Unfortunately I asked about the 75vr's and was told they will not be included on this round of trade ins.
Just wanted to let you know I got my offer reviewed and they sent me back a literal offer I cannot refuse.
My suggestion would be to decide on a model you can live with and do some price research with camelcamelcamel.com and highlight the differences between models as much as you can plus price it is commonly being listed at on amazon. Tell them how you are feeling taken advantage of by the trade in program and they will make you a much better offer. This will be better for you when the volta trade in's come as you will have a newer machine that is valued much higher than your 2 gen or older notebook.
At least that is my take on it. Try as hard as you can for the 75vr model you want. You never know just try, I did and it turned out better than I even dreamed by a lot. Be polite and make them want to help you. really focus on how you feel like they are taking advantage of you with the trade in offers, if you don't make a fuss they will happily sell it to you at max price. So make a fuss but still be polite and treat them like humans. It helps a ton.
-
Yeah, It seems GT75 are not up for the program, only up to GT73.
Glad you managed to get a good deal. Various users managed to get good deals, so I am sure that with proper skills you can bargain away. Being polite can get you quite far, and in my general experience, they do try (at least from the US branch).
What I am feeling though, is that the 2nd gen might take quite a while before it appears.
On a completely different note, I saw my first GT72 machine used at a power plant haha, some engineers seem to like having power on the go

I have sent about half a dozen recent emails to Ming and USGTradein emails and have heard back nothing. I will now be sending a new email daily until I get a reply.
Calls went to voicemail.
Who did you work with? And what did you trade in and receive? -
I finally heard back. They said all of my email has been going to the spam folder...
Gt75vr not an option, which confuses me because an earlier email said we could pick anything from the GT series lineup. Granted, this was before the 75, but still...
My trade in model is out of stock. They offered me 800 and my gt80vr sli-001 to move into a gt73vr sli-058, which is a 1070 sli model. It was a *special price*.
GT73VR Titan Pro w/GTX 1080 $650 GT73VR TITAN PRO-865*New

GT83VR Titan SLI w/GTX 1080 $2350 GT83VR TITAN SLI-252*New -
Ok this post helped me with what I was asking about in your email. I guess the sli-201 in your message was a typo.
If I'm correct you have the first version titan. With the 4720 hq, 16gbs of ram, dual 980ms, and 1tb with 256gb ssd.
If I were you, I'd try to get em down to $500 for the gt73vr. The keyboard on it is great for a non mechanical. Hands down best "chiclet" style keyboard i've had the pleasure of using. Also it is so much lighter than my old gt80 which is a super plus. The 2 power bricks are kind of annoying, but not as big of a deal as I thought they would be. Together they're about the size and weight as the single gt80 power brick I had. Personally I went with this model because the specs are just awesome 64gbs ddr4 and 512gb ssd compared to the standard 16 gb ddr4 and 256gb ssd is a huge step up and made it pretty worth it to me.
I'll send you a message back and detail how I approached getting my price down.
For full disclosure I ended up getting my gt73vr sli-058 for $300.Last edited: Sep 29, 2017MiSJAH likes this. -

Well, after additional talks, I will be taking the trade-in for a GT75VR Titan Pro-202. I think this is a special case, because I was requesting a single power brick with mechanical keyboard and a GTX1080 when this program first kicked off and haven't shut up about it. The MSRP on the GT75VR 202 is 2799.99, and the trade-in cost for this is $700 + my GT80S Titan SLI-101.
I also had an offer to move into the GT73VR Titan SLI-058 for $800 and the MSRP on that device I believe is $3299. The GT75VR however better meets my lifestyle needs. I will likely be adding my own m.2 SSD's and some more RAM. I hope I enjoy the GT75VR.Beemo, Kevin@GenTechPC and MiSJAH like this. -
To Those that are still trying. Don't give up. I started emailing in July and didn't hear back until Mid september. I had a GT72QE and traded it and $650.00 for a GT72V. The original offer was for +$700 but I called Ming and asked him some questions I had and said "Hey Ming, my friends seem to be getting deals, so can you give me $50.00 off so I feel good about it" and he said no problem. I probably could have done better, but to be honest, this seemed fair to me. After all, I had the computer for a year and the new one is better. If you are just beginning your Trade in, don't worry like I did. It takes some time, my trade in number was like 607 and the only person I have seen referred to on here is "Ming" and that is who I dealt with so I think he is by himself. He is a great guy. Be polite and he will take care of you! Good Luck!

how long did it take to get your cards charged and shipping from the time that you filled out the purchase agreement and sent it back?

