Since I added a SSD to the free M.2 Slot and reinstalled Windows on the SSD my HDD spins down after each HDD access.
Though some programs access the hdd periodically it spins up and down multiple times per minute and I want to suppress that spin down.
Changing the APM with CrystalDiskInfo works! However the APM is reset to the instant spin down settings after each restart :-(
How can I change the APM settings permanently?
    Thank you!

What I do is I never turn the laptop off. Always on stand by or hibernate :)

Btw this thread has become so inactive lately since the introduction of 970m. :(

I've replaced the stock Intel AC-7260NGW wireless card in my GS60-012 with a Killer N1525 Wireless-AC.

If I closed the lid on the notebook putting it in sleep mode and opened it several hours later I'd have "no connections available"

I'd need to reboot or force a restart of the wireless card.

Driver 17.0.6 worked a lot better than the 17.1.0 but still had issues.

So far the Killer N1525 hasn't shown a sleep issue after waking several hours later.

Here's the N1525 thread in the Networking and Wireless forum.

Are you saying your "no connections available" issue happened before or after changing it out?

"So far the Killer N1525 hasn't shown a sleep issue after waking several hours later."

It happened with the M.2 Intel AC-7260NGW not the N1525 that I replaced it with.

This is either a H/W glitch on the card itself, or driver issue.
So Intel should be able to patch it if this can be easily duplicated by MSI.
Let me ask MSI and see if this is a known issue to them or not.
But glad that you were able to "resolve" this issue by replacing the card.

I bought this laptop about a month ago. In true MSI fashion of course my first notebook had to turn out to be a lemon. Spending $1.6k and getting this type of quality is just pathetic. I turned on my laptop to do some school work and all of a sudden My keyboard is acting like the Ctrl is constantly pressed. If I hit M with the browser open it minimizes the window. If I hit F it open 'Find on this page' opens up. What a nightmare. If I was still on the 30 day return policy this piece of junk would go back immediately. To think I waited months for it to be released.

    Your help is much appreciated.

First step...call tech support. They will help you check your settings, make sure it is clean (try using a can of compressed air to blow it out), maybe flash your EC, and if necessary, replace the keyboard.

They are not junk, and this kind of issue is easily fixed if you just seek help from either your dealer, or MSI directly.

    Hi.

I'm here because I'm having the wifi drop issue when using the dedicated GPU.
As far as I read this issue is still unsolved and MSI / Intel isn't doing anything to solve it. Did anyone find a solution? Or any tweak?

Last question: Only and all GS60 have this issue or there are a difereent serie of this computer which hasn't it?

In response of the "no connections available" bug after sleep/hibernate the PC, it only happens to me with the new drivers version (17.1.0.19)

    PC: GS60 2PE 044ES (GPU:870M, WIFI: Intel 7260AC)

Seems like the Windows key is triggered continuously no matter what you do.
Have you tried pressing that key to make sure it isn't locked down somehow?
If you bought this brand new, then contact MSI tech support as paladin44 mentioned to have the unit serviced.

WhatsThePoint reported the same symptom awhile back, he replaced his wifi card and it's good now.
It's possibly an issue with Intel driver, but it's up to Intel to release a new driver to resolve the issue.
You can help by reporting this issue to MSI as well so they can forward this concern and pressure onto Intel.

    Hey guys!

So I've had my gs60 3k for a while and I'm happy with it.
Today i realized my '-' seems to have something stuck under it because it kinda of makes a clicking sound whenever I press it.. Since I don't give a heavy use to this laptop I'm not sure when this happened, if something got stuck under there or something just went wrong with the key.

I want to know if u can remove the keys without opening the laptop or if someone had the same problem and how did they fixed it

    Thanks in advance

    Howdy all,

I've preordered a 1080p laptop but I have the option to switch to a 3K model (2880x1620). Both screens are matte IPS. I'd like to ask a few questions, if I may:

    1) Is running games at lower-than-native resolutions on a 1620p display noticeably worse quality than 1080p native?
    2) Is it possible to get away with having no scaling at native 1620p in Windows? Is that manageable?

