Ah, well that wouldn't be it then. Just a bad card.
That sucks Bigpete1, waiting for your new computer and then having the wait even longer for a working one! Hope they get that resolved with a new screen.

How's the 4K screen quality? Colors etc? Is it 6bpc or 8bpc?
Witcher 3 should run good enough without hairworks and toned down distance objects. Or completely maxed at around 30+ fps.hmscott likes this. -
The memory is samsung, but the card is bad. I do see a funky artifacting flash, not scrolling as it crashes, but it appears to be more of a dump than a standard memory artifacting issue. The nvidia drivers also intermittently crash.
Just for giggles, I ran the intel GPU for all the same games and no system crashes. -
I love this screen...it seems to be just as nice as the one I traded it for.
It is a 8bit panel.
Watching 4k stuff on you tube is nice!
There is a little bit of light bleed at the lower corners but I never notice it unless I have a black screen and I look for it.hmscott likes this. -
Then I will aim to get a 4K screen in the next purchase. If I ever buy a next one hahaha. It is awesome that it is an 8bit panel.hmscott likes this.

Ive sent 2 emails since my "Yes I want to upgrade asap" on the 6th of november and have yet to hear a word. could someone pm me the us number they used to contact them as i wanted this finished by new years. thank you

How does a single 1080p do on 4k though? My concern of going with the 4k display is how that card will handle UHD content.hmscott likes this.

they are going at their own pace and will get to you when it is your turn. I am still waiting to hear back from them also and i contacted them over a month before you did. It seems we have no choice but to be patient.cisco kidd, briedfox and hmscott like this.

Yep thats what I expect. I responded just a few days ago, doubt I will hear anything till late January or Feb. I am okay with that as it gives me time to save funds. I would like a 4 k model but I don't think I can swing it as it's big cost to me if 1300, almost smarter to buy an external 4k monitor. I imagine a 1070 should be able to eek buy on 4k and if not one can drop resolution on external monitor and play 1440

I have not had it long enough to say for sure...but with settings maxed in both Witcher3 and Battlefield 1 it is pretty smooth. However I have not been in a big battle yet.

You have to play the waiting game and I`m only guessing but if I was working on the email list and someone was sending me multiple emails, they would probably goto the back of the list.

Which very well may be my case since people that have submitted the form long after I have has gotten a response. Yet I am still waiting. LoL

My original email was sent to me on the 11/10/2016 asking me to send my details and invoice.
I received my offer on the 9/12/2016 and accepted the offer and asked them to move things forward on the 12/12/2016.
I received another email asking me to sign a form accepting the deal on the 14/12/2016.
So I scanned my signiture put it on the document and sent off again on the 14/12/2016.
I`m now waiting to hear back, so I can send my laptop in, nothing as yet on the 16/12/2016.
This is msi UK, I do wonder what other peoples time frames are andif they have pestered msi.

So I got a reply from MSI with what looks like the standard offer:
However, did anyone ask and get an answer about the price difference form the Titan-017 and the Titan Pro-003 upgrade? Seems that the 017 is 2099 and the 003 is 2599 which is only a 500 dollar difference so where are they getting the extra 300 dollars?Attached Files:

It does fairly well even on new games if you don't necessarily max games. In the case of the 4K edition of the Gt73, you also have Gsync which greatly helps things feel smooth, unlike an external TV which will be slight less smoother.
But games like Witcher 3, Raise of the tomb raider, Alien isolation (this one ran max 60fp I believe) and stuff like that does work between 30fps (when maxing) to 45-50s with high settings, on several games.
If you check out my review, the few games I tried were running on the 100s of fps, with the exception of maxed witcher 3. But yeah, it is definitely playable. Hell I used to play with my 980m SLI on SLI enabled games and the GTX1080 pulls an additional 20% or so performance out of the box, at 4K.
Awesome, I am not the only one that has tried connecting to external 4K. while official specs only said two things, either 4K 60hz, or HDMI 1.4, I wasn't sure what they put in on these new machines. Turns out I can do 4K 60hz with chroma 4:4:4 so I do believe we have HDMI 2.0 but the specs shown are outdated.hmscott likes this. -
So, today was Christmas bonus pay day. Still no offer from MSI.
Made a decision to jump ship.........AORUS X5 v6-CF2 arrives tomorrow. (That's £2.3k MSI could have had if they had made a reasonable offer).
Will hold onto my GT72 for a while and see where the trade in ends up, may trade it for a GT73VR if the price is right. -
Thew new Aorus with 1080 had surprisingly good cooling for the GPU despite being thin. I suppose it was jut louder in general but that was a good surprise. Let us know how it is/handles!
-
Well pleasantly surprised. This AORUS makes my GT72 appear sluggish and old.

