sent them an email nothing as yet, I hope I can at least send them monies today.
The ISBN bank transfer is a pain as it costs monies.
An online payment would of been better.

Just got a generic email, your laptop has arrived and is awaiting to be checked,
So I don't even know if it was crushed at ups sorting machine of doom.
They will get back to me if all that's left of the thing is metallic and plastic confetti.

Guessing 1 hour left Poland time, I was hoping to pay now and get the thing Wednesday,.
Ill be away for almost a week and computerless.

    Got a reply :

    Dear *******,

We’ve received a laptop with 2 dents on cover.

You’ll get a response from sales about replacement information.

Not sure what this means, I hope the laptop is ok, I did wrap it well.
Dam it ups, not doubt they saw MSI on the outer brown box and treated it like a football.

MSI USA said that simple cosmetic damage wouldn't reduce your value, only parts missing would be charged at full retail cost - like RAM, storage, etc that were part of the original shipping build.

Also, non-working parts would be covered by your original warranty.

You don't need to let them try to charge you or reduce your value.

I am surprised they would mention the dents... were they there when you boxed it up and sent it?

No, my laptop was in perfect condition, even gave the whole thing a good wipe down using anti static computer wipes. I boxed it in the original box and then covered it in a couple of layers of bubble wrap.
Then put that box into the original brown MSI box, not sure how it got dented.

I hope its only slightly cosmetic, fingures crossed Ill find out more today.
Not sure when the shifts end in Poland, I know its about 5:15 there now.

I used the same box it was sent in, I already sent it out in the same box for a repair, though I did use more padding, but the returned laptop used less.

Ill have to use extra bubble wrap if it needs sending out again.
When I did get the screen fixed there was slight indentation, but it was barely visible.
The front panel was made out of aluminum.

You could only see it at a certain angle, but it was also a new screen as the hinges snapped of
for no reason and the AC power wouldn't charge the laptop.

I`m hoping its just that and nothing serious.

Do wonder what they are going to do with our old computers ? Refurbish or use as spare parts ?
Are the parts worth more than the laptop ?

GTX 980M 4GB sold on 12th December 2016 in the UK for £390 - ebay link.

Parts could net them a tidy profit.

Then you should be ok. If it's shipping damage then it's not your fault.

Probably a good idea for everyone to take date/time stamped photo's of their laptop before packing, maybe even a photo of the sealed box, just in case. But, even if you don't have that I wouldn't worry.

They refresh it and sell as refurbished/open-box items.

It's better to protect the original box with another carton box because if there's a shipping damage then your wait time will extend by two (2) weeks longer even if it wasn't your fault but you will end up being the one who suffer from it. MSI will not fix a damaged product and will wait for UPS to reimburse, and so on before you get something back. Also, if the shipping insurance wasn't enough to cover it all then that's even worse.

That sucks neo I'm sure it will be fine though long as it's in working order. I went a little extreme on my packing I bought a 5 quid box which was very sturdy then I got the msi backpack that came with the gt 80 titan and since it broke I replaced it with an evertaki titan I cut up the back and use it to fill the box bottom and sides then bubble wrapped the laptop twice then wrapped that in old cardboard then placed it in. More bubble wrap on top then put the top of the bag on top then more bubble wrap and the charger on top of that. Then duct taped the box to absolute death. They would of needed a diamond cutter to get it open.

    So considering this:

MXM 1070 costs £700, MXM 980M sells for £390 value of the trade in is only £310.

Unless of course there is a loss of features in which case that value is lessened.

    Thanks for your inquiry.

The Trade-in program in offering now in AU and the deadline of the inquiry will be on 31st Jan.

Basically we will have a discount amount based on the value of your on-hand machine then you will be able to use that discount on the new GTX 10 series GT model you choose.

The value of your laptop will be determined by the SRP at the price you purchase and the age of your notebook. You will be able to use this to trade up to selected MSI Notebooks featuring Nvidia GTX 1070 / GTX 1080.

According to the data you provided to us, your discount amount will be AUD 3,709 based on 2 evaluations as follows:

    1. The original buy price of your on-hand machine MSI GT72S 6QF is AUD 5,299

    2. Your invoice date is 2016/4/1, we can accept the machine as long as it’s within 2 years warranty.

You will be able to use discount for new GTX 10xx series GT series models. Here is the model list you can choose, but please be noted that the stocks are moving every day,

some models might be out of stocks time by time.

Another email by MSI with now what looks like AUD. Can't tell if these are prices after "my discount" or "pre-discount"

Either way, how do these prices compare to around the world?

All prices are after the discount has been applied.

    The MSI GT83VR 6RF-050AU retails at $7499.00.

However, your other prices make no sense:

GT72VR 6RE(Dominator Pro)-259AU retails at $3399.00 subtract your discount amount of AUD 3,709 = -309 AND they want you to contribute $1,999.

I'd email them back asking them to proof read the figures before sending out such incompetent numeracy.

    Yea but GT73VR 6RF(Titan Pro)-025AU retails for $4799

    Last time I checked $4799 - $3709 = $1099

Not sure what math MSI does.

I wont get a chance to break out the new laptop until Monday or Tuesday. But can't seem to find the answer to this. The GT73vr does have a total of 4 storage possibilities right? 2 nvme m.2 one sata m.2 and one 2.5" sata . Or am I mistaken?

Yes, and no internal Optical slot / device - no DVD / BDR.

Oddly, there is an empty area next to the M.2 area that looks like it could have housed another 2.5" device, but there is no connector or mounting for one, and there is a structural block support in the middle of it to support the case.
    gt73_30.jpg
In the non-SLI model I wish MSI had outfitted it for a 2nd M.2 bay at best, or at worst another single 2.5" SATA bay. MSI doesn't offer an upgrade path to SLI from a single GPU, so it's really space going to waste - no sense "saving" it for a future MXM card.

well with the way this whole fiasco is going and with no response from MSI since I sent back the form completed I am strongly thinking to just keep my GT72 2Qe and slam a 1060/1070 into it down the road as it can be done and has been done. However I would like to at least have a response from MSI with an offer

Just have to keep sending them an email here and there but also be patient. I finally got mine traded.

MSI must know how many GT's they sold, and how many are being returned. They should have got some temp staff in to stop their screw up scam from being worse than it already is.

Scam or not without it there's no way I could afford to outright buy a brand new gt83vr without this trade in scheme. My prioritys in life have had to change so I am thankful to msi for giving me the opportunity to upgrade to a whole brand new notebook for only 880 pound the cost of a pretty bad pc world computer. They haven't been perfect or honest at all I agree but I am thankful.

This is the circumstance where the scheme actually works. If you want a new notebook and you have one of the eligible laptops, you get a great discount over retail on a new machine.

Whereas those of us that wanted to upgrade our GPU/s are being ripped off having to upgrade to a new machine (less features or pay a premium to retain those features).

Totally agree dude it's not the ideal situation for everyone. It was hard losing about 850gb of ssd space... and I didn't bother backing up anything because it would take to long so I have some long downloads to look forward too haha

Well today I should be able to pay for my laptop. I just hope the dents don't screw things up. Oh well will update later.
