Why wait that long for a reply?
If they said 1-2 months...reply at 2 months...then keep replying until you get your answer.
This applies to all manufacturers, not just MSI.

Because I was out of the country on a deployment and only got back recently.
So now starting back up the process to get my laptop exchanged. But like I said may of last year was the last time they responded to me.. I have sent several emails after that date and none of them were replied to. Which is why I've filled complaints against them in hopes to get their attention because emails alone aren't doing the trick.hmscott likes this. -
We'll have hopefully good news.
The rep that handles the MSI facebFac page just responded to me and is forwaringf the information to their supervisor -

Just bug them until they reply, but if they are going to take care of you that is a good sign.

Well msi just offered me a $1800 credit which is over $800 less than what I paid for my laptop and won't get me a gt83vr w/SLI gtx1080 cards.
Original offer was $2000 for the gt83vr GTX 1080 SLI laptop plus me shipping mine in.
The MSI rep said that thenotithe o upgrade program reached it's time limit which I have emails saying that there was no time limit once approved.
Also MSI took over a year now to respond to me for the upgrade program.
Trying to figure out what to do next already filed the complaints with the ftc and BBB.
At this rate if they won't offer me the original agreement of $2000 for the gt83 vr with 1080's . Thinking about asking for. A full refund. Dunno if that would workout or not. Anyone have similar situations or expereienes with them? -
Is there an upcoming GT73 tradeup program to be announced. Is there any news about upcoming GTX 11** series?
Were the GT73 series warrantied only for 1 yr plus the additionjal 3 mths if registered online with MSI? I had always thought the warranty period was 2 yrs plus the 3. Did the upgrade option not require that the laptop had to be within warranty to qualify?Last edited: Sep 25, 2018 -
Is there any chance you still have the MSI's reps email/ phone number. I wanted to inquire in a couple things. I was just recently told warranty was just one yr plus the 3. I had always thought we got 2 yrs. So instead of having 9.5 mths left I have zero? Wtf, not that I need warranty at moment but what about 2 nd upgrade? Doubt there will be one w lawsuit

I don't think that gt73vr is eligible for trade up program. It never was advertised as mxm upgradable laptop. Only gt72 and gt80 laptops should be eligible for trade up program which is limited to usa and uk.

Warranty terms and conditions have always been the same.
Warranty & ADC are overlapped on the 1st year, and the most you can get is 2-year on the standard warranty.
ADC requires registration within first 30 days of purchase to activate, if you miss it you lose it.
https://us.msi.com/page/warranty
Global Warranty period : 1 year base-on purchase date.
2 year Limited warranty (Include 1 Year Global) on most models.
1 year Limited warranty (Include 1 Year Global) on select models.hmscott likes this. -

Yup, that's correct. MSI made the trade up program for those machines because they originally advertised it to be upgrade-able but the plan got messed up when Nvidia decided to change the design.
Customers were given chances to upgrade their systems to newer generations. But now the offer had already passed reasonable time frame so it's no longer offered. This offer was never meant to be available for any new machines from newer generations.hmscott likes this. -
Thanks I have been trying to figure out what products qualified for the "2 year Limited warranty (Include 1 Year Global) on most models" I did obtain the additional 3 mths warranty. So if I had 15 it is now finished. I had hoped there would be a second upgrade option but appears I understood the program wrong
On another note off hand what is/are the memory modules used in the GT73 if configured with 2x8 gb 2400, is it Kingston branded, I am interested to up mine to 32gb -

To get a final determination of your eligibility, go to
http://event.msicomputer.com/usagttradein/
Download the form, complete it and submit it according to the instructions. MSI will then send a follow-up email with more details about the program and how to proceed.hmscott likes this. -

You can either go up to 32 or 64GB using 2 or 4 modules.
DDR4 2400MHz
DDR4 2800MHz
DDR4 3200MHz
Memory modules are not consistent from one shipment to another, they can be either Kingston or SK Hynix. -

It mentioned about deadline which is 31st December 2016. But doesn't hurt to try it anyways.

