Good god, how could manufacturers just disregard thermals so quickly? I seriously can't comprehend the stupidity these companies have lately... Razer, MSI, etc. Looks like I'll be getting a G750, just not sure which variant yet.

For those interested, here is a work-in-progress on my performance vbios:

    1006.jpg

The idea is to see how much performance can be attained before reaching oem heat levels. Stay tuned.

Thanks for doing all this. Will this be a permanent vbios flash with higher clocks and all that? Will this be able to go back to stock easily (without reflashing)?

You'd most likely have to flash the stock vBIOS if you want stock clocks again.

Hmm then wouldn't just overclocking manually have the same effect? I understand the voltage seems to be unchangeable without going into vbios though.

No you'd have to keep a copy of you stock Vbios. The benefit of this is if the clocks and voltages work for your card you won't need to run afterburner or any other overclocking software. Just install and forget (keep track of temps though).

The repast is very benefic for the GS60 ....

    -15 degres on the cpu , before 85°C , after max 70°C at -75mv

-5 degres on the gpu , before 91°C , after 86°C at -50mv and 1ghz and personalised fan speed (more quiet).

I don't think that they just disregard it. I think they are giving the people what they want with a powerful slim laptop, and it CAN manage. They then leave it up to user preference. Also if the temps get high it will throttle so it will keep working. And with driver updates maybe users won't even notice a decrease in performance.

I am happy with the GS60 Pro after undervolting. I would like to work on the fans a little but I'm not sure if I'll get the results that I want. Now with the GPU Undervolt I'm also working on underclocking the GPU to see what results that gives. I will say the left side of the laptop with it being metallic it gets very very hot by the GPU vent.

    Hello,

I ordered the GS60 and I have several questions.
Where is the mSATA and ram computer? Because the videos I've seen on the internet it does specify pas.Puis I change the original ssd sata ssd by or does it necessarily the mSATA? Should flash the bios to use Fan Control Tools by pherein? Version 1.0.4 is the latest version?
It is compatible with all versions of the GS60?
    And what does "repast"?

    Thank you in advance.

Without wanting to sound elite if you don't know what repasting is you don't want to be trying it on this laptop.
It means potentially voiding your warranty by stripping down to the motherboard and applying potentially a more thermally conductive compound between the fan heat sink and the chip.
It's fairly easy on some laptops but not on the GS60.

On a side note. To those that have done this already can you confirm that the metal in contact with the chips is copper and not aluminium?

    Cheers

Would love to know how you fixed it after your bricked it. I plan on flashing and would like to know the back up plan before I do that.

    Thanks in advance.

Not to sound elite either, anybody willing to do their own repasting should be wise enough to know that copper is nearly twice as more thermally conductive than aluminium. It would be unwise for any laptop in the modern age to comprise of a far more inferior thermal conductor like aluminium. It would be considered as a design flaw.

If it were aluminium, you would have known about it.

Regarding the @3.2... does that mean you are running the stock 3.4, 3.3, 3.2, 3.2 or underclocked all the cores down to 3.2 (or maybe even more to 3.2, 3.1, 3.0, 3.0)? Also, how long of a stress test did you perform?
I noticed that a 10-15min stress test put me at ~79-80C, whereas a 30min stress test (which actually helped find some instability which passed in the 15min test) hit ~81-82C. (this was max oced at 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, 3.4).

I wish Xotic or Gentec would offer doing this vbios flashing and underclocking stuff. Does anyone know if a company offers that? I'm not sure If i'd want to try to do it myself.

Thanks for that. Maybe I should have been more clear. I was asking about the presence of aluminum around the heat sink since I'll be using COOLABRATORY Ultra which corrodes aluminium. I've seen plenty of aluminium integrated into or around heat sinks.

Thanks for advising me of the thermal conductivity of aluminium. I'll be sure to keep this in mind when I'm doing my day job in an M&E contractors.

    Edit-----
    They're back in a stock at overclockers.co.uk
Mine will be delivered on Thursday.
Pro version with Raid and 16GB Ram.

Thanks, but I'm not sure that works for the system drive. I'm more looking for an option in firmware so that it's transparent to the OS.

Unrelated to that, how comfortable do you guys find this thing to be when gaming? Is there enough room in front of the keyboard to lay your hand flat without it falling off the front edge? I've only used a 17" laptop for gaming so this wasn't a problem.

Hey all. Been quite some time since I've been on NBR.

I just got my GS60-003 from Gentech about a week or so ago and I love it for the most part, but I am having two major issues that I just can not resolve.

