Nah, the upgrade thread will remain active. But it will be, somewhat, seasonal? Some users will definitely wait for the 2nd upgrade, some might just wait for a better model offering. The first "batch" of users that took the program in is most likely nearing its end. But this program is going to remain in place for the 2nd promised upgrade too, particularly for users that decided to skip this gen.

Check with them again, hopefully you get a tracking # today. -
I still haven't heard anything, I'm three emails in and a phone call...MiSJAH likes this.

I have it right now, I got the tracking number 10 mins ago.
So I entered it into UPS and it was already delivered.
Because my mail was been stolen, I had it shipped to work, so I ran downstairs and there it was.
So happy, the machine is amazing, while my dragon edition was cool.
I love it so much, thanks MSI for such an amazing trade in, so happy. -
-
I don't want to look through this thread, what machine did you end up with?

Thanks, I will certainly. Or more accurately, the wife will enjoy the new gt73

Evening all,
I fear I'm a little late to party on this. I bought my GT80 the in early 2015, I only looked into upgrading it last week ago only to find out that I can't. I've followed the recommendations form this thread and filled in the form and emailed them, unfortunately I've not received any reply. I'm a UK resident but bought my laptop from HIDevolution (US company) and had it shipped over. I'm currently in Miami and will be here for another month or so before returning to the UK. If anyone could advise me on the best course of action to get the ball rolling on a trade in it'd be appreciated. -

Contact MSI directly to see if you are still qualified, so if they do allow you to do the upgrade do you have someone in the US who can do this trade-in for you? -
I currently have a US address though I'm leaving the country March 15th. Do you have any contact details? Google throws up quite a few numbers. Thanks in advance.
-
Glad to see some people are getting contacted. No contact since 108 days, 14 hours, 4 minutes, 34 seconds. Hopefully Feb will be the month!
I suppose the longer it takes, the better chance of being able to upgrade to something newer. -

The details are in the first post of this thread. -
Keep sending emails, once a week or two. Check if for any reason you might have an answer on spam. It took about 2-3 months for initial contact for me, then it all went faster than I expected.hmscott likes this.

I'm wondering Ryzek did you know about the new Nvidia 10 series cards in January? or am I missing something it's been a while. I'm trying tom get a timeline as to when all this started.
-
I knew new GPUs would come out. Thats about it. Back then I was under the impression we would get upgrade kits.
But we all know how it all turned out.

Yet upgrade are possible with a simple software trick... All with MSI hardware in MSI hardware, why don't they comment on this ??
-
I dont know. And nope, only some upgrades are possible.hmscott likes this.

I sent my form to them in late November/early December, received the trade-in information back on December 9th, then replied to that email on December 10th. MSI hasn't contacted me since. Not once. I tried replying to the original email again on Feb 10th and Feb 15th but still no response... Not cool MSI. Not cool.
-
I've given up on MSI Canada. Never budged from the single upgrade path. Sticking to what I have for as long as it'll do me, then I'll go to another brand. And I'll make sure not to recommend MSI to anyone. Good job pissing what wanted to be a loyal consumer.

Did you send emails to the same email address provided on the first post?
Have you also tried calling them?hmscott likes this. -
I'm in Canada and they're dealing with us rather rigidly. One upgrade, gt72vr only for a gt72 with a 980m. . Choice, no second upgrade. And prices aren't anything competitive to make up for it. I've made my peace with it.

How's the pricing you've received? Compare it with others. -
so i just found out today that msi was having a trade in program and i bought the msi gt72 because you were gonna be able to upgrade it my question is i have read that the last date to fill out the application was 12/31/16 i do live in the US so my question to you guys is am i too late for this program even though I had to do the research my self instead of them sending me an e-mail
-
The one option was priced right at where the American one was, allowing for exchange rate of course. The pricing was what it was, just angry of the model limitation and no second upgrade. They were not budging and made it very clear. It's all good. Made my peace with MSI.briedfox and Kevin@GenTechPC like this.

Give them a call or email them to find out if you are still qualified or not.hmscott likes this. -
I've sent an email to MSI upgrade program like 3-4 months ago, still never heard a reply back. Does Msi really spit that hard on their customers?

Is there an upgrade program for the United Kingdom? I don't see mention of one on the original post, only USA, if that's true then I'll be pretty disappointed as that was one of the main reasons I purchased the laptop..

Hello @Ixel.
There's a contact e-mail, for you guys, in the opening post. Hard to miss.toughasnails and hmscott like this. -
As you have probably read already, it is best to keep trying to contact them. As the MSI program is being handled by a smaller dedicated group, it can take time before they answer. The problem was compounded because we went through holidays and only recently came out of them. It took them a couple of months to contact me and just a month ago I continued my trade, ending a week or so ago.
Obviously, everyone's experience is going to be different. Mine was positive, and the only drawback was the long time for reply, but I was hardly impacted by it.hmscott likes this. -
If the program is hardly worth it to you, the beauty of the forums here is that users have confirmed that you can perform an upgrade on your own, for your machine, and install up to a 1070 on your GT72. Older laptops never really had "official" upgrades, like the GT60 and older series, yet users were able to successfully put even the most recent GPUs on them. A GT60 today can use a GTX1060 for example, and we are talking about older, 3rd/4th gen CPUs.tjg_marantz and hmscott like this.

