Are you guys just speculating? Does anyone have first hand experience with the problem?

There were two other people in this thread who had this problem. One took it to service and it was identified as a loose connector. He got it back but it started happening again. He may have RMAed it.

could someone upload a picture of the backround ??? I mean the standard red msi gaming wallpaper ... have to set my windows up again

I have been experiencing wireless issues, but the latest wireless driver improved my ping by 20 - 30 ms. See if this helps:

The driver is the same as MSI's 17.0.5.8. -
Does anyone here prefer their ghost pro to a razer blade, assuming you have had a chance to try both? (Assuming price is not a factor ).
-
Yes I am speculating as I don't have the notebook myself nor I have that particular issue, but it does seem like a case of a loose connector to the LCD. I once had a similar issue with a netbook, an Asus Eee which had that happen a couple of times and it was a loose connector.
I think you should send it in for repair unless you are confident enough to fix it yourself. -
I have only tried them at stores and I own neither of them. I thought the GS series was a great answer to the more expensive razer blade.
I might be slightly biased towards the MSI though. While I applaud several efforts and products from razer, there is something about their attitude and then slightly overpriced products that tickle me off haha. I never got over the razer blade being the world's "first gaming laptop" and how all other gaming laptops were wrong haha
But! Both are alright and well built. I would go for the MSI though, specially an 870m version. -
How are the temps of the 860m compared to the 870m with the vbios?
-
hi guys... i still havent found any solution to disable the adaptive brightness? it's very annoying when watching movie...
i tried to disable the adaptive brightness thing in power options on control panel.. not working.. any other solution? -

860M = 70-80C
870M = Up to 93C. -
I was testing a vBios with lower voltage than cool.rom yesterday and couldn't go any lower without knocking the clocks back more which I didnt want to do. So I won't be posting another one.

Hi all, today I have changed my GS60 3K version HDD to a brand new Samsung 840 Evo SSD 1 TB, The SSD is recognised in slot 3 in BIOS, but Window do not recognise it. Can someone help me to make window 8 recognise my SSD please.

Never mind, after I reset my laptop for 5 times. It suddenly appear to work. It is unbelievable.

The device manager was already able to see the new device.
You just had to create partition for the drive so it can become visible.clickclack169 likes this. -

You do need to assign all new drives a letter/path. Windows may have done it itself after your reboots. Good to hear its working now.

Hi, I have flashed mardon 247v2 rom on my GS60 870M 3K, and now, I am having a problem that the Nvidia GPU run all the times, the Intel GPU never run again, seem like it is somehow being disabled, so now without the AC, my lappy only last for 39 min. I have tried to flash vbios back to stock and it did not fix the problem. Anybody appear to have the same problem with me? Any solution ? Without flashing the Vbios, my temp will reach 93 when I play Devil May Cry Reboot. But after the flash my temp stay at 88

I'm currently looking at this:
- Model: GS60-2PEWi716SR21
- CPU: i7-4700HQ, 4x 2.40GHz
- GPU: GTX 870M 3GB VRAM
- RAM: 16 GB
- Storage: 1TB + 2x 128SSD
- Display: 15,6" 2880x1620
- Price: 2000€
I want a workstation for visualization, video editing, some gaming - and for studies.
My main concern is the battery life for the university (MS Office). I've only seen some reviews for the "lower end" version reaching about 5hours surfing on wifi. Would it be significantly lower as the specs are upgraded? Is the fan speed acceptable?
I'm not a fan of raid 0 SSDs and I want dual boot. Shouldn't be a problem with 1 SSD for Windows and 1 for Linux right?
I'm familiar with this resolution on a vaio flip 15 but how is the Display overall concerning things like back light bleeding / ghosting etc.
I love the form factor of the new razer blade but not available in Germany/EU but the 3200x1800px 14" display is a huge letdown because a 15,6" 2880x1620 display is "just ok" to work with on older programs.
One thing I totally hate about this notebook is the missing windows key. I use the windows shortcuts all the time.
Can you rebind the fn key to the windows key?
I don't want a 17" model.
Thanks for help

