Could anyone tell me if the GS60 has a TPM ("Trusted Platform Module")?

I would love to know a solution for this as well...

Not the end of the world, but would like to cover it up if there's an elegant solution.... prefer not to just tape over or color in....

I was looking into a skin.. anyone try that yet?

it does not have the TPM chip but windows bitlocker works just fine with a password on this machine, and the performance hit is negligible on the msata ssd

So if I was to place an order for the gs60 3k version right now, would you guys be able to ship it quickly or would I have to wait for your third shipment to arrive?

On a side note, is it worth it to pay $35 to have the GPU and CPU repasted with IC diamond from Xotic/GenTech.

I just realized I wrote "b00b" instead of "n00b" so there you have it.

Anyway, the vBios that change the clocks and voltages, are you useing Sen7inel's for the 870M?

I really like the idea of having my GS60 run a little cooler and want to know if it's worth doing etc.

maybe msi can take what youve done and release a new driver that fixes the fan speed... so people like me that dont want to mess with the laptop can just download and install it. :)

I talked to Xotic - looks like they could put a "wrap" over it, but since the logo seems to stick out - it would look a little weird, IMO - like you're trying to cover something up.

I think the idea of electrician's tape cut with an xacto/scalpal blade may be the best approach - may be able to slot right in over the text. Small enough, too, to not be obvious.

That might work - maybe some kind of quick-drying clay/putty - then smooth it over and color black/grey/red/silver (?) to match.

To get to the heatsinks requires a full disassembly of the computer as they are not accessible by just opening the bottom panel. If you were planning on doing it yourself it would save quite a bit of work getting it done ahead of time.

Another way to put it is that games are only now on the cusp of needing 2GB, once you get to 4GB, you'll be several years down the road where your GPU will need updating if you want to actually use the 4-6GB levels.

I had said I'd tried that in my post, and it didn't work. The last update for the beta driver that I can see is April 16th. Is there a more recent driver update I'm not aware of? My ping is still horrific. Just playing league of legends, my ping skyrockets to 700, while my old acer can handle it at about 80ms or less.

Under wireless card configuration advanced is your Transmit Mode set to medium?

You might try selecting different channels too

The beta drivers fixed my issue

Thanks for the tip. I checked my transmit mode, and it was set to '5. Highest'. I'm not sure what you mean by selecting different channels, but I've tried changing the 'ad hoc channel' to different numbers? If that's supposed to make a difference at all. I tried to rollback the drivers and it briefly gave me 100 ms, then jumped back to 400-700 range. Whereas the new driver is just consistently only at 400-700ms no matter what I do. I'm honestly just totally out of ideas. Nothing has worked at this point, and this thing is turning into a 1900$ paperweight :(. Blahh

so setting transmit to MEDIUM didn't help at all?

if you try the laptop next to the wireless router do you get normal pings?

can you plug in ethernet cable and see if you get normal pings without wireless?

Have you tried this on a wired connection or another machine to confirm that it's the wifi and not just conincidence? Do you share your network with other people that may also be thrashing it with torrents or such? Generally the wifi->laptop ping response is <1ms of latency, so an increase to 400-700ms is dubious at best and most likely not the wifi card in the laptop. I'm not rulling it out, but I suggest you try other options to make sure that it is indeed the point of failure.

So I did try to set the transmit settings to medium, and it worked for a little bit longer before it went to 700 ms, it lasted at 90-100 for about 3 minutes before it killed itself. I'm trying the wireless right beside the box itself and the same problem happened. It lasts for about 2-3 minutes normally, then it just skyrockets and there's no way to get the ping down besides resetting the internet. Plugging it in just said I had limited access, and didn't move from there at all.

And I do have another laptop that runs perfectly fine, the wifi access I get in the exact same location with it is about 80-90 ms. It's also 3 years older.

I would sure love an easier and safer approach to lowering the fan speed at idle. I seem to hover around 2850 at idle and I find the sound annoying. Under load I don't care how loud it gets; I expect it. When I'm surfing the web it is way to loud and I may not keep the laptop because of it. I wanted something that would play games (which the GS60 Pro does great) and also work well as a travel laptop for web browsing and e-mail. My rMBP 13" is silent unless it is under heavy load.

