Ebay is a good place to get CPUs:
Q9000 items - Get great deals on Computers Networking, Business Industrial items on eBay.com!
If the Quad works please post your results here, I might upgrade to one also.
You should also check for a Q9100, they are extreme and can be overclocked to 3ghz+ with throttlestop:

Just got reply from msi rma services, My laptop cant support q9000

Now, I just have to find out if my MB can support quad core processors! -

If anyone was wondering if a 280M would work in the MSI GT627, it might.
I flashed a 280M vBIOS onto my 3700M and I got into windows (but my card had a problem after installing the driver, so I would not suggest flashing a 280m vBIOS onto a 3700M). -

I have a GT627-218US anyone know how the 5.1 output works on this? I have Razer Barracuda 5.1 headphones that I cannot get to work as 5.1 at all on this. I can only get the laptop to recognize them as normal headphones... I've tried putting the plugs in all different orders that aren't "correct" as well as what should be correct according to the quick guide for the laptop. If anyone knows what order they need to be plugged in or how to get it to recognize them as 5.1 that would be great.
Related question, this has HDMI out would I be able to get an adapter to plug my headphones into the HDMI and use that output if I can't get the side outputs to recognize them as 5.1? -
niffcreature ex computer dyke
Hmm, I have stock vista drivers, I think you probably just have to enable a few more things in sound preferences?
HDMI no, not unless your headphones have a digital input other than USB. -
Any idea what? I've been all through it and have not been able to find any options for it. The quick configure option available for the speakers is also greyed out for headphones.
I forgot to include that I'm on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate not the stock Vista but the sound options and drivers I believe are all the same between Vista and 7 -
In devices & printers , right click the barracuda icon and click on sound settings and configure or try doing so in Realtek control panel.
-
Barracuda doesn't list as a device in devices... I also don't have a realtek control panel...
-
The 627 originally came with it .. so try it
Here's the link Realtek -
Thank you much ^^ Win 7 had the same drivers as the link but didn't include the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" that the link did.
New question: So for these to work I have to plug in Orange to Pink(the mic jack) and the jack closest to the USB is then unused and doesn't work as a microphone jack... Is there any way to have 5.1 output and use an external mic? -
Program that to work as a mic in. Maybe its possible in the Audio Manager's settings.
-
I'm not seeing any way to do that it seems to always be front speakers out regardless of what settings are used... the other jacks all automatically changed based on what was plugged into them but that one doesn't seem to ever change to anything else...

Hey Guys!
I have a GT627 and I'm having trouble with my turbo button...
I did MSI's auto update for the bios and after reading the thread, I tried the
A1651IMS_10T and A1651IMS_10P downgrades and neither seem to make the Turbo button work again.
The Eco button works great though....
Any ideas?
Thanks! -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Make sure you have the right EC version.
-
Sorry for being new, but what does EC stand for?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
EC = embedded controller. It needs the right firmware to make the turbo work.
Latest version attached to this post.Attached Files:

My Turbo button has never worked, not with the Q9000 nor the Q9200. Do you think is gonna work if I install that? In my BIOS the oc is set to 2%, so I guess is not gonna be any difference anyway. I managed to make it work editing that software called FSB something though.
Having TS is not a problem, but I'm just curious about it. -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
If you flash the latest bios and EC, you should be able to get that 2% turbo.
Can use setpll to change the amount of turbo (at startup), I can try to help you with this if you're interested. -
I updated the BIOS some time ago but decided to go back to the original one since it has more options, especially memory speed and timings, so I don't really like the idea...
Can the voltage be raised with the Turbo button as well? In that case, can the Turbo button basicaly replace TS?
Edit: I just rememberd I managed to use the Turbo once modifying some SetFSB values, following a guide you made, so I probably don't need to install that... -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
I have a bios which is version 1.12 (the one before this current 1.14 version), it has mem timing and frequency options and it's supports the turbo, I can upload it for you if you want to try it.
I would suggest using setpll instead of setfsb:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...clocking-methods-examples-84.html#post7153216
With setpll you can have the turbo % changed at startup, setfsb cant do that for you. setpll will be harder to setup though, worth it IMO.
To create your lut file for setpll, you need 2 screenshots from setfsb. One with stock registers, second with your modded values for the bigger turbo, if you upload that for me I can make the file for you. -
man you know everything about this laptop XD
Well, My GT627 is the UK version with quad core from default so I'm not sure if that BIOS is gonna work. Anyway, for now I prefer to assume that Turbo works with my current one, which is somerhing like 1.0S, otherwise I'll think about it.
Let me see if I've understood what PLL is. Even though it works in a different way than SetFSB, it does basically the same, so I can have PLL starting with windows so whenever I press the Turbo button, it wil overclock the cpu, press again, it goes back to default values, right? Does it increase the voltage as well? And what's more, can it change the multiplier?
Thanks for your help man -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
Well in that case I think for no I prefer to leave it with TS.... I have it in the P1 button so I just tap there, click in Turn On and it's working, no a big issue
Thanks a lot anyway!!
BTW what happened to your GT627? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
I'm guessing a combo of heat + motherboard flex broke a few solder joints. Screen started going pink/green. Fixed it several times with a soldering iron, since the last time I tried to fix it, notebook wouldn't post. Needs a new motherboard.
-
So...
What kind of hardware upgrades can I do?
Can I switch my 2.53Ghz P9500 for a Q9200 or something?
Possibly switch out the 9800m GS? Which cards work? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
You can upgrade the CPU to a quad, but only if you have the right motherboard.
See the two pics here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/wan...ports-core-2-duo-maybe-sli-3.html#post7155958
If you motherboard is missing some components near the CPU, I think the quad will not work. But if your motherboard isn't missing anything around the CPU socket, you might have no problems upgrading.
I put an FX 3700m in my GT627, runs really hot though. A 260m or 280m would be better. Best option would be the ATI 4850 (IMO). The 4850 requires a small heatsink mod to make it fit.
Just make sure you stick with MXM 2.1 type III/HE cards. -
I have motherboard Intel 82801IM (ICH9-M) Revision 07 on GT627-217CA. Q9200 work with that?
I can post picture inside, if that would help.
Where would I go about getting a FX3700m or 2-series? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
FX3700m can be had from ebay for around $150. The 280m or 260m will cost more, but they run cooler and overclock better.
A pic of the area around your CPU would help to be able to tell if the quad will work. -
