I solved the problem. I changed 802.11 Channel for both 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz to 20Mhz, turned U-APSD off. and it worked

Hi all, I'm really considering getting the 4K model. How do you all like yours? Are there any serious drawbacks or dealbreakers to the machine?

    Wow, great.
Did you have to do both options? What if you just change the length to 20MHz and leave U-APSD alone? Or the other way around?

Turning off U-APSD is only necessary with certain routers.I have it enabled pairing AC-7260 cards with a Netgear R7000 router.
    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034875.htm?wapkw=ac-7265

If you use the 2.4 ghz band the the 20mhz channel width is a good choice with the Intel AC-7260.

Be careful of that tweaking guide.I don't agree with all it's suggested settings.

    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025393.htm

    You should:
Change 2.4ghz band Channel Width to 20hz only if using that band
    Leave HT Mode on VHT
Preferred Band - Mixed unless using only 5ghz
Roaming Aggressiveness - lowest if connecting to only 1 router
    Transmit power - highest
    Wireless mode - a/b/g

In the wireless card's power management uncheck the "turn off to save power"box

In the notebook's bios try turning off Speed Stepping

Control Panel Power Option on High Performance.

In the router setup choose best channels for both bands.

If your router has QoS settings make sure WMM is enabled for both bands

Same as I mentioned in post #4256

I'm waiting for an Intel AC-7265NGW to arrive to test on the GS60 that had sleep and disconnect issues with the stock Intel AC-7260NGW

I also have an M.2 to pcie adapter coming so I can also test M.2 wireless cards in an older GT780DX and a desktop model.

In the GS60 now is a Killer N1525 that runs perfectly on a Windows 8.1 Pro x64 installation with performance suite 1.1.48.1376

Understood, check the SN or HW revision on the cards to see if there's any differences.

    @Fox2525
The NGW in AC-3160NGW name means it's an M.2(aka NGFF) form factor wireless card and will work in the GS60 but why would you want to use it.

The AC-3160NGW is limited to half the theoretical link speed of the AC-7260NGW,AC-7265NGW and Killer N1525.(866 Mbps vs 433 Mbps)

M.2 cards can be used in notebooks to replace mini pcie cards with the use of an M.2 to pcie adapter.

The battery time on the ghost is limited so I'm thinking of buying a small external battery charger for places where I can't reach a power plug..
Does anyone have experience with those or even recommend a few?

Ok,after several days testing Intel wireless driver version 17.13.2.2 I think it's the best one yet for my AC-7260 cards.

An AC-7265NGW will arrive today and it will be going into a GS60 for testing.

    Hi all,

    I just bought the GS60 2PC Ghost!

Yesterday I was trying to upgrade the 1TB HDD that comes with it by a SSD 256GB disk by Samsung (samsung ssd 840 pro).

After I reboot the Laptop don´t recognizes the newly inserted SSD...I go to BIOS and nothing there...

Did someone run into the same issue? I expect to be plug and play and not pray.

    Cheers

Is the bios on Legacy or UEFI?

Are there other SSDs in the M.2 slots

    Which OS did you install?

Is it a clean install from Windows Installation files on a USB flash drive created using an untouched ISO and Microsoft USB/DVD
    Tool?

In the bios there should be UEFI boot order listings:

    #1 Hard Disk:Windows Boot
    #2 USB CD/DVD
    #3 USB Hard Disk
    #4 Network

    Hi WTP,

My model has 1TB HDD and 128GB m.2 SSD.

The 1TB HDD is clean (from factory) and the Samsung SSD was installed in another laptop, so it has Windows OS in one partition and personal data in the other partition. This SSD is working fine in another laptop and the 1TB HDD is detected fine also. Only when I swap HDD by SSD it wont detect the SSD on BIOS.

    BIOS is on EUFI mode.

    Thanks for the support!

With the 2 SSDs installed at the same time you will need to pick which drive the notebook boots to in the Hard Drive Preferences at the bottom of the bios boot order screen.

