Thanks was wondering what the exact number was and didn't want to go looking for it.

On another note;it does come with the i7 4710hq. I don't believe the non 3k come with it yet.

I would like to know where I can get the updated version with the plastic triangle on the bottom and also if it's possible to get the gpu with 6Gb as opposed to 3

For anyone curious, I figured it out after some trial and error. I imaged the 840 from the 128gb m2 and then booted into parted magic via a USB drive. I deleted all of the stock partitions on the 128gb from parted magic, reformed it to one blank NTFS partition, and then rebooted and it chose the 840 Evo. Things are working great now!

The Pro 1080p does come with a 4710hq because I've got one.
What do you mean by triangle?

I was actually just coming to mention the same.

I got my pro 052 today and to my surprise it had the 4710hq. Seems everywhere and everyone was advertising it as the 4700.

Mine also has the material on the bottom. I guess it was just the first batch that had the 4700hq.

Three more questions about the gs60 ghost 3k:
How is the idle noise with the 860m? Is it ever silent?
Is the built in mic any good?
Is the Touch pad good? Does it behave well and smoothly with multitouch gestures?

    Thanks!

The fan doesn't spin on the GPU when not in use. It'd dual fan. The CPU fan spins constantly unless a custom fan profile is flashed.
    Can't comment on the mic.
The touch pad is OK after some tweaking. It's terrible at first!

So is the screen quality worse overall? I can get the 3k version instead for just a tiny bit more than the 860 , are you saying it isn't worth it?

Mardon, is it possible for you to create an even lower voltage cool.rom? Preferably stock clocks if possible, but I understand that lower clocks might be necessary for lower voltage.

^ Seconded. I've got a Ghost 870m on the way and want to minimize heat.

Also, is it possible to flash back to stock and have it appear as if nothing was modified? I'm thinking in the event of RMA/returns...

Yup, just flash the default bios back, and it won't say [MODIFIED] anymore.

I think my gpu is kinda out of norm, so I don't think you would need more than his regular cool.rom, unless something goes wrong like mine.

I want to say thank you Sen7inel & mardon for the GPU tweak and hitzgut for the little write-up on tweaking the CPU and everyone else that I forget to mention for coming up with the modifications for the GS60 Ghost Pro. It sure helped me tweak my CPU and GPU for lower temps even though this is the first time I'm doing it!

Please add my vote for another lower voltage vBIOS (currently on mardon's cool.rom) and a cool EC firmware for the 506 firmware version too. I'm currently living near the equator and daily ambient temperatures range between 27-34C. That means I'm seeing higher than normal temps across the board. :(

    Hi Guys,

I posted in this thread about three weeks ago in regards to some major wifi problems I was having when gaming. I was unable to connect to gaming networks (specifically WoW and Dota2), and when I did connect I would immediately disconnect from outrageous lag.

Today, while I was playing Mass Effect, I noticed that my internet would disconnect everytime I was "in game" (this obviously didn't affect the game as it doesn't use the internet). I found this quite peculiar, so I decided to play with my graphics cards to see if they affected wifi (I didn't even know this was possible...).

Long story short: After disabling the Intel HD Graphics 4600 I found that my wifi issues were completely resolved. I am not sure WHY they are resolved, but I can now play all of my games without the network kicking out.

Disabling the intel graphics, while completely fixing my network problems, has created some fun graphics issues to work out. I am quite ignorant on how the two graphics cards (the intel and gtx 860m) interact, but since disabling intels card, my graphics, while in game, are unable to achieve the quality one would expect from the 860m.

    BF Hard Line at 3K

Medium Settings 50-60FPS no stutter temps about 86 on GPU and CPU wa around 80 with a cooler.

High settings. 24-30FPS again still seemed clear with no stutter, GPU topped at 93 though. Laptop still stayed cool around playing keys though(This was without my cooler being on)

The gs60 ghost pro should be availible end Juni in the Netherlands. (Also live there and want one so done some research and asked around)

It runs hotter. The storage is very very small and limited. You can upgrade it. Only 8gb ram instead of 16gb. The razer blade 2014 is in many ways worse compared to the gs60 ghost. Also touchcreen on a laptop is fun but the chance is 90% you aint gone use it because it doesnt work easy on a laptop.

    O
I'll have a look today if I get the chance. Since not all 870m will perform the same that's why u lowered to the stock clocks so it was compatible for more people. I keep the clocks how they are then individual users can try and change the clocks manually using nvidia inspector or afterburner.
I recommend playing with the Vram speed the most as you'll get better performance with less of a heat increase.

So yesterday, I started hearing a rapid clicking noise coming from the speaker. I'm not sure what it is. I was running the the custom ec firmware posted here but have reverted back to stock and the clicking is still present. Any advice would be appreciated

Mm might be a hardware issue. Does it only happen when you play music/sound? Try adjusting the volume from quietest to loudest while playing something and repeat, that fixed it for my old Y500 when it had that issue.. though it comes back.

