Don't worry. It will cut through the game like butter ;) it does on mine and I have inferior specs compared to yours (4700mq and 1x128GB mSATA).
Also welcome onboard mate  :D

Thanks for the reassurance :) Yeah even my desktop now (Core 2 Duo E8400 + GTX 260) has a hard time running a 200+200 fight with more than 20 FPS on the lowest settings possible.

My backup machine is an X9100 (core 2 mobile) running at 3.5ghz with an HD7770M (hacked together Acer 7738G) and compared to my 3740qm with 780M (16F3) it's night and day.

Has anybody else noticed that every once and a while the ethernet port just stops working? I've got vmware workstation 9 running some vm's, and they run constantly. Every other day or so I'll come back to notice the VM's (and the box itself) can't access the network. I've reinstalled the killer drivers with the most recent version, but it doesn't seem to permanently fix the issue. My workaround has been to disable/enable the device (which seems to bring it right back without issue).

I'm wondering if anybody else has observed this behavior, and what (if any) additional troubleshooting steps I should take.

How much time happens before you notice such behavior? I use wireless 99% of the time so I haven't had this issue, and I rarely use the computer more than 36hrs in a row on.

It usually takes about 2 days of total online time. I haven't been trying to time it as it usually knocks itself offline while I'm sleeping.

    Signed WHQL drivers finally?

The NVIDIA panel showed me an update today, the 327.23 WHQL drivers. As usual, I tried to install them (almost knowing that "no compatible device would be found") but I was suprised when actually I have no problem at installing them!!!

The link for manual download is NVIDIA DRIVERS 327.23WHQL

I'm gonna try them and report any issue I have, but it seems that finally we can have newer drivers from 311.xx without messing with INF file!

    :D

    Hi guys :hi2:

I am a student from India and was interested in upgrading to a high performance system mostly for gaming and 3D modeling and analysis software. After weeks of reviewing and reading forums, I think I have narrowed it down to MSI GT60 - 2OD (been reading the owner's lounge forum) and Asus G750JX the major difference being the size and the GPU. I am highly inclined towards purchasing the MSI, however, there are certain issues that concern me and I would like to ask you about the same. I know that most of these questions have been sorted out. I read and saw that you guys have been extremely helpful to new people in the forum and hope to get my doubts resolved too

It is clear that MSI GT60, although, a beast, has some issues. I would like your opinions and suggestions regarding the same.

    1. I read that the machine requires some tweaking to control the temps. However, I live in India and the ambient temperatures here are already much higher, usually 30-35C, which implies that I will be using the machine in a hot environment and once it starts getting taxed, the temps will rise up quickly and might go higher. Although, yes, the turbo cooler mode is there, however, since it is a bit noisy, one cannot use it all the time and people have tried to find ways around it (ex. the pherein fan tool). What are your opinions about the temps in a region like India since the MSI does run a bit on the hotter side at times?

    2. I also read that there are some issues about high pitched noises and etc associated with the factory installed fan (NSTECH), however, that was about 2 months back. Has MSI brought about a change in the model of the fan being employed in GT60 now? If not, can I rely on the factory model itself or is there any other way to work around this?
Since I will be ordering this to one of my friends visiting the US in October and he will get it for me to India. Can something be done about it? May be I can order the spare piece from T&T since it seemed to solve the problem for a few of the owners out in the forum.

    3. Again, the factory thermal paste job was considered sloppy in most of the cases and it was recommended that one goes for the IC Diamond paste which GentechPC provides for free as I saw on their website. Although, I know that the guys there are experienced and will carry out the repaste job with utter most care, can it still lead to increased temps when the machine is loaded? Since, I have near to zero experience with repasting in laptops.

    4. One major issue is the serviceability. Though, MSI and Gentech PC will try to provide the best service possible, it happens so that sometimes, there are minor or major faults in the hardware. If I do get to know about these faults once the laptop gets to me in India, the servicing and exchange of parts would become a huge problem if I need to ship the entire laptop back. By this, I mean I want to be prepared for the worst. Again, an issue here is that MSI withdrew their business from India, what are your opinions about me going for an MSI machine?
Although it is possible that I might go for higher studies to the US/ Europe next year around September.
(Consider that I go through with the warranty registration process)

    5. The Killer network card is facing issues in that people are not able to work with bluetooth devices properly as it leads to system freezes and suddenly gets disconnected at times. If I decide to place my order for this machine, should I get it changed to the Intel Wireless AC 7260 since it doesn’t seem to cost too much?

I really need a fair answer on these before I can place my order. I am highly inclined to buying this machine; however, these questions and doubts above always prove to be a hindrance. I would be highly grateful if you can find the time to explain all this out to me. Again, one of my friends visiting the US in October will get this machine to me in India.

