The unit being functional has little to do with the warranty. My MSI GX660R that I sold to my friend is from 2010 and it is entirely functional except for the battery (for obvious reasons). My GT60 from 2013 is also functional. This deal is aplicable as long as you have a model that is affected, and they will honor it for that fact. If you don't have a functional unit from 2015 to this year, then I am afraid it has little to do with MSI offering the trade in or not.

Plus the offer is also available for the next gen GPUs, so you are actually capable of not using the trade in right now and instead wait for the next gen.

Of course, all of this I am mentioning, only applies to USA as I am not versed in the details for the rest of regions. Some regions don't really have good offers at all :(

They should. Some users performed the upgrade via this way. I personally took the long route of sending my machine, then verification, then they shipped it back.

I doubt it will get anywhere, because there are many ways to dispute the information given. But if it does pan out, it will be going for a while and you will be hear of it. Plus the settlement will most likely be in another year or more. The settlement probably won't benefit users but as long as something good comes out of it. To give you an idea, the settlement might come after the trade in program finishes, so it can be as late as after the next-next gen GPUs are here.

I disagree completely with the lawsuit but good thing everyone is free to pursue their beliefs.

As long as you have a verifiable purchase receipt/invoice or the like that was/is valid even for the MSI warranty registration, as well as if you are already registered in the page, you should be applicable. But it will all depend on exactly what they settle, because it can settle with a similar trade in option, a GPU upgrade, perhaps even money, so in some cases yeah, you probably will need to have the machine in your possession.

My point about the warranty is that I dont want to wait until it doesnt work and its out of warranty, so Im stuck with a laptop that doesnt work, so I cant sell it, nor can I do the trade in, because it specifically states that the unit must be functional. My last MSI laptop required repairs twice under the warranty period, so yeah it is kind of a big deal. I'm happy that you have had good luck with your laptop, but that doesn't mean that things don't happen.

    So, I'm trying to work this upgrade program; I have the original GT72 2QE - i7 4710HQ, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SDD (4xRaid 0), 1TB HDD, 980M.

I saw there offers and read through here and I'm slightly foggy:
So, the GT72VR they offer as equivalent is a downgrade essentially in bare features and would lose me the MUX switch? (which sucks cause I love that thing)
And they'd want me to pay more for a GT73VR to keep my essential bare bones features?

I'd honestly give up some of that RAM/HDD/SDD before giving up the MUX switch. Are they willing to work with me on this? Or can I aspect them to try and have me needlessly give up something for nothing when this is suppose to be an 'upgrade as if only upgrading the GPU'?

I understand that I'm also essentially getting a better CPU, but I'd hate for them to try and shaft me on the actual features that made me pay nearly 3k for this thing (mux switch, ssd x 4, tb hdd, ect...)

You should contact them directly. Offers made here do not necessarily represent what they will offer you. the higher end model you have, the better the offer will be. You can step up or down to different models too.

They will NOT work with you on a custom build so please don't hold your breath on that. I tried negotiating different trade-in options for months. Your choices are restricted to the models they have available that match up against the price lists.

If they did not drop the prices any, I would hold out for the next GPU release rather than buy into this gen so deep into its life cycle.

I really wish custom builds were an option, because I would love me a GT83 with a single GTX 1080 and a single power brick.

There is no way to dispute facts: you advertise something, it's a commercial promise, if you don't deliver what you advertised, it's breaking the law (at least in France).
Other considerations have no value in front of the law, whether or not you had problem with your partners/suppliers has nothing to do with it from the customer point of view.
If you broke the law, you can be pursued in front of a civil court and in front of a criminal (penal in Europe) court. The criminal court is here to punish and indemnify the plaintif (civil party).
The amount of the reparation should at least be equal to the amount of purchase. The trade in program has nothing to do with reparation. It's a amicable settlement that everybody is free to accept or refuse.
And I do not seek settlement, I seek the judgment of the judge to condemn MSI, I will not bend to MSI tentative to avoid the judgment.

I don't see why we would not start judicial actions against MSI when the contract was not respected. It is totally normal to seek reparation for a fault committed by a third party and and causing damages to us. If you estimate that the trade in was fair for you, then so be it, and I don't see reason to participate in the lawsuit, however, if it was not a fair deal offered (that's my case and opinion), we shall pursue all ways to obtain what we paid for as advertised.
I will not stop pursuing this even if it take years. I want offender to be punished as they should as per the law.

Two more weeks and two more emails without a reply from MSI. I take it they aren't handing these in the order they were received. It's been over seven months since I submitted my first trade-in form and over four since the second.

To make a very long story short, if you're in the US you're going to have to call them. I went MONTHS without interaction constantly emailing them and finally said screw it, and called (I have TWO laptops that are eligible). That got me an updated list of models (as the original lists are no longer valid) and I submitted a payment. I have however had to call them after every single interaction basically saying "hey you get my email?" That being said, I've not been charged and nothing has been shipped and this was two days ago so....

Also, they were getting my e-mails, because when they responded with the updated list of models it had my most recent "HEY YOU" from a month ago attached to it.

That being said they're really nice about all of it so no complaints there, but e-mail isn't going to get you anywhere.

Well considering their last update on this thread was 2 months ago, saying that they hoped to get all the cases solved by the end of that month is hardly 'nice'. If their instructions state to email and address and then they dont properly monitor it, it is just as bad as the false advertising they made that started all of this. I have filed an official complaint with the CA BBB, and if that fails I will consult a lawyer on what options I have. At this point I am ready to just get a refund and never touch an MSI product again, since they care so little for their customers.