I'm very late to the party, but I have a GT80s 6QF, was looking to upgrade the GPUs only to find out about this huge fiasco. I bought this to replace my broken down desktop, but since day one it has been an unpleasant experience. I had what they call a "Mura" effect on my LCD from the first day, eventually after a month they replaced the screen only, a year later something broke and fell into the fan, and 2 months back the motherboard fried.
I bought it like everyone else for the upgrade-ability, which was a lie. Unfortunately, MSI Australia replied to my retailer when asked about the upgrades or a trade-in program like the one in the US & UK:
""It is not available in Australia. MSI Australia never advertised or promised that it will support GTX 10 series graphics. Cannot be upgraded to the 10series as NVIDIA had made too much changes in the circuitry design and power requirements. Thank you"
MSI Australia seems to be the lowest of the low, seems my retailer is also wanting to wash their hands of me despite me referring quite a bit of business to them, which I now regret. -
I had some communication with the rep that did my upgrade and I asked about the second upgrade, he replied there will be another, I question that , but I will wait and see to date my GT73VR w 1070 has been a tank with no ssiues

Has anyone used their 2nd upgrade to the RTX series? I was toying around with the idea but my GT 73vr GTX 1070 has been solid. The only thing I worry about is my current laptop not being under warranty.
hmscott likes this. -
It wasn't 2 trade-ins. From the PDF they sent: *Once you trade in your laptop with us, you will NOT be eligible to trade in your laptop again*
I waited for the 20 series but was told:
1) They aren't going to do an SLI laptop - I have a GT80 2QE which is an SLI laptop so no 2080 SLI replacement.
2) None of the models on the list aren't available - From the e-mail I received (dated 2/25/19):
" Please note that we currently do not have enough inventory to support any RTX model trade in, so if you’re only interested in trading in for a RTX model, please contact me again in 2-3 months"I replied back asking how, knowing that there were people waiting to do the trade-in, they didn't have inventory. No answer. -
What PDF was that? I have saved documents from the initiation of the trade in program with this quote: "The trade-in is optional at the will of the customers. Customers can skip/accept the 1st gen upgrade and still qualify to take the 2nd generations upgrade. We are trying to keep our promises to our loyal users."
I've also already confirmed with the rep that I am allowed to do a 2nd trade if I would like.
They don't have the inventory because they are fulfilling the retailer demands for the initial launch of the RTX based laptops. Once the launch phase is completed they intend to open up the trade in program. I was also quoted 2 to 3 months.Kevin@GenTechPC and twistedmr like this. -
On the first page under the initial E-mail responses, MSI replied
I must have read that wrong. So it means you either get the 1st GPU GTX or you can wait for the now released "2nd" RTX series?
Yeah, That's what I thought. I assume the contact person is the some from a few years ago? I probably should fire off an e-mail to them or call. -
Yeah it's still the same person, assuming you are US based. I'd send you a PM but it's not letting me. I think you have your profile locked.twistedmr likes this.
-
Yes, I am US. I have saved my original correspondence with them so I will inquire next week. I have to say my current laptop has been fantastic. The only problem I have had was coil whine from one of the fans day one. I looked up the part # and they sent me a replacement fan so I could replace it myself. Now that I have said that I'm sure I will experience a catastrophic failure at any moment.
-
The first time I contacted them to let them know I would be waiting for the 2nd gen GPUs, it was Ming I dealt with. Now it is Michael. I've attached the pdf Michael sent on 2/25/19 (I added 190225 to the file name as a date stamp). The list of credit for available laptops only list ones with 8xx and 9xx GPUs. Under that is where it says: *Once you trade in your laptop with us, you will NOT be eligible to trade in your laptop again*
Since it does not list any 10xx GPUs is why I believe it is a one time trade-in. Am I reading it wrong?
I'm bummed that those of us that have SLI laptops aren't getting both of the GPUs " upgraded". They made 1080 SLI laptops.
Yea, I know that the RTX 2080 is WAY better than my two 980Ms but it still sticks in my craw that they aren't keeping their promise...Attached Files:

