Yeah the cool.rom is based on the latest vbios off msi website. I had the same thing. It's fine.
There is a fan profile which is silent up to 50c which I use.

Did you rest the EC with a pin?

Quick wifi note, I've played around with my router settings and switched it from WPA/WPA2 PSK (preshared key) to just WPA2 PSK and it seemed to have helped quite a bit with performance. It's also set at 20/40mhz mixed. All of my wifi adapter settings are back to default. It seems very finicky with what security settings it will play nice with. This is a cheapo Time Warner cable modem/router, but thought every little bit of info may help with this annoying and frustrating issue!

Also, it seemed to help to use a wifi scanner ( http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Network-Management-and-Software/Network-Management/Wi-Fi-Inspector) to find a clear channel to use.

Hmmm... seems like a pretty nice machine to be beta testing. I agree there were more "things to do" than my past notebooks:
    vBIOS
    EC
    CPU (XTU) adjustment
    Trackpad driver adjustment
    Other driver updates
    WiFi tinkering (router changes)

Honestly, I also found it rather fun and enjoyable to work through these problems. I'm happy to say they all have solutions and fixing each one made a noticeable difference to me. Each time I turn it on, I'm a little disappointed I don't have something to change or "tinker" with now. But, I'm also glad they're all done and can enjoy a laptop as fast and powerful as this one.

As for Maxwell, just like with any computer purchase, there will be something faster in 6 months. I needed the best now, so went with the GS60 Pro. I'm sure the Broadwell/Maxwell high-end chips (with die shrink) will make a big improvement, but that's a good year away, IMO.

Thanks again to the forum for all the good advice and tips!

Yeah I don't think we'll see anymore maxwell in the 800 series. At the end of the day the 870m will still keep up and will probably be the equivalent of a hot running 960m next year. I'll still be happy with it.
I just completed watch dogs and I played the majority of it using the built in screen. It was a great experience. Next I've got metro last light and theif to play though. All the while working through crysis 3 for the 3rd time. The 870m is certainly getting a work out!

the ec is correct, the fan is 0 rpm before 54c today (i don't know why yesterday it wasn't the case ...).

I tested 3dmark11 with sen7inel ec + his -75 vbios i got 7244 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700HQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16H2
i tested also battlefield with very high settings (except for anti aliasing disabled) and it's always same ... 93c quickly then throat :(
I will test cool.rom after work today and hope it will be better.

I think the voltages are similar. If you're stable on - 75mV which I was other than crysis 3 you may be able to go lower. Test cool.rom and take it from there. Also try and lift the laptop up a little at the back if you can.

I use the notepal x3 and am happy with it. I leave the laptop by the open window when plugged into the TV and it stays really cool on that combined with the laptop cooler. On a cold day it's even in the 70s!

Had my 3k for about a week now and loving it. No fan/GPU issues or heat problems. I've noticed an occasional screen flicker when I'm running at 1 step above minimum brightness - I think it's just the LED backlighting trying to deal with the lower PWM drive at the reduced brightness, as I've seen it on other screens of other sizes on several laptops (I don't like a super high brightness).

Took 3-4 days of fair use (several hours per day) and I've adjusted well to Win 8.1 at native with no scaling - I can read the forum here just fine at 2880x1620 while sitting normally with the laptop on my desk.

No build quality issues of any kind.

Have not yet tried to find a resolution to the "unable to backup" issue for those of us that opted out of the 1TB drive.

you can read the forum with no scalling on a 15 inch screen ? this is amazing but I have to think your very young or an android. I have 20 / 20 vision do not wear glasses and coding at that rez would caue eye damage. I am sure most of us cannot view that rez long term.

I'm sitting upright (not hunched over) with a visual distance of about 20 inches from screen to eyes. I do wear contacts; I don't have anything even close to 20/20 vision. Haven't had any headaches/fatigue that I've noticed so far; only thing I've really seen is that my 22" 1080p monitors on my work computer seem REALLY fuzzy and lack the definition/clarity of my GS60 - they seem really, REALLY ugly and low-res in comparison.

