Thanks, it is working now. It was kept at 10% and 0dB.
Yes the mic is very bad. Not a problem for me. I just wanted to check it lol . Want to make use of everything in this notebook![]()

do you think MSI will release a quad core version of the gt627 in the US? Seeing as though its out for both Germany and the UK. and will the current version have support for a quad core processor?
-
My bet is yes, but when?
-
Well I got my GT627 and I have to say it runs great, and looks great. I am very pleased with my purchase.
I was however wondering why 20GB of space is already taken up on the laptop. Is there anything I can get rid of to clear up some space? -
Windows is 20GB isnt it?

There's a topic on MSI forum about how to make your fan less noisy, by lubricating it. Have any1 tried anything like that? -
-

I'll try to post a picture. -

That's exactly where mine is...
-
I have the 1651 its pretty much the same design, I had mine for almost 2 months now and no cracks here.
-
BTW, did you huys, who have cracks, used that protective cheet for screen? -
Your right I dont carry it around at all, It sets on my desk, very good point you made though.
-
I just got my laptop on Friday... so I haven't carried it anywhere. And yes I do use the protective foam thing for the screen.
It's rather small though, so hopefully it won't spread. -
Okay, I plan on buying (218US version) this VERY soon. And I plan on installing Windows 7 once I get it, any downfall?
And is the keyboard that bad?
Oh, and is there anyway to adjust the down cloaking of the GPU/CPU when on battery? -
No the keyboard is not that bad. At least not for me. If it does bother you there is an easy way to fix it. It's posted on these forums.
There probably is a way to adjust this using software for GPU, and I'm sure its also possible for your CPU. However keep in mind that the downclocking happens for a reason, to conserve battery life. So if you up clock you will experience low battery life. In my opinion the system works great on battery for everything short of playing games, which you should be doing plugged in anyway. -
Thank you for your help.
If anyone has a detailed answer, it'll be great. As in Windows 7 decreasing FPS during gameplay compared to Vista or a program to successfully down cloak the GPU/CPU when on batteries.
If anyone has a link to the easy fix for the flimsy keyboard, it'll be good. I tried searching, and failed. -
-
Thank you, once again.
It seems that some people are not having this issue, could it be that the later model have relinquish this arbitrary flaw? -
I just got my GT627 on Friday, and I can tell you that it does indeed have some flex. However it will depend on the person if this is a problem or not. Personally I am not bothered by it much, but I might do the fix in the future.
As for Windows 7, from what I have read about game performance, it will be better for some games and worse for other games. Don't specifically know which games this applies for though. -
Damn, then I guess no changes have been made in the later model. ( if there is any. ) Oh well, I don't mind a bit of flexing on my keyboard as long as the quality is good, and I doubt I'll put tape to "fix" it.
I'll probably wait for the MSI GT628 model. -
Here is a list of games I've found that work. (This list is being added onto and games aren't necessarily limited to it.)
-Championship Manager 08
- Medieval Total War 2
- Crysis
- Left 4 Dead
- X-Blades
- Dead Space
- King's Bounty The Legend
- The Witcher Enhanced Edition
- Tomb Raider Underworld
- CS: Source (And other source mods)
-Half-Life 2 (All episodes
- GTA IV
- COD 4
- COD 5
- Prince of Persia
- Fallout 3
- Raindbow Six Vegas 2
- James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace
- F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Sins of a Solar Empire
- Need for Speed Undercover
- Mirror's Edge
- Starcraft
- Diablo II
- Assasin's creed
- Spore
- Burnout paradise
- Tom Clancy H.A.W.X
- World of Goo
- World In Conflict
- Star Wars: Empire at War
- Red alert 3
- Sacred 2
- Chaos league
- Fifa 09
- Fifa 08
Again a lot of other games probably work this is just a bunch of the ones I've found while looking through forums on the topic.
Hope it helps. -
You have Fallout 3 on there twice
And you mentioned BF2 dose not work but you have it on the list.
Thanks for the list though. -
W7: COD4 fps dropped a lot.
BTW Vista sp2 made the fps drop too. -
BF2 was mentioned later in the thread but I have found multiple people saying that it doesn't work.
I don't work early in the morning lol -
Oh cool, thanks for the list. I wasn't too afraid of the compatibility issue more so the reduced FPS on the games.
-
About the cracking, becarefull how hard the lid closes being it is magnetic it tends to slam closed, Just a point I thought I'd share..
-
Yeah, I heard about the cracking issue for some. I'll probably end up taking out the magnets or using the Reverse Anti-magnetic discharge Zwaher's method to weaken its strength.