Things do change, perhaps SLI systems were not doing very well for MSI thus possibly got dumped. Or they may have something else under their sleeves without telling anyone yet.
-
Mobile RTX's dont support SLI, thats why there are no SLI RTX laptops.
-
Even though I was part of this trade in I never got an email.. Does anyone have the new reps email (Michael) ? I've sent Ming an email to find out as well.. but who knows how long he might take to respond.
-
@senso - That information would have been nice to hear from MSI.
@Rycorlin - Michael Zhu <[email protected]> -
For all we know, even coming from MSI it could be fake, noting that they claimed that the GT72 can't accommodate 10xx cards...
-
Ask Nvidia..
10 Series says SLI support: Yes
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/laptops/
On RTX there is not even mention off SLI, its not that MSI doesn't want to support, Nvidia removed SLI support from the RTX mobile GPU's..
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/gaming-laptops/20-series/
Its all in the specs. -
Do any of you feel like it's worth taking this 2nd upgrade if you already benefited from the 1st? I upgraded to a GT73E 7RF and I'm happy with it.. but wouldn't mind getting a new warranty, despite only being one year, especially if I'm getting money puts towards it. Is the RTX2080 a big upgrade over the 1080?

RTX 2000 series is well worth the upgrade so if you wish to do it you can as right now it's a good time to buy with ongoing promotions. -
Do you mean trade in or purchase new laptop?
If you already used your trrade in once you're not eligible for second. -
Yes you can trade a second time, anything else is misinformation.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.

Email Michael Zhu.
This is his email response to me on February 7th:
"Yes, you’re allowed to trade in for our RTX 20 series models. Please see attached file for a list of our RTX models. However, please note that we will not have enough inventory to support the trade-in program for another 2-3 months.
For you to trade in for a RTX model, you will receive a $xxxx trade-in credit for your GT73VR TITAN-017 that you can use toward the MSRP of the RTX model of your choice, so you’d just have to pay for the difference."
This is the doc of eligible RTX models:

I am in no hurry. The upgrades are way more expensive this time and the initial deal offered is always the worst one. I'd like to try to get MSI to honor the original "we will only charge you the cost of what it would've been to buy the new GPU".specialist7 and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -

100% true. You can trade in a second time. Not only was this made very clear the first time around, but still is not being denied by them. In fact, I mentioned it in my original email to them and they're still going through with everything so it's confirmed true.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.

Attached is the current list of what is available. They accidentally initially quoted me as trading in my GT83 for $1912 credit (as you can see in the spreadsheet) but after clarification, they quoted me $1100 trade-in credit for the GT80 2QC. The spreadsheet has 3 tabs.
From what I read, a GS75 with 2060 might be the best bang for the buck. Going to ponder this for a bit.Attached Files:

Hmmm - I don't know what to make of that spreadsheet as it doesn't list my laptop: GT80 2QE.
The last thing I got from Michael was in February. It included a PDF that listed that model. Did you get a PDF also?

On a side note, I'm a little bummed at the fact that they didn't make an SLI laptop so I could "Upgrade" from an SLI to an SLI. The only consolation is that the CPU is 3 generations later than what is in my GT80 2QE.... -

Contact Michelle and she'll get you squared away. -
I didn't receive a PDF. If the list of available laptops differs, please let us know. I'm still debating whether or not to upgrade the GT80. Thanks!! Also, Michelle is very responsive. Pretty sure you'll get a quick reply.

Just letting everyone know:
I contacted Ming who managed trade-in program before and he let me know they should be sending out a mass email for everyone in the program in the next month or two and that this is a use it or lose it case. There'll be no upgrades after this generation.
Not discouraging reaching out, but thought it might be prudent to let people know they have an official 'launch' for the program planned.mkinasz likes this. -
Withoout a good offer I am likely to willingly "lose it". The RTX 2070 isn't enough of an upgrade, while spending $2,000+ to trade in for an RTX 2080 machine makes no sense when I can just stand pat and put that same $2,000 toward a far more powerful/next-gen ready RTX 3000 laptop next year.
If the trade in actually worked out to cost what it would be to buy an MXM card, as originally promised, I'd be far more inclined to do it a second time.mkinasz likes this. -
Eh I have a Titan 73 7re that's about 2 years old now, so an upgrade nets me renewed warranty and hardware refresh which will last me at least another three years.
I'm willing to put down 500-1k for a straight diagonal upgrade to the 2070 that lasts that.
Heck, since I have a desktop I might just 'downgrade' to the cheapest option or ask if I can trade in for a thin Pascal model from last year with better ram and storage.
That might be a better option for some.
While the trade in offer isn't great, it's at least something and has it's use.