    Cheers!

Last Friday I took the Intel AC-7260NGW out of my GS60 and replaced it with a Killer N1525 Wireless-AC card.

    So far so good....no disconnects.

On Windows 8.1 Pro x64 the wireless driver installed by Killer drover suite 1.1.47.1372 and Bluetooth driver installed without issue.

On the Windows 10 Technical Preview x64 I had to install the Bluetooth driver 1st before the wireless driver with the Network Manager for the Bluetooth to show up as the correct BT adapter.

No disconnect issues since installing the N1525.

File transfers across my home network average 10~15 MB/s faster than with the Intel AC-7260NGW

See this thread about the N1525.

    1) I have asked this question and ppl have mentioned it isn't that noticable.
    2) I would say that is a no unless you have like super human eyes! :)

How did you get a matte option btw for the 1620P resolution?

As someone who as that model

1- I dont think its noticeable
2- Of course .. I tried windows scaling and it sucked, so I just changed the font/menus size without scaling and it was good to go .

I'm getting the Gigabyte P35X v3. Both displays are confirmed to be matte. I'm asking these questions on the MSI forum because I know people here will have had lots of experience already with 15.6" 3K displays. Same can't be said for any of the other manufacturer sub-forums.

    Thanks for the answers!

You don't need to go to BIOS to change boot sequence. all you have to do is just press F11 at MSI logo and it will ask which boot device you want to use.

    I ordered these:
www.laptoplifts.com cheaper to buy them from their website (free shipping)
    Amazon Reviews: www.amazon.com/dp/B001LT2OAS

They have been around for a while and lots of praise for them. I got them to raise up my Ghost Pro to get some more air, so the bottom would not be getting so hot.

I'll post a review when I get them installed.

I have a GS60 2PE and I am not having the WiFi drop issue on my outdated G network at home. I am currently at a job site during the day and I notice spotty connection on their N network when I am at the edge of its signal strength. I haven't test at what signal strength the connectivity starts to drop. It's definitely a problem with the 7260 and/or drivers.

    I have a working 507. I'm using Svet's tool v2.87f to mod it myself.

I downloaded Sen7inel's files and yours from MSI GS60 Ghost Tweak Information (great thread by the way, Thanks!!!). I tried different temps and fan speeds on 504 and 505. I stayed away from 507 based on a few posts, but I finally took the plunge knowing I could roll back if needed.

I have used various mods of 507 and all of them work.

I've attached my 507 and a text file of it's numbers.

    Hope it is helpful.

Anyone out there tried the new firmware v03 for the touchpad from the MSI Global site?

The MSI Global site shows there is a new firmware dated 2014-08-19, but the US site doesn't list this firmware.
Global: MSI Global site for GS60 Ghost Pro
USA: MSI USA site for GS60 Ghost Pro

PDF Instructions warn that the firmware is only for certain models and not to flash as it might render the touchpad useless. This is standard, but it has me cautious.

Would there be a difference between US and Global models of the GS602PE?

EDIT 10/26/14: I found some older post where people were talking about new firmware for the trackpad. They didn't mention which site they got it from, but the dates of the posts were close to the date of the firmware release.

I gave it a shot an installed the firmware. Everything is working. It seems that there is an improvement in the touch response and touch tapping. Seems like a winner, or at least an improvement.

Hello all, I recently purchased the MSI Ghost in Thailand, the guys in the shop set it all up but now it keeps freezing, it has locked up 4 times today already, I don't know what the issue is, it fore when in full screen YouTube twice, twice when trying download the latest nvidia drivers (in the nvidia geforce experience) and once whilst running Adobe premier. Everything else on the laptop seems to be working fine, any idea on what the issue could be, i tried looking through the thread already but there was too many pages to read it all (so sorry if the subject has already been dealt with).

