44% seems to be the stable minimum (you can try 42 and 43, but people have reported that every once in a while it will cause the jumps).

Yeah, the non pro temps are a lot lower -
@Orange
I watched the youtube videos but I can't find a noise level comparison between pro and non-pro. 10 dB sounds almost too good to be true. Are you sure about that? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
The noise is about the same. Fans on full blast are going to sound the same on both models since they use the same cooling system. -
Thanks a lot for the info, Hutsady! You saved me from another big disappointment. The 10dB less were just beginning to get my hopes up. At least now I know that the GS 60 is definitly not for me.

Oopps, I'm sorry those links were for comparing temps
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bVyNHxk9HE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROEe...MFk5UtIDimr6hQ
one link is for the non pro and one is for the pro.. so you gotta compare the numbers yourself
these links are for comparing fan sound...
I wrote it down in a post a while back but from what i remember the non pro was like 41db at idle and 44-45db at load
ad the pro was 41db at idle and 54-55db at load.. so thats 10db difference...
but... the mic is pretty close to the laptop so the true sound youd hear sitting back behind the keyboard would be less.. so... i guess take it with a grain of salt.. but it is less loud -
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
the db in the office where im at is like 60db and if in the pro video the sound got a max of 55db at load.. does this mean that I wouldn't be able to hear the fan? if my office db is higher then the fan db anyway?
(not that id be at load while in the office anyway, just wondering) -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
You'll still be able to hear it even if your office sound is around 60dB. It wont drown out or cancel the sound completely but it will make is less noticeable. Do you have a dB meter now? If so check what your current computers dB output is at.
-
In the video it certainly seems to be quieter but I believe what Hutsady is saying. Maybe the video was not at full load. Still, is there an actual owned who could confirm it? There is still a spark of hope left....

K i just tested it and it read the same about 60db as the room... but the setup is a room with 2 long desks with 3 desktop computers under each desk and multiple desks with computers so i think the sound in the room all blends together.. true I wish i had a laptop to test it out -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I just noticed the mic is on opposites sides too, crazy reviewer (me). That would make a difference since its picking up more of the CPU on one vs the GPU.
-
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
I think both videos were tested while running the benchmark which should be full load... but.. I dunno. -
*sniff*, okay, guess that's it
-
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
Oh damn, ha, yeah that would prob make a difference.. oh well.
I noticed xotic has a 15 day no questions asked return policy..does that also go for if you change the configuration and add more ram and hd? or does that only apply for like stock configurations?
-
1) It seems msi is doing a good paste job for these laptops, so IC diamond doesn't make a large difference (lets say ~2C).
2) The only software that I considered bloatware was Norton (and maybe the msi gaming center thing, but that's kinda nice since it shows the fan speeds, temps, etc). I don't think there's a point in a clean install with this machine. I think you'll just end up installing most/all of the MSI software anyway (like the steel series keyboard control) -
You guys are totally okay with the noise your machines make under load? I can't believe I'm that much more sensitive than anyone else
-
I find the noise under full load acceptable compared to laptops I have had in the past. I don't think that the noise at idle or low workload is reasonable, but I am learning to tune it out.
-
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
Yeah, thats the funny thing about these owner reviews... its soooo subjective.. whats loud to one person is totally fine to someone else.. It's so hard to predict how loud / hot it actually is. One person will say you can only hear it in a library when its at idle and them someone else will day its way to loud at idle.. -
I'm beginning to wonder if there was something wrong with my unit. The fans were so loud I could hardly understand game dialogue without subtitles.
-
Can't say for this particular model, but I once owned an MSI GS70 2OD-053NE about eight months back which I had to return because the noise was too much. Heartbroken I was, because everything else with it was just great. A long while after, MSI released an updated firmware that supposedly improved the fan noise when idle, but I didn't have a chance to test it.

Perhaps, were you using the built in speakers and how loud where they?
With the Creative software and built in speakers they go very loud, I generally have to turn the volume up to about 50% to hear it over the fan noise under load.
The fans are loud, but yes it is subjective and relative. The nice thing is that it is a whooshing sound of the air moving and not a whirring of the fans themselves. So it isn't annoying, just quite audible. -
I have that same exact lap desk. I love it.
-
are you locating it on an enclosed desk that reflects all sound back to the front?
under full load it is loud but i can still hear the games even around 30% volume.
try playing with earphones it is a night and day difference -
I had it on my lap while gaming. The volume was ok for the action scenes but quiet or emotional scenes were utterly ruined by the fan. Earphones did help a bit but I don't want to be forced to use them all the time.
I was really hoping the non pro GS60 would be a bit quieter, just a little bit. The third highest fan setting of the pro was about acceptable to me. Just the second highest and highest were too much. -
Which laptops have you had in the past for comparison?

