I did end up asking about the 18' options and were given these options:

    GT83VR TITAN SLI-253

    GT83VR TITAN SLI-213

    GT83VR TITAN SLI-252

    GT83VR TITAN SLI-212

However I decided I'd rather have the 120hz screen instead of the IPS screen.

Has anyone gotten any wiggle room on the pricing?

Some were able to get a little more by providing reasonable justification. You would have a better leverage if their offer is somewhat inferior than your system.

When you guys turn in your laptops do you use anything special to format the drives? I imagine most people here give some thought to security when you have to turn in hard drives. Or maybe I'm paranoid :D

The notebooks that are being offered in the trade-in program are brand new or refurbished?

You can go the extra mile and write 0s and 1s then reinstalling the OS if you'd like. I personally used my own SSD so I just swapped back to the drive when sending it back and just used an image they gave me. For this laptop if I'm going to upgrade it I'll just swap back to the drive they gave me and take out the ones I added.

They are brand new, new box and packaging/non registered/stickers intact etc...

We ship brand new laptops as part of our Trade in Program. You can trade any MSI, Clevo or AW laptop into one of our GPU- and CPU- upgradeable Coffee Lake laptops. Check our website for details under PROGRAMS.

They are brand new. I just received my trade-in laptop and all seals are there and the notebook is indeed new. After not having a laptop for a few weeks, I must say that i didn't really miss it. The main reason I did the trade in (besides a newer GPU) was because my previous laptop had dead/stuck pixels that weren't covered under warranty.

    So i had a msi 72s 6qe dominator pro G (980m)

    I traded it in for a GT73VR Titan-017 for $700
Filled out the CC trade in form. Sent my 72s to the msi head quarters address..

Any idea on time frame to receive new laptop. Also do you think this was worth the money?

My old specs where 1tb ssd. 32gb mem and normal stock stuff.

ya i got a tracking number and all the information from MSI. (last week)

The trade in program doesn't have a date in which is expires. Only prices change base on what models you trade for. I'm 99% sure that you can only trade up 2 times.

    I traded in my msi 72s 6qe (dead motherboard) for a msi 73vr Titan-017 for $700.

There is no deadline to trade in your laptop once you have submitted the initial trade-in form to us. However, the upgrade cost may increase if you wait too long and our current models are discontinued for newer models that may be of higher in price.

You may choose to skip the current GTX 10 series trade-in program and wait for the GTX 11 series trade-in program, but do so at your own discretion because we will not know of any details about the GTX 11 series trade-in program until the GTX 11 series GPUs are actually released. Participating in this current trade-in program does not mean you will be disqualified for the next trade-in. You will still be eligible for the GTX 11 series trade-in program either way.

Straight from the horses mouth... Nowhere in there says that the trade in program is over. Until a official release statement is put out there offer still stands for a gpu upgrade offer for there products.

Don't misinterpret what MSI is saying.

You must have originally purchased a qualifying model to take advantage of the trade in program. It only covers those earlier laptops that were advertised to have a guaranteed GPU upgrade path for the next 2 generations. Those would be models previous to GTX 10 series (Pascal). There is no trade in program if you originally purchased a GTX 10 series MSI laptop.

    lets see...

GTX 10 series to GTX 11 series .... gtx11 doesnt exist yet.
GTX 9 series to GTX 10 series... trade in program

some inside sources (friends at msi) there creating a different program for the gtx10 to gtx11 upgrade program.

If you started with a GTX 9 series, you can go to 10, and 11, with the upgrade program.

If you started with GTX 10 series, you can go nowhere with the upgrade program because there is no upgrade program.

Just wondering what the word is on trading up from a GT73VR 7RE w 7820HK and 1070GTX w 16GB DDR4 and 1 TB HD, I have since upgraded to 960 Evo for OS and replaced the 1 TB with a 1 TB Hybrid SHD. I never even used the original factory 1TB since receiving.

I have had the unit now 1 year and have given thought to trading in on an 8 series but wonder if it is really worth it or wait until the 11 series and do then. Still have approximately 14 mths warranty remaining

They promised 2 generations of GPU so I don't think the warranty will matter.

