Well I solved it. I think.
Intel tech support helped me out a bit. I downloaded BOTH of the newest drivers. One for the WiFi, one for the Bluetooth. (currently driver version 17.x. something).
Next I deleted all Intel drivers for the 7620 listed under program files. I also removed the drivers from the device directly--via device manager. Then I restarted (it prompts you).
After restart, I installed both the new drivers, and restarted again. After the 2nd restart, I had Bluetooth functionality.
NOW PAY CLOSE ATTENTION. DO NOT...UNDER ANY CIRUMSTANCES...TURN OFF BLUETOOTH VIA THE MSI SYSTEM CONTROL MANAGER. I REPEAT. DO NOT--UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES--TURN OFF BLUETOOTH VIA MSI SYSTEM CONTROL MANAGER.
I made the unfortunate mistake of using the SCM the first time I installed the 7620, and I didn't realize that this was what had caused my entire issue. After installing the NEWER drivers, I again committed this fatal mistake. The SCM is NOT programmed to work with the 7620, and I doubt it will work with any other wireless card either. If you disable Bluetooth via the SCM, YOU CANNOT RE-ENABLE IT. It will not show up in "PC and devices", it will not show up in the system tray. You CANNOT bring it back. Clicking on the Bluetooth icon on SCM after it has been disabled DOES NOTHING. The only method to fix this is as I have posted above--you must COMPLETELY wipe the drivers and do a fresh install. After that, the SCM will see a "new" Bluetooth device, and it will be re-enabled.
Please feel free to share this everywhere. I don't know why MSI's SCM is a total troglodyte, but it is. Don't flipping use it if you can help it.

How's everyone doing? I've been away for a while
got married, got a lot of work, and stuff hahaha.
I am considering a mod for the laptop, and adding a second fan to the existing machine using the 2.5 inch bay. I just need time now.adiyer likes this. -
Keep us posted on your mod, my GT60 is still running great, no issues, but been distracted lately with the new GS60... -
entire laptop cannot turn on , even plug in adapter and battery ....
send to MSI services center , technician told me : voltage exceeds the limit causing the VGA card burns out and motherboard damaged .....
although my warranty sticker spoil it , MSI still acts as the laptop under the warranty ....
further explanation ..... MSI mass production problem .....zzz -
Thank you hahaEverything is going fine so far, but yeah I was kept away for some months
and sadly most of it was due to work.
My GT60 is still like new and in mint condition, no issues whatsoever and still running nicelyI just feel like trying a new mod and see how it works out. I will make a new vent and all. The goal is to keep both the GPU and CPU very cool while very overclocked
I doubt I will have much trouble, considering I always game with +135/+350 and I game at 80s temps, which is nice.
As for the new laptops and 800m series, I am glad about the existance of the GS60 as well as the new approach with varying prices and all. Maybe I can lure some friends into buying a new MSI haha.be77solo likes this. -

Lol, well I think 20nm maxwell could be REALLY exciting for that sort of form factor.

The cooling system for the GT60 and the GT70 are exactly the same correct? Same 12V fan, same heatsinks?
I'd probably rather get a GT60 down the road instead of a GT70, more portable. Though no VGA port and 1 less USB -
Same cooling system. -

The regular 1080p screened GT60 870m may not have VGA either.

At least 2pc owners can upgrade to the 3K screen later one when they want to.

VGA? what is this? 1995?

Hello. I want to update GT60 2OD-432XPL with 8 GB stock ram to 12 or 16. Any suggestion about compatibility?

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Match to your current type in speed and latency.
-
Removing sticker doesn't void your warranty unless you damage something inside yourself. You should send it back to MSI for a repair.

How many GT60 780m users have flashed their vbios to the unlocked slv7 version? Are there any issues with running it? Can I continue to run normal nvidia driver releases? I am thinking about flashing it to unlock my 780m full potential. I have a bootable usb, and feel comfortable with the DOS flash, but just want to make sure there isn't anything else I need to do if I proceed with the flash. Thanks.
-
Well, X plane 10 and IL2 1946 both use OpenGL and don't run on the modified vbios... -

