that reference number is unique to you. you might want to get rid of that in the text and the shipping address in your posts.

So from 970m you can go to gt72vr with 1060 for 600$or gt73vr with 1070 for 1000$. But I don't understand is it 600$+400$+1000$ for 1080 or 600$+1000$.

1000$ for a GT73VR with GTX 1070... Not too bad...

Just got my e-mail, they aren't charging me for the OEM RAM that went bad that I can't find, so that's nice. Now I'm debating going with their suggested path of SLI 1070s, or "downgrading" as they put it to the gt73vr with a single 1080.
I purchased a gt62vr w/1070 to use until this all got sorted out, and going from SLI annoyances in the GT80 to the smoothness of a single card with GSYNC in this gt62vr really has me tempted. I'd miss that keyboard though.mason2smart, DukeCLR and hmscott like this. -
I am not worried about that reference and I have already awaiting my CLEVO EVOC P870DM3 from HIDevolution. Once i receive it I am selling the MSI

Remember everyone, that you each need to also contact MSI directly with the same doubts and questions you have. As it has been stated multiple times, this is being solved on a case by case basis. It is very difficult to get any generalized answer that helps everyone.
It is perfectly understandable that some users are angry about the situation. It is good (and healthy) to vent. Just remember that only venting is not a solution. If you want answers or seek specific info go for it. hmscott does not work for MSI yet he continued to ask MSI directly instead of waiting for publications.
GT73 with 1080 would be my choice. Gsync with high refreshrate and a 1080 is a great combo.mason2smart and hmscott like this. -

Don't stop trying, they will catch up and respond eventually, you are a customer that has a valid trade-in.
Maybe summarize all your past questions, simplify into a new email that isn't too long, is very focused, and say you want these questions answered before following through with your trade-in.

You might get more $ doing the trade-in, paying out some $, and then selling the brand new Pascal model.

I hear you, but I wouldn't be able to net the full price if I sold the new model. Why would someone buy it from me when they can easily acquire else where for the same price. I wouldn't sell it for less.
-
Gonna be some math involved, try to sell yours for a while and see how much people offer, that'll give you a part of the equation missing right now.
I know I have seen top config 980 GT80's not sell at $2000, which went new for $5000+.
Unless you get lucky, you won't get much.
But, maybe it will be enough
-
Well right now I use my laptop for class and if i did the upgrade I wouldn't want to open it as it lower it's value as well as I won't have anything to work on.mason2smart and hmscott like this.

Now that the generation upgrades are no longer part of MSI. I decided to focus on full desktop laptops.
mason2smart and hmscott like this. -
You can still list it for sale to see what offers you get
If you get a high offer, worth packing it up for sale, so much the better.
Every day you wait to sell it, is another day the value drops. -
With what you have on the trade-in list that buys you 2 generations of trade-in's, another reason to follow through with a trade-in now instead of selling the old laptop.
You can get a Pasal upgrade, and a Volta / ? upgrade.
Can't do that with a desktop

I will put up for sale after I receive the new one.

Got a reply from MSI today, so the price and formula was right. Cost $2400 to upgrade to the dual 1080 gtx config but the down side is EVERYONE is doing this option and they are sold the FU@K out and on a HUGE back order. Rumor that some people are trading in the smaller laptops and paying damn hear the 5k retail for these things lol.... at that rate they should just go to a retailer.

So my laptop was bought few months ago from USA but I currently live in the Philippines.
I asked if I can participate in the trade in program and long story short here is the summary
"We were told that you are currently in the Philippines. For this trade-in program, we will only ship to a US address. So unless you are planning to coming back to the US soon or have someone in the US that can ship the new traded-in unit to you, it wouldn’t be possible for you to participate in the trade-in program."
So I asked them if I can skip the GTX 10 series and opt for the 11 series.
So far no reply.
Though I am thinking my GT72S laptop by that time would be valued by MSI as very low and its not even worth to go for the trade in program?
Any advice thankshmscott likes this. -
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way...
You must be the original owner to get the trade-in, you can ask MSI to confirm, but I would work under that assumption before promising something you cannot offer to a buyer.
Also, MSI warranties in the USA aren't transferable, only good for the original owner.
Asus warranties are transferable, at least last time I went through selling one. I went through Asus Support to transfer ownership to the new owner. They set up an MSI account and their information was given to Asus support to attach the laptop to their new account.
It's best to ask MSI what's what, before promising someone else what they are getting isn't what they are getting.

