I've seen talk of how the trackpad becomes pretty useable after some tweaks but after searching I couldn't find them anywhere in this thread or the GS60 one.
Can anyone enlighten us?
-
But indeed, now that I have the GS70, I'm certainly finding that control with the trackpad is very shaky and inaccurate, so if anyone could share a fix/tweak (if it exists), I'll bake muffins. -
Hey Guys, my screen is always turning off after 1 min whatever time i choose in the power options. how can i fix that?
Thanks! -
I did post a few tweaks somewhere in this thread. I don't understand how people dislike the trackpad so much, as there are options to level just about anything about it. The only thing is that you have to configure a couple of things through Windows Mouse Options, and then customize the rest though Elan software. It's certainly not best in class, but certainly not subpar neither. I resent that it's a clickpad, I'd like it better with separated clickers, but anyway I customized a two fingers tap for right click and just don't use the actual click zone anymore.
-
The rest of the laptop is brilliant though, a couple of software tweaks would be greatly appreciated but if MSI were to use better touchpads in future I'd certainly have no problems buying another MSI laptop in the future.
Edit: Actually the Touchpad on the cheapo £250-300 HP Laptops from 2010 were probably worse, separate click buttons but you need to hit them with a hammer to make em register. -
So I am making the jump into a MSI GS70 StealthPro-212. I'm excited for the Triple mSata drives. I hope they perform how I expect them to. I am also getting two ASUS PB278Q for monitor (2560 x 1440). I will hopefully be using displayport to HDMI adapters to get the full resolution I need. Then I need to order an extra AC Adapter (Any suggestions?) I'm so excited for this setup. I was going to get a GS60 but I was going to have to install my own mSata and didn't have the luxury of knowing what ssd to get because it had to be all in one order. So yeah I will be scanning this forum for info on how to fix my machine. I did purchase Artic 5 (I was going to go with cool lab but for fear of melting my cpu to the cooler I held off) to help cool the laptop as well (my macbook could sure use it too!). Not as excited about the TN display cause I'm coming from a Macbook Pro 2011 but I figure i will be connecting to a monitor 90% of the time.
[EDIT ACTUALLY I'M GOING WITH THE GS60 3k-097 I COULDN"T LET MYSELF GET ANOTHER TN DISPLAY YOU CAN BLAME MSI FOR MY SWITCH]

Please help. Is it normal to get average of 70 celsius for around 25+% cpu usage? Avira takes more than half, and I'm just doing web simple browsing with these temps. The very noticeable and constant noise of the fan is worrying me. Thanks.

Since the monitor can already handle displayport, therefore don't convert it if you don't have to.
But if you really need to, then be sure to purchase active DP adapter with dual-link support for best result.
You can use Furmark to verify max temp for the GPU, and Prime95 for the CPU. -
Thanks. However, are those temps normal even without AV scanning and just light browsing? Ambient temps are at 25c. -

Only getting the following benchmark results for 3DMark, is that normal?

also, it seems like the right front side of the laptop is floating in the air about 2 mm or so. Anyone else have that?
My GPU reaches 92 degrees pretty quickly and I have a feeling that it starts to throttle from there on. I do have the 870M version with 3GB by the way. No modifications done, freshly installed it a few days ago. -
Thanks. -
Recieved my GS70 2PE yesterday, but I'm pretty annoyed by the fact the num-lock is always turned off after boot.
Now I know this is a setting in the BIOS, but it's already switched to Boot numlock state: "on". Yet it's off when I boot.
If I set it to "off" it's also off, of course.
Anyone else has this problem, or knows how to fix it? -

Any way to get the system to run more silent at idle? I have no problem with it running pretty loud during gaming since that is to be expected. But when I need to concentrate I really like my fans to be silent. I used GT70 Fan speed control and set it to 10% then made a new energy profile and put that to 50% of total performance for office work. Now it is pretty silent but I hear the fan going on and off on the right about once every 5 seconds. The fan on the left is still even when I am not using the 870M actively right now. Does anyone know of a program to actually change both fans to 0% in idle?
With the CPU underclock profile it nows runs at 50 degrees celsius and the 870M runs at 40 degrees on unused so I really do not need any fans to be spinning in this state.

