my current Setup:
GT72S Dominator Pro G
75hz nvidia gsync
16GB RAM
128GB SSD + 1TB HDD
GTX980m
Core-i7 6700HQ
I had to sign a paper and sent them back.
Now I'm waiting to get the address to send my GT72S back.
The trade should be very fast - they said it's taking 1 to 2 weeks. -
So they are charging you the cost of an MXM 1080 for a 1070 notebook without you having option of selling your 980m to recoup some cost.
Shame on you MSI, for the obvious bait and switch!

Do you really get 4x512gb nvme ssd or is it mistake? That thing itself cost arm and a leg compared to 128gb you had.

I understand your Point.
But for me it's kinda a good deal.
I Play a lot of FPS games - so an 120hz Screen is much better then a 75hz.
I had 128gb ssd - now I get 512gb.. even the cpu is better..
The Point what i dislike what MSI is doing - is the lack of Information and how they treat their customers.
The GT73VR will be my last MSI product.
If here is someone from DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) and Need help - just PM me..
I know now who is the right Person @ MSI Germany. -
@nospecial
would like to PM you...but can't....newbie
would appreciate if you could PM me first. -

This all reminds me of the current BS Asus is putting everyone through with their $800 PG279Qs.. Most of them have seriously bad backlight bleed/pressure issues and white uniformity is really awful where half the screens are yellow. They never responded to the community and continue to this day to sell terrible BLB $800 panels.. You'd think for the cost you'd get a quality product, nope there are many $200 panels that put the uniformity to shame of the PG279Q.
So I feel your pain, because I own THREE PG279Qs and had to swap them about 6 times before I got a set I considered keepers.. -
So, MSI France replied the program starts now until 30th of November, I submitted my info (purshare proof + information form)
Let's wait for answers..
I have MSI GT72 2QD : Original Setup : 4720HQ / 8Gigs / 1Tb 7.2k / GTX 970M / FullHD IPS
What Fast ? 1 to 2 weeks without a main machine isnt fast, i expect max 2 working days for sending my new laptop ! They can boot it with USB drives and do a PRIME 95 + GPU Z stress test and go to sleep after sending me a new machine !hmscott likes this. -
-
My notebook costs 5k euro and have a terrible bleeding effect (black is yellow) that the customer service has not been able to resolve. dont speak of quality to me pls...that I want to cry if i think to it
-
I fully expect that i will get the upgrade BEFORE i have to send in my laptop. Place a payment hold on a credit card or whatever they have to do. But even a few days without my laptop is not acceptable.
-
These mofos are crazy, if they expect me to be without a laptop for 1 to 2 weeks. Cross shipping or they're taking the piss.
Truth is, the condition of my current GT72 is irrelevant to them offering me an upgrade path. Even if I take a hammer to this one, they owe me a GT73VR.
I'm not making any decision until CARL JONES hears back from him lawyer. I'd rather put my money toward becoming a partner in whatever action he recommends.
Today in, getting bent over and liking it....
I'm guessing this paper said something, about how the matter is settled, and you agree to not take any legal action against the company?hmscott likes this. -

This is what I got when I asked about the program.
our marketing team will release news in regards to this info in the beginning of October so please kindly check back on our website during that time -
This whole thing is really dragging. MSI needs to speed up. And 1-2 weeks wait for a replacement is unacceptable. We have next day delivery companies.
I will also expect my warranty to be extended for 15 months as this is what I have on my current laptop.

Please Sasuke, can you send me the contact for the upgrade program in France? I can't contact as I'm a newbie and MSI France doesn't respond my ticketshmscott likes this.

For the german trade-in program the order is as follows:
1. create a support ticket @ MSI Support Germany asking for promised MXM gpu upgrade
2. you will get an e-mail asking for notebook model, GPU version, serial number, e-mail adress, phone number and a picture of the bill (why? they already have all my information filled out in the ticket, it's officially registered with the bill @ MSI too..)
3. after that answer via e-mail, you will get - through telephone - an amount of what you have to pay in order to get a MSI GT72VR 6RE Dominator Pro (001785-SKU3)
4. you can ask for an GT73VR upgrade, you will get an offer for one (don't know exactly which model, but it's only one)
5. you can accept or decline both of the offers
6. if you accept one of the offers, your notebook will be shiped @ MSI Technical Support Poland (for Europe customers)
7. your notebook will be checked for technical state and state of use
- from here on nospecial maybe can explain this in detail further -
8. when everything is ok, you will have to pay the mentioned upgrade price
9. the new notebook will be shipped to you
10. be happy (or not - all GT72VR models in Europe actually seems to have an display panel issue: Link)
Notebooks that are traded in with bad state of use will be used as spare parts for repairs, notebooks in good condition will be selled as refurbished ones.
For me it looks like MSI will have a lot of (financial) advantages, while customers will pay a lot of money for a notebook downgrade (GT72VR) or MUCH more money in order to get an equivalent GT73VR.
WHERE IS THE ADVANTAGE FOR THE CUSTOMER??
I will not be part of the trade-in program, as i don't see why i should give MSI my money (~1300€ for above mentioned GT72VR) for a notebook downgrade, for not keeping their promises, bad communication, bad customer support and so on.
#edit#
Well, at least i have to mention that the german support is actually doing something, the german trade-in programm is running and alive. The MSI GT72/GT80 MXM Upgrade Kit article from ComputerBase is from Germany too. The USA trade-in programm announced from snallygaster on Aug 26, 2016, is still in "state of suspense". The german trade-in program was announced on Sep 12, 2016. Are the Germans the only ones who are DOING something..? It seems so.Last edited: Sep 29, 2016 -
There are no legal stuff on this trade in paper.
Only this text:

