    Hi guys,

I just bought my new MSI GS60 Ghost 2PC and the problem is it came without windows. So I bought Windows 8.1 Professional from Microsoft Online Store and installed it on my new laptop. Now the problem I have is that even after installing all the drivers and the software from the CD's that came with the laptop :-

    1. I cant use my Fn+F1, other keys for short commands (except Fn+F10 for flight mode and Fn+F12 for sleep (I guess because it is standard in all windows 8 laptops.)
    2. My touchpad/trackpad does not have multi-touch functionality
    3. My phone (Galaxy S3) is not detected by the laptop when it is plugged in.

Thanks in advance any sort of help is appreciated.

    Sid

How did you get it without windows?!!

Take a look at the MSI website to get the latests drivers. The ELAN stuff for multi touch is in the hardware drivers for the mouse. just install the ELAN drivers, go to your control panel, hardware, and mouse. then ELAN and its all there.

I just recently received my MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3k from GentechPC and all ready I've screwed things up. I received an email from a sales rep asking me if I wanted Raid 0 config since I ordered 2 480 GB M.2 sata ssd's to which I replied no. To my surprise the laptop arrived with the ssd's in a Raid 0 configuration which I failed to pick up on. I attempted to install Linux Mint 17 on the 2nd ssd thus screwing things up on the Windows side and I found I was unable to access the recovery partition to reset Windows back to the way it was configured and shipped to me. I even got a recovery usb thumb drive that Windows refuses to recognize. Let this be a warning to prospective buyers to really check out their newly purchased laptops thoroughly before making any drastic changes to the laptop. I sent Gentech's support line an email to see if there's a way to get my re-installation of Windows 7 to access the recovery partition so I get it back to the way it came minus the Raid config. I installed the drivers and programs except for the KLM, it's not on MSI's driver disk and I haven't been able to find it on MSI's website. For now I can play with changing the keyboard's LED colors via the Steelseries' program. It's not as intuiive as the KLM but after 5 minutes of fumbling around with it, I was able to get the keyboard's LED's color set the way I liked it.

    Hello everyone,

Me and my friend had a little talk yesterday about which laptop is much more worth for it's price.
Y50 vs GS60 ... well y50 was knocked out because of its really bad FHD screen...

So the next thing was about something like GS60 Refreshed version... hopefully with new Maxwell graphics :)
Is there anyone who knows a date or at least guess when something like this is gona happen?

GS60 is worth it's price but just with Maxwell ... -10% graphics power is really drop while comparing it with Y50 - Maxwell with 4GB of GDDR5 and it's price :/

Yeah I know ... but It was screwed up with Kepler :( it would be totally perfect laptop but that Kepler in it sucks ... -10% is really much for it's price :(

I don't agree that Kepler sucks. I can't believe the power such a thin laptop puts out. I can play all games at minimum high usually very high. How does that suck? 150w psu for a quad core and high end graphics really isn't all that bad.

I disagree with your assessment. From what I read, Kepler is a 30% improvement over the last generation while Maxwell is only about 10%.

If you want to wait a year for that, by all means go for it but it doesn't really mean all that much to me.

Well I meant that if you are buying something that expensive you should get what you deserve.. for me it's newest Maxwell with 10% better performance than Kepler ...

Uhm, where do you read that ? Yeah maybe it is 30% improvement from 760M -> 860M
but what I read is that 860M Kepler is about 10% slower than 860M Maxwell :)

Convince me that this is not true and I won't blame MSI for installed Kepler.

The new dragon gaming centre can be found here - MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more 64

Along with all the other widgets and drivers you might need. expect for the GTX 870m driver weirdly! Although we all use the beta ones from nvidia anyway, right? ;)

edit - I've just noticed theres a new beta wireless intel driver - 17.0.5.8. For those having issues.

I think the kepler 860m overclocks pretty well. The difference after tweaking is going to be negligible and vary from chip to chip. It's the heat and power consumption that sees the biggest jump.
You'd expect there to be a performance increase with a new generation of architecture but your waiting something that's not available yet. It's like saying maxwell 1st generation is no good compared to a future refresh which isn't available yet.

