+1 rep for the gpu pick. I always wanted to know if the 9800m gs had the extra (HE) tab. BTW, Have you consider under-volting the OC T9800? My T9900 OC @ 3.67ghz only needs 1.1V (probably could go even lower then that but I haven't tried).

218 burns dual layers of course, but I'm somewhat sure 216 can burn dual layers, too. It's common nowadays. But you should check with others.

    Hi everyone, new member/owner here!

I'm absolutely loving the 627-218, but the FN key is KILLING ME. Someone on newegg said the following...

My keyboard was solid and feels wonderful to type on, the Fn keys and Ctrl keys are swapped, which took some getting used to, but if it really bothers you there is a BIOS revision which swaps the function of the two keys.

Is this true? I've been looking EVERYWHERE but decided to try out a forum for an answer.

I've also read something about gluing the keys. Can anyone give me their fix??

I believe you can use the GX620 firmware update as one option. Look at post #8 on this page by TRF-Inferno: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=357448

Option 2: You can swap the keys by following this guide posted by rxdrdwzr: http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32711&d=1239082163.

Keep in mind I have not done this myself so make sure to do some of your own due diligence before attempting both. GL!

I am copying an old post for you I wrote.

I want the old C-State (disable) option in my bios and the 20% overclock function. Unfortunately the new bios flash does not allow these options anymore. You are stuck at 15-16% overlcock and C-State is no longer there. For anyone who needs the files MSI just emailed me the 2 previous bios versions.

    A1651IMS_10T - Has C-State and 15/20% overclock options
    http://rapidshare.de/files/47503249/...S_10T.rar.html

A1651IMS_10U - Does not have the options
    http://rapidshare.de/files/47503276/...S_10U.rar.html

By the way for those thinking about upgrading their processors and decide to get an ES or higher end processor and you keep experiencing random BSOD you might want to disable C1 or C-State in our bios because of the following reason - "Some people will experience random crashes and bsod's. If C1E is enabled: this is a result of the cpu voltage being lowered @ idle. In some cases the cpu will not run @ idle speeds on the lowered voltage. This will cause it to error and crash the system." - I forgot the forum I found this on so to whomever I am quoting thanks.

HP's USB Disk Storage Format Tool is your best friend. Choose the option to create a DOS Startup disk, and select 'Using System Files located at:'.

Download Windows 98 DOS System Files, unzip it to a folder, and direct the HP program to this folder. You can use a 32MB USB drive if you wish, and it's a good idea to have one around, for other uses.

You may notice that the drive has no files in it after the HP utility formats it, but it's supposed to be like that, so just extract all the MSI BIOS files in there, and you're good to go.

Anyone gotten their ESata to work? I popped out my usb 2.0 320 WD passport elite and put it into my esata coolmax enclosure the usb 2.0 works fine but the esata is not recognized do I need to reformat or change the jumper settings on the hd? I am using windows 7 x64 and really want to make use of the super speeds that come with esata.

Well I got the thermalTake Silver River Duo which can support either PATA or SATA 2.5''drives, it has a combo with mini usb and ESATA all I did was to select on the enclosure esata mode and plug in the power to the drive and connect the esata cable to the laptop then windows said it found new hardware thats all I did.

I got it to work the weird thing is I have to start my computer with the esata plugged in and I also have to have the usb 2.0 plugged in at the same time on my coolmax external enclosure. I transferred 60GB in less than 15 min w/ esata. I love it.

Hum... When I received my laptop, I burned the recovery disks and then I installed 7 on the partition (keeping the recovery partition intact, just in case of... we never know).

I just wanted to know, just to be sure : Can these disks be used to do a clean installation of the OS on my laptop? I mean, I don't need to have it already installed in order to "recover" it?

I just got my gt627 but havent had much time to play around with it. But there was a file on the desktop called "Click Me". So I did just that and a warning box opened saying it didn't recognize the application. I figured it could't be something bad since it was on the computer from the start, so I clicked it and... nothing happened. It's gone now, but I'm wondering if I did something terrible. Any idea what that was?

I just recently got my GT627, and I'm thinking of overclocking the GPU to near GTS speeds. I'm not at all experienced with overclocking a laptop, so I'm wondering how the overclock will affect my battery life? I don't intend to game on battery, I just wonder if overclocking will override the underclock settings when the GT627 is off power, because I'm sure if that happened my battery life would suffer.