MiSJAH, thegreatsquare and hmscott like this. -
And if it has damage then what? For example I screwed my one 970m in gt80. But that wouldn't have stopped me from upgrading to gtx1070 since everything is working and laptop is in perfect condition.

it seems to me that every IPS gaming panel, today, have this or more serious problems...indeed I postponed the purchase to when the technology will be well developed.
Rather, since the Germans are ahead, the msi germany said something about the trade-in with those who have the desktop-980s?Last edited: Sep 29, 2016 -
Up to now there is no person asking for a trade-in with a GT72S and GTX 980 desktop version @ german MSI forums. Only GT72(S) with 970M/980M.
But I think that is irrelevant, because there are only two models between Germans can choose:
MSI GT72VR 6RE Dominator Pro (001785-SKU3)
MSI GT73VR 6RE Titan (0017A1-SKU7) - from what nospecial pointed out
Both with GTX 1070 8GB. So as a GT72S and GTX 980 desktop owner, you have to choose between these two models above i think.
My 75Hz IPS display panel (LG Philips LP173WF4-SPF1) is nearly perfect, no problems so far.hmscott likes this. -

Only two models both with a single 1070 ? Very poor, they should give us the possibility to choose even if paying more. Anyone tried asking for a trade-in with a gt80 titan (980 sli, 980m sli, 970m sli) ?

So what's the deal UK GT72s with the desktop 980 owners? Has anyone got an email from MSI UK? I emailed 4 weeks ago and had a reply then saying they'd have something ready in 3-4 weeks, nothing since then though. I have sent an email chasing it up, but the guy is out of office until the 4th October.

I don't know why any of us are jumping to MSI's commands. The simple fact is that we don't owe MSI "#2".
We should be suing MSI for the ~$1k that an upgradable laptop was going to save us instead.OnlySLI, sasuke256, MiSJAH and 1 other person like this. -
Still no answer from MSI, did it took a long time for you guys to get offers ?
edit : after filling the form and sending it back to MSI.
They should consider the machine working since it boots..Last edited: Sep 29, 2016hmscott likes this. -

Bingo! If I am signing anything, it's got to include that 2nd upgrade/trade-in consideration.
Otherwise the trade-in is not a suitable substitute for having 2 generations of GPU upgrades.Last edited: Sep 29, 2016MiSJAH likes this. -

What about the second upgrade to the second generation GTX11xx? we were promised 2 upgrades -
Nah, you can unsolder those suckers, but I recommend sending them in to MSI to have them do it
And, no there aren't any CPU upgrades, there are however humands on board macking miztak's -

Who's going clevo if this doesn't work out?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Already went Clevo after the battery drain fiasco. If you're looking for upgradeable machines I wouldn't depend on them either. Even though they're supposedly standardizing their new MXM format, who knows what the future holds once HBM2 comes into play?
-
Anythings possible, but for right now the P870DM3(DM2?) have too many QC / parts selection / design issues with cooling system - fans are turbine engine whiney, not cooling well, and as with everyone else the displays over the base IPS 60hz/75hz aren't panning out well.
The Asus, AW, Aorus, and the MSI GT73VR seem to be viable alternatives, but at this point there's wisdom in waiting for these new Pascal laptops to shake out their problems, and new optimized ones to release.
And, then there's the next generation Motherboard chipset first of the year.
But, then you are dealing with another round of shakeout with new motherboard production.
So, for now Clevo is a no go.Last edited: Sep 29, 2016 -
I will never accept a trade with a single-GPU notebook.
maybe in germany it worked because there was no request with SLI ... I sincerely hope so.
I would live it as a fu*k around by msi ... -

but it is certain that will not let you choose? I am not at all satisfied with this trade in program, my GT80 was designed to be an high end laptop and it was one of the best notebook in 2015, I'm never satisfied with a single 1070...and even with two, i only want the best. I will never buy another MSI notebook at this point.

A 980 sli is better than a 1070, switch between gt80s and a GT73 would really be a downgrade. This trade in program is a scam, i don't give MSI any other money, i already paid 3650 euro last year, now i want the upgrade that falls to me.Last edited: Sep 29, 2016zziplex, OnlySLI, hmscott and 1 other person like this.
