Is anyone experiencing issues with the USB ports randomly disconnecting and re-connecting? I have this issue with the Logitech universal unifier dongle for example. For no apparent reason it starts to go in a disconnect/connect loop. Rebooting sometimes fixes the issue. It happens while the computer is idle, or during game play. Is that a known issue with a solution? I have looked around and couldn't find info on this.

    Hi,

I am wondering how you customized the VBIOS? Did you use any software?

There's a KB issue referring to this for Windows 8.1, try it and see if it helps.
Some USB devices do not recharge in Windows 8.1

I saw this too but it is only available on 15 EUR donation :/

Happens to me too sometime. Just wondering, do you still have the MSI Windows copy or you have formatted? I did format on my side and I though I could just have miss setup a driver or something

Then I have no idea what is causing this. Anyway, it is not too annoying on my side as it really doesn't happen often and it only happened with my mouse and by reconnecting it would fix the problem.

If i connect to a 2.4Ghz WiFi N then i will get max 54Mbps (and that results in only about 25Mb/s connection when doing speed tests)
And that is quite annoying if you ask me, because my internet connection is 180Mb/18Mb and to be able to only get around 1/4 to 1/3 of that on your laptop is very very annoying

at home i had 3 base stations, 2 of them 2.4Ghz only, and 1 was a 5Ghz only variant. if i connect on one of the 2 2.4ghz i only got 54Mb, at work the same thing if i connect to a 2.4Ghz there, only 54Mb. (completely different kind of access point)
But also my 5Ghz router had problems because i couldn't even see it at all. (all other 5ghz devices are fine, like smartphones and other laptops)

At work we also have a 5Ghz WiFi N and there i got very nice speeds, like transfer speeds of 120Mb/s. So what i did was throw away all the 3 routers i had in my house and replace them with 2 Asus AC66U routers now when connection to the AC network i get at my home max internet connection (so about 180Mb)
If i connect to those same routers but then on the 2.4Ghz N network i get around 50Mb, this is the latest firmwares in my routers and the latest intel drivers, there is just something very fishy in the 2.4Ghz

have to make sure WMM is enabled both in the adapter settings (under AdHoc QoS mode) but also in the settings for the router -- probably under the QoS setting -- on my Netgear it was
on wireless N unless WMM is enabled there is an upper limit of 54 Mbps as N is not being recognized

I keep back to wanting this PC over any of the other ones coming out simply because of the Super Raid 2. As well as the 870M. The only thing I really worry about is sound at my work. I want it to replace my work desktop (z800 with single SSD) because I use VMs and would love the performance gains. Also the 3 external monitors is going to be awesome. Has anyone had a macbook pro 2011 and compared the sound they make under load?

Has anyone tried to connect 3 monitors and try using their main monitor (3 + 1)???

Well i've had my stealth pro for just over a month now. Like others who have commented i have throttling issues. Gpu quickly heats up to 93 degrees threshhold and then throttles back. so far the only games that have done this to the detriment of playability is X rebirth and Watch dogs. I have tried all the various Vbios mods including sen7inels, and svets. sen7inels voltage mods increases the time to reach 93 degrees but still ends up there. Im going to attempt the repaste over the next week or so. having seen the Gs70 breakdown and the state of the pasting, i dont think any vbios mod will help me as it stands. i will keep you updated !

If you have Svets tool try an undervolt and a slight underclock. It may stop the throttling at the expense of a little performance which you gain back from not throttling. I've posted some modded ones and a guide in the gs60 thread.

i have thought about doing that, only problem i have is my version of svets bios tuner is from 2012 (last card i tuned was a GTX570m) and it requires an update as 800m series cards weren't around then.. When i click on the update link nothing happens though. Ive tried emailing svet on the original email he sent but had no response.

    Hi all.
I've had my GS70 Stealth Pro -024(model) for almost 4 weeks now and I've checked this forum frequently for some tips, or solutions for my modifications.
Thanks so much for all the info!

My system cam with a single 128GB Toshiba SSD and for now I added 2 additional mSATA 840Evo 500GB in emty mSATA slots.
I run Toshiba drive as boot and 2xEVOS in RAID 0 for a Media drive(Games/Photoshop/Lightroom/iTunes media).