Success! I was able to fully control the GS60 fan(s) with software, no EC firmware flashing needed.

    1) Install "RWEverything 1.6.5.9"
    Download | RWEverything

    2) Extract "Fan Control Tools 1.0.4" somewhere
Fan Control Tools by Pherein v1.0.4

    3) Copy my GS60.nb into "Fan Control Tools/notebooks"

    View attachment GS60_FanProfiles.zip

    4) Copy my Default.rw, Quiet.rw, Silent.rw into "Fan Control Tools/profiles/GS60" (create that last folder)

    View attachment GS60_FanProfiles.zip

    5) Optionally launch "Fan Profile Editor.exe" to edit the 3 .rw profiles above if you want.

    6) Launch "Fan Profile Applier.exe" to set your GS60 to a given profile.

    7) Optionally use "Fan Profile Toggle.exe" to have a one-button-shortcut to swap between 2 profiles (limited usefulness)

    8) Optionally add "Fan Profile Applier.exe" (with all "Remember" checkmarks ticked) to your Windows Startup so that you never have to worry about manually rerunning Step 6 after an EC flash or EC reset (intentional or otherwise).

    Notes:
    - Silent.rw has 0% RPM until 60oC, then goes to 44% and so on. That profile is not perfect -- It would be better if the hysteresis was larger than 3-4 degrees (i.e. the fan kept going longer on its way down from 60oC, past 57oC). I will try to figure out if the hysteresis length can be set somewhere in the EC.
    - Quiet.rw has 44% RPM until 59oC, then goes to 52% and so on. Turns out 43% sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. 44% seems to work all the time. If your fan keeps going on and off after applying this profile, you may want to try 45% or above.
    - When editing these RW files, the first 2 rows are for CPU, the next 2 rows are for VGA. My RW files all keep the VGA curve at default, but feel free to edit it.
    - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

EDIT: some users report that the profiles posted above work with EC v.503 but not EC v.504.

If being plugged in with ethernet doesn't give you proper speeds it's not a wireless card issue.

I would disconnect all devices from router, reboot router, and start fresh from there with ethernet plugged in. You should have a perfect connection. If you can't have good speeds plugged in there is no way you're going to get good speeds wirelesssly lol

Something is buggy about your router and the new laptop

i think i just jinxed myself i started having the same dropping out issue with guild wars 2 again just now, but i moved like 5 feet from the desk and everything is working again fine. i do think the wireless card reception sucks and if you have any large mirrors in the house they might be blocking signals

I just received my MSI GS60 Ghost Pro. I have been spending some time setting it up and making the adjustments to the wireless card, as posted here.

    Man is this laptop nice!

-Fan speeds at idle and browsing are not loud, to me. I have an older laptop that is much louder and couldn't play 3d chess if it tried. With the performance the Ghost offers I am very happy with the speed of the fans.

-The screen is great on the Ghost. It is so much better than any of my other mobile devices. My desktop looks about the same and it cost me $600 alone. Very dark, darks and very crisp colors right out of the box.

-I'm sitting a few rooms away from the router and have not encountered the issues with the wifi card that some have seen.

-Build quality is what should be expected of a high end, not cheap, gaming laptop. It is as top notch as MSI could pull off, without having a unibody chassis. The only way they could have made this laptop better is going unibody like Apple.

No regrets going with MSI Ghost over the Razer 14. These were the only two laptops in my consideration due to portability and gaming power. I feel the MSI GS60 has the upper hand due to hardware.

I have to give a big Thank You to Ken and Joyce at GentechPC for their great customer service. I originally ordered a GS60 Ghost but then realized the Pro would be better for me. They were happy to change the order and get me the Pro, and all overnight.

I'm currently using one of these drives on an mPCIe Combo II card that comes with the Asus Maximus VI Impact motherboard as a boot drive for the OS, works great. So running them in Raid 0 might be doable. A little bit of overkill but to each his own.

Good to hear. I thought it was a tough choice myself. Waiting for my GS60 Pro now. I think I'll miss the nice unibody shell, but, other than that, everything else was pointing towards the MSI.

What finally put me over was how the RB14 only has HDMI and no DisplayPort. I think the GS60 is thus more "future proof". I guess I like having all the ports at my disposal - much more useful!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it!

