Its the Intel one. To be honest I don't really want to open it up to replace the card, might as well just throw in one of the nano usb adapters.

Is there a significant improvement in the 5th gen intel cpu? Thinking of getting a gs60 but not sure whether to get a 4th gen with 970m or 5th gen with 965m

Go with the 970m. Broadwell is a minor jump but the difference in gpu performance is pretty significant.

Yep, I agree, the 970m is simply fantastic. It's a much bigger improvement than the Broadwell CPU bump if you need to choose one or the other.

Thanks, I've go the GS60 now but when I go to the Bios to set the BBS priority, I only have one option there callead "Windows Boot Manager". Do you know why this is and how I can make my 2.5" drive to be the primary boot drive?

You have to install Windows on the other drive so a boot manager would be there as well. The bios won't recognize it as a boot option until you do

Thanks, I've got it working now, but instead of them both being called "Windows Boot Manager", do you know if its possible to rename them so the actual hard drive names show up?

So my GS60 has this problem where when I press a specific spot on the laptop its makes kinda of a cracking sound. It's not that big of a deal but is a bit annoying since a lot of times I just pick up the laptop with one hand from that side to put it in the bag and makes that noise.. Here's a quick vid of the sound it makes : https://vid.me/rqlL

Do you guys know what might be happening and would it be a easy fix?

It could be that the plastic clip on the inside broke, and the two sides of the cover are clipping each other to make that sound. can you see any movement of the cover when you apply pressure?

The movement seems to be the same on the side that makes this sound and the other side of the laptop which is ok. Looking from the outside it doesn't seem to exist a visual difference when applying pressure on the two different sides.

Are all the screws tight that hold the bottom plate including the keyboard screw and the bottom plate securely snapped to the case.
Is the bezel around the screen snapped together all the way around

I have this problem because I broke a clip on my bezel when putting it back together. It's only on the right side of my computer and only when I grab it in the middle.

All the screws seem to be ok its probably the same problem as yours..
So there's no way to fix it then ? I doesn't bother me enough to RMA it but would be nice to fix it

Hopefully it is a major leap in performance, but price will definitely drop for existing platform.

I installed the 2133Mhz ram and ran some benchmarks. I'm still working on my review, but to make a long story short, don't waste your money. I ran numerous benchmarks and games and could not tell the difference at all. It did run at 2133Mhz though but keep in mind I installed it on a Broadwell machine and I still am not convinced it would work on Haswell.

My current GS60 has everything in terms of performance but I don't like the matte screen, I would like to to get it with a glossy screen and my RMA has been accepted. I was going to get the 4k version which is the only one that comes with a glossy screen, but I only just found out that it has a 48hz refresh rate (even though my resolution will be set to 1080p only). Has anyone got the 4k version and what do you think about the refresh rate? Is the 12hz difference noticeable?

If I had to choose between the matte fhd and glossy 4k, I would choose the fhd screen 100 times over again. Between scaling issues, poor refresh rate and odd yellows, I could never get used to it. It's not worth paying more money for. That said, I doubt most would notice the 12Hz difference but it still exists. I personally can notice if they're side by side, but it's subtle.

Now that I've finished up my water cooled pc build, I think I'm going to go ahead and reformat my Ghost Pro because I'm still having the system lag/stuttering problems, as well as high CPU and Memory usage issues. (You can read about those by looking at my history in this thread).

Usually, I tend to completely reformat drives as soon as I get them. However, I understand that our laptops have a recovery function to take them back to factory settings ( believe this is through the F3 function?). I'd like to try that first, to see if the issues re-present themselves (and if so, then I'll do a complete reformat).

But before doing so, I'm looking for any advice about the process. Is there a comprehensive guide available to walk through the important parts of the process? Such as, which drivers to pay specific attention to, what to do first/last, any after-tweaking, etc.

    Thanks everyone.

Just an FYI, I got around to putting the HyperX 2133Mhz Ram into a Haswell model. It booted just fine. Timings were 11-12-13-35 but the frequency was limited to 1000Mhz on each module(2000Mhz total). Not bad but not great either, as it doesn't make a whole lot of difference in real life.

It's worth checking elsewhere as CPU-Z can sometimes not pick it up correctly.

Anyone have a recommendation of whether to jump onto the Windows 10? Or should we wait a little bit while some of the drivers get resolved? Any input is greatly appreciate because I am hoping to make the jump tomorrow.

