hey guys new to the forum.... stumbled on this thread when i was googling reviews for the 7555gx, shame i saw the laptop late as there are only refurbed or display models. Was going to buy when i saw it at local pc world, it was on sale at £500 but sold on the day i saw it :s

Just wanted to ask whether it would be worth purchasing even if it was a display model???

    cheeers

Just to confirm does it really have the same components as MSI? I've heard about lack of software for Advent, so can I use MSI will it work? Thanks again.

Nope :p MSI's is more like a premium machine , we have 1680x1050 and some 1900x1200 , bluray , turbo/eco touch sensor , proper support and so on. No deal breaker for some but still :p
Yeah , most of them should work as it's basically the same machine .. does your one comes with w7 or vista ?

Hi i have one of these Advent 7555 GX laptops, is anyone aware if the motherboard will accept a Q9100 or Q9200 cpu? i was looking at upgrading it.

I know that the chipset is intel GM45 and the intel website states compatibity with the above cpu's just not sure if the bios version could be an issue.

Hi , first of all welcome on board , yes it will support Q91 , Q92 & QX93.
Go for the Q92 or QX93 as upgrading from the stock Q90 to a Q91 is just pointless.

Download the driver from http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx and get this to mod it http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php .

Follow the instructions and ur good to go. Any questions feel free to ask.

PS: don't do it now as CCC 10.1 is around the corner ... by Friday hopefully
You welcome ;) . eBay is your best friend when it comes to these cpu's

I took Dead's advice got the Q9200 cpu and also bought a 500 7200rpm harddisk, i find that combined with the latest Radeon drivers crysis plays much smooth'er.

hi. I've tried to install new drivers for graphic card, but now catalyst(software for ATI) doesn't work any more and all games are running very slow even on low details. I've google it and there are many people with the same problem and from what I found out there is no clear solution. It doesn't matter if I am using latest or oldest drivers,or follow all the instructions found on the internet still cannot get fluent smooth play. I got vista 32bit but people with W7 have the same problem. any advice? just want to enjoy my new laptop. :(

hi. thanks for quick answer. I've tried catalyst: 8.1, 8.6, 9.8, also ATI tray tools from ray adams(guru3d.com). UAC was on (have to google it to know what is it- silly newbie  ) yes I followed the instructions propely. I will try with UAC off. Maybe upgrade to w7 will help. Thiss stuff is getting so much more complicated  where is my old pentium3 PC?

why you using ATI tray tools to update your driver ? This tool is for overclocking .. If you want to OC , just use the built in overdrive OR use GPUtool.

Now , go to http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx and get the appropriate driver for your machine , in which case is vista 32 for you.

Extract it BUT cancel the installation after extraction .
Download Mobility modder from http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php run it (with UAC off AND leave if OFF) and point it at the extracted folder to mod it.

when it's done , navigate the modded folder and run the .exe .. reboot and ur good to go.

PS: don't forget to UN-installed your previous driver before doing so and run driver sweeper if required ( you probably should ).

I was on vista 32 as well and never once d had this issue.

Thanks, done everything as described and it works!! :) - well sort off  . I mean catalyst is running now but I'm getting from average 18 FPS(high settings) up to whopping  19 (very high) so it's not silky smooth. Maybe some other advice? Sorry for all the annoying questions and thanks again for help.

Setting the notebook power to high performance although I very doubt it would help increase your framerates , turning AA and so on off will definitely helps ..
I have no idea how much Fps I get on crysis but it runs smoothly with no lags

Good question ! I'm pretty sure it's crysis though .. right Jake ?

In crysis (not even warhead).Have spent 8 hours today trying to sort it out, there must be something wrong with the driver. Why oh why I canno't just download it and install, to make it works propely. But well, some progress done with great help from Dead2th3world, will try tomorrow to fix it.

What res are you playing, Crysis in DX10 very high at high res is a system killer. Patch up and then use DX9 not DX10, High not very high and also the 64bit crysis exe. Should improve your fps while still looking good.
I couldnt run DX10, very high at high res and framerates with crossfire 4850ms let alone a single one!

Crysis is still THE most demanding game out due to the amount of stuff it renders and the lighting etc.

Sorry if I have missed it, but what resolution are you running crysis on? I had it on 1680x1050 with no aa, on very high, and I was only getting that.

The sad truth is not many laptops at all will play Crysis at a playable framerate on very high and a decent res.

EDIT: Sorry Alex, must have doubled up with you there.

    sorted:
some data from crysis tests first one for DX10:

    Run #1- DX10 1152x864 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 19.895
    and DX9
    Run #1- DX9 1152x864 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 38.155

So i cannot really play with DX 10 on? can i? A bit disappointing- i was looking forward to finally see DX 10 glory, ehhh By the way is there a big difference between those two?

So you're not playing at a massive res. Even still, those differences are huge.

It does look good in dx10 with all the sun-rays effects etc, but as you can see its very taxing.

@ Death, you using win7 yet?

As above, very high dx10 uses a lot of additional lighting and shader effects. Unfortunately because of this its very demanding, luckily a lot of the differences are subtle so you wont lose out big time or immediately notice.

Been using it since the RC , i'm on RTM pro at the mo. How about you ? still on vista ?

Farcry 2 lags badly in dx10 and crysis keeps on crashing .. the only game that works with dx10 for me is gears of war.

We'll all be enjoying DX11 soon enough... Word on the street is it will prove to be as bigger boost to PC gaming as 6 + 9 were when they were released.