Do all GT627 have the keyboard flex problem? or is it on a few unfortunate buyers?
I know there are mods to fix it, but is it that bad?
I don't really want to take my laptop apart after purchasing it so soon -
and the low quality speakers/headphone. -
I really forgot all these issues.
For me the keyboard is not that bad at all. If you type so much or if you bang on the keyboard then it may be a problem for you. As far as I know that all the gt627 has the flex. People don't report it as a problem here because it is not that bad or they may got used to it. I forgot about it. -
Just smth funny. I play ganes a lot on gt627, I use the usb keyboard to play, so screen is far and I don't get bothered by hot air. So, I put my glass with cold water in front of me. After like an hour - it's freeking warm. I'm like ? And then -oh....
-
If the keyboard was fixed, and the vent be on the left side, and a quiet decent hard disk, this laptop would be perfect.
I'll buy this laptop once the price goes down.
Also, how much of a difference is the 1GB DDR3 VRAM compared to the 512 version of the video card? -
anyway , msi makes cool laptops -
do you guys know when the price is going to go down? or where i can find coupons for MSI?
-
Hm, I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't count on the price going down. It's like walmart's generic brand. They don't spend money on advertising and promotions, but always have lower price...
But I would definitely count on new modifications. -
BTW the GT628 is basically a clone of the 627 with a better GPU but I wouldn't count on the price going down much soon, if any. -
it may seem that we will be getting a quad version of the gt627 pretty soon. germany, the uk, korea and singapore all have the quad version. so i guess we'll be seeing it soon in the US market.
-
Just tried playing "The Day the Earth Stood Still" BR and I receive this message in WinDVD8:
Your Blu-Ray Player requires an update in order to play this disc.
Any of you people have the same issue (maybe with a different DVD)? If so, where did you get the update from. It's not on MSI's support site.
Thanks in advance. -
From a prospective GT627/628 buyer...
Have any of you who own this MSI previously owned Sagers? I'm trying to come up with pros/cons with this machine v/s an 8662 (probably downgraded to the 9800m GTS, the gtx260 is kind-of overkill for what I need).
I know about performance, but I want to know about the intangibles and things that are harder to measure.
1. How do the screens compare (WSXGA) on each?
2. How does noise compare? It seems from what I read that the MSI is quieter
3. Same as #2, but with heat.
I know the MSI has excellent battery life for a gaming computer, and I also know that the Sager probably has better build quality. If anyone has owned both, I'd love to hear your input. -
Lol! For one and will be my last answer, sager np8662 only has one gpu and you cant pick from choices only gtx 260m. From the wy its build, from the screen to the components of this machine, there is no competition at all. Its hands down the king of 15.4's its a gamers dream machine. Its all i can say man. Even ask anybody.

I have been following this thread with great interest, as I am quite sure the GT627 is the right upgrade to my current M655. Yet, I have a few things in mind I would like to discuss with all of you.
The GT627 comes with PM45+ICH9-M chipset, right? I've read Intel's scecifications on-line and it seems that this chipset supports:
- any PENRYN CPU biult under the 45nm process; my question - does it mean even a quad-core QX9300, which to the best of my knowledge is the best mobile CPU out there?
- a DDR3 RAM = grand total of 8GB; MSI states 4GB DDR2 MAX for the GT627 and SAGER states 6.8GB DDR3 and both are for the same chipset; my question - has anyone tried to upgrade to DDR3?
- the space left for a graphics card is under the MXM3 standard; the GT627 comes with GF9800M GS (MXM3) and SAGER is offering a laptop with the same chipset, but with a GTX260M (again MXM3); my question - has anyone even enquired about the possibilities of a graphics upgrade on the GT627? here in the UK, contacting NVIDIA directly has not yelded any results...
I am asking all those questions, because I think the GT627 has the potential of extreme upgrades in the future, when its hardware becomes outdated. So, anyone who has either enquired about future upgrades, or has done some upgrading already, please, do reply.
Thanks to you all! -
Hey,
Ive had mine for about a week now... Love it.
I kinda like the *clicky* keyboard. It grew on me.
The numpad is nice, but I would prefer the mouse in the middle and keys equally spaced (no numpad).
I have a question about win7 x64:
Will the MSI OEM drivers work for the turbo/wifi/camera etc buttons? I dont want to give those up...
Also, to address the GPU issue:
Download the newest forceware (179.xx), and download mobility modder from driverheaven.net. Run it on the drivers, install from the new drivers.
Download rivatuner program (google it). Install, put it in the startprog's directory/msconfig
Get GPU Monitor gadget.
The GPU downclocks automatically, based upon what powerstate you have selected with the touch buttons. -
Hi,
I am new here, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here. Its because of this site, and this discussion actually, that I choose my GT628-218US. I got it about a month ago and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. I am running World in Conflict at the highest settings, Empire:Total War at the High settings without any issues at all.
I have to say out of all the laptops that I have purchased that this is the one that I researched the most, and it was this website, and discussion that actually tipped me over the edge. I was originally thinking of an alienware 15", but I kept on balking at the price with the features I wanted. So I searched the web looking at all the info I could about laptops with the features I wanted, and I found this website. From here I checked out newegg.com and did a double take at the features and the price point it was at.
I could ramble forever, so I will just close with a thank you to those who posted here with their insights. -

Wanted to ask about the accessories that comes bundled with the MSI GT627
i know there is a backpack included but is there any mouse ???(as ASUS gives logitech MX518 mouse with most of the gaming laptops) -
No, it does not come with a mouse.
I bought mine from amazon and I got only the backpack as the accessory. Don't know about other vendors. -
Here's a pic of my GT627 with the aftermarket UWXGA 1920X1200@60HZ
Sorry about the flash my first Digital Camera.Attached Files:

Damn, that's the sickest thing I ever seen. What p/n is that screen, Ill definitely be picking that up.
Have you noticed any drop in the screen brightness as a result?
Anyone know about touch key functionality in Win 7?