MSI misleading people about upgradability is not a warranty issue. This issue affects some that purchased new and the warranty has expired.CARL JONES, tiliarou and briedfox like this.
-
You are confusing the information I was trying to pass along.
AFAIK:
1) MSI Warranty isn't transferable to another person, the original owner is the only one that has the warranty.
2) The MSI trade-in is only usable by the original owner, no other person can trade-in the laptop, only the original owner.
If you are the original owner, and your warranty has already expired, I don't think that affects your trade-in as the original owner.
Again, ask MSI directly to make sure I have this information correct.
MSI can of course change their minds and open up the warranty and trade-in to secondary owners, but don't count on it until MSI tells you directly.
It's worth asking about
[email protected] -
I agree, MSI needs to address this as a second owner could have taken part in upgrading their MXM GPU if MSI had stuck to their advertising.

Where is it written that a warranty is not transferable ? The warranty is product dependent as far as I know, not owner dependent.
Where is it written that the trade-in is only usable by the original owner ? How do you define an "original owner" ?
As long as you provide a valid invoice for a product that was legally bought, why would the manufacturer not obey the law and respect the owner (original or not) rights ?mason2smart, MiSJAH, briedfox and 1 other person like this. -
Looks like they are buying your laptop for 800€ only:
https://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/msi-gt73vr-6re-titan-gt73vr-6re16sr451-0017a1-sku7-a1493246.html
Which laptop do you currently have ? The prices are way too expensive in my opinion, however you get the 6820HK in the GT73 which is way better than the 6700HQ... -
When you bought the laptop, you registered that serial number and associated it with a receipt - that's part of the registration. That starts the warranty period.
MSI already knows who the registered owner is and which laptop they own, and they have a copy of your receipt - bill of sale - it's part of the completed registration process.
It's been said that the warranty is only for the original owner, and I can only find one instance where it's explicitly mentioned;
"Accidental Damage Coverage only applies to the original owner and is not transferable."
https://us.msi.com/page/warranty/
But, neither does it say anything about the base warranty being transferable. It only talks about the original owner.
I think you all need to ask MSI directly. And, please ask MSI to include the answers in their "Answers FAQ"
[email protected] for the owners only trade-in question.
You can open a support ticket with MSI to ask if your laptop warranty is transferable to someone you sell or give the laptop to.
Please come back and let us know what MSI tells you

With the trade-in MSI will likely need to build more than expected

Hey!, that's great
Who told you? The MSI support, or? Did you do it?
That's not what I was told, but that was a while ago.
I think it would be a good idea to get it in writing, something that can be re-posted here. So when any of you get a written reply, please post it so we can all use it as a reference.
I think it's important to ask MSI and get an ok from them personally / directly before selling your laptop to someone else - and it sounds like you can swap ownership to them - give it a try
Anyone have news about whether the trade-in only works for the original owner, or if it's transferable?Last edited: Nov 16, 2016 -
MSI support told me, but it was over the phone. This was fairly recently, around 3-4 months ago or so.

No, my understanding is that to exchange your GT72 for a GT72VR or GT73VR, you will "sell" your old laptop to MSI and get a discount on the new one, so in the end you will send your GT72, pay 2000€ and receive a GT73VR. As I found the GT73VR they offer on a Deutsch website, and the price is around 2800€, it means they value his old GT72 only 800€ which is a scandale (but again it depends of the specs of his GT72, maybe I'm a bit too strong in my words).MiSJAH likes this.

But still the price is way to high!
They are going to keep my old laptop and still make more money from using the parts and all! This is just a RIP off
If maybe i had to pay like 800 euro then it would be ok but they want me to shell out 1399€ -
how much did u pay for it? maybe u can sell urs and make more money to upgrade by ur own w/o msi trade-inMiSJAH likes this.
