lol at least its not like my xps 15z which when i looked at the stuff in device manager said it had a shock sensor to detect if it had drops lol... typical dell.hmscott likes this. -
The GX800 has the 1080 SLI, the GX700 has the 980 SLI... and both are the water-cooled Asus models.
If you want a slim take anywhere Asus single 1080, you want the G800VI:

What are you talking about anyway, you can't trade in your Robot crazed GT80S 989m SLI for Asus hardware, MSI hardware only
-
That's to protect Dell's warranty support, so they know if you exceeded the shock limits, and then they won't service the damage for free under the warranty.
It's only tangentially a Robot Collision Detector

First, I was talking about the GT83VR 1070 vs. the GT80S 980 scores. Second, assuming you are referring to this post, it sounds like you're the one who needs to do more homework before posting. That 980 is overclocked almost 350MHz over stock AND has the Prema VBIOS vs. a stock 1070 in a P775DM2. This is a stock 980 3DM11 run. This is EC's run. Despite the fact that something is very clearly wrong with their setup considering the absurdly low CPU score compared to what it should be for a stock 6700K, the graphics score is a solid 25% over the 980.hmscott likes this.

Why are you comparing non-1070 results, trying to cross corelate non-similar systems, with different settings, to try to connect back to other 1070 scores?
Just compare the Eurocom 1070 upgrade results against desktop 1070 and laptop 1070 results.Last edited: Sep 25, 2016 -
Yes, seriously, that's what Eurocom posted in their video:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Pascal upgrade in EUROCOM Sky X9 Desktop Laptop
Click on the Show More for the scores, @Mr. Fox posted about it here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...enix-has-arisen.781814/page-784#post-10348921
And, there is more discussion before/after in that thread.
The Graphics score improvement from the 980 was 7.7%, with a high of 9.6%, so I called generously called it 9%.
http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/9225544/fs/10189851
And, we already discussed it here, where have you been?

As in, are you:
- Seriously calling me out for comparing the 1070 to the 980 when 1) I did it originally because we don't have hard wattage numbers on the MSI 1070 MXM and this was the only way of estimating that and 2) I followed up with the 3DM11 comparisons in direct response to you comparing the 1070 to the 980?
- Seriously pointing me to the exact same comparison I linked you last post while pointing out that it was flawed? The scores in question are a 980 overclocked 350MHz running on dry ice compared with a stock 1070 that is running inside a Clevo P775DM2, not the P870DM. Then you ignored the actual stock 980 3DM11 score I posted which shows that even the flawed 1070 run Eurocom did is a 25% improvement.
-
Talk to @Mr. Fox he did the comparisons, complain to him about the A vs B fairness of the comparisons
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...enix-has-arisen.781814/page-784#post-10348921
And, yes, it would make sense to compare the Eurocom results against a 1070 desktop and 1070 laptop results. That's why I suggested you do that

Mr. Fox's comparison was to show how much better the 1070 is against a heavily OC'd 980.

Yes, exactly. You can compare anything to anything and it's all fair game. There is no reason to strive for fairness when you are pointing out differences. It is what it is. The numbers always speak for themselves. Eurocom used an MSI 1070 for the upgrade shown in that video. It fits the 980M heat sink and does not require an external power source. They plan to sell the MSI 1070 for P870DM-G owners looking to upgrade. They are also looking to develop a 1080 GPU for the same purpose. So, it's all good stuff for those that don't want to buy a new machine for something that should be as ordinary and uncomplicated as a GPU upgrade.

They atleast owe us a proper update to the situation. They need to tend the fire they started...hmscott likes this.

Just received an email from MSI UK with a form to fill out. Deadline - 31st of October.
Contents of the email:
Dear loyal gamers,
We have heard and read each and every one of your posts and are taking this issue very seriously with our engineering teams and external partners.
As everyone knows, the performance of the latest GeForce® GTX 1080/1070/1060 chips has jumped significantly over the last generation. This could not have been possible without redesigning the motherboard, modifying power outputs, thermals and other components in order to utilize the full performance of Pascal chips.
In order to keep our original promise of upgradeable GPUs, MSI will be offering a trade-up program for those who currently have GT72/GT80 UK models with GTX 800 and 900 series graphics inside, to the new GT72/GT83 with GTX 10-series packed with our latest gaming features.
For the owners of mentioned products, you can download and fill out the attached form.
Please send the form and the invoice/proof of purchase to me ([email protected]) before Oct. 31st 2016.
MSI will send the specifics of this trade-in program soon.
We appreciate all your feedback.

I got the same email asking for the information yet again with a new deadline. It would seem however that GT72 will be getting a trade down rather then a trade up with it looking more then likely a GT72VR being offered.