Yeah, that's what we have been saying. Even a 1070 single GPU is on par with a 980m SLI system. It has all the advantages of full performance without the weakness of SLI support in some games.
A single 1080 performs on par, to better, than 980m SLI overclocked. I have scored and performed more so far with my GT73VR 1080 than my max OC with 980m SLI.MiSJAH likes this. -
I currently have 2600 USD in my account waiting for their reply. I replied within 2 days of their initial offer email with details in november and the first email I had sent them was my info pdf they had requested by the 31st of october which I finally found after checking every 4-5 months googling "MSI GT80 GPU Upgrade" and it finally showing the forums here and a single thread on the official msi global forums. Have a friend interested in my older toshiba x875 with nvidia 3d vision which would give me almost another 700. When that happens Im buying something either different company, or if they finally reply MSI.
Waiting game is ridiculous why I asked for their number, guess asking here is getting the answer "GIYF" but, was hoping it was different than the regular support number listed on their website is all. I wont have the money in February or march, and thinking several months is ridiculous for their mistake. Hire temps to take messages and a database of questions asked or something... -
Yeah, the customer service for this trade-in is an absolute joke and MSI should be embarrassed how they are handling it. It shows me that they don't really care all that much about fixing their mistake and are probably hoping less and less people sit around waiting for their response so they can limit the amount of people that do the trade-in. I wouldn't be surprised if some people never get a response or are waiting 6+ months from now hoping that MSI replies to them. Very unprofessional of them...Last edited: Dec 18, 2016MiSJAH likes this.

