Hey, responded in the other thread, do you have those prices reversed by chance? Either will be a great machine for what you said you needed, but the Gold version had better specs.

Hi all!
i've a GS60 2PC, with BIOS E16H2IMS.103 and EC 16H2EMS1.503, and expecting some fan speed improvements, i decided to update both of them.
I think my mistake was that i update first the EC to the version 507, because now, i would like to update BIOS to version 111, but the problem is that i can't enter into the BIOS Menu by pressing "Del" key. When the MSI logo appears, i press it several times, and also tried with Fx keys but nothing, it just goes into Windows.
What could i do to access BIOS? I need it to go to the UEFI BIOS Setup to update the Bios with my USB.
Thank you very much in advance!!
-
Pretty sure it's F2 and not Delete. YOu can also access the UEFI settings from the advanced startup menu in Windows 8. There's an option to boot straight into the UEFI from there. It's different between Win8 and Win8.1 but there are directions online as to the step by step process.
-
Many thanks Xentar712!!
I couldn't do it with F2 or Delete, but i entered with the advanced startup menu as you told me, and i've updated the bios!
Thanks again!

So I have my 3k 860m back after the 2º RMA because of wifi issues and the wifi seems to work wonderfully now..
BUT
I noticed that when i ran a speed test while the gpu was under load the speed would drop to about half of normal speed.. even in a game that didn't require internet.. Jesus Im getting so fed up with this laptop, the WiFi is really getting annoying.
Anyone had a similar problem and managed to solve it? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Can you post graphs of the GPU behaviour from a program like MSI afterburner showing temperatures and speeds and post screenshots of this under the load? This is the fastest way to get the data so the best answer can be given to you.
Also specify what programs you are seeing this in. -

Which card is it, and have you tried another driver(s)? -
I have the intel 7260 but for some reason the issue seems to have disappeared even though I did nothing x) ...
This card seems to be ****ty tho when away from the router a bit even tho other laptops keep getting nice speed and that's why I will still buy the Killer N1525 when I have some money to spare and test it out but for now its seems ok
I appreciate your help -
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Driver issues plague the 7260AC quite a bit. It's a darn fine card, just buggy software. Hopefully the new card treats you well.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
So long you update the driver to the latest version you should be less likely to encounter issues.
7260 is a great hardware and Intel tunes up with better update with each release. -
I got a GS60 2QE and there are a few flaws in this lovely notebook. I hope some of you may be able to give me a hand with my concerns.
1) The annoying fans
Let's face it. MSI has made a terrible job with the fan curve and fan always on is not going to cut it for me.
I installed Fan Control Tools By Pherein and RW Everything. Everything with that is working properly and thank you so much ti20n for your post. I tweaked a fan profile to my liking and it's great and it was very easy too.
The problem with the fan control tools is that it doesn't apply automatically, I always have to switch it on. I have added tasks in Windows task scheduler that will automatically activate my profile when my computer starts or after it returns from sleep. These do work but there are some random events that will mess up the profile. For example if I close the lid the default fan profile will apply and fan starts to roam when the lid is closed. Also if I unplug the notebook from AC the fan starts. I don't know if it's possible to add these in to task scheduler. Is there any way to apply the custom fan profile for good? I've been searching and there is no custom EC profile for GS60 2QE is there?
2)Hating the dragon badge thing
Has any of you tried to rip off the bezel from screen? Apparently it's possible to take the screen out and stab the bloody dragon out of its place. I tried to rip the bezel off but it's pretty thight and my nails are in pain atm. I'm going to give it another shot. Just wondering if anyone has tried to remove the screen.
Thanks in advance for your answers. And if anyone is wonder how the scheduled tasks were made I can give a short guide. -
Can't help with the fans but I was able to get a friend's badge off by applying heat and carefully(and slowly) pulling on one of the flat edges. If you want to preserve your badge, go as slow as possible so that the glue comes with it otherwise you'll risk ripping the decal off off the back of the plastic. If you don't care about keeping the badge, just tear away - it's only held on by glue and it can be cleaned off after the fact. Just make sure you have something to cover up the hole because your panel will now be exposed.
-
Thanks for the reply and tips Xentar. I assume you took the screen off yes? How was that? Im a bit nervous about taking the bezel off since it needs a bit force.
As for the badge, im just propably going to store it and maybe put it back if im ever going to sell the machine. -
Yes, it's a real pain in the butt but doable if you have experience. The bezel is held on by tape mostly. Once you get that loosened, there are some delicate clips you have to deal with but it's not big deal. The bezel is super thin and flexible so it really is just a matter of getting a clip undone and then working in a clockwise fashion to get the others undone. There's a youtube video on the GS70 screen replacement. It's virtually identical except that model they didn't use tape for some reason. Lucky them.
If you mess up some clips, there was a member that bought a replacement from MSI. I forget who but he posted about it in either this thread or the 970M version one. -