I see websites like overclockers.uk that offer a somewhat customized GS60 PRO with Super Raid and the wifi card in their configuration is this one : Wireless NIC: Killer N1202 Combo (2*2, a/b/g/n)
My question is , is this the same one giving all the wifi troubles or is this one a better one that would solve wifi issues?

The trackpad is horrible, it's even worse than my 6 year-old Sony Vaio.

I tried to adjust the speed and sensitivity but no luck, any solution of this?

I turned off everything except two finger scrolling, double and triple touch, and edge swipe. strangely enough after a week or so the sensitivity feels a lot better almost like you have to break it in

I was using it last Friday during a meeting and didn't run into any problems myself. Might want to try reinstalling drivers if messing with settings doesn't help. Might just take a bit of getting used to. me using different laptops all the time I might just be more accommodating to the different ways different trackpads work.

Got the MSI GS60 Pro 3K last week, very light, screen is great, no wifi issues for me but a lot of people seem to have this. Have Verizon Fios works fine. Trackpad is very poor but after some adjustment, there is an option that says 'palm tracking' if you turn the sensitivity on this down all the way it works MUCH better.
Fan was ok, slightly audible with usual tasks but sure it makes a lot more noise with gaming.
The big problem with this laptop is build quality for the screen, really poor for a 2000$ machine. Very flimsy, looks like it will breakdown easily, will probably return for that reason.

It feels like the mouse pointer is snapped to the nearest button, although I turn off "Snap To" option in Mouse properties.
I think this is very noticeable in a window with a lot of buttons, e.g. Control Panel, otherwise the trackpad is fine.

I just uninstall ELAN, and check "Enhance pointer precision" option.
It seems better but I'm not really sure.

hi guys, i just bought the gs60 3K display model. i have a few problems that i cannot solve.

1st, is there any way to disable the auto brightness adjustment? i realised that the display will dim a bit if it's a dark background and brighten during light background. i tried to change few power option from control panel (tried to disable the auto adjustment, but it doesnt solve anything)

2nd, i used google chrome, it sucks that chrome doesnt automatically adjust with the high dpi. i found a way to solve it by editing the registry. it solve the "pixelised" problem, but now i'm stuck with a new problem that i cannot resize the window of chrome. i cannot access any click on the tab bar. and the reload, back, and forward button looks funny

    link to the image:
Windows 8.1 problem and Google Chrome - Troubleshooting - Linus Tech Tips

sorry, i cant find any way to upload the image.
please help me, i'm desperate with the troubleshooting for these problem

    thanks guys

Ok guys, I might have found a solution for those who have the WiFi drop during intense GPU/ CPU usage may try this method. So far it has worked for me.

At your WiFi properties, click configure your NIC. Next go to advance tab and change your 802.11n channel for 2.4GHz from "Auto" to "20Mhz only"

That should stop it from dropping when gaming. Please do let me know if it works.

    For Chrome:

Right click the shortcut and go to compatibility and disable scaling on high dpi displays. That has always fixed the fuzzy text issue for me.

For auto brightness I have not had it kick in at all for me, but from an old lenovo I had I could never get it to turn off.....

Dang.. mine hits 93C really fast even with cooler. I even had Gentech do their IC Diamond paste.. maybe mine is a defect or Gentech did not even do the paste. =/
    I'm using mardon's 247 profile. I've tried sen7inel's -75mv, same deal.

disable the scaling helps, but it makes everything looks small.. font, and everything. so i still think that it's not the "best" solution.

After disabling the scaling and enable the native HiDPI Mode in Chrome, I ended with the same problem, sometimes i can't move the window... it seems a bug since that future is a beta, however, firefox works perfectly with native HiDPI

Also make sure the GPU isn't rendering more than your refresh rate (60hz/60fps) as this will cause more heat.

In Firefox is enabled by default,

In Chrome, you must create a DWORD named high-dpi-support with a value of "1" on HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Chrome\Profile

Not sure if this was answered elsewhere in this 300 page thread but can anyone comment on scaling with the 3k variant in games? Is 1080p blurry because it's not exactly half the resolution?

Running Crisis 3 on High, I barely hit 60 FPS most of the time, but yea, VSYNC is always on.