An excellent deal. The one main drawback of the GT73 line was the lack of a mechanical keyboard, after experiencing the GT80. Have fun with your new toy

What news for this? I'm also interested in the GT75VR but the last email I got from MSI was in July and there is no GT75VR in the trade-in chart. Would you kindly send me a PM of the email of MSI rep that you talked to.
Also I would like to know if anyone had any idea if you trade-in e.g MSI GT80S Titan (Dual GTX 980m) now for e.g MSI GT73VR (GTX 1070) is it possible to trade that MSI GT73VR for the next gen. MSI models coming out in 2018? Or is this one time trade-in only? -
How did you get in contact via phone? Please PM me the number.
-
1. You will still be able to trade in for the Volta gen.
2. I doubt you will get a GT75VR unless you beg for it like I did. I already stated that I believe the only reason I got it was because I basically asked for this exact build last November and they all of my email from NOV to now had been going to the SPAM inbox. If you are nice, and ask Ming to take it back to the manager they might offer you a GT75VR as well, but see #3.
3. This was also NOT the most cost-effective upgrade, the GT73VR with the dual 1070's was and that device has an MSRP of $3299 (vs my GT75VR MSRP of $2799), so you should get better pricing next gen, as well. It was also a much better spec'd laptop aside from CPU.
My GT75VR arrived 10 minutes ago. I am currently setting it up and registering the warranty. I can't do a whole lot until my SSD arrives on Monday, since it is pretty slow with the 7200 1TB drive.Beemo likes this. -

Ming has a phone number in every email. I've never been able to actually get Ming on the phone and called about 30 times at various times throughout the day multiple days.
I think I was a special case with the GT75. They also offered me a trade-in to the GT73VR SLI-058 for $800. That was by far the best deal MSRP wise and that laptop was loaded out compared to the GT75 I took with 16gigs Ram and NO SSD.Beemo and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -
@spurst
Is the laptop brand new and comes in a factory sealed box when you received it? And is the seal and the bottom of the laptop intact? How come they did not included an SSD as they always do when you buy it at full retail price. Did MSI intentionally removed the SSD before shipping it out to you?
Edit:
I guess the GT75VR Pro-202: https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GT75VR-Titan/Specification does not have an SSD.Last edited: Oct 16, 2017 -
Yes everything comes brand new and sealed. You will not get any SWAG/accessories like the resellers offer - so don't expect a backpack, toy dragon, mouse, headphones, etc. I was really hoping for a new backpack, but my old one will fit this laptop since it is *slightly* smaller.
I traded my GT80 for the lowest bottom of the barrel GT75VR they offer - I already had 16GB spare ram and it was $175 for a Samsung 960 500GB SSD. As I posted previously, the best *deal* MSRP wise was the GT73VR SLI-058 they offered for $800. That machine was loaded out with 64GB ram and 2x 256 SSD's + 1TB storage drive, but would have cost me $100 more and lacked a mechanical keyboard and has dual power bricks which was a deal-breaker for me, since I travel with my laptop like once or twice a week, so I do need some degree of portability. -
I see.
I agree that the GT73VR w/GTX 1070 SLI is the best deal for $800, but yeah like you said the two power bricks is just too much to carry around plus the heat it produces.
My next option would probably be the GT73VR for $950 Titan Pro-872 because it's got 32GB of RAM and a RAID0 2x 512GB M.2 SSD +1TB HDD. -
The 8xx series GT73 neutered to death compared to 4xx series GT73