As far as I can tell, the SCM is just using Windows Management Interface to request the bluetooth be turned off. It should be generic. I'm not sure why yours got all hung up like that. Did the bluetooth option disappear from the PC Settings application? The other thing that is confusing me is that you installed a driver for the 7260 Wifi card and a separate driver for the bluetooth? I can't find a bluetooth driver for this card. I only installed the one Intel driver... 17.0.0.34. I just went to the Intel site with Internet Explore and let the ActiveX control do an inspection and driver search. It only offered the one driver. The bluetooth item says "Microsoft" on it. It uses Microsoft Bluetooth driver 6.3.9600.16523. Is there a separate driver for the bluetooth part of the card? Maybe I'm not running that.
EDIT: Do you have "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth® technology for Windows 8" installed? Perhaps that is incompatible with SCM since it kind of does the same thing. Perhaps the SCM and Intel Proset software fight for WMI control? I don't have that package installed. I just use the driver for the card. This package is for managment and doesn't contain the driver as far as I know. I could totally see it screwing with other hardware management apps on a machine.
EDIT #2 OK. I was stupid enough to go testing all this stuff and was able to recreate inperfectdarkness's problem. It is the Intel PROSet driver. The one that says it has Bluetooth in it. That thing screws everything up. Before installing that, I would go to the Intel website with Internet Explorer and let it to a Driver detection function using an ActiveX control. It detected that I needed 17.0.0.34 which it installed. Everything worked great. When I install this PROSet software over the top of that, it completely broke Bluetooth. The bluetooth device shows up as an unknown USB device. I did a system restore to an earlier date which did nothing to solve the problem. Still unknown device. All symptoms matched perfectly with inperfectdarkness description. You can't turn it back on in SCM and it doesn't show up in Windows 8 settings or device manager. I began googling for the answer and it turns out some people with the Intel NUC computers have the same issue. They resolved it by removing the card or SSD from their little tiny desktops and reinstalling them. All of the sudden they had bluetooth back with no more changes necessary. Well obviously I don't want to tear the computer down just to take the card out and stick it back in. I powered down, pulled my USB mouse dongle, unplugged from the power supply, and removed the battery. I then held down the power button for about thirty seconds hoping this would drain off any residual power. I plugged everything back in and booted up. The bluetooth was working again. It appears that the current PROSet driver does something funky to the card and screws up the bluetooth function.
TL;DR
So to be clear, when you go to the Intel site Intel® Driver Update Utility for wireless networking with a web browser that supports java or ActiveX, it will autodetect that you need driver 17.0.0.34. If you don't have that, it will download it to you. The file it downloads is Wireless_17.0.0_De164.exe which works great! If you just browse to the Intel site and download it yourself, you are told to download BT_17.0.1401.03_e64.exe which screws everything up and makes it function as described above. The wifi works but the bluetooth is hosed. The PROSet diagnostics and all that jazz you are supposed to get with the software doesn't even show up so it's a waste of time because it's going to break your bluetooth and not give you any extra wifi functionality. The fix is to remove that software if you installed it, pull the power and battery and reset your laptop. When you boot back up and install Wireless_17.0.0_De164.exe, everything will work fine including the Windows 8.1 Bluetooth toggle in the control panel and the SCM one in the MSI software. Stay away from that full blown PROSet/Bluetooth software package.xMAR99 likes this. -

I do have that installed in my programs menu. I don't really feel like fiddling with it any longer to try and ascertain what exactly the problem is. I'm plugged in 99.9% of the time, so I content leaving BT on all the time.

I didn't have to pull the card, just had to wipe the drivers. I didn't want to pull the card either, but that would have been the next step if the driver wipe didn't work.

Anyone know how to mod the INF to get the modded vbios to isntall? Or have a link to the lastest nvidia beta drivers with a modded INF? I tried to follow a youtube video and mod the drivers myself and think I may have messed it up because it won't work. I also disabled digital driver enforcement.

I love my notebook and am extremely happy with the screen
- does anyone happen to use the colormunki? I was wondering how much of a difference it will make over a stock screen color profile

And the problem with the USB 3.0 is back. None of my HDDs 3.0 are working... I'm starting to hate this laptop

Have you tried going through a powered hub? Try updating your bios.

Hello guys,
Long time no see
It's been around 6-7 months I haven't come back here. It's useless to tell y'all that I'm really happy with this GT60 2OD even if a year has past.
However, I'm wondering something : do you think it's worth it to upgrade to the GT60 2PE ? (basically the same beast but with the latest GTX 880m ?).
I'm hesitating between the "normal" (full hd) edition and the 3K one. One question : on the 3k edition, if I decide to play in full hd, will the image still be clear or it will be "blurry" because of the "non native" resolution ?
Thx a lot for your answers -
For the screen, when the 3K version first came out a few months back there was a user that posted some really good info on the screen; I don't have the link handy but a search of the MSI forum here should get ya there.
Welcome back!xMAR99 likes this. -

I waited an eternity to upgrade until the 261 debuted. Would do it again. My only complaint is 16:9 instead of 16:10.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'd take 16:9 IPS over 16:10 TN.
-

At this point, I'd settle for WQXGA or better 15" in just about any type of screen--as long as it didn't resemble a CRT immediately after pushing "degauss".
-

For what it's worth though, I tested extreme viewing angles on my 3k display. From top and sides there really isn't much distortion. Viewing angles are every bit as good as advertised. And since it's a gaming laptop...as long as my smartphone pics of my dog don't make it look like she has blue hair, I'm not going to sweat it.

One of the nice advantages of PLS over TN.

All current 15.6" models in the US are using PLS panels now I believe, 1080p and 3k both.
-

Even less reason NOT to just go with the 3k.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'd take a 4k or a 3200x1800 screen due to nice 1:1 scaling options, but the current 3k does not fit so well.

4k is great and all but you want a 1:1 for gaming because single GPU 4k is going to struggle on mobile for some time.

Hello guys. Should I buy Samsung 840 PRO or Plextor M5P (both 256 GB) to GT60?
-
I am planning a triple 480GB crucial M500 raid 0, and making a heatsing/fan on the current 2.5 bay1TB is more than enough to me and even more so in SSD speed goodness haha.

Ye but i have version with two 2,5' slots

I had my previous laptop also with dual 2.5 and had dual 512GB crucials hahah
I would go for the Samsung in your case, but I think you can't go wrong in general.
-
I've had my eye on the Samsung Evo series for a 2.5" replacement.... Pro series is great, I had one in my previous machine, but for the bigger sizes Evo is closer to my budget.
