For those of us in the United States. Nothing has been announced. While still do not expect everyone to be happy with the options, At least give them the chance to offer the proposal before everyone gets into a frenzy. Because at this point we have seen nothing from MSI ( i could be mistaken) but the only info anyone has had has been second hand info about options given to people from other countries. Which could be the same options we get or our options could be totally different. No one knows .. yet..

Why is everybody with a GT80 assuming they're not upgrading to a GT83? Nobody with a GT80 has posted an offer yet.

Maybe the reason there only offering the 1070 upgrade or notebook swap is so they can say you can upgrade to the 1080 and that will be your second upgrade .
If they swap you a notebook with 1080 and the next gen gpu don't work then you won't get your 2nd generation upgrade.
I'm just thinking out loud.

They made the announcement that they are working on a plan. That should be enough to know that they are working on a solution. I would rather they take their time and come out with a well thought out plan that hopefully appeases most of their customers than instead rush into to something not planned and becomes a disaster. I do not think most people are going to be happy with the solutions they are going to offer to begin with (including myself). But for me I will either remain an MSI customer or not based on their response. Will they know I'm even gone ? Most likely not but i am not going to be dying anytime soon. People surely will be told my opinion on MSI and i will do my part to push every person i know away from ALL their products and they will also miss out on all my future purchases. Which is all stuff they have to figure out. Regardless of what anyone would like to believe they are still a business and as i said before there is a fine line between worrying about the bottom line and keeping customers happy. At a certain point MSI will give us the middle finger and say fight for it if they come to the conclusion that its better for them to do so.

Why would MSI expect us to pay more than the cost of an MXM upgrade to cover something they ****ed up?

So they want the laptop you're returning to be in good condition... so they can resell it refurbished. If it isn't in good condition.... you have to pay even more for the new laptop, because they are going to fix up the laptop, and resell it.
What a load of greed this is. They've found a way to turn it into even more money for themselves. We're doing them a favor, not in the slightest would they be helping us.

It says based on price paid and date, maybe he got it cheap and had it a while? Still waiting on mine. Anyone else from UK got theirs?
I dont really mind what they do with it afterwards, when i trade my stuff in at CEX or game i dont expect them to just sit on it and not sell it lol :/hmscott likes this. -
@MSI Natalie.

It's all ********. If MSI kept their advertised promise, the condition wouldn't matter and the cost would be the same and only differ between buying an MXM 1080 or 1070.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
A lot of you want the gtx 1080. Isn't that card $1000+ in mobile form factor? 2 of them would be $2000 minimum not including the heatsink.
A used 980m is worth what $400 Less fees.
$1500 seems like a fair value for 1080 SLI upgrade.
What happened to the lawyers? Is the case still going forward? -
UK price for a MXM 1080 is £1,000. 980m's are going for around £500. Simple math. MSI is taking the piss.

I got mine a few minutes ago - again my model's the GT80 with 970m SLi.

What they do with it isn't the issue, the fact that your price is dependent on the condition of the laptop is what's complete BS.
If they were selling me an MXM 1070, that worked in my GT72, the dents and dings in it from a few drops would be irrelevant, so they should be likewise irrelevant in the case of this trade in program.hmscott, OnlySLI, Talon and 1 other person like this. -
I just got mine through, £544 for 1070 upgrade. Because i have some scuffs i have asked about what will be knocked off the value. Will let you know what they say.hmscott likes this.
-
What model do you have?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalkhmscott likes this. -
Some scuffs are ok. If its badly damaged or missing bits, an ssd or ram or psu, she said those would affect trade in price but a fair amount not a silly amount depending on what it is. Not surprised tbh, again using CEX as an example, they pay different prices for different grades, for phones etc.
Model @MiSJAH - GT72 dominator g with 970m, so pretty happy at that as 1070 is supposed to be better than 97M in sli. Whats your model? -
GT72 with i7-4720 and GTX 980m. And your prices are better than mine.

Well i just got an E-mail from MSI UK with the trade offer(s) and what a blooming joke the trade is. They want the cost of an MXM Card (which i am willing to pay) but for half a laptop thats been gutted of all that made the GT72 so great. So i have now sent an e-mail back with some questions and a very very lengthly reply. It is clear that MSI hasn't listen to their customers that is for sure.

How can that be? What did you pay for it? Maybe ask them to check if the prices are right.

I got mine for £1,100. Bargain. And now I'm getting bent over for it.

Thats why our laptops are red and black baby. Red for the fire we have inside.
-
How odd, why wouldn't MSI include GT73VR variations as options for the trade-in as well??
There is a huge jump in value and price between the GT72 and GT83, and the GT72 has been gutted this generation, while the GT83 is huge and completely overpriced in it's upgrade/trade-in value.
I would ask for similar configured options for GT73's with prices closer to the GT72 trade-in costs.
Please keep us up to date on what they say, what you end up choosing, and how the transaction works itself through the process.

Wth? I paid 400 more and got a lesser graphic card :/ how was it so cheap? I tried to get all kinds of discounts when i got mine and nothing worked, not even quidco

OK guys I think it's time you hear about the meeting with my lawyer. My Lawyer is very interested in this case but he wants to know how many people want to do a class action lawsuit. I think it's time to get information outside of this forum so I'm going create email address so I can get an accurate count and keep things straight. I'll post it at the end, just send me a quick email if you want to be counted. I will be moving forward with the lawsuit no matter if it's just me or not. If you have questions, comments or ideas send it in, but first I need a count. I will share information there no BS please. I created a Gmail account just for this.

