, and the system is now working perfectly.
-
uhm.
Uh. Right. This might be bad.
So after I tried to install the driver (didn't work) whenever I boot up, the login screen still works but when once I log in the screen goes black and on the top left corner the power/battery icon flashes, before the computer kicks me back out to the login screen. I can boot into safe mode, but whenever I try to enter normally... this happens. ._.
Does anyone have ANY ideas? -
this is apparently a very bad week for me PC/Laptop wise. my gaming rig at home, the PSU failed. actually it started to produce smoke with i turned on the PC. i'm glad enermax has a 3 year warranty on their PSUs but now i have no gaming rigs at the moment....
-
Update: Phew, found a restore point right before the driver tried to install. Thank the gods for nVidia knowing something might **** up
Guess I'll wait for the official release... egh.
UPDATE 2: Wasn't as fixed as I thought it was... 780m isn't detected but my intel GPU is disabled in the device manager. When I re-enable it... the same black screen with power icon on the top right occurs again.
What to do -
PROVANTAGE: MSI GT60 2OD-026US MSI Notebook GT60 2OD-026US 15.6 Core I7-4700MQ 16GB DR3 128G+750G GTX780M W8 --Mine came with 1TB 5400RPM. I believe the description is wrong. I did overnight shipping and it was to me the next day.
This is $2034.00 OUT THE DOOR with next day AM FedEX. Came perfect condition, no dead pixels. Also they have a 30 day no questions asked full 100% refund. All you pay is shipping. Not many companies offer that kind of policy. Most require a restocking fee. I've ordered from them a few times now and they have always delivered.
If you order within the next hour I bet you will get that new unit in your hands the next day in the morning.
If I were you, I would call XoticPC up and tell them to overnight you a new unit now, and then let you send the broken unit back. You already waited this long and they didn't deliver a working unit. If they don't, then tell them you want to return it for a full refund. -
I have to agree on the waiting with Xotic... you ordered LONG before I did, and still don't have a machine to enjoy. They should be bending over backwards to help you out. I went with Amazon, $3.99 next day shipping. Ordered on Saturday night, had in my hands Tuesday at lunch... two weeks ago.
Sorry for the struggles on the GPU! -

