Nothing wrong with pulling the adds. However pulling the adds and then playing stupid. like you don't know what we are talking about. Like we forgot we were suppose to get upgrades. And we will be like " Oh ok I'll buy the GT83VR and throw my GT80S in the trash" that's insulting and none of us should pay one cent or whatever your currency is equil to one penny is at the verry least. Me I want it all now that I have been told what the lawyer told me on prencipal. So them or any other laptop corp will never try this again without actually having a plan and documents in place from all effected parties especially nVidia.

I am expecting MSI UK to follow up next week as they promised to get back to us within 3-4 weeks counting from September 1st. This lack of communication really does not help the company image.

I think the Swiss/German trade is the spirit MSI is going to try in all trade ins. I hope I'm wrong. As consumers we have rights, MSI is going to learn that soon.

Wonder what they offer to the owners of 29th Anniversary laptops with desktop 980?

I imagine it will be a better deal than for standard edition with 970/980m.

Who was acting stupid like they didn't know about the ad's? People that didn't know about the ad's? :)

Many people that work for a company don't have a clue about the products, except what they are told to know, and unless they are a consumer of the products - rare - they won't explore and learn on their own.

I don't think they were "acting" stupid, they just didn't know.

They might have been told to not talk about it as it would just lead to a fruitless waste of time, arguing over something they can't do anything about.

But I think they really just didn't know.

FYI - posted in the Questions for MSI reps thread:

    Mh...no SLI upgrade options...only a single 1070 in replace of a 980, probably...
Half of the market, all the SLI owners, are still out of the business...

    It's only the first offering.

Give them time, they still have the 200w 1080 and 180w 1070/1080 SLI kits to go.

    ARE YOU LISTENING MSI????? :D

Google will link to where it is on one of their websites where you can find all their offices. I couldn't find any link there from www.msi.com (interesting FYI their "legal" page is blank lol)

Even then, with a trade in there's less labor involved (supposedly) and eurocom often lists high prices and will discount if you complain (or so I've heard)

    BGA stands for...

    Bad
    Godawful
    Array

They really need to make the switch to the socketed CPUs. I honestly think they want their laptops to be out there shorter so people upgrade. More frequently...

Sorry man, but that's simply not true. My GT80 never lagged, and noone else complains about that.

It's Windows 10 firing crap off in the background at odd times, or it's some other app doing background work.

These kind of "bugs" always come down to software running unannounced and taking resources away at critical times from the UI and it causes snags / lag that is annoying.

You need to learn to debug these things for yourself, they are going to happen on any laptop or desktop with the same configuration and resources.

It's not a weak CPU, because the CPU isn't weak. :)

It's upgradeable, it just may not be cost effective or useful.

The performance of that 1070 is well below a desktop 1070, only 30% faster than a 980m in those tests, and only 9% faster than a laptop 980.

    Those numbers are really low.

It's most likely running that slow due to heat, not power, but it doesn't matter, it's an upgrade :D

Yes, but the "do it yourself" company Eurocom doesn't offer a "thermal replacement", as noted in their Youtube Video notes:

"This is a very easy upgrade. Once the new graphics card is installed the user simply needs to update the driver. Depending on your previous thermal solution you may need to purchase a new one. "

Hopefully now that they have this out there, they will goad Clevo into fabricating a replacement heat plate - heatpipes - and heat exchanger to use to make the 1070 run at full desktop performance.

And provide a tuned BIOS/vbios to extend performance to normal desktop 1070 levels.

Actually, they are saying you are too small ;)

It's not too big, it's just the right size.

Just tell them you'll look funny carrying around a whole desktop computer system with the same capability as your GT80S / GT83VR ;)

Maybe that's a good reason to trade-in for the GT73VR 1070 SLI instead of the GT83VR 1080 SLI, as the GT73VR will be smaller and easier to tote around?

Except for the 7lbs of PSU's, power cables, and power adapter ;)

I think the important point the video raises is that the myriad of excuses MSI came up with as to why upgrades were 'impossible' are a bunch of lies.

    Fraudulent
    abhorrent
    rapacious
    concocted
    egregious
    nonsense
    LIES

Seeing how poorly the 1070 is actually running in that laptop, it honestly proves MSI was telling the truth.

Would you really spend over $1k for a GPU that's throttling so heavily?

Since it's an MSI card, I would bet dollars to donuts the VBIOS is limited to 137W or something very very close judging by the performance ratio compared to its GTX 980 cousin with the exact same form factor in the GT80S 6QF. The increase in score can be explained entirely by the increased efficiency at the same power limit.

    Not at all.

That solution is a first attempt, just proving it can function in the existing hardware - the existing MXM socket and 980m heatplate / heatpipes / heat exchanger.

The next attempt will have a form and function designed heatplate / heatpipes / heat exchanger which will allow the 1070 to run at full desktop performance.

All they proved was that they put out over-priced half-assed solutions to the public, but we already knew that. :D o_O

Does that include the SLI GT73VR? If you can point me to some benchmarks that'd be helpful. If any card is going to be VBIOS power limited, that's going to be it.

A new owner / NBR member @Royalm posted 1070 SLI results in the GT83VR thread recently.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...nvidia-gtx-1080s.794897/page-48#post-10344948

He isn't an experienced benchmarker, so some allowances for this must be made. We may have scared him away, he did make some basic stock runs that he posted, but he hasn't been back since o_O

And, here's the first GT73VR 1070 SLI video review that has already been posted several times in various threads.

Skimmed through the video and don't see any benches or wattage numbers, so that doesn't really help much. But I'm referring specifically to the GT73VR version. Doesn't the GT83VR have a version with an auxillary power connector?

That video is the only reported GT73VR 1070 SLI info so far :)

    The 1070 SLI models come with 2 x 230w, both the GT73VR and GT83VR.

    The 1080 SLI GT83VR model comes with 2 x 330w.

All those configurations come with the 2x PSU duplexer to merge the output of the 2 PSU's into 1 cable that connects to the laptop.

The only laptop with built in 2 PSU connectors is the unreleased Acer 21x.

Refresh the page and look at my previous post, I added a lot more info since you went into reply.

I'm referring to a power connector on the MXM card. I recall seeing an MSI version somewhere that had one. Nonetheless, I just found the FS scores. The 137W 980s scored around 24K with a stock VBIOS, making this just about equal to the ~35% efficiency improvement we expect at a similar power limit.

The GT73VR 1070 SLI video has a teardown starting at 5:25.

The Eurocom result is only 9% faster than the 980 scores, so their 1070 isn't even running at MSI's stock 1070 performance.

@Royalm ran at stock speeds, so there is still more headroom in that MSI 1070 SLI laptop for even higher performance.

Eurocom's first 1070 upgrade using the stock 980m cooling isn't showing what can be done.

MSI's 1070 upgrade would be a lot better.

    MSI ARE YOU LISTENING???

Don't you have an Everki Titan? I can fit my P870DM3, two bricks, my Macbook, a tablet, and a ton of accessories in mine, no problem.

Lol it looks like he already scraped up the MSI lightup dragon logo on the back. I don't know what that thing is made of but it feels like exceptionately soft plastic. Considering the cost of the laptop, it should have some gorilla glass over it or something, Seems like the same plastic is used to cover the lighting strip above the gt80 keyboard... They need a brighter light under it with a way to diffuse it instead of clear plastic lol

The red strips flash a collision warning when a runaway Robot is careening toward your laptop, you know, like last time ;)

I'll just use it for gaming...