Awesome, thank you. -
Any word how the new EC firmware changes the fan schedule? Here's the changelog:
1.Fix keyboard repeat rate issue
2.Modify GPU Fan table follow Thermal team request.
This is for the GS60 2QE -64 variant. -
Have you looked into SVET's EC-Tuner. It allows you to modify the EC image and adjust the fan curve. This starts with the system and is independent of any windows settings. The software works really well in my experience.

Does anyone know where I can source a new speaker module (all 3 speakers) for the GS60, I overdrove them the other day and partially blew out the sub and right speaker. I've gone to some other forums with the question but no one seems to know. Much appreciated.
-
I've heard of people contacting MSI to source replacement components. Please let us know if you succeed. I've been meaning to replace my left speaker since it's noticeably quieter than my right. I've been too lazy to contact them since it's really not that important to me.
I'm curious how you know your subwoofer blew out. I've been trying to even verify it's existence since I have no control of its volume and I couldn't locate it at all when opening the system up. I've even watched teardown videos and I can's see a subwoofer in any of the pictures. I've just assumed the subwoofer was a lie(or a mistake in marketing) -
Thanks for the heads up, I'll contact MSI. I was running some speaker tests and all of a sudden a heard a disconcerting pop. Now when I play anything through the internal speakers it has the distinct sounds of blown speakers...
As for placement the "sub" is centerline at the back of the system. It's in between the processor and GPU exhaust. -
Ah ok, I've always just considered those second speakers since normal sounds came from them. Are you able to control the sub volume in sound settings or just through sound blaster software?
-
I've only seen noticeable changes through the soundblaster software... that's why I put "sub" in quotes in really isn't in my opinion, but from my understanding that is what MSI marketing likes it to be.
-
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Their design may be that the sub is a not a dedicated sub (not a true 2."1" channel system), but rather a low pass filter.
-
Completely possible...
I was able to speak to MSI today about getting a replacement speaker module, 6-8 weeks if they can even procure it for me. Also, both members of the support team I spoke to were rather rude not sure if anyone has had similar experiences with them. Great laptop, but their customer service needs some serious work. -
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Your mileage may vary; everyone has varying experiences with just about every OEM's support. Did they say whether they will follow up with you on the replacement speaker or not? -
Hi everyone! I am in dire need of your help! :'(
I've been a proud owner of a ghost pro for nearly a year now, and recently I've encountered a problem with the screen. On random occasions, it'll just turn off. The backlight is still on, and the laptop is still running, but the screen will just be completely black. I'll need to put it to sleep and start it up again to bring it back. Now, the problem had just started yesterday, but it's becoming more and more frequent. I've tried to run checks on windows - nothing. I've tried system restore, and even resorted to wiping and resetting the laptop entirely - the problem persists! I'm running out of ideas now. I honestly thought it might have been something to do with the graphics driver, or a windows update installing incorrectly, but now... I have no idea
Please help me. -
I agree, the mileage can vary for sure, I was just surprised with the reps I spoke with. They did say they would get back to me regarding whether or not I could outright buy the speakers... just waiting for the reply.
-
Can you run the display to an external source through the HDMI to see whether or not it is the hardware, i.e. the video card or the display itself?
-
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Though it does sound like hardware fault, this would be a good way to test either way. -
My Msi GhostPro started to shut it self off when a certain GPU Temperatur value is met!
Isn't it actually supposed to throttle? I repasted a few days ago with Coolaboratory liquid Pro and i seem to have ****ed up a little (too little Liquid? Not clean enough?) but i thought that the nvidia gpu would throttle when too hot and not just simple shut off as if you would remove battery and charger xD
Is this standard behaviour or do i have some sort of Problem with my hardware? Additionally i actually have the feeling it already shuts off at around 85°C
Someone an idea? -
I don't have one to test it on I'm afraid. I'm currently studying in Germany so I'm trying to contact them for assistance and crossing my fingers that they'll agree to take it in for repair. I think it is definitely the hardware - I've completely wiped my machine twice now, and the issue is still here. I have no error messages, though, which strikes me as very odd. If something should malfunction, shouldn't it be reported? As of now I have no idea whether it's the screen itself or the graphics card going haywire.