After talking to Ming they've come to a conclusion to open up the GT75VR line under a condition:
Condition for trading in for GT75VR
-Customer will have to forfeit 2nd Generation GPU Trade In. Customer will no longer qualify for our GTX 11xx GPU Trade in Program.
-GT75VR Laptop only comes with standard 1 year Limited warranty (Include 1 Year Global).Last edited: Oct 19, 2017Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
That is great news for anyone who wants the GT75VR.
So far, I really like the GT75VR. It seems to be a very solid design, and while I will miss an optical drive, that is easily solved through an external Blu Ray drive.Beemo and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -
But you are no longer qualified for the 2nd generation trade in program. I don't know why they make this one so hard to get at first then make it tradeable but under a certain condition...is the GT75VR really that special?Last edited: Oct 19, 2017
-
You are essentially taking an early Gen 2 trade in. You don't have to take the GT75VR trade. It is optional. As I already said, the GT73VR 058 was the best "deal".
-
I understand now why it's no longer qualified for the 2nd gen. trade in program. The 73VR 058 is loaded for bear but those two power bricks...I fink I'm gonna get crushed because a I'm relatively small person. I also find the micro stutter in SLI setup to be annoying, the reason why I'm tossing my GT80S 980M SLI out of the window.

FWIW, I was told that my GT75VR will have a full 2 year warranty - I have it in writing via email and I specifically asked. I also offered to skip my 2nd upgrade since they were making a special accommodation to fit my needs, but that was not one of the terms they required when I accepted my GT75VR Trade-in.
It sounds like they are now formalizing some type of process for those users who want a GT75VR. From my perspective, the GT75VR was the first model they offered that met my needs of a replacement given my requirements at the start of the program (single power brick, GTX1080, mechanical keyboard).
Given the costs and headache involved, I will likely still skip that 2nd trade-in unless the next round is truly amazing. I only game at 1080p, so the GTX 1080 is enough for my needs at this time. The only reason I could possibly see myself going for another trade if is they get a stronger single power brick, and then I may reconsider the GT83VR as a viable option. -
Just curious - why isn't it - what did they tell you?
-
I guess you're lucky to have that now and still qualified for the 2nd gen. trade in program. and if something bad happen (I hope none) you're still covered with 2 year warranty.
They didn't tell me why.
Tbh, I'm at the fence right now. It's either I get any of the GT73VR that they offer now and trade it later on for the 2nd gen. The problem with this is that I don't live in the U.S so I'm sending it to someone that I know for $200 shipping fee and another $200 + Tax ($300 estimate) on it's way back here or I get the GT75VR now but worried that If they offer a lot better with their 2nd gen. trade in program I'm no longer qualified.
P.S
I already sent the laptop 2 weeks ago in the U.S because it needs repair, some defect somewhere in the laptop and it's covered with MSI warranty service. After it gets repaired it will be sent to someone that I know in the U.S until I decide what to do next.Last edited: Oct 19, 2017 -
you're already having issues and it is in warranty repair services. At the very least I would take the trade and refresh your warranty period. You can also take a GT73VR with a single 1080 GTX that will only need 1 power brick. Were I in your shoes, I would want something with 2 years warranty coverage and a 6th gen CPU so you get better pricing on the trade. There is room to negotiate on the remaining 6th gen devices.
Had I been offered only a 1 yr warranty or they truly required me to skip my 2nd upgrade I might have picked the GT73VR SLI-058. -
Based on what is written in all the MSI reseller sites e.g HIDevolution and XoticPC all the models only have 1 year warranty.
Since I don't like having two power bricks, 4K display and SLI setup, I've narrowed down my choices (downsides highlighted in red):
GT73VR Titan Pro-865: FHD, GTX 1080, i7-7700HQ, 32GB memory, 512GB M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD, 1TB HDD, 1 yr. MSI + Global Warranty = $650
GT73VR Titan Pro-872: FHD, GTX 1080, i7-7820HK, 32GB memory, RAID 0 (2x 512GB M.2 SATA SSD, 1TB HDD, 1 yr. MSI + Global Warranty = $950
GT75VR Titan Pro-202: You know the specs, 1 yr. MSI + Global Warranty, Adios 2nd gen. trade in program = $700
I already have 2 x 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws 2666Mhz RAM, 120GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD, 2TB Seagate Firecuda SSHD. So pretty much the stock memory and storage are gonna get replaced.Last edited: Oct 19, 2017 -

