    Hey Mardon
I've been looking at that specific laptop for quite some time as well, waiting for it to come in stock so thanks for the heads up. Please let us know if you received on time in perfect condition?

The question I have for the owners before I buy, with only 128gb SSD as the boot drive, do you not find C: to be too small? I'm sure once you've installed some basic program essentials in windows 8, you're probably only left with 70-80gb? Do you not find this limiting as you will have to install your games onto the HDD which is slower, but is it noticeable?

For me, the one that I want is the non pro version (860m) but with 2 msata in raid, unfortunately that setup isn't available :( so gonna have to settle for the best lol.

Ordered last night after 5pm and arrived at 10.30am today. Very impressed! I'm in work so won't get to play with it until tonight.
I used to have a 90gb SSD and a 1tb drive. You'll get your most used programs on OK then use Steam mover to out the current came your playing on the SSD and then leave all the others on the 1TB drive.

Man, so close to committing to the non-pro. The issues with the wi-fi and the trackpad as well as the heat/fan noise are just enough to keep me on the edge. I essentially want a laptop that will be quiet/cool most of the time but can do some gaming when I want to on the couch (read: not burning my lap off). It sounds like the wi-fi is driver/software-related so I can handle that, but I do want a usable trackpad for when I'm using the GS60 for web browsing or typing. I've been using an old macbook pro recently so the touchpad might be a bit of a shock :p

You can't game on your bare lap (normal use is fine though) as the bottom gets hot really fast. However, if you place it on a book, tray or something more appropriate like a lapdesk you won't feel the heat at all, since the top side stays pretty cool.
The touchpad will be a shock at first but it may be possible to get used to it.

If you decide to get it, please let me know how the fan noise is for the non-pro. I'm still kinda hoping that it could be a little quieter than the pro.

Just to clarify, you are saying that essentially the 860m did not turn the fan on at all (it stayed around 43/44 decibels the whole time) while the 870m was consistently going up from the 40's to around 55 dB. The temperatures did not look all that different?

Also just a quick question. On the 860m version the CPU got a score of 60k+ while on the 870 version the CPU got a score around 22k. What caused this? Was it throttling from the heat?

Why didn't you just put a silent profile on your desktop and select that when you want silent use?
I'll be down clocking with throttle stop and having silent fans when surfing the Web watching films. It's no issue.

A new BIOS update has been released two days ago, any experience yet?

"1. Fix system hangs on msi logo when legacy raid mode.
    2. Fix system still boot when USB boot option disabled.
    3. Support Windows 7 brightness table.
    4. Update GOP and VBIOS driver version.
    5. Update type 11 module to ver.1.4."

Oh it's got a new vbios in it??

We'll have to see if there's any improvements in it then move the voltage back down again ;-)

There has been a new fan table released today on the MSI website. I bet that fixes some of the noise issues.

    Hi everyone!

i´m buying this afternoon my new MSI GS60 Ghost 2PCi78h11 for 1500€ (Germany), but i still have three last-minute questions for the owners :)

    - Could somebody tell me if it´s possible to watch a movie with the laptop on your legs, like in the bed? or is it too hot? ( not gaming, just watching a movie or youtube videos)

    - For working environment, would the noise be "too much" audible while working with Autocad, 3dStudio or Photoshop/Indesign?

    - I could buy also here in Germany the MSI GS70 2PEi781 for 1300€, 200€ of difference! it has bigger screen and better graphic card, but i don´t need that graphic-power and i don´t want it to be hotter/noiser than the other...but would it worth the difference?

    Thanks!!

I would suggest you do an OS Refresh as no one else does seem to have this issue and it sounds like a rogue application or corrupt Windows install.

The non pro went from 40 at idle to 44 at load
the pro went from 40 at idle to 54 at load

one inconsistency with the video is the audio tester was on different sides of the laptop so it might have different levels of sound from one side to another so those numbers might be off.
I assumed the fans were on for the 40 idle reading.

Yeah I was wondering why the cpu score of the pro was so low in their benchmark compared to the non pro.. I'm hoping it's not accurate.

Other then the CPU Score, this confuses me a bit:

    Keyboard: 860m = 105.9 max, 870m = 107.9 max
    Exhaust vent: 860 = 115-120 max, 870m = 112/115
    AC Adapter: 860m = 101, 870m = 107.9

So other then the AC Adapter, the temperatures are very close. So why is the sound over 10 dB louder on the 870m then the 860m? Is 3 degree really enough to produce that much noise? Is this a fan issue or what?

