You guys are not going to believe this. After harassing MSI Australia about this, I get this reply:
Dear Loyal Gamers,
Thank you for your continuous support of MSI products.
We, MSI, can offer the latest GT72VR 6RE(Dominator Pro Tobii)-099AU with GTX 1070 graphic cards at $3,599, which is gives a 10% discount compared to its original selling price of $3,999
If you agree the price, please give us a feedback to [email protected] before 31st Oct, 2016. In the mean time, you have to return your NB Gt72s 6qf (gtx980) with battery, AC adaptor, and related key parts if you decide to have the trade in.
we would like to know your feedback, and will do our best to offer the best service for you.
MSI
Keep in mind I spent 5200$ on a MSI GT72s 6qf with the gtx980.
This is just ridiculous.mason2smart, hmscott and MiSJAH like this. -
So they want you to trade yours in for a 10% discount? Or are they just offering a new computer to you at a discount if you do not want to trade? -
Feedback: "I absolutely don't agree. You want to me to give you my 5000 laptop so I can save a measly 500 bucks on a brand new laptop?! That's just outrageous! Infact your offer is so terrible, I could even sell my laptop on eBay for more 2000, buy your new laptop at FULL price and still have more money left!! The point is you guys made promises that you now can't keep. I don't understand why I need to spend a ridiculous 3500 to buy a new laptop from you. If you guys had any respect for the customer, you would offer such new laptops below 1K for an exchange of my near new 980gtx laptop."
They are giving me ****ing 10% of a new laptop IN EXCHANGE for mine. -
They either think we can't count or can't count themselves.

I own the GT80 2QE-001US as well with the dual 980m's. When I bought this, it was top of the line. My upgrade path is and always was a 1080 SLI setup. If I wanted a slower option, I would have purchased the 970 SLI model instead of this one. When I bought this, the 980S was not out at the time, or I would have gone that route.
The only way MSI is going to satisfy me at this point is with a GT83VR 1080 SLI. If there is any clause that removes the option to upgrade to the next generation after Pascal, then I am not paying a dime for this upgrade, since I would be allowing them to break a contractual legal obligation for 2 generations of GPU upgrades. My time and data migration are hassle enough and I will handle that on my end.
I will also take a full refund of my purchase price, since MSI is not able to provide the promised upgrades.mason2smart, DukeCLR and MiSJAH like this. -
Don't try to bypass the language filter. Yo do not need to curse to argue or debate. Next try I catch will result in actions taken. As angry as you are regarding the whole upgrade program, remember the forum rules.
-
Maybe you should go back further on the posts then you would see that MSI is violating a Law in the US called "The Fair Trades Act" this is called "bait and switch" so according to that law MSI owes us the cost of the upgrades had there been an upgrade including the GPU. That is the reason the US people are here not to get "free stuff" to make sure we get what is owed to us. Please do your research and read the entire thread before making negative comments without understanding what is going on here. I was one of the people responsible for creating this room and I am from the US the moderator made it for us because this is a huge problem for MSI and will result in a Class Action Law Suit here in the US.mason2smart, hmscott, sasuke256 and 2 others like this.

zziplex, keep the forum rules in mind and stop accusing people of not following your ideas. You don't want to accept the upgrade program? Good, because it is way too expensive and not a good offer. Let users decide for themselves.
People are free to pursue the actions they seem necessary, and there are users here that can help, depending on their country, such as CARL JONES. Each country has different tools and means of pursuit that should be researched.
Harassing users here is not allowed (don't blame others, and don't take the situation lightly, for many are affected and deserve to speak their mind, lets try to do it in an orderly manner).hmscott, RandomID, twistedmr and 1 other person like this. -
Thank you
-
Bait and switch would be if they advertised upgradeable GPUs then told you after visiting the website that only non-upgradeable GPU laptops were available before you bought anything. This is worse. It's a simple case of false advertising with untrue claims.mason2smart, hmscott, zziplex and 2 others like this.

I'm not even a GT72/GT80 owner (I own a mere GS43VR), and crap like this is decreasing the odds that I'll ever buy another MSI product. They clearly have no intention of fixing this situation that they created, and how they're handling this mess speaks volumes about the type of company they are. Shameful.

Okay, just wasn't sure if you were being promised the moon by an over-zealous lawyer. Hit 'em hard and see what sticks.
What exactly am I telling to whom? -
If your in the US contact me about a class action law suit I am heading up

I think if you really wanted to get MSI's attention, maybe we need to contact tech and gaming websites who have published articles and reviews on MSI products, and have them write an article about this debacle. It would make for a juicy article and at the same time negative press for MSI. This would add more pressure on MSI to fulfill their end of the bargain.