My problem with the Razer and why I didn't go that route was simply I needed a NUMPAD and the 14" is just a bit too small. I use the GS60 as my main machine, for both work and play, and needed a 15.6" with full keyboard. Price wasn't really a factor, as I'd have paid for the Razer, but it didn't fit my requirements.
Having said that, I would have liked the touchscreen. -
As for your first question, battery life should not be that impacted due to specs, because you get most of it due to integrated GPU and low usage of your CPU with Haswell battery saving features already built in. The only way to drastically reduce your battery life is to engage your dedicated gpu or use intensive CPU programs.
As for dual boot, yeah you shouldn't have problems though you will need to destroy the RAID and reinstall windows or perhaps ask the reseller/store to ship it with a single SSD used for boot. Worst case you can use software like Acronis to clone the Windows partition and clone it back to a single SSD after breaking the RAID in UEFI. -
I got my GS60 870m 1080p a few days ago and quite like it so far. To answer some of your questions, and make some observations of my own:
- I get around 3 hours worth of internet browsing, Youtube, MatLab and Excell on a battery charge.
- By default, the fan noise is acceptable in slightly noisy rooms, but can get pretty annoying in silent environments (it bothers me enough that I no longer keep it on in my room while sleeping). Undervolting (I got to -70mV only with Intel XTU) and using the modded fan curves posted in this thread (I use Sen7inel's silent profile) alleviate this problem such that you can mostly do light work in complete silence (except for the HDD), but when the laptop reaches 54ºC (which happens to me even while idle) and the fan revs up the contrast almost makes it worse than if it was on all the time.
- The lack of a dedicated Windows key on the left is annoying as hell. You cannot remap the Fn key or the other function keys (F1, F2, F3, etc) with the included SteelSeries keyboard software. If someone has figured out a way to do this, I'd very much like to know how it can be done.
- I have no light bleed on dark backgrounds, but I can see a VERY small gap on the outside of my screen bezel on the right hand side, where I can see some of the LED screen backlight, but only if I look at the laptop straight from the edge. Don't know what you mean by ghosting.
- So far, I have had no wifi problems, including while playing a few DOTA 2 matches. However, I have only been able to pair my Razer Orochi 2013 bluetooth mouse successfully once and now it only works in wired mode with this laptop (but this might be an Orochi/Windows 8 problem).
- The trackpad is acceptable if I absolutely must use it, but it is frustrating enough that I always carry a mouse in my backpack.
- Even though It is a 15.6" display, the bezels around it are quite large, which make the laptop quite large and a non-standard size, such that I could not find a nice sleeve that fits it snugly (I find the included MSI sleeve to be too stiff and a bit ugly. I'd prefer a black neoprene sleeve if I could find one). However, it is pretty light and the power brick is thin enough not to be a hassle to carry around.
- The fancy lighting in the keyboard is not very useful. The borders between the 3 zones (left, middle and right) are not well defined and the backlighting is just not bright enough. The light intensity can only be set to on or off, unlike the Razer Blade, which has like 12 levels, I think. The ability to choose the color and define different profiles is nice, though.
- Typing on this keyboard is a joy. There is very little flex and the key travel is great.
- The speakers can get quite loud without any noticeable distortion and the sound quality is pretty good to me, but I'm no audiophile.
Hope this helps.mardon likes this. -
Have you got MSI afterburner or any other gpu monitoring or overclocking software running? They will keep the GPU awake, the vbios does not touch the optimus or Intel GPU settings.clickclack169 likes this.

Hey guys!
I' just upgraded my laptop from GX660 to a new GS 60 after reading on the new GS here on the forums. Now i have two questions regarding the laptop.
1) (stupid question) Is it me or is there not a removable battery?
2)My computer is struggling with a game like Counter strike Global offensive it seems. Will the VBIOS flashing make me loose my warranty or will it make my performance better?
What should i do to test it out with full intensity to see that its not something wrong with my example of the laptop. -
I owned the first gen Razer Blade 14, was satisfied with it until I got more and more annoyed at how poor the screen quality was. Got rid of it and am now looking for a replacement and I am also hanging between the new Blade or the MSI GS60 3K 870M version.
The good thing about the Ghost Pro is that it's got a mini DP so you can game in >60 Hz on an external monitor, which I am leaning more towards.
However, I also found the form factor of the Blade very very nice so I'm torn! >_< -
Thanks for the feedback. I think I will give it a shot and try to tinker with different cpu limits to keep the temperature low so I can accomplish a silent fan speed.
-
1) To access the battery you have to open the back of the notebook and remove a warranty sticker, so it is not easily removable. It's basically the same procedure needed to upgrade the RAM or add another SSD. However, I've read somewhere on this thread (from ExoticPC or GenTech, I think) that MSI will still honor the warranty, as long as you don't ruin the laptop while upgrading it.
2) First, check if the indicator light on the power button changes to orange when you start the game. If it remains blue, it means the computer is using Intel Graphics, which is just not powerful enough. You can change which graphics card you use to run a program by Right-clicking the executable>Run with graphics processor>NVIDIA.
If it is using the GeForce card and performance is still bad, try updating your drivers. This can make a pretty big difference. By default, your GS60 should have come with GeForce Experience installed. Use it to easily update the drivers and check if your performance improves.
Failing that, try to run a benchmark such as 3DMark and check your score. I got a score of 4293 on the FireStrike benchmark with the 870m at stock clocks. If your score is similar and the computer is struggling with your game, you're going to have to disable AA or turn down the level of detail or resolution. By the way, are you running it at 3k resolution or 1080p? The GS60 can't really get decent framerates at 3k for a lot of games... -
Thank you mardon, I keep the MSI afterburner start up with window, that why the GPU always run. Thank againmardon likes this.