I am not saying that actual Maxwell is not good ... on the contrary I am saying that Maxwell is way better than Kepler ... And I am not talking about Maxwell refresh also, What I am trying to wait for is GS60 refreshed version with installed Maxwell GTX860M not Kepler one ... understand now? :)

I understood you the first time. They wont refresh with Maxwell 860m. The next refresh will be the new generation of Intel Chips and the new Maxwel x60m and x70m. If you're bothered about the 860m Maxwell being better than the 860m Kepler just get the 870m.. Problem solved.

"Good" recommendation ... but GTX870M is out of my budget and also I am not fan of 90°C in that thin laptop :) Okay closed discussion with you ... your arguments seems more useless than useful to me sorry ... but i take some of them

I can only offer you advice and comment on things that are available or are going to be available. I would put money on there being no Maxwell (860m) refresh in the GS60. How about the new y50?

After some tweaking (if your willing) you can keep temps comfortably under 90c. Would it be worth waiting a month or two and saving for a laptop that won't disappoint you? It's that or wait around a year.

Y50 is not worth it's price with that ty display 1080p ... I am against Higher resoultion in 15.6" ... and also does not have mSata slot what is also minus for it's price ... SSHD sucks and just with SSD i would be hooked with external HDD what also sucks ... that's why i chosen GS60 ... and what I am all the time talking is just conspiracy :) about GS60 with refreshed Haswell and (actual)Maxwell :)

If you go for the 860m version I'll be happy to help you with a vBios which will get you better performance than the maxwell 860m but the temps and power consumption will be higher. The GS60 does seem to tick the most of your boxes.

    *Hulk Hogan Voice* Amen brother

I thought I liked the Y50 but I think it was a lot of compromise. I kept telling myself I paid $1100 and I can deal with it but in reality I wasn't happy.

Have you looked at the gigabyte p34g v2? Has maxwell 860m with doubled 4gb vram which IS more relevant than you think (stuff like watch dogs and nodded skyrim consistently eat up more than 2gb vram)

Lenovo really kept the Y50 from being almost a perfect laptop. First the crappy below average TN screens on FHD versions, and the 4k version would be perfect except the screen is locked at 48 hz... Are you kidding me lol

Unfortunately the gs60 is just a little above what I want to spend.

    *sigh* choices choices

My reboot was anything but quick: progress moved to 100% but machine didn't restart for almost 5 minutes! But I now do have the Hybrid Power selection, so it's all good, just wanted to warn others it may take a while to install.

I cant imagine so? I just downloaded and ran it, and it said it would upgrade my machine. once done, it asked for a reboot and hybrid power was enabled after that. Its not a game changer if you're not overclocker and stuff. So i wouldnt worry too much that you're missing out!

I thought it has a different mounting style. When I Google the Intel wifi card it looks different to everything else on the market having just one central screw at the end rather than two. Ours is on the right of the image.

    Hey Guys,

I just got my ghost pro non 3k version the other day and from day one I'm having this weird screen flicker problem. It kind of looks like this video that someone else posted on youtube.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZAL5dPrybg

I know a lot of you guys have solid gs60s have any of you seen this problem before or have any idea how to fix it? I tried installing the latest vbios and bios and ec off the msi website but it still does it.

I'm soooooo disappointed and disheartened after waiting so many weeks for it and there being a problem.. besides this problem I love the laptop in every other way.

    Any help would be awesome.

    Thanks

This could be a panel or panel circuit, or signal cable issue.
Contact MSI to have it repaired under DOA and they will take care of you.

It's pretty odd, because if you check their forum, mostly are complaints on the killer instead of Intel, lol.
Intel wifi cards have better reputation and support, especially they do update their drivers frequently.
Have you tried to contact Intel directly to find out what they can do for you?

This, screen flicker seems to be a loose connector or a physical issue with the panel itself, not drivers.

I'd say the same. its obviously happening with the onboard and the nvidia. You've got to look for the common part that could be failing!