You can also pick which drive to boot to by tapping the f11 key on bootup

    I have a 120 GB 2.5" OCZ SSD with Windows 10 Preview and a 256GB Crucial M550 M.2 SSD with Windows 8.1 in my GS60 2PL

I have the bios set to boot to Windows 8.1

If I want Windows 10 Preview I tap the f11 key on booting and choose the 128Gb OCZ SSD

I put my 1TB hard drive in a external USB enclosure and use it for storage

If it were my SSD I'd clean it off with a full format then install then OS.

After the OS is installed a

    Hi WTP,

Thanks for your explanation. Nevertheless it does not address my problem.

My problem is that I replaced the 1TB HDD with the SSD and the SSD is not detected at all in the BIOS.
After I swap HDD with SSD the only drive I see in the BIOS is the 128GB m.2!

I know that the SSD is OK because I use it on another computer and also on portable disk case and no issues.
I know that the MB is OK because 1TB disk work fine.

I updated SSD Firmware, BIOS, EC Firmware, played with all the BIOS options and still SSD not recognized... :(

Does anyone had this kind of issue?

    Thank you in advance!

Have you tried looking in Windows to see if it's recognized? Right click on my pc, click manage and then search for your drive. I don't recall the bios recognizing my drive at first either but you need to initialize it in order to use it.

In the bios when you click on EUFI Hard Drive BBS Priorities how many drives are listed?

With 2 drives in the notebook there should be a #1 and a #2

If there is only 1 listed then there a problem with the drive and it should be secure erased and formatted

Maybe the Samsung Magician software can fix the drive if it's still not seen in the bios.

EDIT:if the 840Pro was in a different computer that did not have bios set to EUFI the drive will not show up in a bios that is set to EUFI.

Indeed the SSD was in another older laptop with no UEFI.

It is the first time that I use UEFI Bios and I had no clue about this. So what should I do in order to get it working in UEFI? Format with some special options?

Thank you very much for your support!

It doesn't matter whether or not the drive is formatted to UEFI - it will still be detected once plugged in. It might not be detected by the bios because of that reason, but it doesn't matter unless you are booting from it(which I'm assuming you are not). Did you go into "Disk Management" in Windows and search for the drive like I suggested? If it doesn't show up there, it's probably a compatibility/hardware issue. Even unformulated drives will show up in Disk Management. You can also try a bootable version of parted magic to try and detect and then secure erase the disk, but I have a tough time believing that's the issue.

Can you please snap a picture of where you are looking to conclude that it's not being detected?

You have to boot from Win7 or Win8 installation media (CD/DVD or USB) and boot off UEFI-enabled entry, then proceed with installation using GPT partition.
For Win7, you have to set the BIOS to UEFI+CSM mode. For Win8, just UEFI mode will do.

I have been having a weird issue with my keyboard typing correctly. When I type "LM" in quick succession than it will not type the "M" (This happens on several keys in combination with M). Anyone else experiencing this issue? It sucks when I type "ALM" a bunch at work!

Do you recommend to switch to the new Intel AC-7265NGW? My original stock AC-7260NGW has problems to connect to any Network if the signal is weak (Whereas every smart phone or notebook is doing fine at the same position)

My 1st recommendation would be a Killer N1525 Wireless-AC especially if you transfer files across devices on your home network but they are very hard to find

Have you tried driver v17.13.2.2 for the Intel AC-7260?

I've only had the AC-7265NGW in my GS60 for 24 hours but so far so good paired with a Netgear R7000 router. and using the 5ghz band

This is a driver issue, as WhatsThePoint said, update to the latest Intel WLAN 17.13.2.2 driver and see if it works better.
    Download

If you still have issues after driver update, then change Width to 20MHz, and disable U-APSD under Advanced in the driver properties.

I also bought the card, I am using it in my Gs60 with an Fritzbox 7270 and I am not happy with it ... I´ve got the same issues like with the 7260, I ordered the card from mouser like you.The 7265 only works with the tweak settings provided in another thread. But sometimes have the same ugly laag spikes and disconnects. So even the msi support won´t send me a killer card ... even if i would pay for it ... they advice me to send the laptop in to RMA it ....