When AC is plugged in Power consumption is between 15-20 W and I get 58 - 60 Celsius temp with fan complitly off, idle or web/Youtube tasks. (fan stops with fan Control tool - thanx everybody who help uss with that and cpu underwolt with intel xtu by -0,85 mw)
When AC unplugged power consumption is 10 - 12 W and I get about 55.
So what changes when a man plugg in AC (same Power settings, exactly same all settings and tasks)?? Somethings change even if a battery is fully charged so its not charging.
How can I maintain low Power consumption even with AC plugged? -
yes , i think i brick the card ... using nvflash on windows .... but i know how to flash with nvflash , it's not a miskade made by me , i don't know why.... i have tested the -50mv with succes and i wanted to try the -75 ... withou succes ahah.
If anybody have a solution again that

I don't know much about doing this undervolting stuff but isnt the higher number the safer number like -100mv and the lower you go the more unsafe? If thats true then is it bad to start with -50mv? -
In fact you have to start with -50mv , and , if it's stable , try the -75mv ...
It seems taht i brick the gtx870m ... the eeprom is no longer visible by nvflash and gpu-z... -
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
Oh man, does it show in nvidia control panel? or dxdiag? long shot but maybe reinstall nvidia drivers? -
It's the other way around. 0mV would mean no undervolt (the value is the offset). A positive value would mean you're adding voltage (99% of the time for overclocking). A negative value means you're undervolting (to lower the TDP...or maybe to increase the battery life... or theoretically to lower the noise, but you're really just trying to lower the TDP). The larger the number (negative or postive), the more you have under/over volted, respectively.

Ah,, I guess I shouldn't try to mess with over or underclocking if I decide to get a ghost...
Man, from what I've seen people post on this forum, -50 seems like a safe number, I didn't know that was dangerous.. Any idea what a safe amount to step is? like try every -10 volts until you get a bsod? -
Hello guys,
I have a question, I have tried running a few games on high settings and the GPU temp will reach about 90c plus will it affect my laptop in a long run? I tried Bioshock Infinite it reaches 92c played it for 1 hours and I got worried.
Temp reading from Dragon Gaming Center. -
Yeah, heat does affect the lifetime of a computer.
-
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
The way I understand it is.. if it reaches a certain temp itll start shutting down or blue screening. So its fine for now. As time goes on your thermal paste will get old and dust will collect so, itll prob get hotter so yeah in the future it might start shutting down or blue screening.. then you just have to clean the dust/repaste/ maybe do this undervolting thing. How long it takes to get to that point I have no idea -
Whats the best I can do without modifying the bias since I really dont know how to do that because now I just dont play the games that will give me high temp
-
Lower the stress on your system by scaling down graphics detail settings. Ideally, you should give the vBIOS a shot if so many people are reporting positive results.
-
So ... please be carfull , i brick the GTX870m by flashing it with nvflash ON WINDOWS ... DON'T USE NVFLASH FOR WINDOWS , but use the dos version ....
For me , i successfully unbrick the GTX870m .... but i will never re-flash any bios on windows
-
How'd you manage to fix it after it was bricked?

I'm looking at buying this laptop but I have a question about storage. I want to install a 256GB SSD in the second M.2 slot and combine it with the standard 128GB SSD to create a single logical volume for the OS. Is there any option in the Intel storage BIOS for a simple spanning volume that doesn't use RAID?
-
right now I have an Asus G73. Before that I had a Toshiba, can't remember the name but it was red.
Now I know that I can't expect a noice level comparable to my Asus from such a thin little machine as the GS60 and I was expecting it to be noticeably louder. Just not THAT much louder. Even my husband who was sitting next to me on the couch was very irritated by the noise and urged me not to keep the laptop. -

Were you gaming or just browsing?
-
When I was browsing, the noise was audible, but not much louder (if at all louder) than my current Asus. Once in a while the fans kicked in for a few seconds, which was slightly startling but not overly irritating.
It became really bad when I was playing Dragon Age 2. -
What are peoples best overclocked 860m firestrike scores vs best 870m scores?
Is anyone able to OC using - 75mV? -
I can't overclock the core with -75mv , but i can have 1 ghz with -50 mv .. ram can be overclocked to 3000 mhz ...
5300 pts on 3Dmark 13 firestrike graphic score , the score of the GTX780mmardon likes this. -
Good work! What are your temps like undervolted and overclocked?
-
cpu 82°C at -75mv ; gpu 87° at -50mv and 1ghz
I will reparst in the next hours with AS5 -
Were you able to find a GS60 2PE with an azerty layout? I contacted that one French site and they have it in stock they say, but not with azerty. There are however two sites that sell the GS70 2PE azerty.
Ps: can't we have this conversation somewhere else?
