Yes shutdown completely a couple times too make sure . On the modded 320.49 i had a similar experience and eventually my machine booted too a black screen only. My modded 320.16 work just fine but i am hoping these work as intended because id rather run something semi official.
Strange physx failed to install. Geforce experience is garbage to me so im fine with that portion not working.
Going to try in abit myself.

I'm going to test ride a G750 770M tomorrow, run some games and benches etc. And will make a hard choice on the future of my GT60....Keep it and hope for a new fan profile and heat issue fix. Try to get a replacement DVD drive and noisy idle NStech fan. So many issues out of the box really dulls things a bit for me. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso

You can also take matters into hand and make your own fan profile which is not hard at all. 770m is quite weaker than 780m but it might suit you better.
Now the machine getting too hot is not much of a problem as long as it delivers the performance expected. Mine does get to 92 degrees on the GPU on the stock profile but I have only seen one time where it downclocked to 700mhz instead of stock 770mhz. And it was 34 ambient temps.
Right now I use it fully overclocked with my own fan profile for a max fan speed of 75% and I enjoy less noise than full turbofan but good temps around 80C degrees. -
I saw this coming from hendrickson since he had been talking all along about high temps and other things so it was natural that just using the machine stock his GPU gets those crazy temps. Mine does as well and trust me i was just as shocked till i started using the fan program which does help. I use Phereins fan app because its customizable based on your current temp so it spins the fan up and down based on the temp instead of just running it at 80% till you click off . So for me it has been more of a set it and forget it solution which i am grateful for.
The Asus is going to be considerably cooler in every regard and not make any noise at all so regardless of the FPS hit you are going to take from the 770m i think you will be better suited with the Asus based on all the posts i have read from you.
The Asus and MSI machines are truly different animals and the MSI needs more babysitting because of the fans or till you start using a fan tool then its like any other laptop but yeah outta the box it can be abit jarring at first since i felt the same way.
Good luck on your decision and all machines have pros/cons no matter which you pick. -
Anybody have an opinion about the wireless card issue?
-
Yes my personal opinion since i just read your last post is go for the Intel Card.
Since it is only a few dollars more now and i know it works great i would save yourself any potential hassle in the future and get the AC card now.
Also if you get or have a AC router another no brainer reason to get the card now instead of having to swap it yourself later.
I would like to have that card myself very much so if that is any indication of where i stand i hope it helps. -
Thanks Quadzilla!
I don't have an AC router yet, but I might buy one soon. Need to buy myself a router in the coming month to take to school, AC routers are still pretty expensive though... -
You felt the same I see at first. I have babysat many laptops i've owned before, tweaking fans etc, I used to enjoy that. But nowadays I'm a bit past some of that. Less hassle is nice. I just assumed I could power it up as is and play a game I like online at max settings without any heat issues. To my surprise no.... 770M is no beast like this 780M. I think it maxes out at around 70-75 degrees on the dual fan G750.
Thing is will Its power be enough now I'm use to the 780M. Tomorrow when its delivered, I will find out. As long as my fav games can play well. I think. Its all Pro's vs cons of each machine and your own personal taste and needs. -
Hey guys, I just bought the MSI GT60 2OD, I've been very happy so far.
I've been playing Dead Space 3 Flawlessly on max settings, I then installed StarCraft 2 and Portal 2 and they get insane FPS drops until game crashes.
Anybody have an idea what might be happening. Temp never goes higher than 72° celsius (I'm using Speccy to get temps). It's like the computer just slowes down and then the game just either crashes or recovers to full FPS rates.
I don't understand why this might be problem since the games are running flawlessly until all of a sudden the just become very slow and no problems with Dead Space 3.
Your help would be greatly appreciated -
If you decide to keep the GT60 because you enjoy the power of the 780m then let me know ill send you the fan tool that will run at start up and it will kick on the fans when they need to be on and spin them down when they dont need to be going full blast. Its the way the manufacture should have done it but people dont want all that noise and sadly this is the side effect of such a powerful GPU .
Other companies like Dell right now are throttling the GPU at 66 degrees lol so MSI could have done that and sure the notebook would be cool but the GPU would feel like its running on battery when playing games.
There is always trade offs to be made and thankfully for the Alienware guys a Vbios can overcome that but then the card runs hotter even with the fans blowing max.
The 770m is still a great card that will run cooler and provide a good/great gaming experience if you are fine with running less games maxed out which some are and some arent. Again trade offs..
I have a feeling once you experience the Asus you will be sending the GT60 packing based on how you want a computer to behave and the Asus is pretty much the take it out of the box and use it kinda machine and heck that is why the seal everything off from the owners because you dont need to touch and they dont want you to touch it.