I tired that and muting the speakers. It may be a hardware issue. It just happened all of a sudden. It seems to be coming from the right side, and after a quick google search, it may be the hard drive making all that noise. The laptop is less than a week old, no way I could have damaged it. :/ this laptop is more trouble than it's worth, I may be sending it back to xoticpc. Although I love the design, it runs hot and the fans are super loud.

Guys if I want a notebook with the 870m is it safer to go for the GS60 or the GS70?
I hear the GS60 cools better because even though it's smaller it has bigger heatsinks.
Which one should give me the most battery life?

    Thanks!

The gs70 has a bigger battery I think. For the photos I've seen of the gs70 it seems to have one less heat sink per corner compared to the gs60.

It can be high due to better GPU used, which is hitting the thermal budget limit but it is usable nevertheless.
So it is up to you whether you really need the extra horsepower or not.

Firstly, I think it is designed the fan will have out flow air from the speakers since they placed it together (?). SO it may be a fan problem rather than speaker problem.

I am not really sure what kind of sound you have, but my GS60 also had some really strange sound from the GPU side fan once the GPU temp reaches 55C.I think it is a hardware issue and I sent back to MSI and they have solved this issue for me in a week :)

I think it is also possible the CPU fan having the same issue.

PS. it happened at the day I bought my laptop :p

Sorry for my poor English :D

I recorded and uploaded the recorded sound here. Try to download it if you can't listen it online

No worries. Sorry didn't get a chance yesterday. It takes time as I have to test it once I've fiddled with the settings to check it's stable across a variety of games and benchmarks.

On a side note I purchased a Creative x-fi pro usb sound card over the weekend. I really recommend it if you have 5.1 surround sound at home. You'll get full location based surround sound in your games via optical out (dolby digital live) or analogue. It makes a massive difference. You get full control over individual speaker levels and sounds fantastic with headphones as well.
The added bonus is it can be used on any future laptops I purchase.

I've had a similar problem to yours on my brand new machine. I've let it update and do whatever it needed to then I went back to disable adaptive display brightness and this time it stayed that way. I've played around with the "Balanced", "High Performance", etc. power settings as well so that may have played a part too.

Guys which screen looks the best? The GS60 3K, GS60 FHD Matte or the GS70 FHD Matte?
Any confirmation on which ones are TN and IPS panels?
I have to decide on a model soon and the screen choice is holding me back...

I am really torn if I should get this laptop now. The design is lustful and the heat problem of the Pro can be fixed with the undervolt mod. Yet, the price is still a bit high for me. The stock Ghost Pro configured as follows: i7 4710HQ, GTX870M, 16GB DDR3L, 256GB M.2 with 1TB 7200RPM HDD costs approximately 2393USD. I can get the older 4700HQ model for 2300USD. If the price can be lowered to 2000USD, I can manage. Should I play the waiting game? I am considering this laptop because I value performance (I will render a lot using After Effects and Cinema 4D), and portability (I will be going to college, I don't want a dumbbell in my bag). If not, I may purchase the similarly speced Gigabyte P25W v2, where I will sacrafice looks and portability fir more value.

From what I've seen on both the forum and in person, the GS60 screen is vastly superior. The GS70 while it does impress by its stance and size, the screen is washed out and looks grainy when compared side-by-side with the GS60s IPS panel. At least the Ghost Pro (non 3k) version did to me.

One final question, which one cools the 870M better? The GS60 has more heatsinks but the GS70 has more breathing space, really curious about this.

    Hey guys,

First of all I want to thank all the people who have contributed to this thread - it's been very helpful.

I've decided to go with the GS60 Ghost, but I can't make my mind up whether I want the Pro version or not (I need a matte screen so the 3k wasn't an option for me). I'm looking for a laptop that is pretty much silent, reasonably cool and has 3-4 hours of battery life when performing basic tasks (web surfing, netflix, etc). The difference in cost is no issue and it would be nice to have the better graphics card in the Ghost Pro, but not if it means sacrificing battery life and fan noise in any significant way.

Can anybody tell me the difference in battery life, fan noise and performance between the GS60 (860M) and the GS60 Pro (870M) during:

    a. regular (non gaming) use
    b. gaming use

Will underclocking/undervolting have the same effect on both systems? Sorry if these questions have been asked previously in this thread. After about 5 hours of reading I couldn't find an answer.

    Thanks for any help!

On idle the two machines will have similar battery life. You can disable the nvidia gpu completely in the bios if your on a long journey.
At load I couldn't tell you. They have the same fans but the gs60 860m might have a different fan profile.
I use Sen7inel's custom fan profile which is silent up to 50c but also used 100% gpu fan at higher temps which the the stock profile does not.