    1) The wifi will randomly cut off and show zero networks available until I disable/re-enable the wifi. It couldn't possibly be a heat issue as I have yet to launch a single game. Temps haven't gone much higher than 40. It seems to be completely random.

    2) The headphone jack does not work. Sound settings show the headphone jack, but it will not detect anything plugged in. I have uninstalled sound drivers, reinstalled sound drivers, checked every possible sound setting I can find and nothing. I thought that maybe it was my headset, so I proceeded to round up 3 other sets. Not a single one is detected when plugged in.

Please forgive me if these have been discussed somewhere in this thread. I am overseas on a horribly slow connection which makes searching and solution-hunting an extremely slow process.

If anybody has any ideas what is going on or knows of a fix, please let me know.

    Thanks!

    -X

I don't know if this is supposed to happen. I flashed the gtx870m with sen7inel's -75mv vbios and am still getting temperature reading of ~92C while running kombuster (10 mins). Is this right? I am getting a MUCH BETTER performance, but the temperature is still the same.

Kombuster is designed to push the upper limits of the card. Not a surprise it's hitting the same thermal cap, the fact you're getting better performance at the same temp means that at the performance level it was getting, you'll be running cooler.

So i just got my GS60 ghost, and a great machine it is. But i´m noticing that the system memory usage is really high all the time (95+%). Seeing as my last machine was running windows 7 ultimate i´m aware that i´m a win8.1 noob, but i would think that it´s something in windows 8.1 that´s making this happen.

Could anyone familiar with this or other Ghost owners check the memory usage of their machines, just so i can rule out device failure?

    regards

Open up your task manager and look at your memory usage, it should say what program is using all your ram. Which program is it?

It´s the normal programs like chrome and steam. The problem is that if i add these programs together it shouldn´t take up more than 4gb ram. I ran pretty much the same programs on my old pc (win7 ulti) and it NEVER got over 5gb of ram usage, that´s why im wondering if anyone knows if this is a win8.1 bug, or if it´s meant to be like this.

I symply reflash the bios on DOS with nvflash , with this command : nvflash -4 namebios.rom , and it works , even if in windows the eeprom was not accessible ......

    It is 3.4/3.3/3.2/3.2

your GS60 work with 3.4 ghz on 4 cores? if it's the case , i can't do this because i hit the limite TDP of 47W ... and when i undervolt with these frequencies , bsod...

Can you put a picture of your configuration like me ?

Hey, just a couple of questions. I pretty much have decided on this laptop however my big decision is whether or not to pay that extra $100 for the pro version.

1)How effective is the -75mv vbios that is talked about in this thread. Does it really help the temperatures. Also, does doing this void the warranty (Sorry, I dont have much experience with gaming computers. Mostly played on consoles).

2)I know that xoticPC has posted this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROEenhCgeUk benchmarks which gives a lot of detail on the temp and sound. Does anyone know if there is a non-pro version of that video so I can look at them side by side and compare.

3)This may be a tougher question. Lets say that I run a game at 30 fps on the 860m and 45 fps on the 870m. Obviously the 870m would be louder and hotter under these conditions. However, if I was to either underclock or somehow change the settings so that the game runs at 30 fps like the 860m, how hot would it run? Would it run as hot as the 860m at the same fps or would it be hotter due to it being a different graphics card.

    Thanks :D

Hey, if you click on the xotic channel on that youdube page and look at their other videos there is a gs60 none pro video... or if you go a few pages back I've posted them like twice in this thread already.. I did the same comparisons you are about to do :) I've been trying to decide the same thing. I think im leaning towards the pro,

I looked on there page. Unfortunately, I only saw the overview for the non-pro version. They didn't run any of the tests nearly as long as the pro version so the numbers (sound/heat) look completely different.(Or did they run it the same amount of time but on the video they edited it out?).

To clarify that I am essentially saying: Can I underclock or change the voltage of a 870m in such a way that it will act like an 860m or will it always run hotter/louder at the same conditions.

I'm guessing this isn't sarcasm.... so yes, the 860 does run both cooler and quieter (since it's a weaker card with lower clock rates).

Is anyone else getting memory leaks?

When i turn on the gs60 the ram usage is around 30%, but the longer i use it the more it rises until it hits 95-100%. A restart resets it back to around 30%. Just wondering if i´m the only one who´s haunted by this.

No sarcasm. Well, the part about it running cooler was quite clear but when I asked if the 860 version ran quieter I was told that noise is about the same for 860 and 870. So, what is true?

Dude, don't rephrase your question differently every page. If someone had a good answer for you, they'd say it. If you google the issue, there's a whole bunch of info on memory usage on Windows 8/8.1. I've read most of this thread and nobody has had RAM usage issues.
