intel is behind they need real competition not crap from AMD... We should be seeing octocore processors in laptops by now but... Intel decided to gimp all laptop processors... its not even like they have areally high end one they can charge a lot for... they all cost a lot and they all are gimped... I mean... look at the difference between the 6820 and 6920... almost no difference except a $200+ price increase and somewhat false overclocking promises on the 6820 -- it has huge tdp throttling when its actually under high usage...Under normal circumstances when running longer programs its practically impossible to oc and see a speed increase because of throttling...

To be honest, what are you going to do with an octa core processor in a gaming laptop? There are a lot of benchmarks, which show that extra cores does not give any significantly better performance. Better give us higher clocked and unlocked processors than octa core processor clocked and locked at 3.2 GHz.

CPU is less of a bottlenecking factor nowadays, most of gamers would prefer a better GPU such as 10x0.

For professional application, I would suggest Xeon-based workstations because mobile processors are not intended for such tasks.
When you mention "professional application" and octa-core, it feels like tremendous of processing power is needed. :)

MSI is going to stretch this out, until a court of law says otherwise.
Cannonlake, next year, is bringing a septa-core mobile CPU.

Anyone wanna take an over/under bet on the price?

This is like the celebrity who is caught red handed with a hooker.
Yet denies and delays and then hides from the moment of truth.
The whole time he/she could have just come clean and put up with a little pain/embarrassment.

Instead they draw the whole thing out and in doing so keep the bad news...in the news.

MSI come clean...do the right thing and we can love you again (long time :) )

So long as you copy the mod wire the 1070 at least should be compatible in any notebook it fits in as proven in this video with an MSI barebone (precursor to the GT62):

So you guys have an upgrade route, MSI just have chosen not to officially support it.

Remember the 1080 is a no due to the different design that GDDR5x demands but the 1070 should be a nice upgrade over any previous gen card.

    Two questions:

1: Why the heck isn't MSI supporting upgrades to the 1070 if it is demonstrably possible?

2: How bad would a lawyer need to be to lose a case to MSI over this?

I don't know what to personally do at this point. I never contacted MSI because I have no desire to trade in my laptop. I won't have money until late next year until my Dad's estate is settled, then I can either buy a 1070 for my GT72 or a lawyer, but I don't know what to do right now

What are the power requirements on the 1070, though? Would an SLI-001 with only the 1 power adapter be able to power 2 1070's running SLI, or would it run into power issues and not be able to feed the cards?

No, different variants can have different power limits. The GTX980 in the GT80S is capped at 137W at stock, whereas the Clevo one in the P870DM is 200W.

My bad, I thought that all OEM variant were having approximately the same power at stock  It's a 30% difference that's a lot ! But in the end at stock clock, how much does the 980 takes on the GT80S and on the Clevo ? Should be the same, isn't it ? 200W is to allow for OC, correct ? So Clevo allowing better OC is also allowing next gen upgrade of the MXM module if I understand correctly (from strict power consideration).

Stock clocks on the 980 already pull more than 137W under heavy load if not limited to that by the VBIOS.

    Upgrade cost based on MSI's previous insulting pricing, from sli 965m to sli 1070 should be $2,600 as it is a 3 tier jump in GPU. 965m > 1050(Ti) > 1060 > 1070 - 2 x $400(?) + 2 x $600 + 2 x $700 = $3,400

Unless you want to upgrade to 1080's, then $5,400. Edit: (so they would be charging you $600 to take your laptop from you!! - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154306&cm_re=gt83vr-_-34-154-306-_-Product)

1050(Ti) prices are guesses based on MSI's provided costs for the other boards.

This further goes to demonstrate how insulting this offer actually is.

Also how long do we have to do this? If I can wait till like... January, I will be in much better shape... I was hoping it would have been between 1000~1800 though... That's a little disappointing. I just want to sustain my ability to upgrade to like an 11 or 12 some day... I don't really need the performance right now. Maybe I will just wait and pick up a 980m Upgrade when people start selling these on ebay or whatever since I'm sure the majority of owners have not heard about this program.

I pledge to do my utmost possible to damage (legally) MSI brand and their interests if they don't solve the issue we are facing, and that start by giving a face to your customers !!!

Most likely the have considered it and because this is issue is only hitting a small but vocal minority and the story is not getting any traction with any social media or tech reporting sites and their products are still rated highly on all e-tailers and reviewers. Their cost benefit analysis probably shows that this won't affect their bottom line much so they don't see a reason to give a darn right now if ever.

From my point of view the fact that we would lose RAID 0 or 1, even though we gain NVME is enough to refuse the offer, what I was referring to as not on topic was the benchmark.
Which I now consider as relevant because you proved that by switching to NVME we lose speed... My comment was just to refrain from posting so much bench and for me the poitn was already obvious that MSI is screwing us on the RAID to no RAID trade in. No offense meant ! :)
