I just purchased a GT627-216US for 770.00 brand new. Seems like a bargain at that price...Only time will tell.

None of the GT627 models ship with an installed TV tuner. It was an optional item that could be purchased and installed.

Ok, has anyone here bought this addon or know what's it called. And also if I can buy it as an after market product and install myself?

What video card drivers are you guys using? I've gotten the BSOD, and I'm guessing it's because of the driver I'm using. I'm using the ForceWare 185.85 on Win 7 x64.

Hey, so... does anybody know of a remote control that can be used with the GT627? I'm assuming the CIR port is there for a reason, but I can't find any information on products that can be used with it. Does a Media Center Remote work, or are the other products out there?

I get my video drivers from here: http://laptopvideo2go.com/

The new format can be a little confusing, but the drivers are golden. Just find the latest driver that supports your hardware; it will have the driver and a modded INF for download... unzip the driver and replace the INF with the modded INF before installing the driver.

I am going clean install Windows 7 - 64-bit on my GT627 (quad-core version). I probably split the 300GB hard-drive in two partitions. I use the computer for multi-purposes e.g. work (word, excel, matlab), photography (raw conversion and photo-shopping), networking (internet, email), music and gaming (company of heroes, etc). Perhaps someone could enlighten me a bit what is the best way to set-up the partitions. Do I put all the applications including the games on one drive or keep one partition for Windows 7 and put applications and all my data on the other? And how big should I the partition make?

Partitions slow down the computer. More or less. Consider using 2 users instead.

Oh, you just want to store stuff separately. UNless you reinstall OS often I don't see a point. It creates more headache. And you will still have to reinstall the games, when you reinstall OS. And for data, Just keep all files in My Documents, Music etc. And then copy them. As for Email it depends on your client, but it's usually easy to import and export stuff. If you use FF it's easy to backup and restore bookmarks, history with Xmarks.

I partition half and half. After that go to your document folders and change the default save location to the D: drive. This is how I have my set up not judging if its better or not :) Also when instaling programs remember that usually you will have to do a custom install and change the drive path from C: to D: hope this helps

    Hello everyone,
First of of all I want to say that I am from Germany. I am sorry for any language mistakes.
I have my gt627-8647VHP since april and i am really happy with it. But since I installed Win 7 64bit I got one big issue.
Everytime I make a Benchmark Test the Points I get are better in Normal Mode then in Turbo Mode. For example with Cinebench R10 (Multiple CPU Render Test) I get 5600 Points in Normal mode and only 2600 in Turbo Mode. The same with 3DMark06. Over 8000 Points in Normal Mode but only 4500 in Turbo Mode.
This is what HWiNFO32 shows me in normal Mode:
    and in Turbo-Mode:

i think it looks like it should, right? But why i am getting less fps and points in turbo mode?
Any suggestions? Any help would be great! Please ask if you need more Informations.

    Thanks in advance...
    Christof

Thank you catacylsm for your reply. I checked the possable GPU overheat. I run the Cinebench Test again with GPU-Z and HWiNFO32 in the Background.

Everytime the GPU-Temperatur steps over 85°C the CPU-Speed is limited to 925MHz(Turbo-Mode). And when the GPU gets under 80°C, the CPU-Speed gets normal speed. So it is not a problem with the Turbo-Mode itself. I figured out that the CPU is also limited in normal Mode. Only the GPU climbs faster to 85°C in Turbo-Mode.

The Question is now: What can I do against the GPU overheat?

Im having issues with my gt627 wireless adapter (Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100).

    1) The device manager recognizes it and says that the device is working properly.

    2) the MSI SCM (version: 2.209.1106.005.10) software and LED touch buttons work properly, and seem to acknowledge that im turning the wireless on/off.

    3) I cannot see/connect to any wireless networks, even with my wireless enabled in SCM.

    4) when i have windows diagnose the problem, it says "Wireless capabilities on this computer is turned off" This can be turned on by using a switch, which is usually found on the front side of the computer, or a function combination key.

    5) Ive tried reinstalling SCM with no success.

Is there another way to enable the wireless adapter besides using the touch buttons? / How do i remedy this?

I am running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2 (32 bit operating system)

Im new to the forums, let me know if you need more information....thanks to whoever can help!

The Fan just completely gave up and stopped working completely.

I sent the laptop to MSI Canada for rma, and i guess they fixed it and its on it way back to me now.

I think my laptop has three years warranty, is there any site i can punch the serial in to see if it is three years warranty? or maybe a number to call and ask?

    Thanks

Here you go http://us.msi.com/msi_user/rma_enduser.aspx RMA tracking
http://us.msi.com/msi_user/productlogin.aspx Once registered i think you will be able to see how much is left on ur warranty

But I live in Canada and it wont allow me to register the laptop through the US site, and the Canadian site doesn't have product registration for some reason. I can't track the RMA either which sucks

Hey guys, I'm kind of in a similar situation as Christ's. I'm a new user on this forum as I've been searching the net for some fix to this. Recently I decided to update my video card drivers on my MSI GT-627. My original drivers were the ones that came when I got the laptop, I remember they were 17x something. Anyways, when I updated them to the newest NVIDIA drivers on the official site, i noticed my laptop and gpu became much hotter and my games played worse, getting sluggish and laggy after 5-10 minutes of gaming. modern warfare 2 used to run well but with the updated drivers, its no good. anyways, i tried uninstalling and downgrading to other drivers but ive had no luck in finding the original drivers that msi put on the gt-627 when they shipped out. anyone know how to fix this problem or know which driver im looking for?

    thanks in advance!

The same thing happened to me when I upgraded the video driver from nvidia's site.
I think the problem is nvidia's powermizer is broken in those drivers,
I checked with gpuz and it would not clock to 2D clocks, always in high 3D clocks.
What I did was to get drivers from laptopvideo2go dot com to replace the ones from nvidia's.

I also flashed my laptop to the lastest bios and ec.
And also clean the fan my was very dirty could have been problem with heat.

Last thing I did was to replace my TIM from Artic silver 5 to GELID Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound works really good :D

From what i can tell people wen't and started to use nvidia 19* with mass heat gains, however reverting to 18* series drivers were much better.

    I just got a GT627, I have a few questions:

Is it possible to get eco to work with winxp pro (32bit)?
What are the normal GPU temps (idle/load, mine are 49C/81C)?
Could people also use PC wizard or HW monitor and tell me how much battery wear you have (my old tecra A9 battery wear was 50% for one and 83% for the other after less than a year of use)?

EDIT: BTW, turbo works with, my T7300 (800 mhz FSB).

I dont think the eco works on XP.
because XP use a different power schemes then vista or Seven.

I have tried different versions of SCM but no luck only the turbo works in XP.

If anyone was thinking of taking the thermal pad off the NB, don't, unless you're copper modding it. There is a gap.

I've noticed there is a black peice of plastic covering up some holes just above the GPU.

I'm thinking about removing it, good idea or bad?

I'll take a pic if needed, let me know.

Alt + insert , then Northbridge , Disable SPD then the timings and so on will appear.

If that doesn't work , then you will need a shiny new Bios :p

    Hello all,

I have a problem with my Eco/Turbo booster.
I have installed Windows 7, 86x on my laptop, since then my eco/turbo booster does not work anymore.

If I put my laptop on, before booting the BIOS I can still hit the "buttons" and give light. But after booting the BIOS I can't hit those buttons anymore. Do I have a problem with my Drivers or is it my BIOS which isn't configured properly?
If it is my driver, could someone give me an URL of the downloadable driver?

    Thanks in advance.