Also following up with another question: Is it possible to throttle back the 870m (underclock/undervolt) in a way that it would act like an 860m. I am saying this so just in case the 870m is too loud/hot for me, would I be able to modify it so that it would act like an 860m?

If those are from the XoticPC video, from what I understand they took the temperature reading from different vents... GS60 was GPU and Pro was from the CPU Vent. (From what I recall) Also the difference in the heat spread to those other points SHOULDN'T be that different. But as they are a few degrees different, think about at the actually chip, then there IS quite a difference there.

Hmm, I don't remember the 860m temps being that high. Last I read 860m ghost temps were low 90s on the keyboard.. Just under the uncomfortable temp..

The extra fan noise is because not just the external temps but the internal gpu temps. The 870m gpu temps are a lot hotter than the 860m gpu temps so thats why there is more fan noise....

if there is even more fan noise... again, the mic was on a different side.. so you cant trust those numbers

Hey everyone, I have a Pro-3k on order and have some questions. But before I ask, yes I know I will not be playing games in 3k, I know a lot of people don't see the point, but I really liked the resolution on my retina MacBook Pro in windows for productivity, so that's what I'm going with.

Now onto the questions; it appears the release date keeps getting pushed, is there any info on why that's the case?

Second, has anyone noticed on MSI's site under specs, it lists an option for 6gb VRAM ? Any thoughts on whether or not that will be a legit option or a typo?

MSI Global GS60 2PE Ghost Pro 3K Edition

Finally, I want to say thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread, some really great information on here!

I should have trusted my gut and avoided this thing like the plague. After a bit more troubleshooting, it has proven to be worse than I thought. Every port on the left side of this thing is dead. Now to try to get my money back.

the GS60. Took a month to arrive and arrived with dead mic jack, headphone jack and 2x dead usb ports. Now I'm out return shipping and $1700 until this thing arrives back stateside. Guess you can't win them all, eh?

Where are you located, and where did you order it from? That sounds like a serious customer service issue if it came like that and they will not cover shipping back.

I'm currently deployed overseas, so the shipping time is the nature of the beast. As for quality control, yes... This was a major oops on their part. They are being very good with me about the RMA, etc... I have requested that they provide me with the return label. Whether that happens or not has yet to be seen.

As I see it, the only add-on I purchased was a clean OS install, so the ports had to be DOA from MSI. the fact that the system was not tested in all aspects before shipping is on them, but in the end it is me who has to wait to get my scratch back.

When I decided to get a small lappy for this deployment, I was torn between a little 13" from Myth and the Ghost. I really liked the Ghost, but my previous great experience w/ myth had me torn. In the end I went with the ghost. It seems that the rig I got was a rather rare freak occurrence and I will say that if working properly, would have been a great system. Don't let this experience discourage new potential buyers, but be sure to check every port immediately after unboxing.

The seller is pretty reputable here, so I will withhold the name for now and chalk this up to an honest mistake.

EDIT: They are going to reimburse me on the return shipping. No harm, no foul.

OK had a chance to play with it now I've got home.
First impression after a few hours.
    I hate windows 8!
The track pad isn't that bad
Idle noise is noticeable but not really an issue.

    I'm very very lucky!
-75 on the CPU with max overclock.
-75 on gpu with 1015mhz core. Still testing but I'm able to overlook the GPU while it's under volted.
I'll run some 3DMark later on.

I kinda had to do that. After trying to fix it (using regedit and msconfig) there was a big conflict, which got me to refresh. I fixed it a bit after installing a new antivirus and changing the lan settings, now it takes 8 hours (+/-) for the ram usage to go critical, and a restart puts the usage back to under 20% and resets the 8 hour (+/-) timer.

But for anyone else it seems from my research that it´s purely network and in some cases antivirus related.

Has anyone used the Battery Calibration utility?

Also, when starting up my laptop (after using the battery calibration tool) my laptop will start and then shut down a few times in a row after just being plugged into the AC adapter. After 2-4 times it starts normally.

You can typically press it repeatedly to sort of break it in, other than that there isn't much to do to fix that as far as I've seen.

I've just been playing crysis 3 and am blown away by the performance! The custom vbios is spot on and haven't seen temps above 85c and I've not even Repasted yet.

Oh and I'm also having the wifi issue despite updating the driver.

How is the dragon emblem attached; is it just a a domed label that is adhered to the front? I would need to carry this laptop in a business setting and would like to remove the label and replace it with something more pedestrian. Would this be possible?