By the way ... to be honest ... the "poor" countries pay more, because the fees are higher, as here.
And they have a customer service less efficient.
Double joke.
However, I agree with you, it is clear that the head office in Taiwan has left the various offices to manage the trade on their own, dealing exclusively to ship the new units. Then the most "well-off" offices will have chance to make better offers.Last edited: Oct 12, 2016mason2smart, RandomID, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -
Every thing is happening that should be happening. People are making thier way here and signing up for the lawsuit. When we win it will set a presidence for the rest of you so you can take action on your own or with a group. Or maybe nothing happens but at least I tried.mason2smart, RandomID, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -
Heidern,
did you get your (trade-in) offer from MSI Italy? I am from Slovakia and I've already contacted and queried MSI Poland (a regional MSI service center) about the trade-in program. Unfortunately they currently don't run such a program, nor do they know if they will run one in the near future. Perhaps contacting MSI UK will help? I also started a thread here as instructed by @snallygaster, so hopefully they will get to me shortly (as we are approaching the given deadline) -
I'm going to bug Linus Tech Tips I like them. I'm going to talk to the customer service. I think they should explain why they only did a little blurb about this now but when they did multiple reviews when the Titan and Dominator came out it was the best thing ever (pretty frickin cool). I think they should bare some of the responsibility their YouTube video helped make up my mind to buy it. At least that's how I'm framing it. If you haddent noticed I'm a trouble maker

Just being a bit of a devil's advocate but people keep bring up the deadline wanting a response from msi. The deadline is for us to contact them not the other way around. The offer might take longer (I don't mind, more time to save but only if a fair offer).

Yeah I asked my lawyer about that he said the standard is 90 days from the time that they make the announcement so he said that if they don't do anything in 90 days then they're going to send them something a letter or email and explain to them the lawmason2smart and hmscott like this.

Yeah, to me it sounds like lame excuses to make worse offers (or no offers at all). I wonder how they're gonna deal with full refunds if they can't even offer decent trade-in's.
I think that MSI contacted most of those tech reviewers/websites asap and asked them not to mention this whole situation. Otherwise... well, otherwise MSI simply won't send them samples and free stuff anymore. Just my thoughts, of course.mason2smart, DukeCLR and MiSJAH like this. -
Well LTT is going to have to explain that to me. Because that kind of cronyism is not going to fly with the people watching their websites, not cool, that means they're "on the take".mason2smart, MiSJAH and RandomID like this. -
From the MSI UK, so I guess if anyone of you guys bought the GT72/GT80 in UK just use this form and send it to that email adress.

Just so i am clear. It is absolutely not possible for a 10 series card to fit the 9 series MXM chassis? As they are really pushing the trade in program. Above it says they are working with their engineering team and external partners, does this mean that they are working on possible upgrade kit further down the line?
In my eyes an upgrade kit (card, pipes, fans) would make them more money than trade in's, as i am yet to see any offer posted that is reasonable. -
It fits, has the same TGP (970M---1060, etc...) BUT it seems somehow they require some other magical power that only a GT72VR mobo can provide.. And yes it appears to be the exact same mobo of the GT72 without the GPU mux and 4 M2 slots..
-
Right. So i'm guessing nobody has bought a card and tested to see if it works? I'm guessing the Bios from the new GT72/3 will have to be modded onto our old systems, with some tweaks.
Even though i have had no reply from MSI US (i'm UK based, supplier advised i go through the US), i'm not holding my breath for a decent trade in, in fact, i don't want to trade in unless it is for the GT73. I am actually happy with my system, and i am in no hurry for the upgrade. My only concern was that if they are not offering an upgrade at any time, then i may as well see what they offer me now. My system is kept in perfect condition, only used roughly 6 hours a week, and i still have the original packaging, so i would rather sell privately than let MSI make money on it.MiSJAH likes this. -
For the Uk guys: how did you get a discount on the original trade in price? Or more like discounts.
Ps:Natalie told me the offer is valid for 3 month since the email with the laptop list

I am in the same situation. For me, it doesn't make much sense to trade-in for GT72VR, since it has the i7-6700HQ CPU which will bottleneck the performance of the 1070/1080 GPU series. I am now in touch with Czech&Slovak MSI reps. Will have to wait and see what they can offer me.

Should be only $750 to upgrade to 1080 sli -

Why ignore second upgrade as nvidia will probably continue using desktop GPUs from now on -

Sure, if MXMs weren't outrageously priced. But a 1080 MXM is around $1200 and 980Ms sell for around $600, so $1200 is closer to the mark.mason2smart likes this.