UPDATE 3!
Okay. So, I had several system restore points on hand. One for today when I tried to update, and one 2 days ago when I installed directX crap for Fallout New Vegas.
When I restore to one today, the settings had the iGPU off because I turned it off before trying to update the drivers. The computer reboots fine.... but there's no driver on the 780m and the iGPU is disabled (so I have no bloody idea what the hell I'm running off of atm LOL)
When I restore to the point 2 days ago, the iGPU was still on and the computer boots into the black screen error.
So: here's what I think.
There's clearly a driver issue, and I think it has to do with the 780m, since I updated iGPU drivers in safemode, rebooted, and it didn't fix it. However, I can't pin down why, other than that my driver for the 780m is corrupted/nonexistant/just messed up in some way because the driver failed to install halfway and the system basically BSOD'd.
the only solution I can think of is to either revert to the old drivers (which I can't find anywhere) or wait for nvidia to release the next batch of drivers that are 780m MSi certified.
If any of you have any ideas that'd be greatly appreciated !
EDIT: @ Striker (is that how you say it) where to find the factory drivers? -
I am running a modded 326.01 driver that i did myself along with the SVL7 Vbios but when i ran the 324.09 ? modded driver that someone had modded on this board after a few reboots i would be stuck at a black screen and have to enter safe mode to remove the driver and revert back to factory..
This 326.01 driver though has been rock solid for a week so i left it.
Not sure when we will see updated drivers because it is my understanding that MSI has there own doodads in the driver for hybrid mode so we might have to wait for MSI everytime to get an official driver update but i am not positive on that one since my driver is using hybrid mode according the applet telling me its working with hybrid mode. I did use most of the info from the MSI inf so that might be why its still working for me.
You can download all the factory drivers right here.
MSI Global GT70 Dragon Edition 2 -
i'm beginning to lose faith in these guys. i have a HP laptop right now (think god this thing didn't break down, yet...) and i thought HP was bad.
but the HP never gave me problems like Lenovo and MSI. damn i have to admit that HP delivers on the quality as it never given me ANY problems.
i'm not sure if xotic pc would overnight me a new unit. i just don't think it would happen. i placed my original order on June 26th in the morning. so counting only business days, that is 13 business days before i received the ship. i think i will be lucky if i they ship my exchange unit out in 3-5 business days.
provantage site, i like the price but i don't see them as an authorized reseller for MSI. at this point i just don't know who to trust anymore. -
Gentech is in my own personal experience as good as it is going to get as far as resellers go. Bought many systems from Ken@Gentech over the years and it does not get any simpler then dealing with him..
-
Maybe I'll give the 326.01 a shot. heh. -
You need a modded Vbios and a custom inf plus running Windows 8 in test mode to even install 326.01.
The nvidia driver is right there under downloads . It says Nvidia N14x something or other.
Better yet just click US when this link opens..
http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-21545.html -
-
Yeah just stick with the factory stuff till you get your machine sorted .
Also i agree with the naming scheme because they have probably received quite a few phone calls from confused people over that one.
If you keep having issues though you might want to consider just doing a factory recovery even though that should be the last resort and something you probably already considered but certainly worth noting. -
Well I installed the drivers but it's still not reading the card, and my iGPU is still disabled (scared to turn it back on... but I guess this is when I find out) If that doesn't work, I'll try the modded 326. If THAT doesn't work... then... bugger. I'll save all the things I have and do a factory restore I guess -.-
-
Update ...4?
Installed the 314 drivers... can enable the iGPU without black screen... but the system won't detect or use the 780m. Sigh. Maybe I'll install the bloody 326 drivers -.- -
Your IGP is disabled what ??. Download the IGP drivers from the same GT70 Dragon edition link i posted. Then go into programs and features and remove the Intel HD drivers then reboot. Now reinstall those then try to install the Nvidia drivers afterward .
I think the reason you cannot install the Nvidia driver is because of the IGP being disabled. They form a band and work together so the IGP needs to be working.
Also remove any Nvidia drivers in the programs and features as well before you install the intel or the Nvida drivers you downloaded.
But first google Classic Shell and download that so you can navigate Windows 8 like a normal human being should without being frustrated just dealing with the OS then all the other problems you are having.
326.01 will never work on your current setup so just forget i mentioned those . -
I disabled the iGPU because on my old laptop whenever I updated drivers sometimes the intel one would get in the way. Anyway, the iGPU is enabled, no errors for now, 780m is not working, but I'll do a clean install of the nVidia right now
-
also reading what took so long with my order, apparently Xotic PC does the following -
72 Hour stress testing and benchmarking to ensure top performance and stability
and this makes me question if they did it or not? -
Right I think everything is working for now... I'll come back if I bump into any more errors D:
-
Got my GT60 from HIDevolution.com, great guys and service. Recommend if your ordering outside USA. (Ask for Ted).
First impressions.
Pros
Good overall build quality.
Nice desktop level power, its a beast. (Bets my Desktop!)
Nice screen (stock)
Quite on iGPU
Keyboard backlighing is nice. Have set it to dark blue. Very cool.
Cons
Tacky painted on MSI logo on the bezel is cheap...Bad move MSI
Screen bezel is way to large I feel, they could have slimmed that down a bit...
Some keyboard flex in the middle, could be better.
Some fan noise whine. Comes on and off sounds like a buzz, whine noise. Like a HDD. But im running a 840 pro in mine.
Turbofan is just way to loud. Will not be using that!
Runs a little hot....I dont use notebook coolers. Guess I was too use to my quieter Asus G74 etc
Over all better than the G750 I almost got (personal opinion). However I will have my hands on a G750 in a week to compare the two. (More on that when I get the G750JX 770M)
My video of the turbo fan noise once pushed. Nobody wanted to make public, when I ask for a vid of the noise. So here it is. If anyone wants more vids I can add them if I have time.

To be honest I did record some videos, but my own camera filters and then my mic diminished the sound greatly. I couldn't really portray reality so I gave up on it.

Please makes sure you remove both drivers (NVidia and Intel) for the graphic cards, do a driver sweeper and ccleaner, restart your system. Then install first the iGPU driver (intel) and last after restarting the NVidia driver. I have attached the inf file for the 320.49 driver. You can download the driver from NVidia. Once you extracted the driver, overwrite with the inf file attached here.
If this does not solve your problem, then you have some hardware issue. There is no way on earth it will not work, since I have tried many times on different machines setup with the similar type of hardware.

here is my video of my problem. recorded on iphone 5 so maybe the quality is not good. but i think it shows the issues - GPU and Fan.

Also, the fan sounds pretty loud for just running desktop and not gaming.
You could open the notebook up, locate the GPU, remove the heatsink, see if the GPU somehow is not attached properly with the motherboard. That is something that almos never happens though so probably not. You must repaste the GPU if you do that since the paste thats in there now will be ruined when you remove the heatsink.
You might have to send it in im afraidLast edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
The fan does goes full blast without nVidia Video card installed:
Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
Since his fan goes on full blast, means his GPU is either dead or not properly inserted i assume? Probably dead i guessLast edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
anyways, i downloaded the newest nvidia drivers and it was the same error message. i don't feel comfortable enough to go into the laptop. too much work for something that i should not even have to do.
when speaking with the tech, when i tried to install the nvidia drivers from the MSI CD, the option to install the nvidia drivers were not even present. the weirdest thing of all isn't it?
question -
since i did my IC Diamond Install from Xotic PC does re-pasting the CPU also remove the heat sink / fan off the GPU since isn't there only 1 heatsink for both the CPU and GPU? -
As Ken mentioned, when the GPU fails and it is no longer detected, the laptop goes to full blast with the fan. I tested it on my barebone removing the 680m and it went full 100% fan.
-
Repasting the CPU does need to remove the GPU portion of the heatsink. The thing is, the GPU heatsink goes on top of the CPU part so you can repaste the GPU alone, but you have to repaste both if you want to repaste the CPU.