Like for most my GPU temps peek at 93C when CPU climbs to 60C max. So far no throttling experienced in Borderlands2/Anno2070/Crysis3/BioShock. I also ran Valley benchmark for 1hr with no throttling signs at all. - I am concerned over the long haul though.

    I do have a few additional issues anyone might know a solution to;
Game Center GPU tems are not reading at all, although CPU reads fine.
Tried changing bios, vbios, ec firmware or the dragon game center software - no change.

What is the spec on the SATA port? is it SATA 3 or SATA2? I have a spare SATA Samsung 250GB 840 Pro drive I would use instead of HD for photo temp drive.
I can't find that info anywhere.

Will it be possible to upgrade the CPU to newest version?

So far all components seam to be working fine so no complains there, and I must say I am really enjoying my GS70 a lot! Thankfully I keep it on the desk so the scorching vent sides are no an issue, and I have an extra heater for the winter!

Biba, thanks I wasn't ignoring you it's just that it didn't work, I have tried oh so many times! However mostly I use a mouse anyway.

Interestingly the driver appears to install fine on my Win 8.1 (Update 1) 64bit system but seems not to detect the hardware.
Sometimes if you hibernate the laptop and wake it up the trackpad works, sometimes it works until you log in, mostly however it does nothing.

Also interestingly the Recovery Media with the machine shows ETD11.13.6.2_ps2drv_WHQL under the Clickpad folder and the MSI website has, 11.13.7.5, neither of which seem to work. Sigh!

On the subject of temperature and all that, yes it gets quite warm, whenever the NVIDIA card is in use whether it be gaming or CAD (which is my main use), gaming all sorts of stuff can happen BUT, as an easy tip, if you prop the nice flat AC adapter in the middle of the chassis at the back to angle it up, it works much better, its also plenty stable enough to game away. I mainly play Hawken right now on full settings, flat on the desk, crashes 10mins in, with the AC adapter propping it up, play for hours. - Not very technical or hardcore but it does work.

Windows 8.1, is IMHO waay better than 7, only they don't want you to notice because they put all that metro apps nonsense in the way. my advice, get update 1, boot straight to desktop and default all your apps to use desktop equivalents. No start menu, no need, pin useful tasks to the taskbar and Win+Q brings up a searchable list of apps, type the first few characters and away you go.

To help me out I also use an Autohotkey script to make some useful shortcuts use the left hand ALT-key instead of the WIN key which is in a funny place which speeds things up and I also use a little registry hack to provide a shutdown menu on the right click context menu a bit like the one in the link.

Power - Add Cascading Desktop Context Menu in Windows 8

I've had mine a 6 weeks now and worked it hard, I do love it but have not yet been brave enough to take off all of the protective stickers, maybe once I get the trackpad going...

I've reduce the GPU core clocks by 200mhz but the temps still hit 93 degrees c. its clearly a paste issue. I've ordered some noctua nt-h1 which gets some great reviews. You only need a pea size in the centre of the core. Looks like a weekend job.

Has anyone seen the new GS70 vs the GS60 beside eachother and care to comment on screen quality?

Is GS70 a TN panel still? Is it nowhere near the GS60 in quality? That's an IPS panel as I understand it.

    Thank you in advance.

I have my eye on the 212.I'm in Canada. None of the Canadian vendors show it other than newegg.ca, where it is listed as out of stock. The 210 also. When is inventory expected to be replenished?

Luckily my work is going to pay for mine. I'm excited to get the 3 msata! I'm excited for the disk performance for when I use VMs and 3 external display (without a buggy usb graphics). This is going to be a sweet setup! Just worried about the noise at work but we shall see just how bad it is. But my hardware refresh is in 1 month so I got a little bit to wait.

I ordered my GS70 (just the 036) from Canada Computers. It was also special order, not in stock, but was delivered to my local store within a week -- so wherever you order it, it may not be as long a delay as you might otherwise anticipate.

After seeing all the good reviews, I bought it, but i noticed I had a problem very early. Games like Bf3 would run okay, but low demanding games like Chivalry: Medieval Warfare will lag massively. It's impossible to play. I haven't had the time to play many games, so i didn't think about it at the start. Other games like Battlefield Hardline Beta is also lagging massively even on low settings when it's supposed to run on ultra smoothly. I have updated my graphics card and i don't know what the problem is. When i play games like Battlefield Hardline Beta and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, the fan doesn't run as fast as it is supposed to, which it does with every single game that doesn't lag. Anyone know how to fix this?