I currently work with a Dell Studio 1558 and this system would be a major upgrade [and I really need this upgrade].

Thank you so much for your time.

    HI everybody,

I'm considering getting the GT70 but,

Could someone confirm me if it's possible to turn off optimus? The reason I need this is to overclock the screen out of the standard 60hz.

I would like to bring it up to 90hz or even 96hz like I'm doing with a AUO B173HW01 V5 panel that I have right now.

Hope someone can clarify this as I don't have experience or know the GT70 systems that much.

No, you can't turn optimus off on the internal screen or the VGA, but the HDMI and DP are connected to the GPU so you can overclock external displays connected to those.

Hi, ill reply you best i can.

1- You don't need to control, most of the game does not requiere you doing anything special, with VSync activated even less. In some games, like Battlefield 3 or Crysis 3, it might get hotter, then you press a button in the laptop, and you order the fan to spin at 100%. It is noisy, buy while gaming at least for me, i don't hear it too much. I live in South America so my ambien temps are pretty much similar or worst than yours. I never ever got passed 80C with cooling boost activated.

2- Probably it was only one of the fan production batches, mine does is not noisy at all under idle. One thing about T&T fan is, it spin slower, and therefore airflow is also lower than nstech fans. In countries like your maybe is better to stick with nstech ones.

3- Factory thermal paste job is not that bad. The thermal paste used is the Arctic Cooling MX2 which is not bad at all, it is pretty good paste actually. Anyways pasting job, is very easy in this notebook, the removing parts are very accesible and easy to locate them.

4- In this case, probably i will get one with full warranty coverage in your country.

5- At the current state, (writing this) i have 0 problem with killer cads in this notebook.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. Might I ask where did you order your notebook from ?

At present, Asus G750 comes in two variants, one is the JX with 770M which is inferior to 780M and the other one is JH with the 780M. Although, there have not been many reviews with the JH model, I read that it is difficult or nearly impossible to service Asus laptops in comparison to MSI. Also, the JH with 780M is somewhere around $2500-2800 which exceeds my budget.

For now, within $2000, I think MSI GT60 2OD offers the best specs and I dont want to settle for less this time (referring to G750JX) although Asus has an okayish service quality in India.

The G750 Asus notebooks are designed not to be user serviceable as much as possible. The gfx cards are custom PCBs that don't fit in any other machines and the CPUs are soldered in.

@arnav792 - i too live in india & use the gt60 2od for 3d software (maya/zbrush/ps) & some games (dota2/firefall). The system is smooth & dsnt get hot, maybe becoz gentech did a great job with ic diamond & delivery. The tweaking part is basically for OC enthusiastics & MSI has a great setup for someone who likes to tweak their system. Though are you sure that MSI has withdrew their services from india completely coz i am really not sure about, besides if you want to buy it from US then remember msi offers 1yr international warranty which only starts after you complete their registration details(details at starting of forum)

ps - if you goin to buy msi gt60 then buy it with win7 unless you are comfortable with win8

Well that is what I read a month back or so (and evident from their websites), that they withdrew their business. That is why I was speculative about buying this notebook since if anything major goes wrong in the future even with the international warranty, we will be required to send the notebook back to the US since MSI does not provide any services in India. Even with RMA, we will need to ship the particular part back to the US. I would like to ask you further about your purchase and experience and etc ? How can I contact you personally ? Please do let me know as soon as possible.

    @kpablo:
Thanks again for the information and for helping me out.

    @Meaker:
Thanks, since I would certainly want to go for a notebook which is user serviceable.

    Hi Guys,

    BIOS question here:

I changed over to the Bigfoot BIOS from the UEFI version to install a Win 7 and then Win 8 clean install.

Now I want to change back to the UEFI version but cannot figure out how? Does anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks in advance
    Luto

PS: Got a new NEC PS271W 2400x1140 monitor running on the display port and it is great!

Hey guys, I've had a weird problem with the GPU in this laptop. So far Nvidia support has been completely stumped and even the great Ken Lee can't figure out what's wrong.

Every time I play a game and the GPU temperature goes over 60 degrees celsius, my laptop gets a BSoD with the error: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE nvkflt.sys and restarts. Sometimes it's VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR under the same circumstances. The curious thing is, whenever I turn on cooler boost 2, the GPU can go over 60 degrees and run perfectly fine. It's not ideal obviously to play games without a headphone in an airplane-like environment so I've requested an RMA for it. So far it seems like a faulty GPU that thinks it's running a lot hotter than it actually is.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be able to try before I send it back? So far I've tried different versions of the GPU drivers. I've tried un-installing other unrelated drivers to see if there was a conflict. I've also tried restoring the PC, updating all drivers, installed all Windows 8 updates.