It is probably something with your install. Something might have gotten corrupted. My friend would get BSOD when he upgraded his processor to and ES one but you could try this: install the bios below this will give you C1 state back. Reasoning is from one of my previous posts: If you keep experiencing random BSOD you might want to disable C1E or C-State in our bios because of the following reason - "Some people will experience random crashes and bsod's. If C1E is enabled: this is a result of the cpu voltage being lowered @ idle. In some cases the cpu will not run @ idle speeds on the lowered voltage. This will cause it to error and crash the system." - I forgot the forum I found this on so to whomever I am quoting thanks.

Now if that doesn't help, you could spend days trying to resolve the issues and make sense of the BSOD codes but if I were you I would install windows 7 x64 RC1 it is in my opinion twice the speed of windows vista x64 and is what vista should have been. Never had any problems it is great especially with our laptops. If your issue is not resolved then reinstall windows and use the following:

    A1651IMS_10T - Has C-State and 15/20% overclock options

For people that are asking, the MAXIMUM temperatures after after hours of gaming are 44.3 degrees with 35.8 average on the backside. highest temp was by the numeric area and lowest on the palm rests area.

on the top of the laptop, max temp was 35.9 degrees ant the average temp was 32.6. hottest part was above the exhaust and lowest again palm rests with both 28-29 degrees.

As for sound, idle you will hear 33.5dB, while playing dvd it will be 36dB and under full load it'll be 40dB w/o turbo and 43dB with turbo (higher fan speed)

Hey guys, I just bought the 216US version, and it's great except for the webcam. I've been trying to get it to work, but it keeps being recognized as a scanner. Anyone else having this issue? I'm going to install Vista Service Pack 2 to see if that fixes it. Any other potential solutions? Thanks!

Hey guys, I've been fooling around with Windows 7 on my GT627, and its time to go back to Vista :S

I was wondering if you knew where to go for information on restoring my GT627 to its original factory settings using the recovery partition... or just how to do it.

Not sure you can use recovery partition 2for that... You still got back up dvds? (did you make them?)

Why not stick with W7 anyways? I'm upgrading from rc1 to RTm now and noyt looking back to vista.

I got endless errors when trying to make them, so I figured I'd find a way around it later. haha. Oh well, I probably will stick with W7. Just found some of the drivers kinda screwy is all.

Well, I have to apologise, for saying W7 RTM works great. Not all drivers are ready yet. I got 4 unknown devices, huge CPU temps, I can "eject" hard drive like regular flash drive and no drivers for nvidea. I'll stick with RC1 for couple of weeks. When RC1 got out i had the same problems, but they got fixed in short time. So, I'm gonna wait a little using RC1.

    The babes
I don't think it's possible, just look at the size in specs.

Well I got the 7 RTM from technet Plus, I have already installed it all the drivers work from Vista just fine.
Also the SCM works to I can enable turbo.

If you guys want I can upload image to see that all the drivers are installed.

The only problem I have seems to be when I Turn on the Laptop with out AC
    adapter.
Win 7 will boot and then I get nothing on the screen, I know its working because I can hear the welcome tone and if I press turbo it lights up.
This only seems to happen I run WIN 7 on battery.

NB Intel Matrix Storage Management Drivers vista, and ENE CIR Drivers for vista.

For the video driver I got it from Nvidia website for mobile drivers.
The sound I got from Realtek's website.
The wireless and Lan where both installed by them self's. ;)

Thanks. Now all of my hardware is found.
The only problem I had is with latest Nvidea drivers, so I installed VGA driver from MSI.
But it still runs kind of hot. Hotter then RC1

You can also look into GT 628 that is coming out next month or so.

If you can't wait, there's also the MSI 1651 ID 2, which is the GT 628 barebone.

Both fares the new GTS160m. OC'ing the GT627 graphics card gets you near their 3Dmark06 scores, however.

Hey I'd like to know if someone else has the 246UK. I' really curious about the Turbo button in this version. I have readen the Q9000 goes from 2.0 to 2.1Ghz (wow) but I don't see any increase in CPU-Z when I press it. The bios says 2% overclock. Is it possible to modify this value? Also Everest reads the multiplier at 8.5x and 2.26Ghz.
BTW, what's the 3DMark06 cpu score with the 218US at 2.88Ghz?
    Thanks
