MSI using GTX560M 192bit, I do know there is one company using GTX560M 128bit but I can't tell you who they are.

    Ken,
Watched your video. Nice as always. I have noticed that GT683 has 150W PSU in your unboxing video. Can you confirm that?

Ken many many thanks for your detailed videos! :)

While gaming, is the fan noise the same as with the high speed fan activated?

Tim, Yes it's 150W PSU same size same shape as Asus use.

When gaming it's still quiet unless you hit the Turbo Fan button.

    Sure next time. :p

Start shipping this Tuesday so I am sure user review will be out very soon. :)

    Ken,
Will they be sold separately? I think many i7 GT660, GX660, GT680 users will be glad to have 150W instead of 120W. I would gladly purchase one from you.

No Optimus? I thought Optimus was software enabled? Is MSI purposely shutting them off? If it's more than software / driver, then what about the barebone? Do we have a choice in enabling this?

None of the High-End models have Optimus, only the entry level & lower end vga have Optimus.

The only current barebone that has optimus is the MS-1754

For the MSI Branded, the GE620 has Optimus

All of the previous and current GT series use 150W A/C adapters, only the GX660's used the 120W A/C adapters.

Search Google Products for the MSI 150W A/C adapter part number; 957-163A1P-116

    They are available.

Tim, Yes it can be sold separately.

No it's not software enabled, it has something to do with mainboard. As far as I know the only Optimus enabled gaming notebooks is from Toshiba.

I guess most manufacturers doesn't want to enable Opimus for gaming notebook is because when running benchmark the benchmark softwares always try to use Intel HD Graphics, people having same problem with GT540M, therefore, it might be easier for manufacturers not to enable it so they don't have to deal with the issues.

iirc, The GTX 560m is Optimus ready, however, the notebook manufacturer decides if they will enable it or not on the notebook and as far as I know it is max card currently available with an Optimus option is the 540.

I tested temperature using HWInfo32 with Furmark GPU max at around 81*C which is very good I think. :)

The screen is the same, AUO15ED.

In this video they say Toshiba is the only one offers Optimus:

Sager also currently offers Optimus for the GT 555M in both 15.6" and 17" laptop models...

Thanks Ken for the link... Pity MSI did not include it in the new models... When is the Asus G74 scheduled for release?

Ken Lee, how specifically is the noise levels with 683R if you don`t use the turbo fan mode? How is it on light load and how is it when gaming? Is it comparable with G73? Thanks :)

The noise is really about the same, but the MSI GT683R runs about 10 degrees Celsius cooler than the ASUS G73SW-A1 and ASUS G53SW-A1, at both the GPU and the palmrest and keyboard area.

Thanks Donald and Ken. I just don`t understand how a laptop with only 1 fan manage to cool better than G73 which have 2 fans. And since it does, why doesn`t it have to spin up much faster to cool off the entire system and therefor create noise?

How is the fan going btw? Does it spin up for 20 seconds, then spin down for a minute, then spin up for 20 seconds etc? Or does the fan spin on a steady pace without ramping up and down too much?

    Thanks again :)

It only ramps with temperature change. It is whisper quiet until about 72~73 Celsius when it kicks up a bit, then again at about 82. We haven't seen it go much past about 85 when running Furmark. ASUS would be in the low to mid 90's at the same point.

I see the question for Optimus technology. I've read somewhere (please correct me if I'm wrong) that since the technology is hardware related it is not possible to upgrade / downgrade the video card once the technology is implemented. If it is so, it is understandable why notebook manufactures are not using this technology in their gaming machines.
In my opinion it will be very stupid if they use it, although it is good technology, but in this case ... please.

Also, the fan is pretty beefy. I forgot the exact wattage and dimensions. Man, I'm excited about these new machines, even though I'm happy with my GX660R, and the 560m would be pretty much a sidegrade, not an upgrade, to the 5870.

    But it's so pretty.

Aaaand with this post, I've run out of chocolate covered almonds. Sad face.

It will charge the Ipads, most of the new models have I-Charger Technology built in. This increases the power to the usb ports when an Ipad or other multimedia device is detected.

If so, will it have all the same options, including the SteelSeries keyboard and no OS? When will it be available?

No backlit keyboard on the GT683R or the barebone version. The barebone version should be end of June.

Only the GT/GX780's have a backlit keyboard.