    I have the MSI GS70 StealthPro-212 GTX870M 6GB
Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Norway.

You can check in Nvidia Control panel under 3D settings to make sure those games are set to run under the Nvidia card. They may be using the Intel HD. Also check to make sure your power setting is set to High Performance.

What colour is the on button during these games. If it's blue your using the Intel graphics if it'd orange your using the nvidia.

I just got my laptop back this Saturday by DHL.

Ted at HIDevolution was very nice and helpful, he helped me go through my upgrades for the laptop and advised on what is right for me, excellent service and communication via chat and e-mail.

I need to test it now with some benchmarks, I run battlefield 4 Ultra @47~44fps, FF14ARR Ultra @60~47fps and Mass effect 3 runs on ultra without problems, I just need to test Crysis3 now and see how hot the GPU will get.

The laptop had a repaste with TIM IC Diamond from HIDevolution on both CPU & GPU, seems to be ok at around 91 Degrees max and averages at around 85/87 degrees.

The 16GB 1866MHz Kingstone HyperX DDR3 RAM is doing the job just fine as intended.

RAID-2 for the triple M.2 SSD with crystaldisk mark gives me reading speeds of 1525 mb/s.
1TB HDD with SSD Caching gives reading speeds of 120 mb/s.
I got killer wireless 1202 card in place of the standard intel unit.
Flash drive for OS restore and external Blu-rey reader.

This laptop is very light weight and yet packs one big powerful system.
    Intel Core i7 4710HQ 2.5GHz (3.5 GHz)

I asked them if it is possible to get both the CPU and GPU to have them overclocked, they told me it is not possible as they are locked out from the factory and they advise not to do so, the heat issue is already enough as is, but IMO I don't need to OC them now, they are already powerful and gets the games running in high settings without any problems.

I played Crysis 3 and optimized it with Geforce experience, ingame MSI burner reports 93tops on gpu and average 89celsus degrees, a bit hot but I can take it with a grain of salt.

Get Intel XTU you can undervolt the CPU and test for stability and then save the settings. You can also overclock the CPU as well. I run my 4710hq @ - 75mV 3.5ghz 4 cores 3.7ghz single Core. I think the 4700 is clocked just 100mhz less.

There is an undervolted vbios in this forum by Sen7inel which will produce less heat on the GPU. I've done a YouTube video on how to flash it.

If have the gs70 for about a week now. Everything go well. The max. temps are around 86C for the GPU and 76 for the CPU (after about an hour playing Wolfenstein New Order in video settings ULTRA) with ambient temp around 24C.
The fans are extremely loud in those temperatures. My previous laptop is an ASUS G73JH and, in full load, was significantly silenter. But of course it has double the weight and size...

I'm new to Windows 8.1 and I need to create some virtual machines. There is supposed to be a Hyper V setting in the features of the windows that I can turn on or off and via that I can create VM's. I cant' t find it there. Does anyone knows how to enable that and/or is there another way to create vm's (with windows 7) ?

    My GS70 Stealth Pro UPDATE

I've dug deeper on my strange 3DM 2011 scores and found out that GPU would start throttling down after only 2 minutes of gaming or benchmarking, even from cold!(GPU temps hit 93C).
I also found out that the CPU would hit up to 94C on 2 cores very quickly as well when playing Borderlands2 or Anno2070.
On top of that GS70 would shut off during boot and I needed sometimes 2-4 attempts to make it boot into Windows. - So something was going on that made me very worried.
Luckily I took it back to Microcenter and they simply exchanged it for a new one, even though the unit was 4 weeks old!!! Love that store!