I am having an issue after a fresh install of Windows. I added two 256gb SSDs and then installed Windows onto one of them. I'm having trouble enabling RAID0 right now, but my biggest problem is that after installing Windows the scaling for everything is wrong. The resolution correctly shows 1920x1080 however my system icons are large, and the text is blurry. What is causing this? And how do I even enable RAID0?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Enable RAID mode in the BIOS, then create RAID 0 array using both drives, see below.
-
::EDIT:: Thanks I had just followed that method and was about to post my solution for those having a similar issue.
I've also figured out the blurry text issue through here. Now all that's left is to install all the drivers and software! -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
What's the version of driver you used? And what model of GS60 do you have? -
Thanks Kevin but I have found my solution and have edited my post so that those with similar issues can solve it. I appreciate your help throughout all this! Thank you again!
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Great, have a good one and enjoy!
-
I have a bios Problem aswell! From time to time (once every 2 days or so) one of my Stock not even one year old ssd in raid0 fail. The problem is temporarily solved when i switch into Legacy mode then it says that everything is alright, then switch back to UEFI and it boots absolutely normal for that day! Quite weired xDD

Hi all. I'm a MSI GS60 2PE GHOST PRO owner. I was thinking about upgrading the built-in M.2 SSD (Hitachi HFS128G38MNB-2200A) and I've seen this one. Is that SSD compatible with the notebook? If so, could I buy two of them to take advantage of RAID? If the Crucial doesn't work with the notebook, could you please tell me one model (not obligatory Crucial) that works for sure? Btw, I'm from Italy so I'd like to buy the SSD from an Italian or European store (to avoid custom fees).
Thanks! -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Do a factory recovery and see if it keeps the issue away for a longer period.
Looks like it's compatible since it's a SATA-based M.2 SSD, but not PCIe.
http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/support/TechFAQdetail.aspx?formid=3124
You will only need to make sure both of the physical form factor and signal are compatible with MSI's NB then you should be okay. -
Well MSI got back to me with pricing the left and right speakers are $15.00 + S&H and the rear speaker is the same price... the prices are definitely acceptable, I just have to wait 6-8 weeks to get it... patience i guess.
-
Hi Kevin, I'm wondering if there is an additional slot in the GS60 that can accomodate this m.sata USB adapter. I've currently got both my m.2 sata slots occupied with two Sandisk X110 SSDs in Super Raid, and am planning on replacing my Intel Wireless card with a Killer 1525, but am unsure if there would be an available slot for an internal USB jack.

Do all GS60s have an IPS screen on the default config?
I can get a MSI GS60 2PL 061US (850M) for a pretty okay price, but I was wondering if it had an IPS Display? -
Prostar Computer Company Representative
The stock configuration per MSI's page doesn't appear to advertise an IPS panel. You should contact the seller or MSI directly to verify the info.
There are compatible IPS panels available for it, even if the default config/your seller doesn't offer it with the IPS screen. -
Hi everybody,
I would like to get the MSI GS60 2QD that comes with i7+GTX965M and since i read here and there about the temperature issues i'm kind of sceptic :/
Does anyone have the model with the GTX965M how does it run?
I'll not run having games on it, only some online fifa15 for exemple. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
The temperature is not an issue. It's more like thermal limitation which throttles down the GPU performance.
If you encounter such issue then you will need to reduce graphics quality to obtain optimal and consistent performance. -
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Heat was more of a concern on previous models. The current generation handles heat fairly well, especially thanks to the new 965M.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
965M is perfect for GS60, if it's 970M then it will have more throttling issue due to the same level of thermal capacity.