Sorry for the late reply & yes, indeed its true that MSI has moved its indian operations to Taiwan management ( http://www.hardwarebbq.com/msi-indi...erations-handled-taiwan-rma-handled-digicare/) & RMA being still handled by Digicare but according to my research, should any problem arise in the laptops then we will be forced to send it to place of buying.ie USA which could be a problem as i dunno if Digicare will handle RMA for our laptops as they do RMA for mobo/gpu/etc. Personally, i am happy with my laptop & it runs great (thank god) through when i brought this laptop after waiting & reseaching for sometime in June, MSI India was operational without any indication that they had ceased operations in india from 31.3.2013 which means dealers & distributors like flipkart, etc might be aware of this yet did not alert the customers (rather unprofessional). So unless you have someone living in USA as US warranty is of 2 years, to whom you can ship/send the laptop, should any issues arise then only buy the laptop else go for Asus or Dell since their support seem operational. You can further contact me by PMing me or email me at [email protected]

Hey guys, I have really been enjoying the laptop so far and have a fairly minor and simple problem. While I do use a mouse whenever I can, I noticed something weird with the trackpad: the lower part of the trackpad doesn't register. I have gone through the Synaptics properties and couldn't find the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello All - It has been a while since i have been on the forums. I am looking at replacing my wifi card, but I am unsure where it might be. I am currently having issues with connecting to one of my routers, so I am assuming it is going to be one of the radios on the laptop or router is going out. Instead of replacing one to see what the problem might be, I am just going to upgrade to AC on both router side and laptop side.

I have the back casing off my laptop, but nothing is sticking out. On the Alienware, the Wi-fi card was actually a very easy change-out. I am hoping for the same here.

I will make a video on how to do it as soon as I know where it is at! I also need to make a new video.

I was under the impression it is under the top panel above keyboard that has to be removed to replace original RAM. I briefly attempted to pop it loose but stopped in fear or damaging the finish. Check the tear down thread for the gt70 that shows how to replace RAM, wifi card should be seen in those pics.

Good luck and keep us posted on results! I'd love to ditch the Killer crap.

Just to give everyone a heads up, these units only come with 2 antennas. So, I bought AC units to match. Below are the two units I bought.

Newegg.com - Buffalo AirStation Extreme AC 1200 Gigabit Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Router - WZR-1166DHP
    Newegg.com - Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC, dual-band, 2x2 Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth 4.0 Mini PCI Express combo Adapter - 867 Mbps+300Mbps - Internal - Wireless Adapters

This is going to be a test for me, and if all works out I might be upgrading again. I do not think I will ever need to install a third antenna though!

Also, I will be playing some BF4 tomorrow, I will let everyone know how it plays!

I actually have an Intel AC 7260 upgrade in my GT60 paired with an Asus AC router. I can get around 85mbps download speed (from a 100mbps subscription) from my router which is above 1 floor and through 1 wall.

This is actually awesome. I have a 200Mb/s connection and I usually download around 135 Mb/s and upload at 150Mb/s but only with stock Killer network and through 1 wall only.

Actually, after going through 2 walls, signal degrades exponentially to having close to 0 wifi signal for my router. I was eyeing the Asus AC router as I had read some nice reviews.

I've been battling an issue on my GT60 for sometime now and wanted to share my ram leak issue to see if anyone has the same issue with their gt60.

Love this laptop, but due to a ram leak that will cause the system to freeze up after 12-16 hours and i have to power it off. Normally I leave my system on downloading overnight etc now i have to reboot alot.

Things I have tried so far to get rid of my slow ram leak.
    • Disable / enable win8 virtual memory
    • Clean install
    • Stock recovery install.
    • Lastest Nvidia 780 dirves, betas, stables
    • Various intel gfx drivers
    • No overclocking stock voltages.

Programs I use are urotorrent and skype which are on or off. I have used the same versions on another computer that does not suffer any memory leaks. I think its one of the Gt60 drivers. So is anyone leaving their GT60 on for a few days or overnight to find it on but unresponsive or RAM fulling up ?? I need to get this sorted as my system is becoming annoying for downloading large files.

I looked up the router I bought which is called "ASUS Dual-Band Wireless Gigabit Router (RT-AC66U)" and the wireless card was the Intel AC 7260 upgrade offered by Gentech. The router and the laptop are about 7-8 meters apart if you go straight through. Hope that helps!

How much RAM do you have installed? Are they the same brand and clock speed?

Use Task Manager to determine the process that is hogging your memory.
Alternatively, you can use Process Explorer.

The stock 16GB that came with the system.

I have tried using resource manager to see what is using up all the memeory. But it seems no programs are showing up as using lots of ram. Its just ram gets used up slowly in the and there is no sign of what is doing it which makes me think its a driver.