I did also buy an extra 500GB Evo mSata, so now I do have 3 of them.
So this time around I did things a bit different. MSI posted Bios 107 and Firmware 1504 yesterday, so I updated both asap!
Then I did install all 3 mSATA Evos and did a fresh windows 8.1 install from USB.
For now I have them in RAID and benchmarks show 1500+GB/s. Might revert back to 1x500GB boot/Windows drive and 2x500GB RAID 0 for games/photoshop,lightroom with 1GB HD for just backup data.
So far when testing, 3DM 2011/Valley/Heaven do not show any throttling with GPU tems at 91C max. I left Heaven banchmark running on for an hour with not a single drop! So this new GS70 must have a much better paste job! CPU on the other side never hit above 89C - so much better there as well.
So far I am happy, but here is something strange - old GS even though it would throttle a bit towards the end would show in 3DM 2011 score of 6919(highest), this one in 5 tests did not go over 6870??? Confused! Any ideas?
Valley and Heaven on the other hand do show improvent! with scores of 1132 and 548 respectively.

A minuscule difference - you should compare the running tasks if there was some difference on the background.

    Hi,
i just got a big problem with my 2 month old GS70. This morning my notebook simply didnt turn on anymore. No LEDs, no fan noise, simply no reaction to the power button at all. I already tried disconnecting power+pressing the battery button than pressing the power button for 30 seconds. But still no reaction.
Do you know anything more i could do before i turn it in?
btw i installed win 8 on a extra SSD, flashed VBIOS and after that it worked for some weeks now. Now this.
    Please help.

Something went wrong possibly with the VBIOS mod, do you remember what was modified on it?
Best to contact MSI to proceed with service now.

Why would the vbios stop the laptop from booting? You can turn the nvidia gpu off from the bios and the computer still boots. If the GPU was broken it would still book with the Intel GPU would it not?
The only thing the GPU mod does is reduce the voltage. I've had it too low on mine during testing and the laptop still boots. It just crashes on games.

Most of the GPU crash the system can still power on and boot with IGD.
But this time it could be motherboard related, not sure if the GPU mod could have caused it or not.

Its a horrible feeling when you press the power button and then nothing happens. I had it the other week when I repasted my GS60 GPU, put it all back together perfectly, pressed the power button and nothing happened, opened it back up re-checked everything and tried again and still nothing. It was sweaty palms moment thats for sure. As it happens you have to plug the AC adapter in and it boots perfectly.

I hope you get it sorted. Before you send it back Needhelp01, before you send it back to MSI make sure you restore the stock VBIOS and EC fan profile if you changed it.

I didnt use a custom modified VBIOS, i just used the newest VBIOS update provided my MSI. This was necessary to fix a problem with my GPU. Also everything worked fine for several weeks with the new VBIOS. I dont know if it still can be the problem.
How can i set back the VBIOS when i cannot start the notebook? Or did you only recommend this for a custom modified VBIOS?

Only for the custom vbios. You've not done anything wrong.. Time to send it back in by the sounds of things. :-(

In order to let my laptop run cooler and without throttling, I decided to flash the vbios of the GTX870M in my GS70 pro. When I tried to do this using Sen7inel's ROM, the vflash utility warned my about a version mismatch, like others in this thread have mentioned. I decided to buy Svet's bios tuner.

User mardon posted a picture in the GS60 thread describing the adjustments that Sen7inel and he had made, attempting to reduce the throttling of their GPU's. The CoolMemOC adjustments seemed particularly interesting, so I created a custom vbios. The laptop runs at 85 degrees max during Battlefield 4, and my 3DMark scores have improved.

Attached you will find the VBios' I have created based on the N15E_GT_8004F7000C_100w vbios. I have not seen any stability issues due to the memory OC, so I created 3 versions with a +0 / +100 / +200 Mhz OC, respectively.

Glad you found my work of use! ;-)
It's a good tool isn't it! I can OC to around 6200mhz effective (1550mhz) which helps close the gap on the desk top cards.

Hi, I want to buy the laptop tomorrow. Except for the throttling, is there any other major issues?

Definitely, thanks for posting your findings mardon :)

It's a great tool indeed! The only thing is that don't know why, but the tuner won't let me change the P0 to the clock you defined, the lowest I can choose is 600+, instead of the ~83 you specified. Thanks for the number by the way, gonna try that!

I think the third option down on clock tweaking has 3 more others behind it which control the P states. Did you try that?

Hello all, I've been through all the posts and am wondering if a 200 dollar price difference is worth the upgrade from the 4700HQ to the 4710HQ?

    3 - 4 % max performance increase - worth it?

You would probably see very little if any difference in most your use.