MSI's lack of communication to its customers expressing intertest in the upgrade is just pathetic. I sent in the form once completed after receiving it, then they go silent finally responding at the end of Jan saying they will be adderessing most of the emails in the mth of Feb. Since that email I have sent 3 emails asking what is up and why I have not had any response. Absolutely silent, you try calling the US and all you get it voicemail or a busy signal, good luck getting a call back.
This has got to the point of being pretty pathetic and has me considering to just upgrade my unit to a 1060/1070 myself -
Thanks!
That's the plan ultimately once it starts to slow down. Going to leave msi out of the loop.
Do you have the link to the post that explains the procedure? I'm just not seeing it but I know it's here somewhere.Last edited: Feb 23, 2017tiliarou likes this. -
Hang in there, MSI are doing an amazing job, it just takes months and months before your trade in will be complete.
I started mine in November 2016 and got my new computer in feb.
The procedure is as follows :
Tell MSI your interested and give them your invoice, model and make of computer and purchase date.
They will get back to you with an offer and a list of computers for exchange, you should really accept this as MSI wont really budge from this and trying to
haggle will only delay your transaction by weeks if not months.
When you accept they will send you a form which you need to sign and return.
After this they will send you details to send your computer back to MSI and then
MSI will then reevaluate and check your computer for damage or missing parts.
They will then send you an invoice which you will need to pay, depending on region its bank transfer or credit card.
When they have the money they will eventual send you a new computer.
In between all this they have to communicate between different international MSI departments.
This is why its taking so long, they are also inundated with emails daily, so it will take time for them to get back to you.
Remember be polite as they are only people like me and you doing their jobs.
They will eventually get back to you and the whole process does take a very long time.hmscott likes this. -
I did the cross shipping, because being out of a laptop for 2 weeks was unacceptable. Fortunately I had a credit card that could eat the full cost of a GT73.
MSI also looked out for me after they inspected my laptop, and didn't charge me for any of the physical damage it had, meaning I got the full refund.hmscott likes this. -
I have finally got my email notice and offer, I plan to respond as I want to ensure what I am seeing price wise is correct , below is what I am interested in based on what I am able to afford. Of course I could spend more money but I can not.
My trade in machine is an MSI GT7 2QE-1666 w 980M purchased Aug 2016. I have inquired on these 3 options and I am considering either #1 or #3 as they are the new Kaby Lake models
1) GT72VR Dominator -449 w GTX 1060 *NEW = $400 upgrade cost (Kaby Lake) (256 M.2 SSD offered) 120hz
2) GT72VR Dominator Pro-257 w GTX 1070 = $700 upgrade cost (Skylake based)
(There is also this option for $700 GT72VR Dominator -032 G Sync w 32GB DDR4, 1060GTX, i7 6700 , 512 M.2 SATA , 1TB)
3) GT72VR Dominator Pro-450 w GTX1070 *NEW = $550 (Kaby Lake) (128 M.2 SSD, offered) 120hz
I am really on the fence, to upgrade my 980M to a 1060 it will cost me more and involve work and void my warranty.
Taking one of the trade in options:
I gain:
DDR4, NVME support, VR support , Kaby Lake w #1 or #3 option
I lose:
4 M.2 sata ports, raid ability I believe & switchable graphics & potentially G Sync if I opt for #1
For $400 I am almost sold as it is not too much outlay. I dont think there is really any room for negotiation, i literally replied to their email within 35 minutes of receiving it, now we will have to say how long I wait for their reply to confirm my questions .
If I stretch $150 I get a 1070GTX & G Sync but give up some size in SSD. Whichever option I select I have to use system as is before I can upgrade either SSD. Both are 120hz panels and use the same mainboard, I am trying to find out if these units at least support a second M.2 ssd or 2nd pcie nvme ssd
If I wanted 2 m.2 slots one has to step to GT73VR-017 Titan for $900, give your head a shakeLast edited: Mar 1, 2017 -
Sorry but how's it amazing if the program is not even worldwide?briedfox, tiliarou, cisco kidd and 1 other person like this.

If its not worldwide, then that suck`s, msi is a global company and should include its trade in for everyone.

I really hope the next generation of msi laptops gets rid of dual power bricks or picks up a mid height mechanical kb for the gt73 lineup.
Just not enough to entice me in to upgrading from my gt80 yet, and the dual 980m's are still going strong.

@cisco kidd I also received my email today after 120 days!
I ended up deciding to upgrade the GT80 2QE (SLI-009) to GT83VR SLI-213 for $2150. Hoping the process is smooth. Glad to finally have the ball rolling.cisco kidd and MiSJAH like this. -
Holy fak that's a huge upgrade, I would be happy with the Gt80, lol. However I have not had a reply since aI responded back to make sure I understood my pricing options for what I am able to afford to upgrade to., I will probably remain in the Gt72 series of some sort, would love to stretch to the 73 series but all is good. Glad to hear you have made your decision and are rocking it!!
How long did you own the current GT80? -
I received the GT80 in March of 2015. I'm about 3 weeks away from having it 2 years.
Yeah same here, no reply since Wed. At least we finally received a reply.... hope you get your questions answered soon. -
Remember, there is still a class action lawsuit going strong!

But the DDPP is still investigating this... -
Is this still going on, the last step I had was nov/dec and that was them asking me which upgrade I'd want and the 5 questions since then I have heard nothing.

Last I heard on it, they are still accepting submissions within the US, even though it is after the original ending date. Couldn't hurt to send the email in just to find out.

Any word for you yet, had hoped they could fire back a reply with my questions answered and then I could move forward
