Today I took my gt627 with me to the car. The screen was readable. There was much reflection but the screen brightness could compensate to it(100% brightness).

I was playing World Of Goo with screen brightness at 60%. I could play with this brightness but it was not comfortable. The reflection was more than visible than what was in the screen.

I did not have my camera with me to take a photo of how the screen looks in my car. Next time I shall bring my camera and post a pic of how it looks.

I kept the battery on Balance, Played World Of Goo(2d Game) for about an hour and then opened Adobe Lightroom and was working with it for the rest of the time. The battery could stay for about and hour and 45 minutes.

I downloaded the Utility for Turbo and Eco and it worked fine on my X64 vista.

Now I have one problem. I wanted to post some photos of this machine, but my card reader is not working for me. I downloaded the driver from MSI website and it said that it installed successfully. When I insert my SD card I don't get a message that a removable device is connected. I don't see that my card in "Computer". Is it because of the Vista X64?

A help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    S.almajid

Thanks s.almajid, your answers have been really helpful, and I'm pretty much convinced that the GT627 is also the laptop for me. Thanks also for your answers.

    Look forward to your pictures.

Sorry guys I am going for GT725 for the simple reason that I dont travel much and the difference b/w GT627 and GT725 was jus $136 in India,so doesnt make sense.

Had it been $200-$300 I wud hv gone for GT627.

    But,
    Thanks to all
    Especially S.almajid

Thanks man. Finally I could get my card reader work.

I will post some pictures soon

Yes, this is the best bang for your buck (except id you can deal with cons I mentioned in the previous posts) ;)

I have read that the gt725 is better built and more sturdy. Yes, for the price difference I would also go for the gt725 if I was in your position.

Hope you will like it ;)

Here are some pics of this beast.

This is captured when I got it.

My WOW  impression when I received it
    [IMG]

As I told you this laptop is a finger print magnet. It hold the finger print very well. You can see how it looks like when it gets finger prints.

The finger print will make you take more care of the laptop. So it can be a plus also :p

You can see here the finger prints on the palm rest. I intentionally did not clean the notebook to make you know how it looks.

Ok now comes some comparisons with the dell inspiron 6400 (e1505).

Some pics to give you an idea on how thin this laptop is.

As I told you, the screen of the gt627 is better than the inspiron. It really pops out, more bright, the white looks whiter and does not appear washed out. I am really impressed with the screen of this laptop. Its brightness is very much enough for indoors(That is where I mainly use it).

The viewing angle of the laptop. Not very bad.

You can see that the horizontal viewing angle is good.

    The back of the laptop....

And finally the brushed aluminium finish

I will try to post some comparison pics with the macbook pro when I got time :)

    Hope you liked the pics.

i just got my GT627 last night

i wonder why they partitioned the drives separately to C: which says "OS install" (50 gb total) and D: which says "Data" (250 gb total)

is there anyway to delete the D: drive and combine the memory to C: drive?

    thanks

Here is the benchmark of GTA IV

    Statistics:

    Average FPS : 34.72
    CPU Usage: 98%
    System memory usage: 64%
    Video Memory Usage: 93%

    Graphic Settings:

    Video Mode: 1280x800(60Hz)
    Texture Quality: High
    Reflection Resolution:Very High
    Water Quality:Very High
    Shadow Quality:Very High
Render Quality: Medium (Cannot differentiate between medium and highest for 1280x800 resolution)
    View Distance: 32
    Detail Distance: 50

Driver: Dox optimized 182.05 at quality

I used turbo button(20% CPU overclock). Everything else untouched. No overclocking.

I did not expect such a high performance in GTA IV. So now I got the most hungry game to work fine at high settings on my laptop. Very happy now.

And also, my GPU temp never exceeded 75C till now.

Hi guys, I just got GT627 which is an open box item from newegg. It's almost new and perfect just with one dead pixel. Is there any way I can check out if there is any other defect? Basically I think the 350USD saving is worthy if it's the only defect. What do you think?

    @S.almajid
Does your lappy come with 1280X800 or 1680X1050?
Coz RayanMX posted benchmarks of GTA IV with 1680X1050 while his FPS fell when he lowered it to 1280X800.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not but I thought I would share this info with you guys.

If you run windows 7 on your machine, the audio drivers from the MSI site work but you cannot launch the sound utility. It complains that it is for Vista only. not the end of the world, but you aren't getting the full functionality.

The HD audio drivers for Vista on the www.realtek.com.tw work just fine though. Seems to be the same driver but the utility has been updated.

Just an FYI for the windows 7 users out there.

Thanks for your info. I am planning in trying windows 7 in the near future.

As for the sound utility, what benefits do you get from it?

I never used it. I thought it is useless so just disables it.

It is GS. I am sure about it.

It is misread as GT. It is because the software is not updated after the GS release.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and after reading through all of it was going to order the laptop this weekend :D

Just a quick question... I know that the control key is switched and I was wondering if anyone (preferably someone that plays FPS's) had any issues with being able to crouch or anything...

One of my main games is CS:S so I was wondering how easy it was to get used to.

    Thanks

hey guys, i know someone said that you can use the TV antenna in the back (left upper corner) using a mini pcie? but i mean how? there is the "plug" in the back already.. what cable should I use to make my MSI able to play TV, or is it not able to watch TV at all.. if it doesn't, then what's the point of that gold thing there?

Awesome, I just found out that MSI Germany also released the black/silver edition with dual core for 60 euros more than the regular version. It's called the GT627S ("S" standing for "Silber" (silver)). I'm not sure if this has the keyboard with the enlarged arrow keys.

Yeah, i don't understand the large price (250 euros) difference either. I can only assume that MSI bought up these quad core cpu's when the price was comparitively much higher. I can't think of any other reason.

The arrow keys have been enlarged and they made the insert key smaller and rearranged some other keys.

ok im looking into getting a UK model gt627

but its got a 16" WXGA screen, what resolution is that? and anygood for games?

also its got a T6400 2.00 ghz 800mhz processor which i know is . but can i have it constantly OC'ed to 2.4ghz and how would it compare to a P8600.

it does have a ati 4670 but it seems id be better off with a studio xps 16" with P8600, ati 3670 and a RGB LED screen

Hi I'm new here. I've just received my GT725-210UK today. All seems okay so far except the fan does seem to be on/audible all the time, not very loud but I can hear it from a few feet away in a fairly quiet (and fairly cool) room.

My old XPS M1710 seems quite a lot quieter when idling than my new GT725.

    Any thoughts on this please?

Download a temperature monitor for peace of mind.

With the temp monitor you could try running something computationally expensive. If the temp goes way up without the fan ramping up then something might be amiss.

    P.S. Wrong thread =)

Any one figured how to get the built-in mic to work?

I tried recording using vista's sound recorder but could not work for me. I could not hear anything.

Do I need to download a driver for this? If so, from where can I get it ?

    Thanks

the mic in msi G notebooks is very bad
you need to set the microphone boost to +20.0 dB
and set the Noise Suppression to ON
from "Realtek HD audio manager" in Control panel.