Hmm, I often leave mine up for a couple days as well as it's my main work computer as well as my gaming PC. Some days I'll turn it on and off a few times or let it sleep when I travel or need it in the truck, but when at my home office I've had it running for days without a reboot or shutdown and haven't run into a memory leak that I've noticed. I remember you mentioning it a couple months back and saying it was video driver related.

I've used the 320.49's up until I finally upgraded to the 327's and now the new 331.40 for the BF4 beta, all of which have been stable and no signs of any memory leak. For example, I use HWiNFO64 a lot, especially when gaming, and have had it up all morning in the background; currently I'm using 2379MB of physical memory after running over night and using Office all morning.

This is from an MSI factory restore install a couple months back I did after installing the second 256GB mSATA drive. Oddly could never get a clean regular install stable (would regularly BSOD on random boots), but the factory image is completely stable. Using the MSI drivers at the time, with video (intel and NVidia) updated as released, daily checks for Windows Updates, but nothing much else. I keep Steam running, and Outlook is open during the day, and a couple of the default MSI apps are still running (Keyboard LED, SB Cinema, Intel RST, Killer network, Skydrive)

Still have to think it's something that is running on your PC, but no idea what. Is it even possible for a slow memory leak to be hardware related? I have no idea.

Good luck, I know that's got to be annoying.

My GT70 did the same - nothing was showing but memory got slowly filled up; it was an old version of Everest/AIDA leaking.

I have have redone the MSI factory reset. And think I might have narrowed it down to either Killer wireless manager Or skype or nvidia / intel gfx driver when using external monitors :( Since its taking about 16 hours to fill up my ram its hard to spot at first. Very annoying!!!

I'd also run memtest and see how it goes.

I have left my computer on for a couple of days but haven't noticed a memory leak. I will check it out now, as I haven't used my laptop in a while.

The AC router is here and the connection is currently the same. The wifi card is not scheduled to be here until Monday. I am disappointed in that...

Battlefield 4 plays perfectly though! It does require the new beta drivers.

Since I was not a premium user or whatever that is, I get to try it until... today? haha :) I have heard good impressions from many users so I am not worried.

As for yoru wifi card, damm it sucks when you plan to receive and upgrade and turns out part of it arrives later :(

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the mail box and found a big box from Newegg! In the box was only one item, a mini wifi pcie card. Such a large box for a small component. I did pop the new wifi card in and I made a video of it, link will be below. So far, I am seeing a huge difference. I am never in the same room as the router. Currently, I am one-floor above the router and I have full signal running at 866M. Huge speed boost when accessing my files on a local NAS. I am transferring large files at 50MBps, which is the same I am getting when connected through my 1g Ethernet cables. As for BF4, I have noticed a 8ms drop in latency across most serves. To Chicago I see under 20ms, to Atlanta and New York I am seeing 14ms, to DC I am seeing 4ms. This is pretty nice for snipers like myself!

Please guys help me. I decided to update the bios for my msi gt60 2OD gamer notebook. Downloaded the original AHCI bios file from msi global notebook site link MSI Global GT60 2OD

I did download the file w8_E16F4IMS.50E.zip AHCI Bios then flashed the bios file using the flash utility afuwinx64.exe provided in the folder. I typed at the DOS command window inside windows 8 x64 the command afuwinx64.exe E16F4IMS50E after that the fans of notebook made noise and at the DOS window showed OK DONE for all steps of flashing. Then i shut down windows 8. Power the notebook hit del enter the New flashed bios hit f9 for optimal settings then save changes and restart. After the restart I got permanent black screen, nothing works. Help me recover my bios and make my notebook work again. How can I reflash or do this blind flash procedure i heard about at the site. Please guide me I need my notebook back. I have already tried clear cmos disconecting the cable near fan. Did nkt work. I READ IN FORUNS there is an option to peform a BLIND FLASH renaming the bios to AMIBOOT.ROM and holding some keys during the notebook black screen. Is this possible? What keys should I press and how should I rename the bios files? Please guys help me.

I am trying to dual boot linux with the pre-installed win 8 but most diastro fail to boot properly when uefi is active while running ok with legacy mode. Did anyone face any issue like this & provide solutions for it, especially regarding Ubuntu.thanx

I've always had problems with linux and UEFI on all machines. I think legacy is your best bet.

    xMAR99 is right.
This is all about compatibility because most of UEFI environment was tested around Windows OS therefore your result varies.

Hmm, i remember a method where one cud install via legacy mode & dualboot it with win 8 uefi by using ubuntu uefi repair but my only concern is that i only have recovery disks, so if i try that method theres a chance that i cud mess up the uefi bootloader. So can i use the recovery disks for a clean install or just recovery purposes only or just wait for linux dev to resolve the shim & uefi key issues as redhat/ubuntu use the same uefi keys as Microsoft