Is the Fritzbox 7270 router 802.11n or 802.11ac?

If the router is not AC 1750 or 1900 performance may suffer.

I didn't change any settings in the AC-7265 Advanced settings yet since it's doing very well except for Bluetooth.

If you don't use the 2.4ghz band on your notebook leave the 2.4ghz channel width setting on AUTO
    HT Mode = VHT
    Transmit Power = Highest
    U-APSD support = Disabled
Preferred Band = 5ghz unless using 2.4ghz also
    Roaming Aggressiveness = Lowest
    Throughput Booster = Enabled
    Wireless Mode = 802.11 a/b/g

In the Wireless Card Power Management uncheck the "turn off to save power" box

If the Router Settings has QoS option make sure WMM is enabled for both bands

    Other things to try:
Computer Power Option = High Performance
    Bios Speed Stepping = Disabled

Just for anyone that does a search on this thread. I did this on a MSI GS60 Ghost Pro-044US I followed that video link for the most part for replacing the m.2. I replaced mine with a crucial 550 m.2 type 2280 512GB. Overall, the process itself is relatively straightforward. Some things to keep in mind:

-Take it slow, spending an hour (about how long it took me) is worth making sure $2,050 still works afterwards,
-Remember where all the ribbons went and to plug them all back in
-Keep the screws separate so you know where to put them back in
-The orange orange audio cable is held in magnetically. There is not a flap you have to pull back like in the other ribbons. You will have to pull it down. I ended up removing all of the screws so I could take out the mobo more and see it better before I pulled it out.
-The wifi cables are on the module are fairly loose and easy to displace. This is why there is a yellow tape holding them down. Make sure you secure the cables properly. I've read about other people complaining how their card works in and out so they may have an loose connection there.
-If you plan on using both m.2 slots, you will need to have a second M2 screw. The laptop does not come with an additional M2 screw and the crucial card I ordered from Amazon did not come with one. The Ace Hardware near me only went down to M4.
-I ended up removing the black stickered cables near one of the fans so I could work on the otherside of the mobo better. This allowed me to actually get a screwdriver in there rather then trying to use a small bit to tighten/loosen the M2 screw.
-If you can, have a second computer up with the video. You will be able to pause the video if you have any doubts.
-Windows 8.1 will not automatically pick up the BigFoot drivers. An ethernet cable will not work. Have the drivers ready in a usb to save time.

Not sure if this has been answered yet, but if I want a 3K screen and 6gb of VRAM, is it possible to just get one and then swap the FHD screen for a 3K screen?

The 1st time I did it to install an M.2 SSD I took a high resolution photo of the exposed guts of the notebook and then printed it out.

I marked the steps on the photo during disassembly then used the last step back to step 1 for assembly.

Worked well for me without any senior moments.

Hey guys, just recieved mine today.
I've done some light searching in this thread but found no answer: Is there any way to stop the battery form charging above a certain %?

The last laptop I had was a samsung chronos7 which would stop charging at 80%. Right now my ghostpro is at 100%, which doesn't put my mind at ease.
The only way I knew how to change this was through samsung's EasySettings program, but the equivalent from MSI (system control manager) is way too simple and doesn't show an option like that. Even in advanced energy options I can't seem to find this feature.

Is there any way (3rd party programs if need be) to establish a battery % limit?
    Thanks in advance.

MSI does this automatically... you will notice once it's charged and plugged in, it will say "plugged in, not charging" and cycle between approximately 95%. No need for third party software, MSI has this built in.

I've used mine for over 8 months without issue, battery health is still great.

95 to 99% is reserved and will not charge further for battery protection.
No 3rd party software available but someone with in-depth knowledge can tap into EC to control it.

It got up to 99% for a while and it was still charging (pic below, reads "plugged in, charging"), 10 minutes later I looked again and it was at 100% so I removed the charger.

I'm going to bed and test it again tomorow. Isn't there an option to activate/deactivate/change it in any way?

The manufacturer has to make the software, otherwise there's no way to do it.