However, the temperature readout indicated that your system is running hot, therefore you don't want to risk overheating your PC with 0% at all which may cause the system to become unrecoverable during use, or flashing back. -

Someone please help...
I purchased The MSI GS70 Stealth Pro-210 from Newegg in May. I am overseas currently so I didn't receive it until the middle of May, After receiving it I installed my OCZ Vertex 4 from my old laptop and a new Evo 840 mSATA, so my warranty is void.
I noticed after installing a few games that I was not getting nearly the performance I was expecting. I have been playing with Nvidia settings and my drivers are all up to date, but I seem to only be getting half the performance I should be in games when it comes to FPS numbers.
Today I found in another forum where someone had posted this notebooks 3Dmark scores, so I ran 3Dmark for comparison and sure enough, I am getting almost half the performance I should be.
This is the thread from the other forum I was reffering to.... http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/msi/...ml#post9629384 ...without overclocking he is showing scores of:
Fire Strike : 4326
Cloud Gate : 17146
Ice Storm : 93400
my scores are:
Fire Strike : 2451
Cloud Gate : 9010
Ice Storm : 51756
(Sky Diver : 7430) (it is showing the correct numbers for my clocks etc. also verified through CPU-Z and GPU-Z, I ran the 3Dmark while the notebook was on a cooler with a fan blowing at it and don'ggt believe it got close to 90 C. )
The only comparing issue I have found was from someone who seemed to have similar numbers as me, they sent their notebook in for warranty work and recieved it back getting the performance he should be getting, I unfortunately can't do that. So I'm hoping someone here has an idea. I have not tried Firmware updates just drivers (i'm scared of BIOS updating) I have played with all the windows and Nvidia setting i can, tried the MSI Afterburner and EVGA PrecisionX to force GPU utilization. but after the 3Dmark test I don't think it's a throttling issue, I have not seen the temps get excessively hot either (atleast not for this)
UPDATE:
I used Riva tuner and HWiNFO to minitor what was going on while the 3DMark tests were running.
During all tests temps never went above 69 degrees C for the GPU or CPU, Ram and VRAM never went above 20% Load (that I noticed)
GPU core clock speeds seemed to stay around 400-450Mhz through all tests except physics, GPU Memory Clock speed stayed around 1000Mhz. Utilization stayed between 94% and 99%
CPU Utilization was minimal throughout all tests except physics and stayed around the stock 2.4Ghz.
During the physics tests the CPU seemed to take over, maxing out at 3.4Ghz and utilizing all 4 cores, The GPU utilization was 1%-10% during physics tests yet GPU core clock and GPU memory clock speeds maxed at 940Mhz and 1200Mhz (12something, I don't remember the number) CPU Clock, GPU Core clock and GPU Memory clock also maxed out during all the loading screens.
FPS during Fire Strike were horrid, staying around 3-5FPS in the action scenes, but at one point it seemed to Hickup, GPU clock maxed for a second and FPS went above 20 for that second. -
Sorry for linking to this thread lol I also put this on MSI's Forum
-
@ fdapp
Did you ever figure this out I am having the same issue and I Voided my warranty the first day I got the computer :confused2: -
-
-
@RobbyQ1987 - I have had similar issue when I used this laptop for approx. 2 weeks. I did return it back to MSI and they repaired the fan unit for me. It seems to be ok now. So I'd encourage you to check with MSI support team first regarding to this matter.
Also, I don't think the warranty is void in your case, please see below the email I have received from MSI support team:
Dear Customer,
MSI users are allowed to void the warranty sticker to upgrade RAM, HDD and also for cleaning purposes. However, please note that any mechanical damages which may occur during mentioned actions will not be covered under manufacturer's warranty.

MSI Notebook&AIO Team -

Has anyone gotten super charger to work yet? Trying to charge my Nexus 4 with it but it does not seem to be working. On top of that it seems to always disconnect the device over and pover again. It says MSI supercharger is already running when I try to start the program, but it seems like it does not do anything. I can not find the software running either like demonstrated in the supercharger video. I am using thetop left USB-Port like instructed in the product page.

Also, have you tried a different USB ports on the left side? -
So... I ended up flashing BIOS and VBIOS with the ones from MSI's website... Version numbers were the same as what I had but decided to do it anyway, I also reinstalled windows 8.1 and got scores of:
Fire Strike : 4364
Cloud Gate : 17262
Ice Storm : 114174
Sky Diver : 14211
I dont think there was anything on my computer causing the low scores I was getting as it seemed to act like this from the day I got it, I honestly think MSI had put some bad VBIOS on this machine. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
The VBIOS update contains fixes for benchmark software therefore it's resolved after the VBIOS update.
BIOS and EC helps with other issues that we usually don't see nor feel. -

is it normal that this laptop makes an annoying noise from the right fan? even when u r doing nothing?