    1. No battery detected ? It show this even when it works on battery, without AC, and it showing strange behavior, don´t showing exakt % Power sometimes, sometimes charge somteimes not and so on.

    2. Fn and + or - to adjust keyboard light can just turn on and off light, not increase the light, so its just one strength or off mode.

    Any solutions to this??

Hey guys, so instead of this problematic Precision M3800, I might be switching over to an GS60. I was wondering that for a normal user, are there any issues such as heat issues or noise issues or even the most simple things like coil whining that could be annoying in a quiet setting? Also, how is the build quality? I am also a former Macbook Air user, so my expectations of build quailty may be abnormally high, but I am fine with it as long as the laptop does not look too cheap or flimsy. Thanks

I have the same issue. I did a powercfg -batteryreport and got the following:
    16:23:34 Active AC 98 % 53,291 mWh
    16:32:36 Active Battery 98 % 53,280 mWh
    16:34:44 Active AC 98 % 53,280 mWh
    17:05:58 Active Battery 98 % 53,280 mWh
    17:06:04 Active AC 98 % 53,280 mWh
    17:09:11 Active Battery 98 % 53,280 mWh
    17:09:17 Active AC 98 % 53,280 mWh
    17:18:27 Active Battery 98 % 53,280 mWh
    17:18:33 Active AC 98 % 53,280 mWh

It switches between AC and battery at random points. I've tried doing an EC reset a couple of times and running the MSI battery calibration, to no avail.

Is it a defect battery? Anything else I could try?

I've just been reading a thread about the maxwell 860m. They're getting 5k on 3DMark firestrike with a volt mod and overclocking. Can the 870m get that or is it worth getting the 860m version (yes I know it's kepler) and overclocking that.

That's the Graphics only score btw.

    thanx a lot

in silent mode (fan off) with AC plugged in (with dinamic cpu voltage on -0,85 mw in Intel XTU) playing Youtube video I get 60 degrees C
but on battery (with same eco mode and same settings) I get 54 degrees

so what is diferent in this 2 cases (same mode same settings) and how can I get same heat on battery and on AC plugged in?

p.s. Asus nv550jk with same processor and settings reach 5 degrees less, about 49

It's purposeful. The battery stops charging to avoid damaging it. It will start charging it again when it discharges a small amount. My Samsung has a battery saver setting that keeps it from going past 80%. So it charges to 80, then discharges over a week or two to 75-76% then charges back up to 80 and repeat. I leave it plugged in like 99.9% of the time, it's bad to store a battery at 100% which is basically what you're doing if you leave it plugged in. I notice that over the two weeks that it's slowly draining windows reports "On AC, not charging". So the laptop is using AC power but the charging logic is off, so it's just discharging slowly as if it's powering almost nothing. I'm sure there is leakage due to the charging circuit being active and monitoring it.

I understand what you mean, but I think this case is different. The laptop goes to "battery mode" every now and then even when being plugged in. The icon on the windows taskbar stops showing the cable, as if the AC adapter had been removed, when it's perfectly plugged. Battery charge also goes down to -1 mWh sometimes

    20:52:40 Active AC 100 % 53,860 mWh
    21:19:44 Active Battery - -1 mWh
    21:19:47 Active AC 100 % 53,860 mWh
    21:34:49 Active Battery - -1 mWh
    21:34:52 Active AC 100 % 53,860 mWh

The duration of these switches to battery mode ranges from a few seconds to a couple of minutes. During that time the screen brightness goes to the battery setting (I have lower brightness) which is very annoying. If I'm playing a game, framerate drops to 30 fps (Geforce battery boost). It behaves as it the AC adapter was unplugged.

I have also seen a "Battery not detected" message while the laptop was not even plugged to the AC adapter. Powercfg reported:

    Installed batteries
Information about each currently installed battery
    No batteries are currently installed

Again, the laptop was running from the battery when I got this message. This issue is similar to the problem axel7 reported on his post.

I think it's a bit worrying that the battery has this behavior with a laptop that is brand new, and can't see any reason why this would be normal behavior.

Anyone has any idea what's going on and/or how to fix the issue?