I have filled out the form and sent it back to MSI. In my email I have asked whether I will be offered a laptop with GTX1080 and what the timescales are. If we're lucky there will be a reply to my questions.
-
My response to 'that' email:
Hi,
I have read your email and have the following concerns I'd like addressing before I submit the PDF.
If MSI's advertised feature of the graphics cards being upgrade able, I would have chosen the best mobile card, now the GTX1080, at the time I purchased my GT72 it was the GTX980m. In your email you mention the upgrade path would be to the newer GT72 that is not compatible with the GTX1080, how will you resolve this?
Also, I purchased my GT72 for the ability to RAiD SSDs (I even bought 2 extra as model came only with 1) and for the mux switch as there are times when dedicated graphics are less important and extending battery is my primary concern. The newer GT72 has neither of these features and I'm not going to accept losing them for MSI's lack of being able to stay with its advertised upgrade able features.
This seems very much like a "bait and switch" manoeuvre.
Please address these issues forthwith so if appropriate I can complete and return the PDF as soon as possible.
Regards

Totally unacceptable. Just look my system in its current state.
The GT72VR 6RE in may case will be a total trade down, Not only that Windows 10 Pro was from a Windows 8.1 Pro key so thats tied down to the notebook, Space is needed as you can see i have a complex setup, I use MUX alot if i am away from the Wall socket i go straight to the Intel IGP to conserve battery. I bought the laptop on 4th Jan 2016 as my other was EOL'd and the fact of the MXM Upgrade part which i already knew could be done as i had a MS-16F2 that was MXM upgraded unofficially.Code:OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz Memory: 32 GB @ 1066 MHz - 8192 MB, DDR4-2133, SK Hynix HMA41GS6AFR8N-TF - 8192 MB, DDR4-2133, SK Hynix HMA41GS6AFR8N-TF - 8192 MB, DDR4-2133, SK Hynix HMA41GS6AFR8N-TF - 8192 MB, DDR4-2133, SK Hynix HMA41GS6AFR8N-TF Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M, 6144 MB VBIOS Version: 84.04.48.00.30 Drive: HDD, ST1000LM014-1EJ164, 931.51 GB (Backups + Hyper-VM Exports) Drive: SSD, SanDisk SD8SN8U1T001122, 953.87 GB (Games) Drive: SSD, NVMe SAMSUNG MZVPV256, 238.47 GB (OS) Drive: HDD, HGST HTS721010A9E630, 931.51 GB (Video Recording) Drive: SSD, SanDisk SD8SN8U1T001122, 953.87 GB (Data + Hyper-VM Native Boot)
Now if the MXM Card has changed everything on the mainboard etc aren't MSI forgetting a port that was on GT72/GT80? They have USB 3.1 Type C Thunderbolt 3 how about doing a External GPU dock where it has an MXM slot that can be upgraded, nope bet i that didn't even come into the conversation did it, instead you are after offering a chassis with a mainboard that is a complete and utter down-trade.
EuroCom right now is showing you at MSI up, guess that is the best place for Laptops as they didn't promise upgrade-able GPU to next gen but they are delivering it without having to replace the mainboard etc. -
Keeping up to date again; I too got the email from MSI UK and replied with relevant information.
I'm curious what they're going to do with my GT80 as it's one the first ones that flew out - at least in the UK I think as I have the version with 970m's in SLi, and I haven't seen many of those around. The LANs I've been to in the UK with it and seen other GT80s have all been 980m versions - so will be interesting to see what options I'm offered when it comes around.MiSJAH likes this. -
And a quick email to the Managing Director of MSI UK:
Hi Frank,
I am the owner of an MSI GT72 2QE-682UK.
I purchased the notebook after reading MSI's promise of upgrade able MXM graphics for this machine.
MSI representatives have stated this is not going to be possible and as an alternative a trade up program will be presented.
So far the information has been very limited, however it has been stated that the GT72 owners will be "upgraded" to the newer GT72 with GTX1070. This is not a trade up, the newer model does not contain a mux switch for swapping from dedicated graphics to onboard, and this is vary important to users away from the socket and using battery. Also, the newer GT72 does not allow for RAiDing SSD's, well my GT72 2QE does, it came with a single SSD, I then purchased 2 additional SSDs to use the SuperRaid feature.
If MXM were available as promised, I would have upgraded to the GTX1080 as it is the most powerful mobile graphics card out at present, as my existing model contains the GTX 980m, the most powerful mobile model at time of purchase.
If MSI are not able to produce a drop in MXM card for out existing notebook chassis, the "upgrade path" to allow this option.
At present a replacement MXM 1080 for the notebooks that do have them is ~£1,000, and the resale value of my GTX 980m is ~£500, there can be no justification of the upgrade cost to the user to exceed the difference, £5-600.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this and look forwards to you response.
Best regards,
Edit: I should proof read stuff before I send or post it. :/Last edited: Sep 26, 2016 -
I also have the GT80 with the 970m only mine is a "S" so your good. I will be expecting a GT83VR with a GTX1070 GPU and will except nothing less. Oh and I'm not paying MSI any more money!

I was thinking, so GT72 laptops owners with 980 Desktop, what MSI is planning to going to offer them ? nothing less than a GT73VR since GT72VR would be a full downgrade and unable to handle 1080