Can you record it and post it on youtube? -
Hi,
I wanted to suggest the following:
Could we post on a new GS70 Stealth Pro thread expected temps from repasting the CPU and GPU?
Question for those that have repasted did you replace the other thermal pads other than CPU and GPU? I only repasted the CPU and GPU with IC Diamond.
It would be nice to have one location for the GS70 Stealth Pro - latest bios link and drivers, best NVidia drivers used for GPU and bios, best Wireless Lan driver, Tips and Tricks for better cooling, and any other information users could share in one thread, instead of this GS70 Stealth Pro with over 60 pages. -
To all gs70 owners, would you recommend this as a main gaming laptop? Im looking at buying the one with the gtx 870m 6gb gddr5. Based on my research this is the most portable gaming laptop i found.
Reading through previous pages i can see that some are having high temps/ throttling issues? Will this be good for long hours of gaming?
Also what is the difference between the one with 3gb gddr5 and 6gb gddr5?
Sorry for the noob questions. I already did my research but still I want to make sure of what i am buying.

Would the 15" GS60 not be more portable? -
So far Baka did not have any throttling issues and this is with the GTX870M ._. The fan noise is so loud though so Baka really has to use headphones or just increase the volume just to drown it out a bit :x
So far Baka is liking the laptop though :3 No issues so far. -
Hi everybody.
Just wanted to share some findings with you. I did experiment with some costumized vBioses and what i do consider interesting is, that the only "stage" the graphic card does behave according to the settings i made, is when playing games. If i´m testing with the MSI kombuster, its still throttling right from the start, using higher Voltage then set in the vBios. So far tested Crysis 3 and WoT.
I did the altering with the Kepler Bios Tweaker following ModRQC´s guide and also tried the vBios made by Sen7inel for the GS70. Always the same behaviour.
My Specs: GS70 Stealth Pro with the GTX870m, temps: GPU max 91C playing Crysis with 893mV and 901,5MHz, RAM untouched
Do you have the same experience?! -

How can I access this information about my panel? I have no clue what panel is in my laptop. -
Guys you have any idea how the GS70 is?
I mean from personal or close experience. In the forums people whine about the high temps; which is a given in such low form factor laptops but still, any idea how long such laptops could last? actually I'm not that intense gamer and would just enjoy playing new games even if it means compromising a little on the settings, doesn't have to be ultra all the time (but mostly).
I really would love to have an ultra portable gaming laptop which could also be used as my work/entertainment center.
Would love to know from Xotic or Gentech guys the max temps with IC Diamond repaste they achieved.
EDIT: I'm talking about the GS70 Pro with the 870m card.
Kindly confirm the following issues:
1. Heat taking temps close to 90C.
2. Poor Track pad.
3. Poor build quality.
4. Loud fan (like uncomfortably/hair dryer loud)
5. Are you happy with it? -
I have this laptop with 860M ..
the GPU Temp is 93C .. it is throttling ..
anyone have Solution for this problem ? -
I have a MSi GS70 Stealth with 870 kepler for 3 months now an it is a pleasure.
So the Temperature is high enough in games, yes. And the fans noise too. But no lag or throttle at all. I tried TESO, SKYRIM and Wathdogs with all the parameters at their maximum. And there is only a very little noise in idle ... some wisdom times
I didn't change anything : OS = Wondows 8.1, BIOS and GPU driver is the release from april 2014
I think there is several solutions you can try to fix your problem lionheart :
1 - update the bios : the last bios release may embbed the solution developped for the GS60 ghost pro : the frequency of the CPU is limited at 98% in order to avoid throtteling problems
2 - update your GPU driver with the last release
3 - try differents sets of parameter to optimize regarding the game you wanna play (or use such an application like "GForce experience" to do it automatically)
4 - if it doesn't work, use your warranty to get a new one !!!!
good luck young padawan ! -
hello baka u so cute on the pic // wink fo u
-
it needs bigger heatsink .. for proper cooling .. this is on very edge .. I wud only use gpu up to 750 or 850 -

Does anyone else has the problem where the touchpad goes total ape when you close the lid?
I often listen to music with an external soundcard and close the lit of my GS70. But I noticed that sometimes the music stops or it goes to next track. When I open the lit, I opened some programs, sometimes moved some pictograms. It doesn't happen when I disable the touchpad before I close it. -
