There are codes for curry's too, obs you need the code relevant to the retailer if you want them to apply it. They won't normally take an online discount code over the phone but if the website isnt acting normally they will do.

Curry's will accept the laptop for repair, they have the same 'tech guys' counter as pc world in many stores.

Has anyone had any trouble with installing the Win7 upgrade re: the "Intel PROSet/Wireless Wifi Software"? I can't install Win7 until this is removed.

I assume this is the wifi controller so don't want to immediately remove it - is there anyone that can help please? Thanks.

Uninstalling the proset software is as simple as add/remove programmes>remove etc, don't need to do anything special other than restart once removed prior to getting on with w7.

I completely understand you don't want to lose the wifi in case you need net access with w7. Fear not though, w7 will setup wifi driver and software no problems in 99% cases. If it did struggle and you need to retrieve any driver from the net your wired ethernet connection will still function without wifi driver.

personally when I do a fresh install of windows I always have a second computer on hand with a memory stick in case I need to dl any drivers and pass them over to new windows install.

NB you will probably find that once you remove proset w7 asks you to remove other stuff too. It's a pain but doesn't take long.

Deuce is a professional, trust him ;).

But yeah 7 loves to install drivers, so if you uninstall what you have, you could let the 7 defaults install, and then grab the wifi cards driver (or the one from msi website too i think!)

Any valid code you can find, they release new ones all the time. You need the best code you can find for either pc world, curry's or dixons and then head to the appropriate site to purchase. Obviously you may be limited by who actually has it in stock.

I thought you had already done this and got stuck with the website not working. If this happens again, then call them. Normally can all be done online though.

Quidco had a voucher for curry's back when they were selling them for £699, but now curry's appear to have sold out. They currenty list a refurb model for £799. Thats £150 more than ppl on here were buying brand new for a fortnight ago - but its still the best value gaming laptop you will find.

To be honest, given that stocks have pretty much run out and the 7555 is discontinued, I would just buy that and be happy. You really won't get any better, the 7555 has now been superceded by the 8555 which in real terms does not perform as well for gaming.

It's actually amazing that the 7555gx has increased in value.

Now I am thinking about to w8 two more weeks, if the price will move down.
But I am worried, that they could make it even more expensive, or they will sold out all the 7555 and there woun't be any more..

Big risk. There definately won't be anymore, they have finished 7555gx and started with 8555gx.

They are not making it more expensive, they are selling the refurbs for £200 less than the original price of £999. The only reason they were ever 699 new was to shift the old stock when the 8555gx was launched.

I would be amazed if you found any new or refurb in a fortnights time. You risk being reduced to ebay (tad risky) or simply not getting one.

I know its a pain that you missed the time when curry's were selling cheap - but you have to look at the alternatives and then realise that 799 is still great value for money. at lest if you buy it you know you have it I guess.

    good luck ;)

Here is link for the dual core http://www.vipergaming.co.uk/msi-gt725-253ghz-4gb-500gb-hd4850-blu-ray-gaming-notebook-p-1446.html
Have you got link to quad core ?

I bought the c2d P9500 version and upgraded to a quad recently. It's Taiwanese not Chinese :p the 1 from ur link isn't the bluray version and comes with a c2d P8600 and 320 HDD(although the title says otherwise) . MSI replaced the 725 with the GT729 , it has DDR3 and 1GB Vram . No i ain't got a link for the quad

Xardas26 - just incase its not clear, the advent 7555gx is a clone of the msi gt725. the chassis is identical and niether suffer any heat problems (well no more than any other performance laptop under certain circumstances).

The 7555gx just happened to come with the quad, whearas most gt725's were sold with c2d. In most instances it makes little difference, although increasingly software does benefit from quad core.

With the msi gt725 you get a better screen than the 7555gx, also most versions had blu-ray.

For what you care about it all comes down to the graphics card. The ati radeon 4850 in either the gt725 or 7555gx is what its all about. Thats why either laptop performs so bloody well. The newer 8555gx has a slower card and as such ain't worth the money imo.

I was just going through the thread today and saw that gumtree ad that was posted a couple of pages back about the advent 7555 and the nintendo wii.
    http://www.gumtree.com/london/88/51501488.html

Well that ad was posted by me and it's my laptop which I have only had for about 2 months.

If anyone is interested send me a PM and feel free to ask any questions or request any pics.

Also I apologise if you are not meant to advertise in this thread

List it here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18 you have more chance of selling than gumtree .. if not use eBay. good luck ;)

thanks for the support catacylsm and dead2th3world

yeah I got a load of people asking to buy the laptop from places like germany and america and then ship it to them, the first thing I ask them is why they are looking at the london gumtree listings if they're not even from this country. They never reply back :)

thanks for the info, I do want to post it in the NBR classifieds but I thought I would try gumtree first to see if there any people locally who would be interested so I could deliver the laptop personally and show to them that it's all in good order.