    Reasons to switch:
    Scaling is better?
Currently I have 35-50% of my 16GB memory just gone on a machine running no games and just a few basic windows programs

    Reasons not to switch:
Bluetooth has issues installing but can be installed if done in proper order? On the Windows 10 Technical Preview x64 I had to install the Bluetooth driver 1st before the wireless driver with the Network Manager for the Bluetooth to show up as the correct BT adapter. http://forum.notebookreview.com/posts/9808338/

Tried MaxMEM and it detected 2128Mhz. The latest CPU-Z says 1064.2, so that matches up. The SPD tab still says 1000Mhz though

There are a few users like you who might had similar issues but MSI usually will take care of them if they don't find trace of any mistreatment.

Toshiba is compatible with MSI connector, they are very much identical.

For sure most of current models will receive Win10 updates, but they could not give any confirmation on the release date. So just sit tight and wait. :)

My numlock key is no longer on after startup (happened after Windows 10 upgrade) and I have to turn it on manually. That happens only if I turn Ghost on, if I only restart, numlock is on.

I have checked BIOS (numlock is on) and I have edited registry (usual tweaks from internet). Editing registry worked on my desktop computer (HP) but it didn´t do anything on GS 60.

It´s not a super major problem but I would still like to have this "fixed". Any ideas?

My upgrade to Windows 10 went really good too. It actually fixed Mortal Kombat X screen flickers. The only problem was it needed to get drivers for Ethernet so luckily WiFi worked.

Hi! A little bit of a problem - I left my laptop running all night, and when I woke again it won't boot pass BIOS. I've got nothing plugged in, and currently got my windows installed on the SSD (mSATA).

Hey, if someone made the jump to Windows 10 and is looking for drivers or utilities he can try out the newer GS70 2QE Stealth Pro (Broadwell) ones:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GS70-2QE-Stealth-Pro-5.html#down-driver&Win10 64
The drivers and utilities I tried are working fine as far I can tell, but I haven't installed all of them (Dragon Gaming Center, SCM). The only issues I had left are with SoundBlaster Cinema 2 - it wasn't starting up - but now you can find a Windows 10 version of it in the mobo section with the Z97 Gaming 7, which is working well for me:
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-GAMING-7.html#down-utility&Win10 64

If we do the Windows 10 upgrade, and decide that we don't like it, can the F3 function be used to reformat back to Windows 8?

I don't necessarily mean "downgrade", I mean start over with a fresh install of Windows 8.

I just want to verify that performing the upgrade to 10 does not in any way cause an issue with the recovery partition/F3 option.

Installing another operating system won't affect the recovery partition. I just did this with another machine and it reverted to win 8 just fine

    Hello guys,
So from what I have read, some people are getting 4 hours of battery life just browsing the web on the Ghost Pro. I have a 2QE Ghost Pro with an i5700 and 970m 3GB GPU and I'm only getting 2.5 hours with power saving on, brightness nearly all the way down running only Chrome with 3 tabs. I contacted MSI and they said its normal and I can extend my battery life by turning on power saving even after I have told them numerous times it is already on power saving.
I am curious to see what everyone else is getting for battery life on power saving and on balanced with a few tabs open.

Also, would you guys recommend a power bank for extra battery life, or to just get a chrome book?

The 4k screen is worse than the 3k one. 2.5 hours is about right

Actually? Jeez... the GS60 is a near perfect notebook, all it needs is at least another 1.5 hours of battery life. Heck, I wouldn't even mind another pound added to the weight for it.

Oh well, I will just look at a power bank or a Chromebook. Thanks!

Another thing, I just did a battery report and after not even a month of having the laptop, my battery health is at 89%. Is that normal? I usually drain my battery to 55% if it is unplugged. Occasionally it has gone a bit lower.

Unplug the AC adapter, then use the pin to perform EC reset, then plug in the power and try again.

Hey guys. I've ordered a gs60 ghost pro-605 4k screen with 5th gen i7 yesterday but it looks like the 4k version has some yellow color issues and frame rate locked at 48hz. Have they fixed these issues with the newer model or should I still be worried about this? I would hate to pay extra only to have a screen worse than the 1080p version. Should I could cancel this laptop and order the gs60 ghost pro-606 FHD 1080p version? I've had bad experience with y50 and yoga 2 pro and I am worried I might face the same issue with the bad screens.

Thanks for reading and I hope to hear back from anyone soon!

    Regards. :)