On another note, and the reason I popped back into this thread; does anyone know what size the mSATA mounting screws are? I'll be adding a drive when the machine gets here and want to be ready to install it properly if possible.
Thanks in advance,
Mike -
Just send me a PM with your email address and ill forward it with the instructions.

Some good news after playing with the fan controller.
P8344 3dmark 2011. +135 + 500 Stock vbios, stock 780m driver. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4
Not bad I thought. Finally with the fans fixed to 80% my temps are acceptable too. Be it a bit too loud.
If I game at 2560 x 1440p Its a good 10 degrees more on the CPU/GPU. 1440p is taxing -
-
I've overclocked the cores as much as I could using XTU (Intel extreme tuning utility) that increases it a little.
-
Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4
EDIT: Curious Hendrickson, mind sharing what you have tweaked in XTU and what version you are having luck with? I'm using 3.2, and have bumped the ring ratio to 36x and the 4 active cores all bumped to 36,35,34,34. But, honestly I am not familiar with the utility. Thanks!
Also, I am using the modified vBios from techinferno and had voltage bumped up just a fuzz for that run. Otherwise 3DMark11 would crash out. -
I'm using the latest version. Like you ring ratio to 36x and the 4 active cores all bumped to 36,35,34,34
And undervolted the CPU voltage offset to -60mV helps run the CPU a little cooler I found. 3-4 degrees at best. Seems stable so far and passed 10 minutes of XTU stress testing. I'm still tweaking and experimenting with XTU. -
This is the highest physics score I've seen so far.

Wow at that crazy "highest score." -
Well, was curious so ran again: P8566
Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4
Still no where near the physics score you are getting Hendrickson, so props! Not sure why mine is so much lower, but this was with XTU bumped clocks as well. Doesn't seem to matter if I run the GPU at stock or OC either, so struggle to think it's a power draw issue. This was with GPU at +162/+500. Temps are still cool with Turbo boost. -
Same tweaks and everything. Still to unlock my 135 core limit. Might do that soon.
-
so about the fan and heat, would the copper cooling upgrade option help with the heat?
edit:
also, what the wireless issue. for 9 bucks i can have the - ntel® Dual Band Advanced-N 6235 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth 4.0 + vHS Combo Card | Up to 300Mbps
is that one better than the stock bigfoot networks killer? -
Also, Hendrickson, curious how are you able to get the CPU settings to stick in the latest version of XTU? I pulled my battery to repaste and the overclock settings reverted back to stock. I have since updated to the latest version of XTU based on your previous post, where as was using 3.2 as recommended from the GT70 thread.... curious if you might have a tip before I uninstall and go back to 3.2? Your Physics scores are obviously using the higher clocks! Thanks!
I repasted with IC Diamond today and put a dab of white lithium grease on the NStech fan shaft while I had everything apart... I'll report in with any changes in temps/noise, but on first startup it does appear the fan is a bit quieter with the "growl". Should get a bit better as well once the grease works through.
And finally, tried to pop in an 8GB stick of 1866mhz Corsair Vengeance just to see what would happen, it was read along with the stock 16GB ram for a total of 24GB, but something wasn't quite right with WEI score, dropped down to 5.8! It seems the stock RAM is 1.35v and the Vengeance is 1.5v. I would have tried to just run the Vengeance but didn't have much luck popping the top panel free to remove the keyboard so gave up before I broke/scratched something. -
submitted a change for this one -
Intel® Dual Band AC 7260 802.11 A/AC/B/G/N 2.4/5.0GHz + Bluetooth 4.0 / WiDi | Up to 300/867Mbps (2x2)
it was only 15 dollars more. -

It's mostly for those planning to get an AC router at some point, but it's no worse than the non AC adapters.

