I just read this review on newegg for the 627-218US saying that
"The material around the screen started buckling after a month, leading to it cracking at the corner!"
Got me a little bit worried and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
-
-
Had it for a month and half - no.

No really, it's been a great experience with it. I haven't tortured her that much as some might think... Just a little overclock here and there but always a few notches below the highest clocks it could possibly handle.
Also I use profiles so It only overclocks the video card when I play some of the games I play from time to time, like GTAIV and Crysis.
Cheers!

My goodness, I've had this GX620 for almost half a year now and don't have anything cracking or breaking apart, and it's even been through one car accident.

I really can't wait for mine to come
These few days I am waiting for this laptop where like weeks -
Any1 knows? If I install windows 7 as my main and only OS, will it be a headache going back to vista? (I have the backup dvds). I assume the only problems should be about drivers...
Added.
I tried to create new small partition to test it, but I can't, so if I do try W7, I have to install it as main OS. -
No problems here to.
Great little Lapy. -
my gt627 is comming in four days...
this thing has bluetooth built-in right?
what BT mouse are you guys using at the moment? -
Brue Toof is a definite.
No BT mouse for me at the moment. -
COuldn't find any BT mouse that is somewhat ergonomic. So have to use usb wireless.
BTW, it's teribble: gt627 has only 2 usb ports -
Three USB ports. Your E-Sata port also doubles as a USB port.
-
Is the dvd drive loud when there is a disk in there?
-
Hello,
can anyone confirm (or disprove) that it's not only the keyboard that's springy but also the palm rests? This is what I read in some reviews.
Thank you in advance for your reply. -

Anyone know what the best FREE anti-virus application?
thanks -
AVG is good from what I have heard
-
Nod32 is coming out with a new one, optimized for gaming. Or you can try free trial from them. I've used avast home free edition. No problem at all. Any geek computer inclined will tell you how good avast is, and it's free.
-
for media players... are you guys using VLC? or another media App? -
That is interesting. Can you give me a link to that. I searched but could not find anything. -
Did I mention that I tried Windows 7 on it? nvidea doesn't ahve the drivers for this graphic card. You have to use Vista's. Fps really drops.

Hi everyone,
I got my gt627 yesterday
My first empression was WOW :0. This thing looks much better in person than in the photos. Its build quality is great(who told that the palm rest bends?) and very sturdy. I like the brushed aluminium finish, much better than the plastic on the other laptops. The only conc I see in the build quality is the finger print magnet. If you hate the fingerprints on the surface of the laptop then this is not for you. I can live with this.
I did a fresh install with my vista x64 OS. The format took less than 20 minutes. That is pretty fast. Installed the drivers and my softwares. This guy did everything very fast. My only problem is that I am not able to download the drivers from MSI website. So the turbo and ECO buttons are not working right now. I think there is a problem in their website.
The hinges feels sturdy. The screen really pops and the brightness is not bad. The touchpad is large but the buttons are a bit stiff. I like the synaptic driver, many features. The keyboard is not as bad as I thought. Its key are soft. Unless you don't bang on the keyboard you won't have problem with the keyboard flex. And if you like clicking softly on the keys, you won't even notice the flex. Its layout needs to getting used to.
The speakers are lack bass but have loud sound. While playing counter strike source I have to keep the volume at 50%.
The touch sensor is very responsive. Just a slight touch.
I will try to post some pictures of the laptop afterwards and some comparison with my dad's macbook pro.
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks for everyone who have helped me to choose this laptop specially Rayanmx who responded to all my questions here.

Cool! I've seen all your questions about this laptop, and I'm glad now you have it! Goodlyck with it and have fun with it. Pictures and can you pm me step by step via pm how you installed your 64bit? From scratch? Oem vista64? Thx in advance

