To any retailer here, do you ship in Ireland?

I hope Ken can clear this up for us.

Currently no backlit keyboard for GT683R or anytime soon, but like MrSeaBass said, MSI may not give up the idea and I think they have to since they already put the backlit keyboard on GT780.
-
are you guys already shipping gt780r now or just taking pre-order? How is keyboard compared to gt680(besides backlighting that is. is it more responsive? bigger?) ? I am interested getting one.

They just arrived in the US today, and no one but MSI has had their hands on them.
However they come with Steelseries keyboards ( SteelSeries – Home) so you can expect the best.
We will begin shipping pre-orders next week. -
oh.. great.. time to sell my gt680.. lol.
I just couldn't stand for small screen and uncomfortable keyboard..
so if I order on next monday, I should be able to get mine a week after or so, right? -
If you order it with stock configuration it can be ship Monday, if you order it with custom configuration it'll take around 3 days to ship.
MSI is a lot easier to upgrade than Asus. -

Ken my man, I'm always buying from you guys. Why do you have to tempt me so soon after getting the GX660R?
By the way, I've seen SteelSeries keyboards mentioned several times. Are you talking about an external keyboard, or is Steelseries doing laptop internal keyboards now? -
-
Why on earth wouldn`t they include backlit keyboard on the 683R?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
MSI currently has a worldwide exclusive on the built in Steelseries laptop keyboards. Highest quality, with 24 illumination color variations.
-
oh, so is there option to upgrade keyboard as well on gt780 or is it just built in steelseries? I think I will order one tomorrow.. gt780 seems very tempting coz I play a lot of star craft 2 and was getting tired of gt680's crap keyboard and small screen..

The built in Steelseries keyboard is standard on the MSI GT780R and MSI GX780.

Okay guys help me out, I thought both of these weren't out yet? but from what I think I've gotten from this thread is the 683 is ready to buy and 780 starts to ship Monday?
-
Think so.I like the GT780R's keyboard

Yeah, same here, I cant decide between the two. I want the keyboard, but might be a little to big for my needs.

Pre-orders on the barebones?
-
It seems that powerpro is offering the same as everyone else. All the options were the same as GENTECH PC. All the way down to the 3% discount. I would go with Ken since he has a great reputation around here.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The MSI GT780R does not have a barebones, but the MSI GT683R is built on their MSI MS 16F2, which is what we use for our PowerPro R 11:36.
The PowerPro R 11:36 is in stock and ready to build, but we don't sell barebones.
For barebones go to RK Computers-MSI-Asus-Sager-Clevo-Compal - Custom Gaming Notebooks - Custom Gaming Laptops and look for the MSI 16F2 -

How heavy/bulky is the GT780? I'm leaning towards it over the GT683 But I'll be taking it with me to college, I won't be taking it everywhere but will need to take it too a class or two and the campus is rather small.

I'm basically deciding between this MSI and 8150/8170 boutique build, and now this makes the decision much more difficult! I was leaning toward this system if I could order it bloatware/OS free and have the warranty completely serviced by you guys, as in the PowerPro version. Hm... -
-
-
The biggest thing then is having to deal with MSI support and warranty service. This laptop would be a full desktop replacement, not just for travel, so I would not have a computer to fall back on if something went wrong and it needed to be sent out for service. Being computer-less for a week or two (or four, lol), is not an option for me.
If I understand how the resellers work, they would handle any warranty issues for me, but the computer would still need to get shipped to MSI (in SE Asia?) for fixing. All tech support would be through MSI, and not necessarily US-based. Is that all correct? -
-
I don't know if there is a recovery disk or not. If not go here to download a legal version of windows 7 Home Premium x64. Install from the downloaded image and use the windows key that is on the sticker on the bottom of the notebook. You then just have to call to activate it. It is all automated and takes about 5 minutes. Then download the drivers and utilities you need from the MSI site. Clean install, no bloat.
I do not have any experience with MSI RMA, I do have desktop MSI products but they all have been very reliable and I hope their notebooks are the same. However, I am coming from dealing with Asus RMA so anything would be better even if I had to ship it to zombies on the moon to get it fixed. Knock on wood that I never have to deal with another notebook RMA for at least the next few upgrades. -
-
The dimensions on 780R is huge compared to my old P7811-FX

Hopefully the issue will be resolved soon. -

Well Gee Wiz!
DERrrrrrrr! How on earth did I miss the GT780R? Now I have another notebook to get all excited about! I was just about to pre-order the Asus G74SX, when I ran across this new MSI model. Seems MSI has packaged a little more here, FOR LESS! Very full featured, at a very nice price, and I especially like the brushed aluminum chassis.
KEN, I may have to reconsider my choice here! Tomorrow, let me know you first impressions and opinion of the GT780R! We may have to move those '-=$tr|k3rz=- Essentials' over to this MSI model.
What do ya think?
-
Hey -=$tR|k3r=-, glad you join us here. yeah MSI seem packed with more features but how it looks is subjective. I'll let you know how good the screen is tomorrow.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Well, if the screen is there, let's go ahead and get those 'Essentials' ready, and in place! (and I'll expect delivery by Friday!) LOL!
(I'm feeling another 'unbox'in' coming!)

Mr. Ken, what were the best Vantage scores (total, CPU and GPU) you guys got on the GT780 with a non-Extreme CPU? Overclocked?
I'm still curious how it matches up against the Mobility 5870. -

Benchmark for GT780R and we are working on the review
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Well, while we await Ken's review of the GT780R, I have arrived at 10 reasons to choose this notebook, over the Asus G74SX.
1. An extra USB 3.0 port, and an eSata port, STANDARD!
2. The Dynaudio speaker system (BEST in the laptop industry and actually sounds GOOD!), STANDARD!
3. All brushed aluminum chassis (no plastics here, and looks very stylish!), STANDARD!
4. More onboard DDR3 memory (16 GB), STANDARD!
5. True HD 1080P LED back-lit MATTE screen, STANDARD! (clearer & brighter w/ little gloss, or glare), STANDARD!
6. Two WD Scorpio Black 500GB HDD’s (1 TB), STANDARD!
7. Bios RAID configurable (many notebooks entirely lack RAID support), STANDARD!
8. A TRUE 720P HD webcam that performs at 30 FPS, STANDARD!
9. A 'Steelseries' true tactile-feel gamer’s keyboard, with software control color back-lighting, STANDARD!
10. It's LESS EXPENSIVE!
Almost too good to be true…… and at an unbeatable price! The only downside I see in the standard model, is no Blue-Ray reader, but this can be added for only $54. Also, no backpack or mouse, but still no deal-breaker here.
The GTX560M of the GT780R will only have 1.5 GDDR5, vise the G74SX with 3 GB GDDR5, but I can find no supporting data that argues this will make any performance difference, whatsoever.
It appears the two notebooks are equally spec'ed, however the GT780R is fuller featured, at a nicer price.
With regard to cooling & noise, it would also appear that MSI has also done a very respectable job here too.
Here is the MSI GT780R at Ken’s webpage, and here is the official MSI webpage. Also, here is a link to Ken’s demonstration of the Dynaudio sound system (on the lessor 15.6” MSI GT680R), and note the super clean mid-range & highs. Keep in mind that this demonstration is a video with a lot of background noise…… sounds pretty darn good, but actually sounds much better LIVE!
What do you think folks? I would love to here any honest and meaningful opinions here!
Thanks in advance & ENJOY!