Yayyy, submitted an order for mine today!
Should have it in a week or less.

Anyone getting BSOD when using the USB3 ports randomly? I get a SECURITY KERNEL BSOD.... Its driving me nuts. This MSI just doesn't like me

And, on a different note, still tinkering with how to improve my physics scores if possible ha! Been tinkering with Inspector and the GPU, and it does overclock quite well: P8572
Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4
Broke 9000 on graphics score and temps never passed 75C, with fans at 80% I'd love to see it with a decent physics score I've seen others post with the 4700MQ. On this run I never saw the CPU pass 32x for some reason. Fun machine!
EDIT:
Well, went back to Intel Xtreme Tuning 3.2 and got the CPU bumped up a bit, got a physics score of 7903 which is about as fast as I ever see, and about 200 points faster than stock. Graphics score of 9023, P8637
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6896653
Hey Talon let me borrow that 4900 for a run... I'd love to break 9K! -
Graphics score of 9023!!!
-
Wow, very nice score be77solo!!!
You're making me want to load w8.
I tried the 326.19 drivers and they do not work anywhere near as well as the 311.48 for w7.
Comparing your score with some of mine I see real FPS increases with updated drivers.
I believe with more refinement in nvidia drivers we will see more output from the 780s. -
I have installed the latest beta NVidia driver and it worked like butter. No issues with the installation (everything was installed without any problems, however I did a drive fusion, ccleaner and disabled my antivirus when installing the new driver). I have to check how it performs in games... As per the bluetooth issue, I do not know if I will face any problems anymore because I have disabled my killer blutooth and bought a $6 gigabyte bluetooth usb dongle which works without any problems. I will give it a trial later and see if the issue is still there.
My advice is to do the same as I did; the killer wireless card is a good card but their software support sucks, since the $6 bluetooth external usb dongle solved my problem I am not too much worried about that anymore.
My next project is to drill some wholes in the back cover and see if that will help with the cooling issue. I think it may be possible to get a little bit of temperature drop since it will also take cool air from down and not only from the radiator and it will push the cool air out... I do not know, lets see. I will keep you guys updated. -

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Get all your benchmarks in before then guys because I will then be rolling into town and I wont be taking prisoners. -
Update about that beta driver: for some reason it eats up my RAM (memory, for babies
). I've noticed that it went all the way down from 16GB to about 250MB. I google it and it seams that a video driver sometimes does this to the system. Some glitch instead of focusing on the video memory, takes the ram memory. Strange things happen sometimes...
-
So basically, what drivers do you guys currently recommend ? I'm still running on the 311.48 (stock drivers when purchased the MSI).
Are there any drivers better than those for the moment ?
I'm playing Tomb Raider with fraps : 60 fps but with a few stutters which I guess, are driver issues because fraps still indicates me 60 fps during these moments... -
Nice scores by the way!!!!! -
How do you guys do to get so high 3D Mark points ?
I'm using 3D MARK 11 Basic on steam, and only get between 7190 and 7300 pts !
Is it normal ?
I'm using everything in stock settings.
Thx -
Because they are overclocking both CPU and GPUMSI afterburn to overclock the 780M and Intel XTU for the CPU.
Sad news, My GT60 is boxed up and ready to head back where it came from. Well a friend is buying it now.
I'm moving back to the G750 camp. In 3 days of testing, I found the G750 is better for my needs. Better build qaulity, keyboard, cooling, heat and noise levels. 770M is not a patch on the 780M, but hell the 770M can still play skyrim highres pack at 2560 x 1440p on Ultra - 60fps. Thats enough for my needs. End Of the day it came down to system noise and heat Vs GPU power I need to run what I need.
My MSI also had, idle fan noise buzz that drove me insane (NSTech fan), Faulty blu ray player. Random BSOD always on clean installs with all drivers from MSI site.
Thank you to those that helped me with my temp and fan control issues.
Best of luck reaching 10k in 3dmark 11
My G750JX tops out at 5900, a lot weaker. -
Juliant do me a favor and shutdown Afterburner but leave HWinfo open and watch how your RAM will probably not go past 29% or so.
I spent the better part of the day figuring this out because i kept getting low memory errors and if i let Windows manage a pagefile it will grow to 16gb plus just benchmarking something as small as Crysis 1 or Vantage.
I tried this on Windows 8 and 8.1 preview ISO fresh same outcome with Afterburner running. Someone else on the boards i spoke to last night said they didnt have the problem and are running Afterburner same versions etc.
Something is a miss but the driver and Afterburner are not playing nice together in certain scenarios.
I only have 8gigs and probably why i discovered it faster then most. Some people are rocking 32gigs and will never even notice. -
What version of Afterburner are you on? I'm using v3.00 beta 11. I have Office 2003, Acrobat 11 and various other apps installed on my Windows 8.1 preview, including classic shell Riva Tuner, 3Dmark11, and all drivers installed + apps I use normally. Also, I don't use paging file. Everything on mine is turned off on all drives. Running all from ram (VERY stable) Never had a crash. Also using 329.19 beta drivers here. I did another fresh install of win 8.1 yesterday w/ 329.19 beta drivers installed, but left out Geforce Experience.
When I boot, / no apps loaded, the resource monitor shows this:

Maybe I'm lucky. But no problems here what so ever. Played several hours of Crysis 2 (MaldoHD4.0 + Blackfire 2.0 mod / directX11) and Crysis 3 v. 1.3 for many, many hours yesterday with these settings. No problems at all (with riva tuner and afterburner running.)
Just to clarify, I have MS-1763. See my sig... -
After running 3DMark 11, I got a score of P7381, a physics score of 8166 and a graphics score of 7441. This is with an overclock on my cpu with XTU and an overclock on my 780m of 135/400. From the little I know about this kind of stuff, I think that that physics score is high while the others are low. Is there a reason for the graphics score being so low? I ran in plugged in with the battery still in, so it could tap into hybrid power if need be. What can I do to improve it?
-
Sad to see you are getting rid of yours, but I understand as well... I love the ASUS gaming line, and the build quality/feel and cooling is top notch. But, my last two laptops have been the G73 and the G46, and I was ready for a top end GPU, and really didn't want a 17". Plus cost came into play as well, as $2k was all I was willing to spend. As far as your issues, they are frustrating for sure, but I've never had a perfect machine. Tinkering/tweaks should not be needed on a $2K machine, but they seem to always be when we are wanting cutting edge performance in a portable package. So far I've addressed the following you mentioned:
-NStech fan had the annoying noise, but a dab of white lithium grease on the shaft completely stopped the noise, ie now all I hear is the slight whoosh of air depending on fan speed. Was tempted to swap to the other fan, but Cloudfire has shared that the NStech fan seems to be a bit beefier.
-fan profiles need revising from MSI, but now that we have full fan control I no longer see it as a problem. On my Asus machines I did not have manual fan control, and given the choice I'd rather have the choice. On stock profile, it does run hotter than I'd like, but total cooling capacity is absolutely fantastic. With OC'd and overvolted GPU and OC'd CPU, temps are upper 70's with 80-90% fan speed.
-Bluray issues are annoying and I haven't fully figured out where the problem lies, but I don't think it's hardware. With AnyDVD loaded, I can play Blurays perfectly in any player. Plus the drive reads the disc in explorer just fine. It appears to be a security/driver/software glitch. Definitely needs to get sorted though.
Enjoy your new G750, I know it'll be a great machine as well! I look forward to my local Best Buy getting one so I can check it out hands on. I'm sure I'll see you around the Asus boards, as I still love them as well and still have my G46 until I break down and sell it.

Yeah i just went back to my own modded 326.01 drivers since they already had 780m support just not specifically for our MSI cards but they have worked flawlessly for 10 days so ill wait for Nvidia to fix the issue. Aida might be causing the same problem because its a monitoring program as is MSI Afterburner.
The newer version of Afterburner is using less RAM but its still above ideal and nothing like any other driver.