My response to Natalie's email:
Hi Natalie,
Thank you for your offer. I have taken some time to consider your email I would like you/MSI to answer the following questions:
1, Had the advertised promise of upgradable MXM been made available, the cost of upgrading would have been the same to all users for the GTX1070 at one price and the GTX1080 at another, no matter the condition of their existing notebook. Why has MSI created a scale of cost in their replacement to the advertised promised upgrade depending on the condition of the notebook?
2, The reduction in price of the replacement models that you are offering me is ~£650-700, where as the only exact model on ebay, the same as mine secondhand is listed at £1,299 (ebay.co.uk item number: 331928691301). Frankly this is an insult to a multiple time customer of MSI. Please justify why you are valuing my laptop at all, I am not selling my existing notebook to you, you are resolving not being able to fulfil your advertised promised upgradability?
3, If MSI had kept to their advertised promise of MXM upgradability, I could have purchased a GTX1080 for £833 - http://www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,388,0)ec - so with import tax and delivery £999.60 AND have kept my GTX980m to resell to recoup some of the cost (at present these are selling in the UK for £550 + import charges), so a cost to me of between £4-500. Please justify why MSI due their error in not keeping to their agreed and advertised promise of upgradable MXM graphics would consider charging more than £500?
4, As the end user in this situation, my existing hardware within my notebook is sufficient for my requirements, except I would like to upgrade the GPU, I have zero requirements for a newer CPU, RAM or PCIE SSD therefore can you justify that, if you must include them in the replacement offer, why you would expect me to contribute to the cost of them?
I look forwards to your answers.
Regards,
****I really do look forwards to the reply to this email****
It would appear that MSI want us the customers to pay for their screw up! -

I have had my GT72S Dragon Edition 4k for the last two months.
Current spec:
GT72S 6QF DRAGON G 29TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION 4K - i7-6820HK, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 8GB GTX 980 (desktop).
So... Here's what I got offered as a trade up (seriously, a trade up???):
Where is GT73VR with a 4k screen as an option?Code:GT83VR 6RF(Titan SLI)-028UK Skylake i7-6920HQ Dual nVidia Geforce GTX1080, 8GB GDDR5X DDR IV 64GB 512GB PCIE GEN3 NVMe SSD (256GB x2) 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm 18.4" FHD, Anti-Glare (1920*1080) IPS-Level £2,867 GT83VR 6RE(Titan SLI)-013UK Skylake i7-6820HK Dual nVidia Geforce GTX 1070, 8GB GDDR5 DDR IV 32GB 256GB PCIE GEN3 NVMe SSD (128GB x2) 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm 18.4" FHD, Anti-Glare (1920*1080) IPS-Level £1,565 GT83VR 6RF(Titan SLI)-072UK Skylake i7-6820HK Dual nVidia Geforce GTX 1080, 8GB GDDR5X DDR IV 32GB 512GB PCIE GEN3 NVMe SSD (256GB x2) 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm 18.4" FHD, Anti-Glare (1920*1080) IPS-Level £2,269 GT72VR 6RE(Dominator Pro)-040UK Skylake i7-6700HQ nVidia Geforce GTX 1070, 8GB GDDR5 DDR IV 16GB 256GB PCIE GEN3 NVMe SSD 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm 17.3" FHD, Anti-Glare (1920*1080) eDP IPS-Level with G-Sync £563 GT72VR 6RD(Dominator)-037UK Skylake i7-6700HQ nVidia Geforce GTX 1060, 6GB GDDR5 DDR IV 16GB 256GB PCIE GEN3 NVMe SSD 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm 17.3" FHD, Anti-Glare (1920*1080) eDP IPS-Level with G-Sync £269 GT72VR 6RE(Dominator Pro)-234UK Skylake i7-6700HQ nVidia Geforce GTX 1070, 8GB GDDR5 DDR IV 16GB 128GB SSD PCIE GEN3 NVMe SSD 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm 17.3" FHD, Anti-Glare (1920*1080) eDP IPS-Level with G-Sync £372
GT72VR options are all a DOWNGRADE apart from the GPU in GTX 1070 model but what about RAM, SSD, CPU???
But why would I want to PAY for a downgrade?
I don't want SLI.
And if I went for it it would be more expensive than selling my current notebook and buying from Amazon UK brand new....sasuke256 likes this. -
You are the 2nd person to post a similar list, and my reaction is the same too, where are the GT73VR options?
Those would be a good fitting upgrade for a GT72S owner, much more affordable than a GT83VR which is so much larger.
I would ask for GT73VR options, as the others aren't a reasonable upgrade from your GT72S.
Maybe check and find a few GT73VR models / configurations you want and send those along as suggestions.
The GT72 now hasn't the same features as even your previous generation GT72S has - no GPU MUX switch, dGPU only now, 1 M.2 slot instead of 3 M.2 slots, and the CM236 from the previous generation was downgraded to a HM170.
The GT73VR has all those options that the previous GT72 had, plus a better screen and a 1080 single GPU option.
Good luck!, and please let us know how it works out

Trust me, I am not going ahead with current upgrade options. Have already contacted @MSI Natalie requesting suitable options. Seriously, it will be cheaper for me to sell my current box and buy brand new from Amazon. The value of this trade up is to put it gently: questionable.