1. Battery is not a detachable unit but internal and somewhat easy to remove if you need to do it in the future.
2. You should play the game with AC adapter plugged in to allow the system to perform in full power. -
Did anyone undervolt the CPU with something other than Intel XTU? I was able to get to -70mV on both the cores and the cache. At -90mV I get instabilities when stress testing, but not while just randomly browsing or doing light work. Is there a way to set a different level of undervolt that depends on the current CPU load/clock? I think this would allow me to keep the fans completely off while idling and maybe while doing very light browsing/Office work.
-
There are different voltage settings withing XTU God knows what they do. See if there's a detailed guide somewhere on what each of the sliders do.
-
And BE extremely careful. Wrong settings can cause a lot of headaches, damage and sadness!
-
I think if you're undervolting it's a different story. Overvolting is different, you should learn be before hand the maximum safe voltage and not go above that. Damaged can be caused if your go cover that. With undervolting the worst that can happen is instability and crashing.

Interesting problem, my WiFi stops functioning while Nvidia Experience is running. Could this be a clue as to the WiFi connectivity issues?
-
Yep, tho no one wants to be stuck in a crash-loop-boot situation when doing a bad change hehehe
-
Huh, I could try that too, to see if the issue replicates across models with same or similar hardware.Reks likes this.

Hey Guys
Just purchased a gs60 pro non 3k version.
itsbeen great, boot startup into windows is literally 5 seconds.
there has been issues with wifi which i've never had, but the screen auto brightness adjusting has been bugging me.
now heres the question, i;ve disabled the power options to make sure the auto brightness doesn't happen, however now when i press FN + arrow up or down to change the brightness my MSI dragon gaming centre always crashes.
Since i don't use that program that much anyways i'm trying to disable it from startup, but can't damn to find it inthe startup tab, or servicse.msc
so any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!
other than that, the laptop is a marvel, boarderline sorcery, the startup time is bloody amazing -
So you are saying you do not have WiFi issues? I am definitely noticing some problems when the laptop switches to the nvidia gpu and heats up. Either connection stoppages or some slowdown.
Turns out the beta driver was the issue. -
Fighting the urge to sell my Gs60 and get a aorus x7 v2!
-
SLI cards always had their issues, and even though 2 860M's out performs one 880M, when sometimes SLI does not properly function, you will have to only run one 860M.
Plus this is a 17 incher, thin or not, this will be hard to carry around. Unless you're just looking for performance, why else are you wanting the Aorus? O: -
That's the only reason really. Gave my head a wobble played some metro last life and I'm back happy with my gs60. You're right about the portability, I take mine to work often on the train and 17" would be a pain!
-
I've asked before but does anyone know if I can use Razor's slim 150W power adapter instead? Or are there other slimmer, not necessarily 150W, adapters that are compatible with the Ghost?
-
i have the same problem with the brightness adjustment... and no one has a solution here yet..
-
Hi guys, I got win 8 memory leak where the system ate 99% of the memory.
Then I tried this solution Awareness Thread on Windows 8 Memory Leak with NDU.sys - www.hardwarezone.com.sg
I'm not sure this will solve the problem, anyone? -
It did for me, GT70.

Hey folks, I am an owner of the GS60 non pro since last friday. I have been following this thread for some time and it was an amazing help for me deciding for this laptop. I really like my new laptop, but I do have one issue. I've been trying to use the Microsoft Sculpt comfort mouse (Bluetooth) with this laptop and I just do not get it to work. After adding the mouse it worked for half a day, then lost connection and now it just stays "not connected" in the devices and Printers menu. When I try to add the mouse again it does not find the mouse when searching for Bluetooth devices, presumably because it is still added in the menu. When I try to remove the mouse to re add it, the status changes to "Remove failed" and the mouse remains in the menu. The only way to remove it is through the device manager, but it just keeps readding after a restart. Has someone experienced a similar problem or uses a Bluetooth mouse? Or any other suggestions? Thank you!