Thanks in advance for any help, I will do my best to answer any questions you ask :)

    PLEASE HELP.
    ISSUE WITH THE CPU FAN.
I just bought MSI GS60 2PC (GHOST). Basically the CPU FAN (Right side) is constantly ON. I bought this as a MAC substitute for taking it to lectures, but with this noise I can't. Like it's not terribly bad, if u r watching a film it's fine, but if u r sitting in an auditorium then it's too loud. The thing is that it's CONSTANTLY ON (CPU FAN), even if I'm just browsing internet. Whenever I'm opening a program it sounds like a mini jet engine.
So are they meant to be like this (in this case it's going back to the shop), or it's just this particular faulty fan.
Coz I LOVE IT, but this sound makes it USELESS.
    THANX

Hey guys I need help from people who actually have this laptop! I'm looking to purchase a new gaming laptop and I'm seriously looking at this MSI. I've seen people complain about the touchpad and fan noise, so I get it. The big thing for me is that I will use the laptop to hook into my projector/receiver home theater via HDMI. Can anyone confirm that the laptop uses the GPU for hdmi out? If not, that's probably a dealbreaker for me.

My budget is about $1500. I'm coming from an Asus G73JW. Before that, Alienware M17x r1 (which replaced my Dell m1730 the original BEAST), and before that a Dell 9100. I'm no stranger to gaming laptops, and I am heavily debating 15" and 17". Touch screen is nice but not 100% necessary. I'm also researching the Lenovo Y50/70 touch. Not sure I really care about the 3K/4K screens (my eyes suck).

Any help you can provide me is much appreciated! I've been with NBR forever so thanks in advance :).

If you have a GS60 with NVIDIA 8xxM graphics card you most likely have an M.2 form factor Intel AC-7260NGW,not an AC-7260HMW which is a mini pci-e model.

The only wireless card that I know of right now that can replace an M.2 AC-7260NGW is a Killer N1525 Wireless-AC but it may be difficult to locate a dealer where you can buy one.

Possibly next month the Intel AC-7265 that is also M.2 form factor will be available.

If you are having issues with your Intel AC-7260NGW then contact the place you bought your notebook from or MSI to get it replaced.

My GS60 2PC CPU is running at 65-67 Celcius during idling (only downloading is running), GPU is around 52-55 celcius, with the orange colour button on, assuming it is running on Nvidia. Is this ok?

For those interested, I've modified the latest .507 EC for a quieter idle cpu fan operation as well as more effective gpu cooling while gaming.

    View attachment 507.zip

As always, unzip into the official MSI .507 update and replace 16H2EMS1.507 with mine, then flash as usual.

I did notice that like .505, .507 does not let the fan speed drop below 45%, thus ~2750rpms is the lowest we can go.

    Enjoy :hi2:

Maybe 1-3 times a day, my screen will flicker for about 10 seconds and then go black. When the screen goes black, i can still see that the backlight is still on, just there's no image on the screen. I plugged my laptop into my tv via hdmi, and my screen showed up on the tv. when i unplugged my laptop again, everything was fine, until the screen flickered and went black again about 3 hours later. The same "fix" of briefly connecting my laptop to my tv still worked.

So far, this issue has only happened when I was not playing games, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the intel graphics? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers. For nvidia, do a clean install

The temperatures are fine, but you shouldn't be on nvidia gpu if you're not doing something graphically intensive (aka, playing a game). Check nvidia control panel to see why you're on the dedicated instead of integrated gpu...that should also help lower the cpu temps a bit (mine never really go above 62C, under max load...... but mine cpu is also repasted and undervolted).

They should be on the drivers disc included with the computer. Otherwise you can download them directly from MSI.

Anyone got any ideas how to fix a buzzing sound GPU whenever I play games. Its definitely not a fan problem.

I checked my nvidia control panel, which I have previously set the global settings to Nvidia by default. Now, I have selected as "Auto Select" where I have only specifically set certain programs(games) to use the Nvidia. Whereas the rest should run by Integrated Graphics by default.

Yet, I still see the "orange" light on the power button.