    Is it after creators update?
I had problem when I updated to creators update but my Atmel studio stopped working so tried to roll back update. Ofcourse rollback failed and laptop got stuck on MSI logo while booting (even dots wasn't spinning). Tried repairing using bootable windows 10 flashdrive, without any luck.

However it maganed to fix itself somehow (magic?). All files and programs were in same place as before. Ofcourse I was still stuck with creators update. So instead of rolling back, I've just reinstalled Atmel studio and I am never touching windows 10 roll back feature.

It is very strange that you have such issue after creator's update had been installed.
Have you looked into BIOS & EC update?

It's not necessarily after the creators update. Its been happening for a while and been getting progressively worse. I'm worrying its some sort of electrical/battery/hardware issue. I've been having a few battery "glitches" as of late

Something similar happens to my laptop too but only like once in a few weeks. When I press power button fans start spinning like they should, keyboard backlight turns on but nothing on screen. Then I just press power button again and laptop turns off immediately. Press power button again to turn it on and it turns on like nothing happened.
Its been like this for half a year atleast, but it doesn't bother me since it's like once in few weeks as I've mentioned.

I also previously have had buzzing issues. And my secondary 850 evo 2.5 in has been for the longest time flakey where a continuous read results in it dropping to 0 mb/s for a while picking up, dropping, etc. making copies from/to it take forever.

I originally hypothesized that it was a sata cable issue but sent it to Samsung who promptly returned it saying nothing was wrong with it.

Today I open my laptop and Intel RST goes "Sata 3 has been disconnected" volume... is inaccessible
and when I looked volume E was not there. I also felt the buzzing had reduced greatly (odd). Opened it up today and wiggled the wire (not sure if this is the reason why) and it started working again.

And while the drive is frozen, things accessing it freeze and crash (exept explorer which if you try to open a non indexed folder or go back it will crash)

Just froze again copying a test movie off...

and here is it "disconnected" and not working 30 min ago or so

In my uni you can use AutoCad, MatLab and such programs for free when connected to university network over vpn, but it's soooooo slow. Just get new laptop. Still as a student you will be able to get all the software you need for free while you will be student. Just don't get gt83 since it's too thick. GT73 should be alright for you.

I was considering the 73 but at the college im going to I will need a thin computer and they have a tech center that will handle warranty of only dell and lenovo (so my parents are sort of forcing me to get one of those) and will provide a "interim laptop" if mine breaks and its dell or lenovo. I was going to get a portable laptop (alienware 15 probably).

I'm trying to determine if I should keep/upgrade the GT80 and also take it to college or not.

    @Lumlx what university?

Well I'm from Europe and university is called Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. I'm studying electronic engineering. Honestly I think just sell GT80 and get alienware with 1070. It will be enough for few years. And from my perspective during third and fourth year of studying you won't have much time to even play games. Also you can always give some extra juice to alienware with external graphics amplifier if you will need.

yea. I was thinking about that and I figure that if I took my gt80 it would be mostly as a mobile desktop... I would probably just stick with sli. In order to sell my current one I would have to trade it in... I will be doing computer science with a minor in electrical.

Old good paper and pen. There a lot of schematics and formulas in my studies. It just takes too much time to insert equation or draw some kind of graph using word or any other editing software.
Of course for such subjects where there is no complicated schematics or formulas (like law or economics) I've used tablet with bluetooth keyboard. I think I would drive teacher crazy with mechanical keyboard in GT80 ^^.

Well, another email and two more weeks without a response. I see a few phone numbers on the MSI USA website. Any suggestion of the better choice or just hit the main one and hope to get transferred to the correct place?

I'd really like to upgrade to the GT73VR Titan SLI 4K-423.

File an official complaint with the CA BBB. They responded the same day that the BBB contacted them. Don't wait for them to get around to it, take action. Just don't email them your CC info, they sent me another customers sheet on accident.. lol

Today marked the end of my first upgrade journey. Today I received the refund back to my credit card from the cross shipping. Got exactly what I was quoted so I was pretty happy.
The GT83VR 7RE is a pretty solid machine. Time to head over to that owners lounge. I do have another GT80 but I'm waiting for the 2nd generation upgrade for that one since it was a bit newer than the GT80 I traded.
The only part of this process I didn't like was the really long period of time waiting for the reply from MSI after submission. After that, dealing with the MSI rep was great.
Good luck to the rest of you!

Once they do start the process, it seems they respond faster and all. It is getting in contact with them the first time, and the setup, that takes some time. Good luck!

Good evening everyone, I wanted to know someone has any number that I can call for the trade for my GT80 Titan, that I have been sending mails since December and they have not answered me.

And sent emails to these emails:
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

If someone could help me please, I would be very grateful, I am a very patient guy, but 6 months without a response is much

The upgrade program was offered in the North America originally but seems like they've expanded to several countries. Perhaps you can check with your local office directly to find out more details.

Have you received your replacement and are you satisfied?

I've finally been contacted and actually spoken with someone at MSI about doing a cross-exchange and upgrading in the process.

Good luck man :) Once you are in contact, it is quite a faster process.

Or not :) They are not answering after my contest of the price.
They wanted 1k euro for a slide grade to GT72VR 1060. I updated them with new MSI USA terms, no more answer.