Would it be ok if I just copy and paste the gumtree text into a notebookreview thread?

I do have a ebay account with over 60 feedback but I've never sold anything on there before and wasn't sure about the listing charges for a £900 item.

Gumtree ain't that safe , i don't use it anymore .. too many fraudsters on there :D there's some guidelines to follow on NBR marketplace , like you need to take a pic of the item with your NBR username next to it etc .. anyway here's the form you need to fill http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=243274 . you can cut and paste the gumtree ad to fill in the additional comments on the form . I never sold anything on ebay either , i'm just a buyer :p but i reckon it should go pretty fast on there as it's a very good deal

thanks Dead2th3world you've been super helpful
yeah I have considered a desktop as well, but even if you have a heavy 15lb laptop it's still easier to move than a desktop + accessories.

reason for selling? I don't seem to use this laptop that much, everytime I do some work for school I find myself using my old laptop and taking that out everywhere and I only use this just for gaming. To me it seems like a waste for me to have this amazing laptop but not using it to it's full potential.

it's like having a new girlfriend, you like her but given the choice you would still choose your ex and sometimes you wonder why you broke up.

Also the extra money that I can get back from selling the laptop can really help me out.

but why not keep both, then you have two girlfriends, that sir is the combination for win ;)

as for the person asking about the gold connector, its a DVB-T connector, you can pick up the antenna with the connector or an adaptor to coax for about 6 pounds. or roughly $10. The laptop has an internal pigtail connector that runs from that connector to the 3rd pci-e slot next to the fan, i grabbed a capture card for 10 Pounds and that antenna also, ill give it a shot and report back, though i dont know what kinda stations im gonna get in iraq. =[

I'm old fashioned jack, I'm a one woman guy (well at least until the next one comes along).
As a 12 year old me would say 'girls are so pretty but so crazy'

It's weird how gadgets are like women. When you find a woman attractive your brain is put in the back seat and another part of your anatomy takes over

It's the same with tech, when you see something great you kinda stop thinking logically and imagine about how awesome it would be to use it, and once the honeymoon period is over you think 'well that was a stupid decision'
or maybe it's just me :)

but getting on to topic I hope I can sell this in a week or two. If I'm selling what kind of payment option is safe to use?
with gumtree I would have only sold for cash but on here should I accept more payment options? and I'm also considering posting the item as an option instead of only having in person delivery as it's not like every person in the UK is from London

Do you know the charges that ebay will hit me with if I have a buy it now auction with a make me an offer option?
Don't they take a percentage of your sale or something?

Sorry to kinda hijack the current discussion but I`m having an odd problem with Sins of a Solar Empire that I hope someone here may be able to shed a little light onto...

The game runs great mostly until you hit very large battles. Now the strange thing is that for some reason when playing this game, my GPU temp never seems to exceed 56 degrees which is strange as things like SupCom, Titan Quest and others can push it up to between 70-80 degrees.

I just find it strange that the gfx struggle a little in large battles but it doesnt seem to be stressing the GPU.

    Anyone have any ideas ?

I`m running Win 7 x64 if that has any bearing on things.

    Thanks in advance

Hmm obs not stressing the GPU at all then. Possibly its an AI issue stressing the CPU, or it could even be insufficient system ram available.

Launch task manager and see how much memory your system is consuming prior to launching the game. Be aware that out of the 4gb you have only 3gb is actually usable on a 32bit windows install. If you have a lot od nic nak running in the background you may be starving the game when it starts getting process heavy, irrespective of what the GPU is doing.

Glad it worked for ya , bare in mind that games doesn't use that much memory anyway whether on 32 or 64 ... and your temps are good .. to improves things just stick a cooler underneath

Hi Guys, I recently bought one of these fantastic MSI clones. Kudos to DSG (they are generally completely rubbish) for making this model.

Now here comes the begging request.... In my hast to re-MSI and de-Advent the machine I went and updated the BIOS and firmware to the latest on the MSI site. Now they both worked fine and I now have the MSI 2.1 SLIC table, which is handy. Unfortunately, the firmware updates remaps the touch panel back to the MSI defaults.

Does anyone have a copy of the Advent firmware, or could someone please use the dos tool to back there's up and post on here.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

Anyone know if its possible to upgrade the GPU on either the GT725 or 7555 with a different ATi card in the future if i needed/wanted to, with a better card.

    Cheers

It dont look to promising due to 3.0b MXM while the GT725 is 2.1 so I doubt any future cards will work. I could be wrong though.

Very hard to say until laptops with these newer cards are released to the public...

By which point we will all be less than a year away from wanting a new laptop anyway! Deny it now, but in 12 months you know u'll be looking...