@Markafano, How do you feel about the offer? Complete piss take.
-
Hes gettin almost 1K for an almost 2 year old computer which cost him, £1600, losing £650 isnt that bad of an offer.
Usualy computer prices plummet as soon as you buy them and you see your £2K machine be reduced to a £100 at a rift store.
What do you want MSI to do, give him a £2K computer and a chequ for £1000.hmscott likes this. -
I would like to see MSI stick to their word, surely that's not too much to ask for?
Why is MSI buying his laptop even relevant? Didn't MSI state the costs would be comparable to previous MXM upgrades?
So which previous MXM upgrades took account of the age of the notebook the new GPU was going into?
This is a great deal if you want to buy a discounted notebook but a bloody terrible deal if it's an alternative to a simple GPU upgrade.briedfox likes this. -
If we are just going of mxm upgrades, how much does a 1080 Gpu cost ?
I just sold an 980M for about £340 on ebay, I probably could of got more, but I`m not greedy.
I guess you could put a price of £1000 ?
Add £959 which gives him, £1959, I guess its still £500 short.
For a trade in, its a good offer, if your saying all you should be paying is for the mxm card, then it does suck.
But sadly, no one is just upgrading their mxm cards, its a complete computer upgrade to almost the newst and best there is, for a laptop. -
MXM 1080 = $1,350 so around a grand in the UK. So yes, you're correct, well short of a good offer.
MSI said the trade in program "is available at costs comparable to previous MXM upgrades." so that's for the entire new notebook.
They didn't say you can have a new GPU for the cost of the trade in program and then an extra £500.
As customers it's down to us to hold MSI to account over the statements it has made about this program.briedfox likes this. -
Hi Just seen the reply from MSI to my sons' request for his trade in (posted above).
(Sorry meant to post this immediately after but got side tracked)
The bit in bold is a change MSI have made to their statement (when compared to mine), without this it was not clear when the 2 year cut off would occur.
So his laptop was 2 years old in October, the first contact made was to Neil in September, so hopefully if we want to take this offer up it is still valid for this upgrade.
The one that we'd exchange for would be the GT72VR 6RD(Dominator)-037UK which is currently selling for just under £1650 at several places.
If MSI were to offer in the exchange the GT72VR at the price it is currently retailing at, at various places, and had valued his laptop at £1000 then along with the other freebies that various merchants are including, laptop bag headphones etc. then I think it would have been decent, the offer they are giving I agree is not terribad but I think a couple of hundred quid out from my perspective.
If of course everywhere was selling at full MRSP then there would be no debate with MSI only making there offer at full MRSP but surely they ought to at the very least be able to price match the the resellers that they sell their laptops through
But the main reason for me posting the above offer was purely to highlight the valuations of laptops, e.g. MSI devalued my sons' laptop by £640 over two years and devalued my laptop by £540 after only 6 months, this is a joke. -
Charging MSRP for the trades is complete and utter garbage. We should be paying manufacturer cost - NOT MSRP. The trade comes as a complete burden to the owner, and if this puts MSI at a loss for absorbing our old devices, that issue needs to be taken up with MSI's internal marketing team, or NVIDIA - NOT the customer.
-
I agree completely, the first step though is to get them to agree that charging full MSRP is unrealistic when their resellers are selling it for less than that, and if there is no justification for them selling laptops at full MSRP then what price should theybe selling them for?
Obviously from our perspective we'd say that it should be no more than the manufacturer costs and MSI will come up with another arbitary amount.briedfox likes this. -
Cost of MXM upgrade +3%, I would find acceptable, for a like for like features replacement notebook with Pascal.
-
Still nothing and 10 days to go, I do wonder what the dead line involves ?
Is it the payment date or does it have to be the date before you accept the offer ?
All I need is the ok, to post my laptop and then payment.
I wish they would hurry up, Id rather not be without a computer over the holidays.
Id at least like my upgrade by the 10th of jan, anyone know where the upgrades come from ?
Is it poland or the uk ?MiSJAH likes this. -

How the hell did they devalue yours by more £'s in a shorter time frame than mine?
This is a scam, it's the only fitting description.
MSI are not sticking to their announcements.

Mines from june 2016, got £2209, to upgrade is £500 but I`m losing some mem and ssd, so it will come too £290.
I still dont understand where they get their prices from. -
I'm guessing it's a 'what do we think we can get away with' type of thing.
I'd be even more pissed off if I was this guy:
That's exactly the same laptop that I have and he's being offered £510 less.
@hmscott are you still claiming this is not a scam?
Edit: How can the same notebook have two different launch prices? MSI are really incompetent.
If anyone has received an offer email from MSI UK, could you forwards it to [email protected] I will consolidate the models and values into something we as a group can present to MSI to get further resolution.
Thanks.briedfox likes this. -
I can only think, but model numbers may have diffrent hardware and its the computers serial number which shows the true hadware info.
So computers look the same, but they must have diffrent guts inside. -
Not in the UK. The ***UK on the notebook name is the specific spec. I've cross referenced various models and it comes back true.

Peoples prices make no logical sence, I hope you can eventualy release your database for all to see.
Would be intresting to see the varience between models and purchase dates.
Anyway, sent them another email reconfirming my acceptence of their offer and to see on what time frame we are on, as I didnt want to miss the deadline.

Well it appears you can upgrade the GT72 980m to a GTX 1070. 4th Gen 4710HQ system tested and working fine for this guy. Now I am very confused as to why MSI is saying it won't work at all. I think you guys should really question MSI here.

We need more info on this other than "I did it and fps are ok and runs cool" because he even said there is weird incompatibility at BIOS level, and erratic performance. Without benches we don't know if its running into power limits etc.
It would be great if it can be upgraded, but we need more info so that users have a choice like our GT60/70 official upgrade thread. Well, not "official" official, but you get the point