I emailed him back to see if there are any discounts available. I emailed him last fall and never heard back and then again at the beginning of this month. -
I had gotten my email recently. It took 3 days from when I responded for him to respond back and that happened on two separate emails going back and forth.. response took 3 days. Of course it all depends on whats going on, but it's odd that he has not responded to you at all. I also asked about a discount.. not in straight words.. but in a "I'm losing my mechanical keyboard just to get an upgrade on a GPU that I should have been able to do from the start" etc etc.. and he responded that prices are firm and hes never been approved for a price drop. So that's my situation.
-
Today he answered my email and told me a discount isn't available, but he did offer the following for $200:
GT62 DOMINATOR GSYNC i7-7700/GTX1060/16GB/256G+1T/Win10
MSI GT62 Dominator 15.6" G-Sync Desktop Performance Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7-7700HQ GTX1060 16GB DDR4 256GB SSD +1TB Win10 VR Ready
I'm thinking about doing the trade in. It'll be a smaller screen, but g-sync will still be there and a gtx 1060 6GB. -
Ask MSI to check if they can offer you a GT62 with a 1070 and a good price. The natural update to your GPU to have a very good jump in performance will be a 1070. Maybe they can get you one for less than 500.
They initially offered you a GT73 with 1070 for 700, so a GT62 with a 1070 would be a good compromise to not spend so much in the models with SLI or 1080 that seem expensive enough.
Otherwise, the 1060 is still an upgrade, just not as big. -
G-Sync would be great, but I know for me I couldn't drop down to that size screen.
-
Hey all. Newcomer to the thread.
I have a gt72s 6qe (980m) and I literally learned about this upgrade debacle 2 days ago as I was trying to source out the cause of a sudden power failure of my laptop under load. It ended up being some unregistered temperature spikes due to old paste on the GPU that subsequently fixed last night
(yay for temps of 15c lower and no wonky graphs anymore!).
I sent an email to MSI yesterday requesting that I be included in this program. I'm the original owner of my laptop but for whatever reason after I registered I was never notified of this from MSI. I'm guessing they were purposefully not proactive about it.
Am I too late to the game for my upgrade request? Should I just go to eBay and buy a 1070? Do I need a new heat sink for that 1070?
I'm trying to work through 480 pages of thread but I was hoping maybe one of you folks that have been with this since near the beginning could give me the TLDR.
What would be my best bet as of this point?MiSJAH likes this. -
As far as I'm aware the reason why this upgrade is happening is because they can not honor their promise of us being able to upgrade into the 10xx line of video cards like we were originally supposed to be able to do. So you won't be able to do that. The best thing you can do, I would say, is just wait until you hear from Ming and get your options and see if any of them meet your satisfaction.
-
I ended up taking him up on the offer and I shipped my laptop on Monday. It should get to them by Friday and I'll report back once I get the new laptop. For the people who haven't done this yet, there still seems to be time to join the upgrade program.hmscott likes this.
-
Just got an email from Ming this evening and filled out the form. I can confirm that the trade-in program as of now is still being honored.
We *can* upgrade the video card, but it takes either a different heat sink or a modification of the existing one in order to put a gtx1070 into the PC (it's about $630 now for an MXM 1070 that fits).
I'd honestly just rather have MSI give me a new box, though. For the same money I can get all new tech and a new warranty, so why not?hmscott likes this. -
What are the opinions on MSI VR Ready GT73VR Titan SLI-058 (Offered at $900) vs MSI GT73VR TITAN PRO-872 (Offered at $1000). I don't care about weight involved I'm just curious what the better deal turns out to be vs performance with gaming and price. I imagine the SLI has better total GPU performance but has the lesser processor. However I imagine that for gaming I wouldn't need the increased processing power?
Also has anyone tried to ask for an 18' with a full sized keyboard for trade? I love my full sized mechanical keyboard in my GT80.Last edited: Nov 2, 2017