hmmm did you use the key under the msi notebook?? Or the key that came with your vista x64?
-
I was wondering what people think of the screens brightness on this laptop? From what I read in some places it isn't very even, with the brightness getting rather low towards the top of the screen.
Also how good is the cooling of the laptop? I'm interested in situations like browsing and word processing. I understand that it might get warmer during games (hopefully not too much). I have seen some people on this thread with over heating problems on the MSI and was wondering if this is a potential for the 627 as well.
Lastly would people say that the build quality on the 617 is good? What is the chanche of the aluminum case denting?
Thanks. -
Hi I am too interested in this notebook, jus wanted to ask whether there is anything particular that s annoying except the arrangement of the keys.
And does the notebook ship with 6cell or 9cell coz it ships with 6cell here, what is the battery backup of 6cell?
And since the notebook ships with 32bit OS so does 1gig of RAM go waste or used by Nvidia turbo cache?
Does OC not the turbo mode bt OCing the gfx card void warranty?
BTW what is the average cost of this notebook(non blue ray version) coz it costs $1650 here.
Thanks in advance. -
The key under the MSI notebook did not work for me. So I used the key that came with my vista x64
I am not sure about the screen brightness of this laptop since this is my first laptop. I have 2 laptops to compare with. My dad's macbook pro(2007) and my brother's dell inspiron 6400. The GT627 is a bit better than the inspiron 6400 when it comes to brightness. But the inspiron looks way more washout and have very less popping colours than the gt627. The screen brightness is enough for a well lit room. My living room is very bright. When I use my laptop I feel the brightness more than enough. I sometimes feel it brighter than what I need. The screen at maximum brightness is great. It does not seem washout.
When comparing it to the macbook pro, the gt627 does not even come close to the led screen of the macbook. I can say that the gt627 seem similar to the macbook when it is at 70%(not exact).
I am not sure if the screen is even or no. For my eyes it looks even. I told you I am no expert in this so I can't give you any answer.
Side not: My laptop is the 216US version which have the lower resolution screen.
The cooling of the laptop is very good. While browsing the palm rest is the same as my body temperature(I used the laptop for 24 hrs continuous). And I am living in a hot country. My room is not cold. We even use air conditioner these days.
While using the laptop on my lap I don't feel any heat. The underside of the laptop is cooler than my body temperature so no worries.
While typing this I checked my temperatures using "Hardware monitor" and noted the following:
Processor - 39C
GPU - 48C(constant)
HDD - 41C
While playing crysis for about 15 minutes the GPU temperature maxed at 74C, but it was mostly around 68-69C.(Using dox optimized 182.05 driver at quality)
I was playing crysis over my lap and using the touchpad. It was not uncomfortable at all. There is warm air coming from the right vent. The under of the laptop was little hotter than the body temperature. So nothing to worry.
I am amazed how this laptop managed to stay cool.
I think the overheating issues are due to overclocking or a problem with the laptop. Not sure though.
The build quality of this laptop is awesome. Faaar better than what I expected. It is a good as the my dad's macbook pro. No bend at all. I am trying to press hard on the palm rest to check if this thing bends but it does not. So nothing to worry about the build quality(except for the fingerprint magnet).
The touchpad keys are a bit stiff.
I really can't think of anything annoying with it other than these. I have used it for 24 hours so I am not sure. If I get something I will inform you.
This laptop is really good. I think I made the right choice.
The 216US version comes with a 6 cell battery. It costs around $1100.
The 218US(blueray) version comes with an 8 cell battery which costs around $1300.
Sorry but I did not understand what do you mean by battery backup.
I have no idea where the 1gig ram goes. Hope someone else help you in this.

Thanks a lot S.almajid that was very helpful, and preety much answered all my questions. I am also wondering have you used this outside yet? Is it usable in those conditions (direct sunlight) at all?
-
^^^^^^^
I haven't used a non-daylight readable display that was halfway decent outside, but will be taking mine out to the range sometime this afternoon for work.
I'll let you know. -
Thank you very much, look forward to your reply.

Ohh I had one more quick question, how loud does the laptop get under reasonable load? And how loud is it under normal usage?
-
Why is everybody so afraid of leaving fingerprints. Gonna do smth illegal?
-
-
Hmm so do you think its specifically this display or would the amount of light you had have the same effect on any notebook?
-
^^^^^
For lack of better words, it's just not a daylight readable display. Normally, we have different displays for taking out in the field, but most any laptop (that does not have a daylight readable) display is just not going to cut the mustard in daylight. -
So what laptop would you consider to have a daylight readable display?
Kind of a specific question but do you think it would be visible while inside a car. (While someone else is driving of course.) -
By battery backup I meant hw much time does it live on battery w/o Ac power.
Another thing, according to your use and love for this notebook, is it worth $1650? -
Side note: The AC adapter is very huge, the hugest I have seen for a laptop. Just check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8iMgynVUdU
$1650 for what version? Can you tell me the specs?
And I think it really depends on the prices of the other laptops in your country. In my country you can get toshiba f50 for about $1700. That toshiba is a cheap plastic thing and really huge. So if it was in my country I would prefer the gt627.
Why don't you buy from US.
Check out these:
$1099
$1199
They ship worldwide.
But you are going to miss local warranty if you buy from them.
Good luck
S.almajid -
Anyone know from where I can download the turbo and eco drivers?
The MSI website is not working for me. It is redirecting me to the main page. I really want the extra boost in performance for GTA4.
If someone have them in their harddisk, can you upload it to any website(other than rapidshare ;P)?
I would be thankful to him.
By the way, I am using vista X64. -
Another thing that I discovered was that RayanMX is getting abnormally high FPS.
Although he has resorted to OC the Card and the proccy but still there is a vst difference in his performance stats and others.
Confused -
The notebook in my country is essentially a GT627-218US bt without a Blue Ray.
P8600