I would personally wait for the 11 series. The CPU bump is really nice and helps all around but unless you need the extra CPU power, a CPU+GPU upgrade would be ideal.

The trade in program was for 2 generations, but I believe you can only do it once, so if you have already traded up, that is it.

It would be best to contact MSI directly to confirm.

This is straight from the first post. Which is the way i always understood it to be.

    Hi Scott,

If you decide to opt in for the 1st gen upgrade, you will still be able to upgrade for 2nd gen.

yeah as mentioned above I believe there is a second upgrade. I think with what I currently have it is just smarter to wait for 11 series over just a cpu bump

Yeah there was two, some people actually did GT72 -> GT73 -> GT75 which then they're already done regardless of the GPU generation. While those people that went GT72 -> GT73 can opt for whatever generation is next.

    So its either:
    opt in 2nd gen:
    GT72 (900) -> GT73 (1000) -> GT75 (1100?)

    or opt out 2nd gen:
    GT72 (900) -> GT73 (1000) -> GT75 (1000)
    GT72 (900) -> GT75 (1000)

Thats how I read it and my understanding at the beginning of the trade program correct me if im wrong xD

The upgrades are only based around GPU generations, yeah? Didn't we establish that from day one with no debating?

I doubt MSI would even let you try to burn an upgrade for the sake of getting a Coffee Lake CPU. Or maybe they would gladly, because that would be a really freaking dumb oops I mean shortsighted decision.

If they don't have replacement available which they usually do, or they sometimes can issue partial refunds if they run out of stock. Less likely the route with an upgrade to a newer generation.

Most likely if they run out of GT73VR they will offer GT75VR.. but they would probably go off MSRP prices w/ depreciation of old laptop of course. So dont quote me on this but an example would be like say you had a GT72 9xx, they offer you a GT75VR.. then you would maybe have to pay like $1300-1500 on top of your laptop value lol I dunno, I would email them to clarify for those asking.

Well, yeah. GT72 -> Pascal got way more value than a person will if they skipped that upgrade to do GT72 -> Turing.

MSI flat out said that would be the case. The 900M laptops lose value by the day.

    hi lads I own a GT7S-6QE it comes with a GTX 980M 4GB g-sync.... it just shorted....
two main questions for you pros:
1/ is it possible to identify the faulty component on the GTX980M ( i got a hot air soldering station) and how?
2: I plan to buy a 1060 from msi (MS-1W0U1) with g-sync, will i be able to keep g-sync functionnality with a MSI g-sync card?

Many many thanks in advance lads

We offer both GTX 1060 and 1070 MXM3 upgrade kits just in case if you are planning upgrades. Both are G-sync so you should be able to get G-sync working.

You will loose Gsync on the laptop screen if you upgrade to any Pascal GPU due to the license cookie will no longer match.

G-Sync on external displays will work like normal on G-Sync enabled screens.

There is also the other side of the coin the constant need to install modded GPU drivers which on a 64bit is mean disabling the Driver Signature Enforcement (DSE).

Is there any news on the next gpu series to come which I assume will be 1100 series. I am now getting to about 13mths warranty remaining off the original 27, hoping we see an option of upgrade w next gen GPU. What current CPU is equal or better than 7820HK that MSI could offer w and 1100 series GPU in 7* series?

    I would even consider 7820HK w 1100 series GPU to save $$

On June 5, Nvidia’s own CEO Jensen said we wouldn’t see the next GeForce GPU for “a long time” at this year’s Computex. He wouldn’t be drawn on exactly how long “a long time” actually meant, but it certainly doesn’t sound like Turing will be here in just a couple of months time.

This makes me worried with the length of time in between that MSI will use it to there advantage and try to get away with not holding up the Upgrade.

Yes I hope the next gpu release does not put us outside of a trade in window. I guess other option is to sell privately. However to date happy w unit but always looking for future options

Yes I've contacted MSI and the last time they responded to my emails was in May of 2017 letting me know that they were back logged and it would take 1-2 months to get to me.
That email sent in May of 2017 was the last time they emailed me back.
